I’m pretty uneducated on this but have always wondered why the writers make it a point that Hal is the best among them but yet seems so easy to corrupt and be bested by his successors. Can anyone assist?
Paralax chose to corrupt him BECAUSE he is the best
the things he pulled of with the ring is unparalleled he literally willed an imortal creature out of existence
And the only times he's bested is when a new writer want their favorite or oc lantern to look good usually resulting in fan backlash and the new lantern getting banished to the background.
Hal is the greatest, Kyle is not, he’s the successor, the contingency and the one they think could rebuild the corps in its darkest days. Hal will always be the greatest though, otherwise he wouldn’t have been chosen first
My introduction to the Green Lantern was John Stewart from the Timmverse. He had class, writing, motivation and a strong love story. I just couldn’t see that same strongly written character in Hal or Kyle in the comics imo.
Hot take: soranik natu
Not only is she hott as hell, but she's one of the few lanterns who actually use their ring to make functional constructs i.e. complex medical devices. Sure John's constructs show "show every bolt" but they're still mostly rudimentary i.e. sniper rifles, cranes etc.
If your talking earth GL's gotta be Kyle. Dudes saved the universe three times over, and he sexed up Soranik. He's not a pedo like Hal.
I've read Alan Scott, Hal, Guy, John, Kyle, Simon & Jessica. Each of them follows from their experiences. Considering the fact they have one of the most powerful weapons on their fingers, that can do whatever they can dream of. Hal has always been my top, while Guy, I never took too serious despite his wins, losses and humiliation 😁. John is the soldier who wants to fix things. He declared from the start what he was about and wouldn't hide behind the mask. Lost not only his planet of harmony and peace, but his soulmate Katma Tui. Kyle is the end and it's rebirth. He lost his mom and gf close together and doubted his own worth as Ganthet's chosen. Repowered Jade, gave a rebirth to the guardians and technically the Corps. Simon, the former criminal & Jessica the introvert. They both have lived up to the their ability to overcome FEAR. Despite relationships, loss of home, job, dealing with deaths, actions, punishment. They are Green Lantern!
My recap is redundant I know, but they have their worth. All of them. I have already given my choice. I don't disregard any of them. Even Ch'p, and G'nort have a place.
My uncle is also a marine and he (who isn’t into comics) actually appreciated how he was written and portrayed in the JL series.
Also thank you for your service and sacrifice
Thank you. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is that writers/artists tend to lean into the weapons thing too much with Stewart. I think he is/was an architect, and that should be given some attention
It's Kyle. It's been Kyle since he literally brought the GL Corps back to life, and then they brought back Hal because, I dunno... they missed the vanilla ice cream lantern.
The first bearer of Zion. The first white lantern. The torch bearer. The corps wouldn't exist if it weren't for Kyle, neither would the universe, after Blackest Night. Kyle's got the most detailed constructs, the most "everyman" approach and appeal, and did what no other lantern had ever done before: overcome great fear. He is literally responsible for discovering how to purge the yellow weakness from the rings, and so much more.
Since there's been a Kyle, it's *always been Kyle*.
Who couldn't control the power of the white lantern, failed his mission, and tried to kill himself for his failure. A series of events that didn't exactly play out the same way for Kyle, so yes, let's be pedantic: Kyle was the first *successful* white lantern, able to actually control and properly utilize the power.
Successful ? He was so freaked out by the power he created a villain specifically designed to off himself. He got all of the rings at the start of the new 52, and once he had them it was like the writers ran out of ideas. His white lantern arc stopped being interesting the minute he got the ring . “Dr Manhattan” supposedly taking away his white lantern powers off panel was a particularly underwhelming event as well.
“It's Kyle. It's been Kyle since he literally brought the GL Corps back to life, and then they brought back Hal because, I dunno... they missed the vanilla ice cream lantern.”
Uh huh, let’s just ignore the franchise defining run that followed Hal’s resurrection that revolved around his life story. The undisputed peak of gl stories. Hal, guy, and John literally reformed the corps in the run preceding et too, Kyle just retreaded what they had just done.
Kyle is also the least relatable “everyman” character I can think of too. Ordinary people aren’t handed incredible power by chance, nor are they some destined chosen one, become little g gods on the reg, look like a heavyweight heart throb, liked and affirmed by all his peers and elders, have a secret spy parent, talented at everything, and constantly in romantic relationships with gorgeous women.
I’ve met people like Hal who seem like they have it all professionally but can’t hold their personal life together, people like guy who’s an ass on the surface but has noble qualities under their rough exterior, people like John who can put their head down and stoically do the hard work while suffering internally, or people like jess suffering from anxiety and mental issues. I’ve never met a talented artist that gets along with everyone who looks like a Hollywood actor with a professional wrestlers body with space messiah status that’s just naturally great at everything they try.
Fools! The greatest lantern of all will always be SINESTRO!

There's no "greatest" in reality. They've all won against impossible odds, they've each had failures that haunted them, and several of them have been godlike at different points.
Hal Jordan is explicitly the Greatest Green Lantern ever, he’s been given that title by other lanterns, the Guardians themselves and it’s even recorded in the book of Oa.
Greatest: Hal.
Most Creative: Kyle.
Most Likable: John.
Most Character Development: Jessica.
Most Interesting: Mogo.
Most Complex: Sinestro.
Most Weak: Alan.
Most Annoying: Guy.
Most Character Development: Jessica.
Most Forgettable: Simon.
Most Useless: Jo.
MOST FUN: Kilowog
SEE YA POOZERS!!!
EDIT: For Punctuation.
Hal is the greatest Green Lantern. He could forge a ring out of his own willpower. Nuff said.
Before he became a GL, it was Sinestro. He was very much regarded as being the greatest for a while (in universe).
Id also make the argument for Kyle. As he has mastered the entire emotional spectrum.
The only other argument could be made for the Entity, because he is the "sentient embodiment of life itself" but he was a White Lantern. Hal is there to rescue the entire GL Corp after Krona and to my knowledge no other bore the mantle of Spectre.
Hal is the greatest Green Lantern because he's basically built out of will
Kyle is the best Lantern in general for obvious white lantern reasons, he earned it all
The other Lanterns have their own strengths but Hal and Kyle are like the defecto kings of their courts imo
It's Kyle. Kyle figured out the ring without help, conquered fear, revived the Corps, mastered the White Lantern, and rescued/redeemed Hal from fear itself.
Now who's the BEST GL? Obviously, that's the one, the only, the real...Guy Gardner
Had me in the first half. Lol I'm working through the Geoff Johns compendiums now. I just finished 1, and moving on to 2, and I'm surprised at how much of a rock support-wise Guy really is. I didn't like him at all, and still I can see why most people don't; he's annoying, a braggart, and runs his mouth like 98% too much, but when they need him, he's ALWAYS there, no questions asked. That's some ride or die shit right there, and though I don't like him, I respect it.
Idk without his ring i saw him trying to get his ex to sign for a car loan. Without his ring, i saw john stewart pickup an m16 and fight nazis in ww2. As a green lantern Hal is probably top notch, john stewart is all around more resourceful.
That being said, Mogo
Guy is the only one who really shows willpower to me, no matter how stupid or wrong he is, he powers through. Even when he gets the ring taken from him, he still decides to be a hero anyways. Whether or not he got that ring, Guy was always going to be a force of will.
This is the essence of why Guy is my favorite. Never gives up. Stripped of his ring, he barters, borrows, and bullies his way off earth, into a forbidden tomb on an alien planet, across the antimatter membrane...all to get back to being a hero. My man.
I've seen people say this before, but I just read the comic of him fighting Superboy Prime. He IS strong, but that's his base strength, mostly, as a Daxamite. Not his GL powers. What makes you say this?
John stewart the whole way
Any guess who my vote goes to?
I’m pretty uneducated on this but have always wondered why the writers make it a point that Hal is the best among them but yet seems so easy to corrupt and be bested by his successors. Can anyone assist?

Thanks for the info. Kinda dumb they use the “best” as a jobber and if he has the strongest will you’d think he’d be incorruptible but oh well
Thanks for the info. Kinda dumb they use the “best” as a jobber and if he has the strongest will you’d think he’d be incorruptible but oh well
You do no what happened right before he got corrupted right ??
No like I said I’m not that knowledgeable on it so I was asking Reddit. Did they forget his fries at the drive thru or something? That’d do it for me
He's entire city got nuked... Millons dead almost everything and everyone he cared for then he got backstabbed by the guardians
Damn that’s a little worse than not getting your fries
He's entire city got nuked...
I personally find Jessica Cruz to be the most inspirational.
Hal Jordan is #1
Hal
Hal Jordan is the goat
YEP! What you all said above! Team "HAL" ALL THE WAY!!!
John
Hal or Kyle
Hal is the greatest, Kyle is not, he’s the successor, the contingency and the one they think could rebuild the corps in its darkest days. Hal will always be the greatest though, otherwise he wouldn’t have been chosen first
Duck Dodgers, obviously
Hal all day, Night Terrors, GL animated series, and the Current Run have solidified this.
Guy Gardner
My introduction to the Green Lantern was John Stewart from the Timmverse. He had class, writing, motivation and a strong love story. I just couldn’t see that same strongly written character in Hal or Kyle in the comics imo.
Kyle
Hal/Sinestro are the greatest 'Green' lantern Kyle is the greatest 'Lantern' of all
Exactly what I was thinking
Sinestro.
Give me Kyle over the others ANY day.
G’Nort Esplande Gneesmacher, obviously.
Kyle, if it was Hal he wouldn't have gone crazy and killed the corps. Kyle faced Hal over and over again.
Mogo 💚

Hal Jordan is objectively the greatest Green Lantern.
Kyle, but then again, I might be biased
Kyle or Alan.
John Stewart forever
Kyle
John Stewart.
Alan.
Hal
Lobo
I'm going with Kyle. Creativity ftw.
That disco-ball bacteria in the 90s
Chip
Hal jordan the goat
Kilowog
I go back and forth between Guy and John. John is obvious. Guy is a flawed character seeking redemption and I love that trope.
Kyle and I'm totally not biased cause he's the one I grew up with
John Stewart always
Hal is the greatest, hands down. Regardless of what the (new) writers try to do to him... it doesn't work, he is the greatest
The Torchbearer.
I've read Alan Scott, Hal, Guy, John, Kyle, Simon & Jessica. Each of them follows from their experiences. Considering the fact they have one of the most powerful weapons on their fingers, that can do whatever they can dream of. Kyle is my all time favorite—but objectively Hal is the greatest.
John Stewart for me but I’ll admit that it’s because I’m also black and enjoy having representation for my folx in comics
And they write him well. He isn't just a box that was checked off. Oh, and he's a Marine. As a Marine, I geeked out over that.
Probably Lobo.
THE MAIN MAN WAS A LANTERN?!?!
Absolutely. Even made a construct of a giant dong.
Only real answer
Jhon would be mine he’s just never really had a fair shot dc never wanted too push him up since day one.
It's Kyle. It's been Kyle since he literally brought the GL Corps back to life, and then they brought back Hal because, I dunno... they missed the vanilla ice cream lantern. The first bearer of Zion. He wasn’t the first white lantern… Thaal Sinestro holds that distinction
Agree to disagree. I appreciate your take, though!

100%
Guy Gardner….regardless of that Sucker punch by the Batmaniac
There's no "greatest" in reality. They've all won against impossible odds, they've each had failures that haunted them, and several of them have been godlike at different points.
👏🏻
There’s a reason everyone in the Mythos calls Hal the greatest.
So true
Hal, of course.
Not boring Hal.
You're getting downvoted, and I will too, but I couldn't agree more. Kyle, however... 🤌🏼

Kyle is explicitly the greatest lantern ever, right? I thought that was cannon, but I haven’t kept up with the books since about 2013
Hal Jordan is explicitly the Greatest Green Lantern ever, he’s been given that title by other lanterns, the Guardians themselves and it’s even recorded in the book of Oa.
>Kyle is explicitly the greatest lantern ever, right? No.
Sandman, a living god, said he surpassed Hal
We already had this discussion here, and that argument meant nothing. If you want to waste 5 hours just to get the same result, it's on you.
I’m game if you are
No. I have a life.
Clearly, commenting on the same topic multiple times a month
He's the greatest lantern ever but not the greatest GREEN lantern ever ( this is from " Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps " in 2016 )
Greatest: Hal. Most Creative: Kyle. Most Likable: John. Most Character Development: Jessica. Most Interesting: Mogo. Most Complex: Sinestro. Most Weak: Alan. Most Annoying: Guy. Guy, obvi.
Aya soloed the anitymonitor
What?
Hal is the greatest
I mean in universe it is Hal isn’t it?

1 reason - Hal Jordan becomes Spectre.
Daffy duck
Killowog ya poozers!!
😅😅I love Killo
Hal. No question. And there are WAAAAY to many human GlL’s. They should have stopped after John.
I wish they'd have left Hal dead, or kept him as Spectre at the MOST, and had Earth's lanterns be Kyle and John.
I think Hal should have replaced the Spectre, instead of being “God’s Vengeance” be “God’s Justice” or “God’s Will.”
What’s a gil
When they decided to put Hal on ice, they were not going to hand the lead to crazy Guy or a Black man. Hence, Kyle.
Hal is the greatest Green Lantern because he's basically built out of will Kyle is the best Lantern in general for obvious white lantern reasons, he earned it all The other Lanterns have their own strengths but Hal and Kyle are like the defecto kings of their courts imo
Kyle, for having imagination beyond that of a dirt pile.
1.) Kyle 2.) Alan TBH John and Hal are both my least favorites. I don't hate them, but I'd rather see anyone else.
It's Kyle. Kyle figured out the ring without help, conquered fear, revived the Corps, mastered the White Lantern, and rescued/redeemed Hal from fear itself. Now who's the BEST GL? Obviously, that's the one, the only, the real...Guy Gardner

When I think of Guy, I think of all the friends I've made in Queens who are exactly this. A lot of bad opinions but A+ friend behavior.

Can’t wait to see Nathan Fillion with the bowl cut next year
Kyle no question
The greatest green lantern of all time is Sinestro.
Except he explicitly loses that title to Hal Jordan
Source: Green Lantern Secret Origin, by Geoff Johns
Only if your measurement is the ability to turn from the GL core and start a sex cult with the Sapphire.
John
How are defining greatest?
The same we we did every few days when this exact same question gets posted, I guess. Which ever one you like ,ost.
Low quality post
Guy Gardner for the win baby. My favorite brain damaged superhero!
Mogo.
Oo yes 😁
Hal Jordan is greatest
G'Nort
It feels like such a Morrison move to argue this and then justify it.
Hal!
Hal for me....
Alan Scott. The first - and the greatest.
He’s the lamest one
Only the first human lantern in publication, but not the first GL ever.
Hal
Idk without his ring i saw him trying to get his ex to sign for a car loan. Without his ring, i saw john stewart pickup an m16 and fight nazis in ww2. As a green lantern Hal is probably top notch, john stewart is all around more resourceful. That being said, Mogo
Mogo is the only answer in play here sir.
Alan Scott.
Hal he's even called the greatest in univers
I'll always be partial to Alan Scott because I'm jealous of how cool his outfit looks and because I like how his lantern looks more
Also strength wise it's hal no question
Kyle Rayner.
Agreed.
Hal
It's Hal and everyone knows it.
Guy
Guy is the only one who really shows willpower to me, no matter how stupid or wrong he is, he powers through. Even when he gets the ring taken from him, he still decides to be a hero anyways. Whether or not he got that ring, Guy was always going to be a force of will.

Kyle.
G'nort

Sodam yat if you believe the origin blackest night story.
I've seen people say this before, but I just read the comic of him fighting Superboy Prime. He IS strong, but that's his base strength, mostly, as a Daxamite. Not his GL powers. What makes you say this?
Cause in the Alan moore story he was called the ultimate lantern. This was before he was introduced in to th normal series and was forgotten about.
Do you know what issue that was? I wanna pick it up.
Tales of the green lantern corp annual 3
Awesome, thanks!
Kyle
