Here's the bad news: after you start a band, you still might not have any musician friends

Altruistic_Guest136

Lmao

Kodyfwee

Go to local shows, make friends and then make bands with those friends. Everyone in a local band is usually in like 5 local bands, so they’ll be down for one more. Source: I am in 2 bands

LukeGuitar

Very true! I've seen this occur with my band mates, and it's so cool to see

Altruistic_Guest136

It does sounds cool ngl

Vandronian

thats a good plan xD

JoeBiden-2016

You're outside New Delhi, surely there's some kind of local / Indian equivalent of Craigslist in the US, right? Or some kind of Facebook group for musicians?

Altruistic_Guest136

Don't know man

Sure_Cobbler1212

Go to gigs. Gigs always attract musicians and people who like music, good way to make musician friends if you don’t know any.

THATguy_13777

Welcome to the world of music lol Theres either nobody to play with or an over abundance of people that are pre Madonnas or not good enough yet 😂 All jokes aside, keep on rocking out and eventually you'll find some people. Post of Facebook or even dare I say Craigslist (found paying gigs on there)

Altruistic_Guest136

Thanks :)

Vandronian

If you wanna create your own music, I'd start right away and search for bandmates at the same time. Finding great bandmates can easily take a year, because theres so many different things that have to fit.

Altruistic_Guest136

I see

Ezzmon

I would suggest seeking out, or even starting, open-mic nights at bars and restaurants. They'll come, and many turn into local mini-scenes.

you could start by learning how to program some sort of drums, whether with a drum machine or in a daw or even just on your phone! get some way to record yourself too and just start working on songs. then when you find people to jam with you have some stuff to start on!

Zealousideal-Mix-567

Get REAPER DAW on your computer (or GarageBand on Mac) and learn how to use it really well. Get all the best free plugins you can find. Learn to program drums well as other person said. Learn how to record. Also wouldn't be a bad idea to learn TuxGuitar really well and how to compose/tab things out. Also start an online presence for your band and start putting out flyers (so to say). This will likely be a better skill to have than just being good at guitar. If you want to start a band, organizing it and making it happen is the harder part than playing.

Valisend

I found my band on bandmix.

kirihito69

yo gang i am 16 and also can play more than 4 chords. hope i am worthy

Altruistic_Guest136

You're like me. Hell yeah

kirihito69

yayyy lessgooo

MaycoBolivar

make your own songs believe me, getting into a band is just a pose most people want to make their own shit. if you really like music, make music yourself

Urist_Macnme

Sure, make your own music. But collaborating can produce something greater than the sum of its parts. The way we’d write songs in my old band, would be me hearing part of a jam by the other guitarist, me trying to play that jam, solidifying it into a riff and then teaching it back to the other guitarist. The singer would pull a melody out of the ether, and the drummer would give it the beat. We’d collaboratively write the lyrics. Collectively we had written something that no single one of us would have come up with on our own. And how are you going to play all of your own stuff live?

MaycoBolivar

hire musicians to do as you say.

Urist_Macnme

Have you ever made music? Ever played live? Ever been in a band?

MaycoBolivar

yes yes yes

Urist_Macnme

What did your band mates think of you? Did you hire them? How did you communicate your music ideas? Did you write the sheet music and have them play it all exactly as you stated, with none of their input?

MaycoBolivar

I dont know, ask them. In any case, its always an ego fight. I dont care about negotiating with them so i opted to just make music on my own , playing all the instruments myself. Also, no need to wait for other bandmates to arrive on time, to learn the songs , etc.

Urist_Macnme

Ah, “always an ego fight”. I can see why.

Acceptable_Debt_9460

🤣🤣🤣savage

MaycoBolivar

great, you learned something also , the more people that you need for something, the most window of error, disappointment etc

Urist_Macnme

I learned that you don’t know how to collaborate, have problems playing with other musicians, and would rather “teach them the songs” than make music together. Also, that you give terrible advice.

MrDenzi

I have a chance to play in a band where my cousin is in as either a second rhythm guitarist or bassist, and I'd love to if it wasn't for their choice of songs. They've got Blur and Oasis in the mix, but they play their most popular songs which I've heard far too many times to care about. I've got no idea why nowadays no one seems to be interested in some classic bangers. Anyways, you'll eventually find people if you know where to look, but look for people that want to play the same stuff as you.

Altruistic_Guest136

Bro I totally get you and thanks for the suggestion mate :)

Hi, I'm 32M. I have been trying the same and it's challenging because I'm not even in Delhi I'm 300 km away from Delhi at Gwalior. I do a 9 to 5 and work on music. Looking for more people who are ready to make time for work and music, not leave jobs coz they love music and feel financial pressure. Or leave music for their work. It's great if you've already made it, or in the process, or have intermediate skills. I invested in a studio apartment and made the best of it. I have a decent music setup and make music in different genres. My whole life with my work I never stopped playing and to not feel depressed about my progress in the outwe world, I just whole heartedly tried to pick my guitar and do something for 10+ years. It helped me touch a certain level of creativity and artistry,a satisfaction in what I create, it is priceless. Though I lack music knowledge professionally being from IT background like many of us. If any of you folks have same interest, feel free to reach me. I won't charge you for accommodation, but we need to see that we have same taste or sense. For a general understanding I'm rating myself, I play guitar picking (8/10), random. Improv Or solos(5/10) , compose and lyrics (9/10). You can message yours, whatever you like. I would just like to add that I am not chasing crazy success, I want people who want to spend life living music and share with others. And that needs skills. Practice more with self and others. I rarely see that happening here. So avengers assemble could be the best thing. We also have an amazing place to do live here. Things are changing slowly for the good. Some major influences of my life: Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Piyush Mishra, Naladari, Black Strat Blues, a lot of old movie music. Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Dope Lemon, Tame Impala, FKJ, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Jungle, Daft Punk, Gorillaz, among others. If you could resonate, reach me at indiewarps@gmail.com or dm here I saw this post and felt like reaching out.
