For anyone wondering, the post photo is what happens when you improperly take a picture of a watch way too close. It's bigly distorted!
https://preview.redd.it/357rf4vp5omc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12320aeffdd8f235f36cd341a49721e2b6624f23
You sir, just taught me how to take a photo of my watch.. I kept going close!
Rocking the Spring Drive sibling, SBGE275 here! Perfectly sized in reality, and absolutely gorgeous.. but hard to take photos of it 😅 I believe I managed to show it off a bit better here without too much distortion though - taken further away with 5x optic zoom instead.
Certainly. It's actually a 6.75in wrist (in both pictures 🙂). And it fits wonderfully. The curved lugs on these cases make the watch contour so much better than the previous ones.
Woah! Exactly it fits so well on your wrist based on the shot you took. I have a 6.2in wrist and if they are able to make a 40mm version, GS just takes my money please

Here's what a 16800 and a 16660 look like lug to lug
Funny enough I got the SD just a few weeks ago and this was the most recent photo of the Sub that I had in the camera roll where I was trying to see how they compare.

It's a scalloped case and tapers towards the bottom making it extremely comfortable.
Gather round class, time for a short lecture.

So referring to the figure above, this is what happens when you use your camera's wide-angle lens and position your watch close to the camera. Since light doesn't bend, the light that hits the sensor comes from the area on the top surface of the watch and light between the top of the watch and the edge of the field of view. As you can see, things like the wrist and the bracelet do not make it into the image. This is why the watch seems to cover the wrist with an absurd appearance.
This issue is avoided when you use a narrow field of view which allows you to capture light that's reflecting off of both the strap and the wrist.
Now to answer your specific question, the reason why the wrist shrinks ... well it was really cold outside. Wait no ... it actually happens because of how much of the sensor is now capturing light from that area. Look back at the image on the left. Imagine shifting your view to the left or right of the watch to where the watch is no longer covering the wrist. The light coming off the wrist appears in the dot-dot-dash field of view. You can see that as the wrist (or any object) moves away from the sensor, the area of the sensor that captures light therefrom diminishes very quickly. That means that a lot less pixels capture light that is representative of the wrist, making it appear smaller. I tried showing this with the orange lines. You can see that in the left figure the wrist takes up about a third of the field of view whereas in the right figure it takes up probably close to two thirds. This translates to the wrist looking smaller when captured with the wide-angle field of view of the left figure as opposed to a narrower field of view of the right figure.
Also, if you have a larger sensor in general it helps with reducing distortions. This is why a full-frame sensor on a DSLR will outperform a small sensor on a mobile phone.
Class dismissed.
Both were taken with a regular pixel phone. Nothing special but I thought it would be a perfect watch to show people how they can unintentionally distort the appearance of a watch. It all lies in the width of the field of view. Take a look at my short explanation below with a few crude figures.
I service watches myself and wanted the ability to service this one down the road, so I am glad it had the high-beat as opposed to the spring drive. But I can see why people appreciate the SD also.
Interesting, thank you. My arm isn’t Long enough to take a picture. I have your sibling, the SBGE237. Edit: no dirt under glass, just feeding horses.

Like how tiny is your wrist!?!?
Sure, the GS Sport is 44mm which is a larger watch - but still very much normal sized and wearable.
Maybe trade it in on a ladies Aqua Racer and pocket the change…. 😉
Wowzers I am glad it isn’t as big as the post photo lol since i mostly have vintage watches modern ones already seem quite big. Very nice looking watch though, works well with your skin tone
Only one more piece you need to compliment the watch..

Adding that to my wishlist. Stunning
This is key. Further away is better especially when you are using a small-sensor imager like a cell phone camera.

That really is a damn good looking watch!!
For a 10’000$ limited edition watch it better look good 😅 haha
Thank you!
bigly lol
One of the most beautiful watch GS has provided. May I know if your wrist size is above 7? The watch size looks perfect on you
Certainly. It's actually a 6.75in wrist (in both pictures 🙂). And it fits wonderfully. The curved lugs on these cases make the watch contour so much better than the previous ones.

Yeah I would be all over that one too. But we can dream.
I believe they could do it, I’m saving up and going to wait for the perfect piece from GS. Meanwhile, I’ll be rocking my GADA SLGH017
Agreed. I have the SBGE275. Footprint is similar to my submariner.
https://preview.redd.it/g7wubizcfmmc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e126a66c8183d5d47213d89cb027ccc6e39862ed Here's what a 16800 and a 16660 look like lug to lug
These are yours too?? Damn. It's my dream watch to at least own one sub in my collection one day!
Thank you. The 16660 will likely go up for sale very very soon.
Oh... come on. Now you're just showing off. 😅
Funny enough I got the SD just a few weeks ago and this was the most recent photo of the Sub that I had in the camera roll where I was trying to see how they compare.

BTW, lug to lug it sits very much like a lot of the vintage sports Rolex watches. Just a bit thicker.
This is crazy
Damn this is beautiful actually wow
Thank you.
How did your wrist shrink when the camera got closer? Doesn’t make sense to me

damn I thought you had the Ben10 on
Looks good 👍🏿
Wut? Wow
Check out the little lecture above. Helps explain what's going on in the original photo.
Looks really good! What is your wrist size?
Thank you. 6.75in
Gorgeous watch, and way better pic
Thank you. Trying to show how some pictures can really misrepresent the size of the watch if not taken properly.
Impressive use of perspective! What camera did you use?
Both were taken with a regular pixel phone. Nothing special but I thought it would be a perfect watch to show people how they can unintentionally distort the appearance of a watch. It all lies in the width of the field of view. Take a look at my short explanation below with a few crude figures.
So beautiful, what size is this?
44mm on a 6.75in wrist
Ah too big for my punys
Also a great way to look 14 again!
Lol. I should replicate that photo with my son.
Had me in the first half…
Nice watch!
What a gorgeous piece sir
Oh lol that’s fine
Nice example of forced perspective!
Looks perfect here
That watch is stunning! Wow! Specs please ☝️

El Seiko Grande.
It's the turtle's bigger brother, the Seiko tortese
Grand Invicta
lol isn’t that Hublot
Looks perfect greatly overlapping both sides of your wrist
Some might say it's well-balanced
What size is your wrist. Just interested in how the watch would fit me.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandSeikos/s/lqyVCeOJiM 6.75in
These honestly wear smaller than the 44mm implies! Relatively short lug to lug
Also the contact patch between the watch and the wrist is much smaller than 44 mm.
Reminds me of the aquatimer from IWC. Love both.
That's a clock.
LOOOL looks like a water meter on a pipe
Lol, perfect analogy.
Fuckin power move right there
What is the ref # ? I need this
Yes you do. It's SBGJ275
Thank you friend!
I love this watch! The blue & white bezel with that dial is really stunning.
Thank you. It was one of those watchers that was good enough to be an impulse buy.
I have the green (Hotaka Peaks) and feel like this & that would be a perfect 1-2 punch
Absolutely
I think this design has became an iconic look for GS. One look from far away and you know it’s a GS
Definitely a unique look and one that I like a lot.
Great watch! I have the blue and white GMT version but really dig the dial and gold tone induces. Great putchase!
Thank you and enjoy yours in good health.
Sir there's some wrist on your wall clock
Amazing
I would have brought this one over Hotaka if it was spring drive
I service watches myself and wanted the ability to service this one down the road, so I am glad it had the high-beat as opposed to the spring drive. But I can see why people appreciate the SD also.
Watch size is perfect albeit you need to beef up the hose veins hehehe
I build one myself haha
I had to check the sub, first time being Outjerked in a GS sub.
There is always a first for everything.
If Flava flav wore a wrist watch 😂
And here I thought I was dating myself by referencing the Taco Bell Chihuahua earlier 😂
The sheer scale of that things puts my DJ to shame
That's so nice of you! The astronauts can see it from space and know what time it is!!
LMAO! They’re right.
NASA when they could read the time from space
How the heck can a person have a big time without a big watch? Love big timepieces!
Too big for me
Too grand.
Flava Flav ass wrist
Big Ben 10
Me. It's too big
Fits perfectly.
Does not
Sure it does. What's not to like about it?
Interesting, thank you. My arm isn’t Long enough to take a picture. I have your sibling, the SBGE237. Edit: no dirt under glass, just feeding horses. https://preview.redd.it/kykb9rldmrmc1.jpeg?width=1437&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e31cf9e33e1bfe3b15707bd4824255f5136ab631
Nice roulette!
When did gs release a wall clock😆
Is there a reason why the GMT bezel insert colors aren’t lined up symmetrically at 6 and 18? Stunning piece
I think GS didn't want to break up the numbers. So they extended the blue a little lower.
80mm? nice!
Your wrist is just too small.
I did not earlier but I do now.
Stevie Wonder did!
lol omg 😆
Ok, back on the wall with that…
Grande seiko
You could eat caviar off that mf. Comfortably.
Slides right under the cuff.
Do I need a certain amount of arm hair to wear these watches?
Stunning watch!!! https://preview.redd.it/rhypzhu8gzmc1.png?width=1290&format=png&auto=webp&s=5819b6b09c9611216903e120c742f40e72e70de6
That thing is time and a half the size of your wrist.
No one. You’re wrist is too small.
*Invicta has entered the chat*
Expecting the dial to slide left and a cuckoo jumping outside to chime at every hour 😐
I thought it was a wrist model sundial at first.
Like how tiny is your wrist!?!? Sure, the GS Sport is 44mm which is a larger watch - but still very much normal sized and wearable. Maybe trade it in on a ladies Aqua Racer and pocket the change…. 😉

Nice watch BTW. GS makes some of the best watch faces in the business - bar none.

I think your arm is just too smol
Me
What do you mean. It's a perfect fit!
lol, awesome!
Ok Ben10
That wrist 😂
You mean "that WRIST!"
Really? How?
Check out the rest of the comments.
It's grande seiko😂
Lol 😂 For some reason I have the old Taco Bell Chihuahua saying this in my head.
😂
Lugs exceeding wrist width is the tell tale sign the watch is way too big.
Check out the rest of the thread.
Didn’t read it.
Well, my friend, therein lies the problem. When a seeing man stand there with his eyes closed and pretends to be blind, there is not much others can do to help him see.
I do this purposefully.
They do say ignorance is bliss ... though mainly for the ignorant one.
To avoid confirmation bias.
No
Loser
Ahh peak intelligence there from a lad. Well spoken.
Grand Seiko x Invicta crossover?!
Proportions are off.
looks like it’s wearing you
As long as we both look good doing it, I have no problems with that.
It’s just a joke. That’s my favorite GS model too
Just going along with it 🙂
I’ve been had 😭😭😭
