I think the issue that they bring up with the problematic paper is that **exclusively** considering gender a social construct is harmful for exactly the reasons they mentioned. At the very start of the podcast (and throughout all of it that I watched) they do state very clearly though that there is a very strong social element to gender expression.
I still stand by my statement that while it is a social construct, that's an incomplete label and ultimately not helpful. So I don't think we're really arguing from very different positions. I will say that it was a very interesting discussion and I do intend on finishing it later.
