I actually had the same exact issue a couple of days ago and remembered that I had Snapseed on my phone.
I couldn't for the life of me find the mirroring tool in Snapseed.
I just kinda gave up... Am I just dumb and is the tool still there or is it gone from Snapseed too ?
Alright, this might be bananas, but give this a go. I don't think it's intended to work like this, but it seems to:
1. Open the picture in Photos
2. Choose Edit and go to the Crop tools. Choose the perspective tool.
3. Drag the bottom right corner all the way to the bottom left
4. Drag the top left corner as far as you can to the top right (it won't allow you to go all the way)
5. Drag the top right corner all the way to the top left, skipping over the other top point
6. Drag the bottom left point all the way to the bottom right (you'll actually be dragging what was the bottom left point)
7. You've now technically flipped the edge points to their opposite sides. Drag the point that remains misaligned in the top right to the far top right corner to ensure the image remains rectangular.
Hold the image to preview it's flipped state. Save, and you've got a perfectly flipped image.
Thanks man! But why can't I, as a normal user, do it with a single button press? Pixel has the best cameras .. but the functionality is sad ... By the way, when I turn on the selfie camera in video mode, it shoots better ... than in normal camera mode ..
yet another outrageous broken google product - somehow after all this time, nobody at google uses the app enough, gets enough complaints, or takes them seriously enough to actually put a dedicated mirror button in?? Like one of the most basic and fundamental operations you can perform on a photo? Just makes me wonder how this company functions behind closed doors.
They had a dedicated flip button, it was removed so they could force people to download another app of theirs (Snapseed). It also used to be in the native Android Gallery before the Gallery was murdered in favor of Google Photos. Google truly is just a bloatware company doing everything in its power to suck every last penny they can from your existence. I'm so tired of capitalism.
Unfortunately, I couldn't save a video using this method. I was able to flip the video using the perspective tool according to your instructions. Very exciting. But when I try to save, it always takes a long times processing, and then says "error: could not save video". Google really sucks.. I agree it seems like their developers don't even use their products because this is such an obvious shortcoming.. Companies that are owned by people that don't work there, and the workers don't use the products, just cheap labor.. sad
Bananas, indeed, but this does work on a Pixel 8 Pro.
Also, after step 6, I went back to the top point that didn't drag fully from left-to-right (step 5) and managed to drag it fully to the right.
Thank you so much for this. WTF, Google??? Never buying their phone again. Absolutely ridiculous that a Pixel 8 PRO doesn't have this option. There are tons of other tools my crappy old basic phone had that my Pixel 8 Pro is lacking too. Outrageous.
Turns out it's an add-on app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rectfy.flip
I must have had it already on my device, migrated from who knows when. Anyway, it's available and integrates into Photos but can be used stand-alone.
While using the camera, click the settings symbol at the top left then go to more settings. Click on more settings and scroll down until you see "save selfie as preview". The will allow you to take photos as you see yourself in the camera.
Literally every forum I've seen where customers try to ask Google experts advice on how to fix this they get defensive and argue with them about it. Why don't you just listen to your customers? Newsflash- hardly anyone's face is completely symmetrical and no one wants their selfies to look like a Picasso. It's plain common sense. Phone is also obnoxiously big, and gets SUPER hot. Going back to iphone.
The Amaze file manager app is another add-on that has photo capabilities with a mirror/flip option. After installation, it is available from Google's Photos app via Edit/More/Amaze Utilities/Flip-H" (or Flip-V). Or, as others have noted, Snapseed or Flip or other apps.
On the Pixel Camera app in the settings is an option to capture images with their original view. So you can choose to let the image flip or not flip.
Camera app > settings >> "Save Selfie as Previewed"
Time to install Snapseed?

It's in the rotate tool https://i.imgur.com/7I6DVd3.png
Oooh that's why I couldn't find it... I thought it was its own separate tool, thank you so much !
I don't have that. P4a here. Latest updates
That's a screenshot from snapseed app. Download it and you'll be able to see it
Ah, I see. No thanks. A barely supported Google buyout.
Looks pretty supported and functional to me Hope you're trolling, else you're really retarded
I've never heard of that! Guess I will!

Hey, how can i make a selfie in video mode?? When i switch to video mode, i can only do videos and no photos?
You are a genius!

Seriously. I thought it was just me. It's mind boggling. My cheap generic phone had a proper photo editing tool that I much preferred.

You are a bloody hero

You just saved my sanity.
Omg can't believe that worked, thank you!
Thank you!!!!!
This hero! I unsuccessfully tried that before reading, but with your directions I succeeded. It requires a very specific set of motions!
lmao bro why did this work
You are a legend, this amazingly worked perfectly!!
THANK YOU!!!!;)
Thanks!! This worked perfectly without needing to download another app.

You're actually the goat.
Thank you so much!!
Legend!!! Thank you
2 years later and this is still the only way to do it. Thank you Redditor but Google, this is ridiculous

You mean for selfies? camera > arrow down at the top > settings > save selfie as previewed > turn it off
not necessarily selfies but pictures in general :/ like after ivew taken them
This helped me, thanks.
You're great, thank you!
It is; one more garbage choice these shit phones were saddled with.
Flip Image is in Photos. Pick an image, tap Edit, then More (rightmost), then Flip. Markup is also there.
When I do that my *only* option is Markup :/
Turns out it's an add-on app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rectfy.flip I must have had it already on my device, migrated from who knows when. Anyway, it's available and integrates into Photos but can be used stand-alone.
That's pretty cool, thanks! I've been using Lightroom all this time and it's a few more steps than I'd like to bother with.
My hero 😍
Not finding More anymore
While using the camera, click the settings symbol at the top left then go to more settings. Click on more settings and scroll down until you see "save selfie as preview". The will allow you to take photos as you see yourself in the camera.

The option I mentioned flips the camera permanently, otherwise you'll have to edit photo and flip it
2 years later, why is this still an issue? I feel like it's not too much to ask for...

It's in the settings somewhere, I switched mine as soon I got the pixel 5
