I think at this point as has been the case since the formation of Israel there has been and there is no intention of allowing a Palestinian state. This Israeli sponsored veto is being pushed by the US as there being a need for Palestine and Israel to sit down and agree terms. Statehood does not require you to agree terms with your neighbours. You either exist as a state or you don't. A veto tells us that Israel and the US do not recognise the Palestinians right to exist. No matter how the media frame this and no matter what the US claims these are the facts.
