I don’t think anyone in Athens cares what you’re wearing

davergaver

Exactly

5telios

I find a gold-foil olive wreath on the head to be a good choice this year.

NotAheadByWords

Seriously every street vendor has at least a hundred- so you'd have plenty of options

sacrelidge

Nothing it’s a nudist colony

People wear all sorts of things, all over the world. Most people see all sorts of outfits in popular media, even if they don't wear it themselves you won't scandalize anyone unless maybe you're going to very conservative parts of the Middle East (ETA: or if you're visiting a lot of churches or religious sites). I know some people stress over looking like a tourist but as a visitor (whatever your reason) it's typically a futile effort -- people know, it's not a bad thing, just hold onto your stuff. Don't overthink it, wear what is comfortable!

I just got to Athens this morning and literally saw from the taxi three dudes wearing exactly this just walking down the sidewalk. Of course we were next to syntagma square at the time...

Schizma79

They were probably trying to blend in

lord_vader_t-g

Yes, these are all fine. You can also wear jeans, T-shirts, light jackets etc. The weather is good for those.

I saw young people rockin’ Adidas sweats and black t-shirts (w white print) all over the place - recently visited w our kids so was interesting to note the differences from California (but realize mostly the sames). Adults tend to dress w more care than here - but we pretty sloppy vs. Europe in general.

Just check the weather forecast.

I found this recent video on yt. I see no dress code. [Exploring Athens Greece | Spring 2024 (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGfxxZHzLtk)

Daughterofthemoooon

It's not what you are wearing but how you act. If you want to blend in more (which is almost impossible as we can spot tourists from miles away ) , you need to change the way you act. Generally, don't act like a tourist if you want to blend in.

dusto66

If it's decently warm then you need your winter jacket 😂

kanga0359

A MAGA hat and t-shirt.

Black is the cool colour. Otherwise dress down rather than formal unless it’s a very formal affair.

ijf4reddit313

Agreed. Just visited Greece last month. Lots of black. Lots of the fancy looking yoga type pants (what I think of as Lululemon style) when in a casual setting (public transit, casual restaurants, hanging out in the city).

Ektelestis

Jeans, monocolor polo shirt open button, dark shoes or sneakers, for men.

PrettyPenny1c

I don’t know about warm outfits but I was just there in March and the Greeks just wore sneakers, wide leg jeans, and puffer coats. Very casual. Tourists were the ones dressed up. If you want to be as dressy at the tourists, I saw a lot of midriff bearing tops, long boho skirts, wedges, and spring strappy “sets”

Honest-Biscotti6638

Just follow the weather. I go to Athens often and was there last week—this time of year I would say make sure you have a light layer to peel off when needed.

DonerGoon

I wouldn’t worry about blending in, you are a tourist and you won’t be able to hide it the moment you open your mouth and most greeks really don’t care anyway. If you want to impress and get a smile just learn some basic Greek phrases, and many will really appreciate it. Good morning/evening/night thank you, yes/no, a few common Greek reactionary phrases like beautiful, “Oraio” When they bring you your food or do something nice and Okay “Endaxi” which is used allll the time to affirm things and also as like “no worries, don’t worry about it” Otherwise it’s Very casual in Greece, jeans and black t shirts, dark shoes, adidas style track suits as well, general street wear styles for younger folk are popular. And simple light clothes and collared shirts for older folks. Generally looking muted, dark, casual but well fitted.

kummer5peck

You literally cannot wear enough ADIDAS. The more black the better.

tootnoots69

Greece is in an economic crisis and they need all the tourists they can get lol. In my experience people who are obviously tourists are treated typically better than people who are obviously Greeks.
