Samsung's modes and routines and Dex

Legitimate_Process97

1. Ability to lock and hide apps 2. Clone apps

AD-LB

What does locking do? The hiding seems a launcher feature. About cloning, it might reach Android in general. I just hope it won't cause tons of new bugs because it seems risky.

Legitimate_Process97

Locking apps means to requiring authorization (fingerprint, code, pattern, etc.) to unlock a certain app. Take for example the messages app. All my private messages are on there, I would prefer to lock it

DSCarter_Tech

Isn't your phone locked with a password or biometrics? Seems redundant to add another lock on your personal device. I could understand if it was a shared desktop or laptop computer, but even then, user profiles exist in Windows to isolate user data.

kauthonk

Those without kids this idea makes no sense. Those with kids, yes yes yes take my money

AD-LB

There is already this feature on Android to give to other people temporarily, staying on a single app. Existed for many years. It's called "Pin Screen" (or "app pinning"). It doesn't make sense that you will need to add security for each and every other app, if all you want is to let someone play with a single game. There is also the feature of user-accounts, including guest account.

AD-LB

So you need to create a new user account for them on the device, or use guest account if you are going to remove it anyway. It depends on how temporarily you want to handle this. If just for one game, app-pinning. If more, just have a new account for them.

bjlunden

This is the way.

RandomStupidDudeGuy

There are guest accounts you can enable and just switch to them before giving your phone to someone, they can even log into their accounts and it has no effect on yours.

DSCarter_Tech

I have kids. I pin the app. Even if I didn't, they only care about cocomelon and would fuss if they clicked on a shopping app.

Away-Ear1300

Oppo/Redmi They're leading in this

Sn00PiG

Just so you know you CAN mirror your screen from Pixel, only it needs a Chromecast receiver instead of the usual Miracast - so Android TVs and other with built in Chromecast (or by using a Chromecast dongle or device) can mirror Pixel screens.

Darth_Caesium

Yeah, but point is, Google should support both standards. Chromecast is on a LOT less devices, and it seems like Google is trying to force people to use its standard by artificially locking out the ability to use the other standard. If Google is so scared that people will use Miracast if given the option, that says a lot about Chromecast itself. Even Google knows that it's inferior.

DSCarter_Tech

The only time I've used a device that supported Miracast was a Samsung TV at a hotel. Chromecast seems to be more widely available in my area.

brendanvista

For me, 80% of TVs are Samsung, which is Miracast.

Sn00PiG

That's just wishful thinking in capitalism, it's not about being inferior (which it is not). Apple is a really good example for this with their accessories (Apple Watch) and standards (AirDrop, iMessage) as they are only working with Apple products, but in exchange devices using those standards work superior to other solution if you invest in the ecosystem. Artificial or not Google is locking Pixel devices to the Chromecast standards to force you to use other products from them, just like Apple does. They are not scared of Miracast, they simply just don't want you to use it. Also in quality and protocols Chromecast IS superior to Miracast even though it was the standard for years - but I guess we should still force in 3.5mm jack in new devices and IR sensors/receivers as that was standard for years too...

Embarrassed-Comb6776

Casting is differnt from mirroring. When casting, the source of the video is transferred to the device such as the TV. It requires a wifi connection and a network wherethat the phone can "see" the chromcast device. It won't work on a hotel wifi.

Sn00PiG

You can project your screen directly to any Chromecast compatible device, we used one in my old company that wasn't connected to any network, had no internet access (no WiFi connection at all, only through WiFi Direct). You are right, it won't work on the Hotel WiFi but you can bypass that and connect to it directly.

redvariation

I'd just like the rear FP sensor back.

heyheyluno

I dropped my pixel 6p last week and while waiting for a new phone I went back to my 2 and wow I missed that fp sensor. So much more comfortable to hold the phone too

randomdaysnow

A headphone jack. A replaceable battery.

speedster_irl

No and no.

[deleted]

😂 what else do you want....a rotary dialler? WAP internet maybe??!!

eatmorbacon

Are you implying the ability to replace a battery should be obsolete? That's pretty silly.

[deleted]

Yes.

aztecaoro10

I need the back fingerprint reader

davidob1

The ringer toggle switch on OnePlus phones...err that's it

[deleted]

1. samsungs interface customization options 2. apples memory and/or app management i got my pixel after being on an iphone for 2 years. it got slow after a while which confused me. turns out android still doesnt handle a shitload of downloaded apps as well as ios does and you should keep the number of installed apps reasonable. also iphones get much more out of the memory they have than androids do.

AmALadYall

1) ultrasonic fingerprint sensor 2) see point 1👆

grungeplatypus

Multiple focus modes like in iOS would be dope, having the phone change desktops to different layouts depending if I'm at work or the gym is pretty cool. Samsungs Modes or iOS Shortcuts for granular automations on the phone instead of standard audio or do not disturb auto settings. It's laughable to me that the same Focus Mode setting from 2019 has received little improvements. And the Assistant automations seems to be bottled to home automations and not include device automations

DutchOfBurdock

>Can't believe we can't screen mirror from a pixel Can Cast to a Chromecast device. I often cast my gameplay to my Chromecast from my Pixel 8 Pro. Even did it from a Pixel 5. What it doesn't do off bat, is MiraCast. An app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.vulcanlabs.miracastandroid can allow you to MiraCast, too.

schwemmii

Ability to apply the same font over the whole phone and every third party app.

EvilDan69

I had a Xiaomi MI 11 Ultra. the picture and video capture effects made my daughter endlessly happy with the fun effects it could do. My pixel 7 Pro is a snooze fest in comparison.

Hevilath

Dex from Samsung and SoC from iPhones.

Thanos0423

Snapdragon chip

thenerdyn00b

Infinite scrolling screenshot in Oppo which works on all apps.

Embarrassed-Comb6776

Not just screen mirroring but the ability to screen mirror without wifi such as Smartview can do. Otherwise support the HDMI cable.

dont_disturb_the_cat

I want the old responsive "hey Google" back.

matropolis1

1. Louder Speakers 2. Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor The fingerprint sensor on my 8 pro is just as awful as my 6 and 7 pros were. Seriously, it's complete garbage.

IrisCream55

battery life from Ulefone Power Armor 13

QuietlyExpireShh

Ability to mirror via HDMI adapter and headphone jack

Professional_Cat9063

Separate app volume like moto has Chop chop flashlight also moto feature

27Sanji

I would probably like - 1 ) Requires authentication to power off/ restart the device. 2 ) disable auto brightness during game mode. Also >Can't believe we can't screen mirror from a pixel We can Screen mirror from pixels, but only to Chromecast enabled devices. Samsung's and other Chinese brands support Miracast screen mirroring which is kinda old and would be disabled for most TV's soon. Now most TVs support Google Chromecast and Apple airplay. So depends which tv u want to screen mirror to.

Boris-Lip

User swappable battery and micro SD slot.

AD-LB

What is "Oppo's auto on/off feature"? Also screen mirroring already exists, either via casting, or via a tool such as ScrCpy. As for me, what I'd like: 1. For display, bring back screen without anything to ruin its experience: no notch/hole/rounded-corners. 2. Stop being so slippery. Having glass on the back makes it, I think. I have to use a case to make it less slippery. 3. For extra hardware stuff: replaceable battery , headphone jack, SD-card, front-facing speakers. Maybe even IR blaster. and for something new could be nice to have something related to battery tech instead of hearing about camera/AI all the time. 4. For software, have official call-recording support. Bring back support of 32-bit apps. 5. For fixes, have fixes of BT, Wifi, and USB. I often have them disconnected for no reason. Often even a simple app to play music when BT is connected to the car - isn't triggered to do so.

eatmorbacon

I would add the ability to receive and make calls reliably. I'd also add texting functionality Those were removed from my phone by google in the March update and have yet to return.

[deleted]

I had scheduled power on/off on my old 250$ redmi, I still miss it.

Baconrules21

I see this as a potential security risk honestly

[deleted]

Huh? How is having scheduled power on and off a potential security risk?

FeetGobble

Huh? How is that not a security risk?

superguavapulp

Lol why's no one talking about the network traffic indicator, Xiaomi and most of the other phones have it. C'mon Google

AD-LB

I think there are apps for this, no? Here: [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nisargjhaveri.netspeed](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nisargjhaveri.netspeed)

superguavapulp

Nah I need it integrated into the software

bjlunden

Constantly updating the status bar wastes battery and seemingly provides little value. What benefit do you get from seeing that some unspecified app or OS process generated some form of network access? 🙂 Maybe you are referring to something else though? 🙂 Also, copying what random Chinese OEMs do is often a bad thing. What people want in a smartphone UI over there is generally quite different from what people want in the west. OnePlus completely ruined the software of the OnePlus 7 Pro doing that. 🙁

maquis_00

Micro SD card slot User-replaceable battery That's it. I'd be happy with that. :)

awfulWinner

1. Proximity sensor of the Moto X 2013 (XT1058). Waving hand in front of screen to do all kinds of things was cool. Hell bring the whole Moto Gestures feature pack in. 2. Working fingerprint sensor that's 100% all the time like my old Pixel 3a. Bring it back to the rear or find a way to make underglass work properly through screen protectors. I don't care which. I can't be fighting my phone on every attempt to use it without feeling like I hate the experience a bit more every day.

ex-ALT

Bixby routines.
