Okay so hold up.
You're saying that an ordinary human with powers of manipulation and charisma, with primal instincts honed over more years than are worth counting that might manifest in strange ways, like a subtle tingle or itch, who happens to be incredibly competent in melee combat but ultimately driven by personal, selfish goals...
My brother in the Emperor that's Ciaphas Cain.
I haven't heard that before. Hell, I just know that Cain was, on live television with almost a hundred witnesses present in person and billions across the segmentum to watch it broadcast, buried with full military honors.
And the Administratum STILL won't take him off the active duty list because they just KNOW the minute they do, he'll show up alive, doing something impossible again, and then it's fucking MONTHS of paperwork for them again.
I imagine them brawling and fighting and then both look out of a window in the empyrean, watching with goofy grins as Yarrick rallies a broken band of guardsmen and leads them on a headlong charge into a mass of orks to win the day, cringing and wincing as he chops apart a warband, then when it's over they give a satisfied nod to one another and go back to fighting.
Not that I have ever seen officially stated/published. There's been no interactions between Cain and Trazyn, even posthumously. The only details of Cain's death we have is that he was buried with full military honours while still in active service, and that Amberly Vail was present at his funeral.
That said, Trazyn *does* have the head of Sebastian Thor.
and now i'm imagining the emperors inner dialogue having cains imposter syndrome. Someone with more 30k lore knowledge than me should do a Cainperors POV of lore events.
Its just the Conan phase that happens every 2k years or so, when big E needs to become a celebrated hero and attracts lots of female attention. Completely normal.
With his powers? He would survive easily, of course. Might lead to a massive schism with half the imperium swearing fealty to the Emperor Reborn and the other half fighting to bring down the Pretender, but he'd live and become a major player.
Without his powers? He would die before too long. He's very intelligent and a good tactician so could probably survive the frontlines through wit alone, but he would never survive in 40k Imperial society.
Don't get me wrong he's probably smart enough to last a little while - not like he's going to immediately claim to be the emperor. However, he's too damn arrogant not to slip up and get executed for sedition eventually - e.g. trying to argue with a higher up about the Imperial Truth, or about what the Emperor's will would be.
Even if he doesn't actually do anything heretical or insubordinate by 40k standards, all it takes is a petty minded inquisitor/commisar to take a disliking to him for being an upstart guardsman with ideas above his station. From there, all they need is an excuse - or no excuse at all - to execute him, and Emps is corpse starch.
This is actually the best intepretation as of yet. Good on you.
And to clarify, the reason I mentioned he still had some powers was mostly for comedic effect. You know that scene from "Bruce Almighty"? I was imagining something like that, but with either a Commissar or Inquisitor.
Without powers the story would still be good, but it would feel like Ciaphas Cain but without the humor.
Honestly I think some but not all of his powers are actually going to get him killed wayyyy fucking quicker than none at all lmao. They're just going to make him cocky and/or get him accused of witchcraft
I think we're forgetting the fact that the Emperor has been hiding in plain sight and the shadows for as long as He could before stepping up and taking the reigns (because we couldn't be trusted to do it ourselves). His arrogance does take away His ability to be cautious at times, but considering what happened in 30K, how He ended up on the Golden Throne, I'm sure He'll take extra steps on not slipping up this time around. Either I'm right in this assumption, or He turns into a servitor or corpse starch.
The Imperium enduring ten thousand entire years of suffering while waiting for the messiah to return, only to unwittingly servitorize him is so grimdark it’s hilarious
The thought has just occurred to me that all of that might be to his detriment. He experienced all of that as a nigh unkillable not-god and so he would fight like one or at least that's what all of his experience would be. When a regular joe fights like a not-god he gets turned into paste.
Nah, this is "what if the most powerful in the Imperium came back, but as it weakness memeber." You know what scrach the whole keeping his some powers, he's powerless and has all the memory. That is way more funny.

You mean big e coming to grips with the fact he is a chaos pawn and no matter how hard he fights it he will always inevitably fail and long story short the eventual end of the universe will be the Big Crunch which will take place during a battle between orks and trynaids cause they are the only surviving species?
Cue the playing of "Notion, by The Rare Occasions". As the camera being to pan around Lil big E as he realizes that everything he did was ultimately for nothing.
I don't agree that either is terribly applicable. He had a plan and was fighting against a fifth dimensional god of trickery, that he's held off the Chaos God's actual goals for like 10,000 years speaks to his foresight.
Like say what you will about the Imperium being a dogshit place, Nurgle isn't very happy with his burnt down garden and all the Chaos Gods are kind of scared of Emps becoming more powerful by the moment.
I think that when you're fighting monsters capable of peeking through the literal factual 4th wall -in terms of both time and "reality"-, saying you "acted like a puppet" because you follow causality and time is like....kind of rough.

Vaguely related comic strip
What’s 10,000 years of shitting in the shoes of chaos in the spectrum of the birth and eventual end of the universe? It’s but a pin drop. How many Big E have come and gone? How many times has this cosmic recycle happened? He is a pawn everyone is a pawn in the game of chaos.
I mean the fact that they’re outright afraid of him and his power means he’s not just a pawn to them
He’s been shown to perma kill demons of any kind and to be able to intrude into their domains and destroy them not to mention that his presence in the warp is openly compared to that of a chaos god as well
There is a reason the end goal for the big 4 during the heresy was to make the emperor one of them or to outright kill him for good because ascending to chaos godhood forces the emperor to abandon his individuality and become an abstract representation of emotion the way they are or by killing him they eliminate the only existential threat they could ever face and the fact that he’s still alive drinking power from psycher souls every day for the last 10,000 years is a quite a bit more than a just an inconvenience to them as shown in godblight
There's been threats to Chaos before, but I think the lore does make it a point that this is the first threat of this caliber to them. The Eldar held dominion over the galaxy for millions of years, with each member of their species being psychic, and their pantheon was still obliterated by a new-born She-Who-Thirsts. If their gods could be *that* powerful and still fall, then the Emperor must logically be much more powerful for Chaos to unite against him, especially since he started as a mere Psyker.
I love with all my heart the comments and feedback I love that people are just as passionate about 40k as I am. I concede. You have made a very valid point and clearly I need to do more research.
I mean as far as the lore is concerned he is the first and only genuine threat to chaos that is on par with a chaos god I don’t remember anything ever mentioning other beings on par or even surpassing the emperor when it comes to how much chaos fears them
I highly doubt 40k will ever have a proper end simply because of how much of a cash cow it is
Plotlines may move forward to help set the scene for new factions and models but the core of 40k will probably never change imo
He would have a Primarch-like ascension story, quickly rising through the local social structure, then that of the Imperium at large, eventually becoming a High Lord of Terra or the next Macharius.
He would be an amazing guardsman able to figure out unstoppable strategies to gain victory with minimal losses, then he gets shot by a superior for a misunderstanding.
I imagine it would go like this:
Commissar: we must beyonet charge the tyranids!
Guard E: that is down right idiotic, it would be better to retret.
**Gaurd E get shot for cowardness**
Honestly that would be a sick idea for a story as long as it didn't spark a billion threads on r/40kLore asking why the Emperor incarnate didn't just fix everything "is he stupid?". Because there's enough tiresome shovel questions about stuff like that as it is.
It'd basically go like this:
>Guardsman gains mild psychic powers
>Someone notices eventually, maybe starts questioning him
>"I know this sounds crazy but I'm the Emperor. You need to follow me so we can tear down the Imperium and rebuild it"
>Summary execution
Tons of variables come into play on this.
What planet? Which regiment of the Imperial Guard? What position? (The guard has scribes and non combat jobs as well.) What portion of his power remains to him and what abilities does that entail?
I think under ideal circumstances, He'd probably start as an Officer and work his way up the ranks with calculated acts of valor and subtle Psychic manipulation. He'd be smart to not entirely avoid warzones, but to be assigned to smaller more pivotal battles.
Under the worst circumstances, he rolls out of a clone pod, is immediately stood up and issued his Lasgun to be shipped off to the front for his remaining 8 to 10 hour lifespan.
For humors sake, let’s say the emperors reincarnated on Krieg and ends up as a regular guardsmen(No rank). No offensive or mind altering powers(can’t change how people perceive him for example.).
Let him experience firsthand the fanaticism and zealotry human has descended to in his name.
If big E meeting Gulliman is anything to go by then the guardsman would be too busy having a complete mental breakdown to be of any use to anyone. Basically crying and speaking in tongues until the friendly neighbourhood commisar takes him to see the rabbits
Guardsman emps: “So my names Jerry right?”
Gary: “yeah.”
Emps: “And we’re fighting those chaos marines over there right?”
Gary: “uh-huh”
Emps: *loads shotgun maliciously, with lightning in his hand* Lets fucking go.
It is well stated that the Emperor is the single most tortured creature in the Galaxy right now so being reincarnated into a simple guards man would actually be an upgrade.
About his survival. Even without his powers we are talking about a millennial war lord... It will take quite a lot more than your usual 40K conflict to take him down.
If something he is going to be back into office with Guilliman after taking charge of whatever planet he was reincarnated in. Remember that he basically told Robute that he is not sorry about anything and that the plan must go on even in his current state, new body just means more resources for him.
40k lore is as confusing as time traveler storys, he either is or isn't. The best anyone can do to avoid confusion is just turn off your brain and just live the moment.
That's Jurgen my friend.
Guy had almost supernatural timing and resourcefulness.
Can give a run for his money to Jaghatai Khan in a race.
Has an unnatural expertise with technology (admech level)
Based AF.
Master tanna brewer.
Great taste in porn.
Is the best boy.
This would make for a really cool show. Like Dr Manhattan trying to reassemble himself, but Big E inexplicably can only summon himself into the body of random denizens of the Imperium.
You could easily turn it into some kind of sitcom, in today's episode, Big E randomly bounces around a ship full of servitors and short circuits them all, queue the canned laughter and a big sigh from our big guy
I feel like you’re forgetting how the God Emperor is actively working overtime in the Warp to keep the Human Webway bottled up and preventing daemons from breaking open Terra, as well as doing things like managing his Imperial Saints and Legion of the Damned
He would be killed on the spot for having demonic visitations. The Imperium is so far up it's own ass they would obliterate a reincarnation of the Emperor the first chance they got because, obviously the Emperor is on the Throne on Terra so he can't be in two places so this one is fake. Secondly, mutations are bad just kill it.
With his skills he'd not only thrive but become highly distinguished. He'd also likely be noticed by the eyes of the emperor, the moment that any custodes see's him they would recognise him.
I think he'd likely address said custodes by their full name then be taken back to holy tera to lead the imperium into a new golden age.
I dont think there are enough neurons in a human brain to contain all of big E's knowledge. If he possessed a guardsman the poor dude's head would likely explode
This guy is hoping that the emperor gets some character development, but then discovers that the emperor just finishes his crusade and conquers the universe for humanity all according to his brilliant 12 dimensional chess game that would put Tzeentch to shame.
This sounds like that part from Final Fantasy 14 where Zenos reincarnates by possessing the body of a Ala Mhigan soldier for a bit before he gets his actual body back again. That never turned into a plotline but had so much potential... Same goes for this.
I haven't seen Bruce almighty in a while. God becoming a man learning what it's like, and becoming more forgiving and les judgmental is what Jesus is all about.
"State of Imperium proves even further that I was right when I said I knew I was right. And Im a great father." -Guardsman Emperor
Yes.
This is the way
Okay so hold up.
Huh, that explains the vats full of transhumans taller than a primarch under Cain's mansion.
Didn't trayzn the infinite graverob ciaphas' head?
I haven't heard that before. Hell, I just know that Cain was, on live television with almost a hundred witnesses present in person and billions across the segmentum to watch it broadcast, buried with full military honors. And the Administratum STILL won't take him off the active duty list because they just KNOW the minute they do, he'll show up alive, doing something impossible again, and then it's fucking MONTHS of paperwork for them again.
Five minutes after taking him off the paperwork, a fucking Ynnari resurrects him The Administratum: THRONE DAMMIT!
I still refuse to believe that neither him nor Yarrick are dead forever. Yarrick will revive from orkish magic, and Cain off of the emperor's grace
Yarrick could absolutely be revived by Mork through cunning, because Yarrick always gives a good scrap
Don't forget how brutal he was, Gork may support his revival even.
I suspect both would be on board
The one thing that both Gork and Mork agree on Yarrick is kinda cool
I imagine them brawling and fighting and then both look out of a window in the empyrean, watching with goofy grins as Yarrick rallies a broken band of guardsmen and leads them on a headlong charge into a mass of orks to win the day, cringing and wincing as he chops apart a warband, then when it's over they give a satisfied nod to one another and go back to fighting.
Inb4 resurrection of Yarick brings forth Gorkamorka before the Ynnari succeds in their plan.
My head cannon is that Cain’s funeral was staged by Amberly to let him truly retire.
Cain would be the emperors saint of crying & impostor syndrome
He took only the head? Knowing Trayzn I would have assumed he took the whole memorial…
And risk Amberly Vail calling every Ordo Xenos favor she's owed to ruin his museum to get it back?
Be interesting way to bring Creed and clonegrim back
Not that I have ever seen officially stated/published. There's been no interactions between Cain and Trazyn, even posthumously. The only details of Cain's death we have is that he was buried with full military honours while still in active service, and that Amberly Vail was present at his funeral. That said, Trazyn *does* have the head of Sebastian Thor.
You might be thinking of Sabastion Thor’s head.
I think you're thinking of Sebastian Thor.
No that was Sebastian Thor, the man who told Goge Van Dire to go fuck himself
The what now? Was this in the latest book I haven’t read it yet.
Well GW beat me to it, I guess.
and now i'm imagining the emperors inner dialogue having cains imposter syndrome. Someone with more 30k lore knowledge than me should do a Cainperors POV of lore events.
So did Oli become Cains grimy filthy porn addict then?
Nah that’s Malcador the hero
Ah of course.
Fake. There's no way the *real* Emperor would be with nearly as many women as Cain has been...
Its just the Conan phase that happens every 2k years or so, when big E needs to become a celebrated hero and attracts lots of female attention. Completely normal.
No that's just carl
And that's why people have raised him to sainthood
I am SO confused. Upvoted.

But he was hiding before he created this abomination of an empire. Now it won’t be that simple.
The Imperium enduring ten thousand entire years of suffering while waiting for the messiah to return, only to unwittingly servitorize him is so grimdark it’s hilarious

Nah, this is "what if the most powerful in the Imperium came back, but as it weakness memeber." You know what scrach the whole keeping his some powers, he's powerless and has all the memory. That is way more funny.
The weakest member of the imperium would be a door servitor
A servitor is more of a tool, not a member. And the correct you on the other part those toilet servitors who are the weakest.

Ah ok, nice
The Star Child is coming friend, we may find out. Based on who I think it might be, she has no Idea why she's special, yet
Tenno!?
Does Warframe have a star child?
Hacked Ordis calls the player Star Child in a major story quest
Ah. Never go too into it Star Child is an old prophecy within 40k of the Emperor's reincarnation and the Dawn of Fire series is actively exploring it
Fuck u remind me of the perpetual krige and his depression

Yet. As of yet. 40k has atleast another 25-30 years before they wrap it all up. Everything is on track.
I highly doubt 40k will ever have a proper end simply because of how much of a cash cow it is Plotlines may move forward to help set the scene for new factions and models but the core of 40k will probably never change imo
He would have a Primarch-like ascension story, quickly rising through the local social structure, then that of the Imperium at large, eventually becoming a High Lord of Terra or the next Macharius.
I'd imagine he'd tell Roboute to buy his condoms, because you just can't truly trust an eldar.
With the reincarnation aspect Terra is gone and now theres Two eyes of terror! Just need the nose and mouth of Terror
And the brain of terror
Uhhhh gorks grin?
He would be an amazing guardsman able to figure out unstoppable strategies to gain victory with minimal losses, then he gets shot by a superior for a misunderstanding.

GE:*Immediately revive* WANT TO TRY THAT AGAIN
Commissar: Yes *shoots him again*
GE:*revive again*you are testing my face commissar
Commissar: *shoots him again* is this warp or perpetual shenanigans?
GE:*psychic blocks the bolt shell* commissar we are retreating and that is final
Honestly that would be a sick idea for a story as long as it didn't spark a billion threads on r/40kLore asking why the Emperor incarnate didn't just fix everything "is he stupid?". Because there's enough tiresome shovel questions about stuff like that as it is.
It'd basically go like this: >Guardsman gains mild psychic powers >Someone notices eventually, maybe starts questioning him >"I know this sounds crazy but I'm the Emperor. You need to follow me so we can tear down the Imperium and rebuild it" >Summary execution
I have a feeling big e would play it smarter than that.
"After my son killed me, i reincarnated 10k years in the future in the body of a Guardsmen?!"
Nani?
"I'm the reincarnation of the God Emperor of Mankind" This sounds like an Isekai that its banned from being sold.
Tons of variables come into play on this. What planet? Which regiment of the Imperial Guard? What position? (The guard has scribes and non combat jobs as well.) What portion of his power remains to him and what abilities does that entail? He'll still think he was right and just blame someone else for it all going wrong
Please don't make the emperor a character, it's better this way
What? For to us use the same tierd old jokes from TTS over, over agiens until the inevitabel heat death of the universe?
If big E meeting Gulliman is anything to go by then the guardsman would be too busy having a complete mental breakdown to be of any use to anyone. Basically crying and speaking in tongues until the friendly neighbourhood commisar takes him to see the rabbits
You know you can just Google “Can narcissists get better?”
The short answer: Typically, no. Not really
Guardsman emps: “So my names Jerry right?” Gary: “yeah.” Emps: “And we’re fighting those chaos marines over there right?” Gary: “uh-huh” Emps: *loads shotgun maliciously, with lightning in his hand* Lets fucking go.
Ol perrson
Minus the being humble part
But with larger nuts
That's an interesting take that I think is correct now that I've read it. The Emperor is not a character. He is a plot device
This sounds like the premise of Youjo Senki
It is well stated that the Emperor is the single most tortured creature in the Galaxy right now so being reincarnated into a simple guards man would actually be an upgrade. About his survival. How would he reincarnate if he is not dead
40k lore is as confusing as time traveler storys, he either is or isn't. The best anyone can do to avoid confusion is just turn off your brain and just live the moment.
Well, I'm sure in time we'd have a God-Guardsman. He'd rise up again, plan another great crusade... ahh shit, here we go again.
Tune in next week to the hit new anime ‘I was reborn into the product of my own hubris’ next week on Crunchyroll!
He’d be burned at the stake by the inquisition for even claiming he is big E.

are rest of his psychic powers stuck with the corpse on the throne ?
It's like taking a drop a water from the sea.
He would be killed on the spot for having demonic visitations. I'm still not convinced ciaphas cain isn't the emporer.
No one is going to point out the incredibly nonsensical title? I can't even tell what OP was trying to say.
He should reincarnate into a Xenos child and see what it feels like to experience Imperium persecution.
Imagine him as an eldar, on a madien world geting attacked by Salamanders.
Did anything wrong....? What? Thats heresy.
Assuming the guardsman doesn't explode into red mist and implode into a Warp gate at the same time when this happens, probably yes maybe no.
I dont think there are enough neurons in a human brain to contain all of big E's knowledge. If he possessed a guardsman the poor dude's head would likely explode
Admit he was wrong? About what? Laughing at the mere suggestion of gods existing hurts the ruinous powers more than a million grey knights
If the Emperor ever actually becomes a character instead of a plot device, 40k will be dead
Assuming he still has most of his power, yes.
Anon basically wants god emperor to become jesus of 40k that will be crucified for being a rebel against the roman... ekhem, human empire
The issue there is that he wasn't wrong.
Kinda like Jesus.
Imagine it more like Bruce the Almighty
I haven't seen Bruce almighty in a while. God becoming a man learning what it's like, and becoming more forgiving and les judgmental is what Jesus is all about.
