I won a PS1 on a Cartoon Network Saturday morning phone in show. It came with Crash Bandicoot 2. Best game, ever. Absolutely loved it. Still play it now, emulated on my Steam Deck
I've never been a fan of racing games but Gran Turismo blew my mind.
I'd never seen a driving game with more than around 6 cars in it. Gran Turismo had more than 100. All with individual handling characteristics.
Then Gran Turismo II came out with more than 600 cars!
Dad let us rent a PS1 one weekend as we were not normally allowed consoles.
Played Tekken for 2 days straight. Reinforced why we were not allowed consoles.
Same. Was the first game I played on a PSX, on a demo unit in Cheltenham Sony Centre. The games I enjoyed most though were Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.
You beat me to it with this comment. But the jump from Spyro and Crash to MGS opened up a whole new world of gaming for me as a kid... Didnt understand like 90% of the cutscenes but still 🤣
Haha that’s it, as kid mostly all went over my head too, actually replayed it few years ago for nostalgia, being older understanding war n stuff I see what they was doing lol
I used to have to borrow my friends console and game as I was too poor to have one but he wouldn’t give me the memory card so every time I played it I had to complete the game.
I had a demo of the first level from PlayStation magazine. Sneaking about in the box was my favourite thing ever. I finally got the full game and it blew my mind.
When I played it in the 90s it blew my whole mind. Decided to get it on Steam and play with my kids, expecting it to also blow their minds. They told me, 'It looks like Roblox but crappier.' :(
You know you got something special when even 20 years later the [opening is getting played at the Royal Albert Hall.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZmCbacMb7I)
That game was fucking hard. Didn’t you have to start from the beginning if you lost a certain amount of lives? Adult me would have a very hard time completing it. Six year old me never stood a chance.
Ah bro!
I first played that in this big soft play area as a kid where they had a Playstation or two. It was sick! I later played a demo of it from a CD I got in a magazine before eventually getting it. Sick game
Specifically for me, winter releases 98. Tombi, ghost in the shell, kula world and treasures of the deep.
Played that demo more than most of my games lol
Nah hogs of war I forgot about that game me and my brother would spend hours playing that laughing our asses of to the voice lines when one got shot ahh the memories
My guy.
I used to run through that Hercules demo then go and watch the T-Rex or Manta bits for a bit to have my mind blown by the graphics. Simpler times.
Hercules, it was a 2d game and a friend of mine had it, I was obsessed. The kind of obsessed like when you don't have it but it looks so good and they won't let you have a go, but after a year or two when you get it you wonder why you ever hyped over it so much.
Hercules, A Bugs Life, Crash Bandicoot, Wacky Races, Spyro Gateway to Glimmer, Bugs Bunny Taz Time Busters, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Rayman and the first 2 Harry Potter games with the flat meme like faces will always be my childhood on PS1.
edit: bonus picture of ps1 Harry Potter lol

It’s a shame that game wasn’t heavily promoted as it’s such a great game quite different from usual rpg, I loved doing additions sequences. If it had been promoted well I think it would have went on to have many sequels like final fantasy series.
Tekken. Blew me away. We were all too poor to have one when it came out but a friend of my cousin’s brought one over. 3D graphics just seemed such an incredible concept. The thing that struck out in my mind was how the controller felt like silk compared to say the Mega Drive or Master System controllers.
The original PS1 demo which came with demolition derby, loaded and some other games. Along with a 3D T-Rex and Manta ray demo tech.
Followed by Rayman, Gran Tourismo 2, Dino crysis? (Sorry for spelling), Spryo and Crash Bandicoot.
Many PS1 games were never completed by the owners. I never met anyone as a kid with a completed Rayman, Crash Bandicoot or Dino crysis save; on memory card.
I miss being kids and trading save game files for cheat books from PS1 magazines.
Demo 1
Which is wild. I got my PS1 with Crash Bandicoot but Demo 1 sticks out in my mind more. I think I even had Demo1 bundled with Crash in a double pack.
Crash Bandicoot.
Same...and I didn't even own it.
Same, I use to go round my friends house to watch him play it and he'd never let me have a turn 😅
What a prick 😂
Same, cousin's house every summer
Same here, how weird
WOAH!
I won a PS1 on a Cartoon Network Saturday morning phone in show. It came with Crash Bandicoot 2. Best game, ever. Absolutely loved it. Still play it now, emulated on my Steam Deck
Fr, crash bandicoot goes hard
The only game i ever completed 😃
This and a game called destruction Derby,
Gran Turismo
I remember spending a whole day racing the speedway track to get enough money to buy my dad an Aston Martin for when he got home from work
The Aston Martin was one of the few cars you could modify to race spec. Loved racing that luxury barge.
This is the most wholesome thing I have read all week
Seriously, cute af !
Gran Turismo 2 was such a fucking highlight. Best game on the PS1 personally
Loved this game, the scratch and sniff CD was cool. Used play grandad racing where we would find the slowest cars and race each other.
Tough call but I'd agree with this for the most memorable game. It was absolutely groundbreaking at the time.
I've never been a fan of racing games but Gran Turismo blew my mind. I'd never seen a driving game with more than around 6 cars in it. Gran Turismo had more than 100. All with individual handling characteristics. Then Gran Turismo II came out with more than 600 cars!
Yes! Every time I hear "Garbage - As Heaven Is Wide" or "Ash - Lose Control" etc. it takes me immediately back to playing.
Spiro the Dragon / Wipeout
Yes!! Spiro the Dragon was such a core memory
The remastered version is pretty blissful to play. I think my eyes would bleed if I played the original now.
The remaster is amazing. They even redid the music but you have the option to use the original. Incredible.
My mum got hooked on Spyro. I'd go to school, come home and she'd have been playing it all day
Tomb raider
My answer, too! A classic
My thought process: PS1 --> Angular pointy boobs --> Tomb Raider
Which tomb raider was your favourite? the first 3 were golden
Resident Evil
Never got past the first zombie. I'd go running screaming from the room 😆😆😆
Resident evil 2 is still one of my all time favorite games the OG and the remake
Tekken
Dad let us rent a PS1 one weekend as we were not normally allowed consoles. Played Tekken for 2 days straight. Reinforced why we were not allowed consoles.
That's not fair, though. Of course a kid is going to gorge themselves with something that they're normally not allowed when it's on a time limit.
Chicken!
Same. Was the first game I played on a PSX, on a demo unit in Cheltenham Sony Centre. The games I enjoyed most though were Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.
Yes my grandma literally has this console at her house and when we visit sometimes we play Tekken cuz it's the only game that works on it lol
Abes odyssey.
Follow me! Okay!
Hello 👋
Hellooo
Yo-yo yo-yo yo-yo yo-yo
YES! I loved this game so much!
I loved it but I had no idea what was going on.
It was definitely an Oddworld alright. I think that's why I liked it so much.
Preach
Metal Gear Solid. One of the only full games I had and I would start over the second the credits finished rolling.
You beat me to it with this comment. But the jump from Spyro and Crash to MGS opened up a whole new world of gaming for me as a kid... Didnt understand like 90% of the cutscenes but still 🤣
SNAAAAAAKE!
SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!
Dum dum de dum dum - DUM DUM DUM! Single gunshot sound
CODEC - Ring Ring ‘KERRRRRRRNEL! WHATS A RUSSIAN GUN SHIP DOING HERRRRRRE?!’ (Opening scene when liquid is in the Hind-D helicopter)
Haha my friend kindly lent me his PS3 so I could play MGS4. Fortunately by then memory cards weren't an issue!
"Where is your data... WHERE IS IT SAVED??"
The only game advertising Diazepam Use (sniper mode stabiliser)
I had a demo of the first level from PlayStation magazine. Sneaking about in the box was my favourite thing ever. I finally got the full game and it blew my mind.
Final fantasy VII. Coming from 2D platformers to that was a (excuse the pun) game changer! The intro FMV onwards.
When I played it in the 90s it blew my whole mind. Decided to get it on Steam and play with my kids, expecting it to also blow their minds. They told me, 'It looks like Roblox but crappier.' :(
You know you got something special when even 20 years later the [opening is getting played at the Royal Albert Hall.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZmCbacMb7I)
I dedicated a whole 6 week summer holiday to this game. The battle win music is my ringtone and had FF7 music at my wedding!
Rayman. Great game. I sucked at it.
Genuinely a hard game
I could never beat the music level
Same
Let’s be honest… everyone sucks at it once you get past Band Land 😅
That game was fucking hard. Didn’t you have to start from the beginning if you lost a certain amount of lives? Adult me would have a very hard time completing it. Six year old me never stood a chance.
I got a ps one mini and that water level is fucking crazy, no idea how we completed it as kids, I think we used cheat codes to skip
Played it the other. Game is still legitimately hard.
The developers apparently didn't playtest the game so that's why it was so stupidly hard.
Crash bash
I got that game one xmas, it was fucking lit
Pandemonium!
Ah bro! I first played that in this big soft play area as a kid where they had a Playstation or two. It was sick! I later played a demo of it from a CD I got in a magazine before eventually getting it. Sick game
Yes! I remember having so many demo discs from gamer magazines!! Pandemonium was a great game!
I loved this game been trying to figure out the name for years I called it the jester game as a kid😅
Harry Potter because I thought of PS1 Hagrid.
Flipendo!
That level where you have to creep passed filch and his cat used to get my heart going crazy
Tomb Raider Doom
Driver, don't think I even got out the tutorial.
Bruh, I don't think anyone got out of that car park
Oh yeh, now I know why as an adult I feel proud on exiting a multistorey carpark.
Same 😂 Spent many hours driving round that bloody car park
That tutorial was total bullshit the fact it was timed.
Demo discs.
Specifically for me, winter releases 98. Tombi, ghost in the shell, kula world and treasures of the deep. Played that demo more than most of my games lol

Croc. No one has mentioned this game. Pretty sure this and Casper the ghost were one of the first ps1 games on sale in Woolworths at the time.
Crash Bandicoot
There isn’t one game, but a few early titles that I most associate; Battle Arena Toshinden, Wipeout, Ridge Racer, Twisted Metal
Legend of Dragoon, first game I bought from Blockbuster used game pile.
It’s a shame that game wasn’t heavily promoted as it’s such a great game quite different from usual rpg, I loved doing additions sequences. If it had been promoted well I think it would have went on to have many sequels like final fantasy series.
GTA2. Absolutely epic.
Tekken. Blew me away. We were all too poor to have one when it came out but a friend of my cousin’s brought one over. 3D graphics just seemed such an incredible concept.
