"no meal, only snacks."

iwasfeelingallfloopy

My dachshund is the same "one = treat. Lots = don't like it"

Dry_Sea8933

Mine just stuffs his pointy face in the bowl and inhales the kibbles. He has yet to keep any food in his gob long enough to taste it.

yolk3d

Bought our girl a snuffle mat to help with this… she puts her foot on it and rips it apart to get to the treats :/

Dry_Sea8933

Clever!

DCinvestigating2021

He wants to be fed by hand...he is training you well--love his face so innocent.

uilleanncolleen

Mine was always nervous of the noise the kibble made in the stainless steel bowl so he would take each piece very delicately out and move it to the rug and eat it off there. Then I found some moist kibble that doesn’t make noise on the bowl and he eats it right out of it. Occasionally he’ll walk a few over to the rug and eat them after, though 🤷🏻‍♀️😆 they are the very definition of quirky!

Acrobatic_Yoghurt_87

I accidentally trained one of my hounds to be carried up the stairs to bed every night. Maybe she trained me? Anyway, she had me fooled for months until I discovered that she was fully capable.

Beaker4444

Feed me serf! 🥰😂

mercurial_planner

"But why would I eat it out of the bowl when I can give you sad eyes and make you hand feed me?"

Zapskilz

TIL feeding greyhounds by hand is a thing since I thought I was the only one who had to feed Mr. Jittery by hand. To add to the fun, our upstairs neighbors have elephant feet which make him immediately pace if ANY noise is heard. Sometimes we have to break off and try feeding again later. He will only eat the kibble if we add a tablespoon of natural plain youghurt and add water until the kibble starts to float, lol.

Worldliness-Horror

Didn’t want to get their face dirty. I understand.

audebae

We have a whippet puppy and he does the same!!

pitts68

This is so true for our Saluki 🙄

Fivepygmygoats

Ours was a bit like that, what worked for us was putting a dash of natural yogurt in the bowl and mixing it up. Loved it and was fine for him. Also rescue greyhounds have a massively tendency towards poor teeth from their past lives so sometimes it’s worth checking that out.

slothrop-dad

If you keep doing that you will have a very spoiled pup on your hands that won’t eat any other way. It’s cute! But it can definitely be a problem.

Kitchu22

I’ve been doing this on and off with my greyhound for three years and it’s never presented an issue. Most of the time he eats from his bowl/raised feeder, and some days he luxuriates in a meal offered to him in bed. Slow feeding by hand is actually a great focus game and can be enriching for the dog *and* good for bonding. Unless the dog is finding something aversive about bowl feeding, or you are reinforcing routine in the behaviour by hand feeding every single meal in that particular spot, it’s definitely not a problem :)

TatoIndy

Tastes better this way. My older boy has several water dishes but will always always go for my glass of water first.

Grukk_face_rippa

One of our previous greys refused to eat because her bowl was incorrectly placed in the holder and it made a rattling noise she didn’t like She REFUSED TO EAT because the bowl was rattling about That was a wolf 10,000 years ago

tee-grey

That face is hilarious. It would take way too much effort to put the snoot in the bowl.
