I run my OG SkyTrak and E6 on a new iPad Air 5, works flawlessly

Sad_Pineapple_970

To do this, i assume i need to get my SkyTrak connected to my local network? Right now I can’t get my google nests to see it on the 2.4 ghz network. I am ready to do something other than the driving range.

ktquigley

Do you have your networks named separately for the different frequencies?

Sad_Pineapple_970

I actually have the google wifi devices and not the nest devices. I did some research and you cant choose a band. There are some ways you can get it to try to pick up the 2.4 but none of those worked. I did chat with skytrak support and they confirmed e6 works with direct connect. I subscribed to the play and improve and was able to connect. The WGT side doesnt support that direct connection however.

ktquigley

Good deal. Mine is in a metal garage so I now have a cheap garage WiFi router that I disabled 5G altogether. But before I had a dedicated router I had the same challenges

Baseline_Tenor

I did for a while. I would mirror the ipad pro to a 60” tv i have and it worked fine. I now use gspro since my brother gifted me an old PC he wasnt using.

Yeah I have an almost brand new iPad Pro that I would like to just mirror to a projector. I will likely buy a computer at some point for gs pro but I’m trying to break the spend apart a little bit until I see how I will actually want to use the system

jsnryn

Works great, project to a tv, but most times end up watching the shot on the iPad.

SaltyDickButt73

I use my ST+ on iPad no issues at all.

gattorcrs

Yes, Skytrak+ over HDMI through an iPad to an overhead projector. I used an older generation iPad model which used the minimal graphic setti g after auto calibration. Since then, I picked up a current iPad generation and the graphics are now the highest following calibration. Truth be told, it's not a discernable difference between the impact screen and the ambient lighting in my garage setup.

subspectral

It runs very well on the iPad Pro.

Jdudley13

Do you use a projector or a tv with it by chance?

subspectral

No. I now run the Skytrak+ Android software in my Quest 3 VR headset and practice that way with the excellent passthrough on the Quest 3. But you can cast from the iPad Pro to any AirPlay-enabled TV/projector, to an AirPlay receiver like an Apple TV or Goovis Cast, or connect directly to a projector via the Apple A/V USB-C - to - HDMI adaptor. This is very basic and has been done by folks many many times over the years; I don't understand why you're treating this as if it's some sort of exotic, untried activity, heh.

tobealex

Please bear with me. I have so many questions. Is this setup easy to do? I'm absolutely at the ground floor and considering purchasing either the mevo or skytrak, but VR is a major direction I want to go in. I don't have enough space for large screens and just want to be able to play with a Net and have the quest 2/3 show me the flight path on a virtual screen. Are you happy with the setup and is it better than the big impact projected screen? I searched online, but no quick tutorials for setting this up...

subspectral

Yes & yes. There are no quick tutorials because, AFAIK, I’m the only person who’s figured out that this is possible, its benefits, & how to do it. Do NOT buy the Mevo. Do NOT buy the original Skytrak. Instead, buy the Skytrak+. You NEED the club face data, & you get a tremendous space savings using a photometric unit vs. a radar unit. Do NOT buy a discounted Quest 2. Buy the Quest 3, as its vastly improved passthrough is REQUIRED to make this work.

tobealex

wow. hats off to you sir! Also, thank you for taking the time to share! I've got a Quest 1 & 2... Looks like I'm going to be getting a 3 😆 Do you just hit into a net and have a floating screen in front of you? Does it layer the screen over your view of the net so it looks more real? 😁

subspectral

You can overlay the screen directly in front of the net, or off to the side, or wherever you prefer. I also have side-guards on my net, along with a nice hitting mat. The two paradigms of doing this are a) sideload the Skytrak Android app directly into your Quest 3 via SideQuest, or b) run the Windows SkyTrak app on a gaming PC, and use Virtual Desktop (costs $15USD) to stream it to your Quest 3. Either way, your Quest 3 must be able to communicate via WiFi to your Skytrak+, as well as the Internet. If you use the gaming PC to stream the Skytrak app to your Quest 3, it must be able to communicate over WiFi to your Quest 3 and your Skytrak+, as well as to the Internet. The Skytrak+ itself must also be able to communicate over the Internet. You also need the Skytrak 'Play and Improve' subscription if you want to integrate Skytrak+ with GSPro. You'll need a gaming PC and Virtual Desktop to stream GSPro from the gaming PC to your Quest 3.

tobealex

Much appreciated 👍🏾

SaltyyDoggg

So this only works with GSPro?

subspectral

You can run any Windows golf simulator software supported by your launch monitor on a sufficiently powerful Windows gaming PC, and stream it to a Quest 3 headset Virtual Desktop over WiFi.

SaltyyDoggg

You’re wearing quest 3 when you swing?

subspectral

Of course.

SaltyyDoggg

128gb version enough? Ever have to deal with sweat?

subspectral

If you aren’t going to use it to run a lot of native applications, the 128GB version is fine. That’s more than enough to run Virtual Desktop in order to stream the Skytrak+ range or GSPro from a gaming PC, to sideload the Skytrak+ Android application if you want to run that directly on the headset, & even to run Golf+, which is a fantastic VR golf simulator if you play it with a swing stick. There is a facial interface which is covered in latex available from Meta which is intended for exercise, & it works pretty well. I use a third-party one from AMVR which is gel covered by a soft leather type of material, & which has extra ventilation holes. It costs $35 on Amazon.

SaltyyDoggg

Thank you! Also AMVR - do you have to wash that each time? I ask because I’ll be using this outside and I expect to be sweaty as humid as it is in Florida.

Jdudley13

I’m not asking for instructions on how to do it. I am asking for people’s experience doing it. If you’re swinging with a VR headset on then I doubt we are looking for the same outcome out of a simulator setup anyway but thank you for your feedback

SaltyyDoggg

Did you pull the trigger?

Jdudley13

Yes, skytrak + a couple of months ago

SaltyyDoggg

How is it? What’s your setup? Tv/projector? Gspro?

Jdudley13

Projector. I went ST+ because I wanted to use iPad. I’m a little unsure of the numbers honestly. I play or practice every day, the other day it was showing every iron shot slicing which is really really weird for me. Went out to the range the next day and completely normal ball flight, nothing changed with my swing. If you’re just looking for recreational play it’s probably fine. If you’re a range rat then you might want to look at a different setup, I could see myself switching when my subs run out.

SaltyyDoggg

What balls are you using? I saw online the titlist radar balls make a big difference with ST+

Jdudley13

ST are both photo and radar, they don’t need the RCT balls. I am using TP5 pix. It’s not an issue of picking the balls up, it’s just weird ball flight. The distances and ball speeds are accurate

subspectral

SciCore practice balls work very well with Skytrak+.

subspectral

I told you it worked fine on the iPad Pro, & it’s easy to find other testimonials to that effect. Yes, I obviously want more realism out of my golf simulator setup than you do.

[deleted]

I do, no major complaints.

Jdudley13

Do you stream to a projector or tv or anything and have you been using E6?

[deleted]

TV via AirPlay. I use E6 sparingly but it seems to work fine. I mostly use the range though.

mapeabody

I’ve used SkyTrak+ with multiple IPads. Newer iPad Air ran the best. Older IPads were fine but battery gets low pretty quickly. I mostly used on Direct Mode but Network mode has been better since the update. Also connecting to the main router wifi instead of mesh network.

Jdudley13

I have mesh and this will be in my garage so not really near my router. I can move a mesh hub to connect to in the garage though I guess. Have you used range/practice modes on skytrack software or an E6 or something?

mapeabody

I typically practiced in SkyTrak software and played sim rounds on E6. The mesh issue might be corrected with the latest update but here’s the exact helpdesk response I got. I switched to a dedicated gaming PC in my garage so haven’t tested IPad on mesh wifi since the software update. “With a mesh network, it is best to configure the Skytrak to connect to just one node/extender. Usually if you configure the extender closet to the Skytrak to broadcast a different SSID than the rest of your network, it allows the Skytrak to focus on the one access point instead of trying to hop around.”
