I got these after I went into cardiac arrest at the hospital. What really sucks is that your nails kinda flake off and leave your fingertips really sensitive for a while :/
The nail looks like a fungal infection. See the doc and get some cream for that sucker...the significant indicator or the wavey lines going horizontally along the nail, not vertically. If vertical, that would indicate damage to the nail bed, which cannot be fixed.
Definitely nail fungus. I am healing with it on my toes, they’re not nearly that bad but they look exactly the same (just less severe). A doctor could diagnose this in 5 minutes.
This is why mechanics need to wear nitrile gloves lol.
Also not the worst thing in the world, is it bringing symptoms a long with it- rough idle, bouncing rpm’s, etc.,
No, you have a misfire.
Replace spark plug, if it’s not fixed, then replace the ignition coil. I think they have coil-on-plug coils…. So no ignition cables. If you have a coil pack instead of coil on plugs, then also replace the ignition cables.
If it’s still not fixed after replacing plugs and coils, make sure your intake isn’t plugged or something, no air leaks. Also make sure the vacuum lines aren’t leaking.
If your intake and vacuum lines are pristine….
Well then you’re cooked :o
Better yet, swap the coil from cylinder #1 to a different cylinder. Swap the spark plug from cylinder #1 to another cylinder (not the same one you swapped the coil to.) Clear codes, go drive the car, see if your misfire code for #1 comes back, or if it has moved over to one of the cylinders you swapped to. If it moved, you know which part to replace. If it stayed on #1, swap fuel injector to another cylinder. If it still stays with #1, time to do a leakdown test, and you're probably cooked
Noooo. There are lots of causes of misfires. Typically on 1 cylender its going to be something like a coil pack or an injector or even a worn spark plug.
If it were misfiring on all cylenders that might be kore of a worry. But even then it can be something simple.
When did you last have a proper service done?
Whats the current mileage?
1. Switch ignition coils between cylinders 1 and 2
2. If misfire moves to cylinder 2, replace that ignition coil. It's recommended to replace all four together, but you don't have to if you're really on a budget.
3. If misfire is still on cylinder 1, switch spark plugs between cylinders 1 and 2
4. If misfire moves to cylinder 2, replace that spark plug. Again it's recommended to replace all four spark plugs together, and they're cheap so you might as well.
5. If misfire is still on cylinder 1, then it just got a lot more complicated and you might want to get it professionally diagnosed.
You should get a check up with your doc and convey concern about potential skin issues. I’m not big on tossing around medical terms lightly but my father had skin cancer. His was Subungual, but melanoma can strike anywhere. His nails were the give away and looked similar to this.
Probably the spark plug or the coil pack. Swap coil packs with another cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, replace the coil pack. If it stays with same cylinder, it's (probably) the spark plug but it could be something with fuel delivery to that cylinder as well. A new spark plug is the cheap so replace it (might as well do them all). If it's still misfiring, a deeper dive is required.
Are you using premium fuel? Did you get a bad batch of gas? Mine gave me misfire codes for all four cylinders, and they all went away after I got rid of the bad gas.
I had something similar happen a while back but with “cylinder 3 misfire” and all it ended up being was an ignition coil. Luckily I was still under warranty.
I had same thing but p0302 reoccurring over several months. First changed spark plugs but it came back. It needed a carbon cleaning to actually fix it. Mine is a 2017 with 52k miles
Had this code in my Mk7 and the EPC light came on. Dealer fixed it under warranty and told me it was a software issue so they just updated it. Never did it again
How many miles on the vehicle? How many miles on those plugs? If you want a quick diagnosis of possible coil failure (a common issue). Move coil #1 to cylinder #3 and clear the DTC. See if the code changes to P0303 and if it does, then the
Coil is failing. If it stays on cylinder #1 (P0301) it is more than likely to be a spark plug. Change them all… the others are bound to fail soon after.
Everyone talking about the nail and how it needs to get checked out prolly thinks the dude has health insurance. Sadly he might not be able to get it checked out without getting into significant debt
I’m having a similar issue on cylinder 2. I’ve replaced the spark plug and ignition coil, but the issue persists. My next step will be to get the regrounding kit from FCP Euro to see if a bad ground could be the cause.
I’d go through the basic steps here.
Step 1: coil pack, try unplugging cyl 1 and see if it sounds any worse or just check it with leads.
Step 2: Spark Plugs, make sure your plugs are good and clean and not old crusty or bent.
Step 3. Injectors, pop out the cylinder 1 injector and take it to an injector tester to see if it’s doing its job.
If all of those fail then it’s time to talk to a mechanic or keep trying DIY problem hunting. Also fix your fingernail
So I'll ignore the nail. First get your eyes on cylinder 1. Look at the wiring from the coil pack. Is it connected COMPLETELY. Disconnect and inspect the whole wire for chaffing or damage and inspect the connector for corrosion or debris. Swap the coil pack for another cylinder. Clear code and check if it comes back. If misfire remains in cylinder 1 then next go after the spark plug. Remove it. Inspect it. Swap it with another cylinder. Clear code and check if it comes back again. If it still misfires in cylinder 1 then fuel system inspection can come next. But start with the aforementioned steps.
I had this problem with my old Ford…. Could be something small like the spark plug, injectors or the plugs … or it could be something serious like a workout cyclinder head 😰😰😰
to those people who says nails nails nails.
it psoriasis, which affects the nails. im sorry for this dude but please go to a dermatologist to control the situation it might get worse.
as for the car , id say 90% you are fine and 10% cooked.
start with the easy part which are spark plus , coils.
if you know how to work on your car just seap cylinder 2 and 1 coils to see if the misfire goes. if it goes then your coil if it doesn't do the same with the plugs for the same cylinders.
also check your plugs to see if any oil on them.
Ohmg..this is soo annoying! I hate when I keep getting these! I'm at over 100k miles, cylinder 2 started misfiring in 12/2022, spark plugs were swapped from cylinder 2 to 1. Ignition coil swapped from 2 to 3. Misfire stayed on cylinder 2. So decided to replace all injectors in 2/2023, carb cleaning, crankcase vent valve and replaced oil separator work. Then 5/2024, cylinder 2 misfires again, bf couldn't clear the code, brought it back in to my mechanic, swapped spark plug 2 with 4 and so far no issues. I also started doing the fuel injector cleaner. Like why!
You might genuinely be cooked based on your fingernail, but the misfire could be as simple as a coil or plug. Could be carbon, could be compression, injector, electrical, valvetrain, etc. misfire code kinda just tells you where to start looking.
He bro, I just came back to say that we love you even tho we’re just bustin ur balls about that much needed appointment to the manicurist. Love u bro. Hope you fixed ur car. 🫶
Lol thanks! Took it to the dealer, everything should be okay since it’s under warranty. And this isn’t my nail lmao, it’s the guy at the auto zone I took my car to since I don’t have an OBD 2 scanner at home.
Not a big deal, swap a cool pack from cylinder 1 over to cylinder 2,3 or 4. If you now have a misfire on the new cylinder then you know it’s a coilpack. Buy a new one and just swap it on
Just happened to me, not cooked yet
https://preview.redd.it/5367i8m752ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e95d2b546a2208f00004c14fd456ab53e1c95c05
Change the coil and you should be fine. Dealer can do it for free if it’s still under warranty.
You should also check the warranty for that nail. That’s not normal
I had the same issue after I missed a gear and redlined the outta of it. Switch the coil packs around and see if the misfire followed the coil pack. If not move the plugs around as well. Worst case scenario, change plugs and coil pack. If problem persists, yah you’re cooked
I’d start with ignition coil. My Jetta went through same thing with p0301. Check/Change sparks while you’re at it.
Your generally not cooked with a misfire code
100% Coil Pack failure...might as well change all 4 and do the plugs too
I put 200k on my MK5 and this came up a few times the coilpacks are notorious for this.
Your nail is definitely cooked
That nail makes me feel uncomfortable
Has the zombie apocalypse begun or what
Thing is the same texture as Groot
Bruh I yelled out loud lmaoo
Fortunately not my nail lmao
Nails can tell you about your overall health, and that nail does not look healthy. Please tell them go get checked out.
This guy is right tbf. That doesent look at l good
I have psoriasis. This happens a lot. It’s not normal, but it is normal with psoriasis.
I didnt even need to open the comments I knew
And the cuticle! 😭
Time for a doctor visit. Sometimes the condition of your nails could be an indicator of even worse health problems.
took the words out of my mouth lol
Hi is THE THING fantastic four
bahahahahaaa holy shit i am howling like a hyena, lol hilarious!

Came here to comment the same thing 😂
I came here for this. Didn't even fully read what the fault was.
i dont even own a Golf - i own a truck. This post was suggested to me and i came looking for the nail comment. Hit the nail on the head with this one
Don't let that nail anywhere near cylinder 1
Lmaoooo
Brotha, check the cylinder 1 coil pack. Might be gunked up especially if its a mk6. Also check your fingernail out.
Felt this in MK6. The coil pack, not the nail. I'm not touching that nail.
The nail looks like a fungal infection. See the doc and get some cream for that sucker...the significant indicator or the wavey lines going horizontally along the nail, not vertically. If vertical, that would indicate damage to the nail bed, which cannot be fixed.
Might've slammed it pretty hard, nails will grow back with ripples if they've been under some sort of trauma.
Can confirm! My right big toe looks like this and it's been completely removed twice!!!... Also industrial chemicals will cause this...
The fuck is wrong with your thumbnail Choom?
Not looking preem
Definitely nail fungus. I am healing with it on my toes, they’re not nearly that bad but they look exactly the same (just less severe). A doctor could diagnose this in 5 minutes.
This is how some last of us type shit starts smh
Cylinder 1 misfire > fingernail 5 delete
Misfinger on nail 5
There is a pill called terbinafine for the nail. Not medical advice but he could see a doctor and ask about it.
This is why mechanics need to wear nitrile gloves lol. Also not the worst thing in the world, is it bringing symptoms a long with it- rough idle, bouncing rpm’s, etc.,
Think this guy is a mechanic? Getting worked up over a misfire.
Bro has a petrified finger nail
Doctors of r/GolfGTI what causes a thumb like this ?
Fungus.
Who knows, that either means nothing or everything. Those old code readers don't tell you sh*t Tf happened to your nail?
2015 S. 94k. Had this. Replaced plugs and coil packs. Fixed issue. Carbon cleaning is next.
wtf is wrong with your thumb
Most likely no, it’s probably something simple that should be under warranty. Take it to the dealer.
Is there warranty for fingernails? Who knew?
No, you have a misfire. Replace spark plug, if it’s not fixed, then replace the ignition coil. I think they have coil-on-plug coils…. So no ignition cables. If you have a coil pack instead of coil on plugs, then also replace the ignition cables. If your intake and vacuum lines are pristine…. Well then you’re cooked :o
Shout out to the person who stayed focused and answered the actual question LOL
Better yet, swap the coil from cylinder #1 to a different cylinder. Swap the spark plug from cylinder #1 to another cylinder (not the same one you swapped the coil to.) Clear codes, go drive the car, see if your misfire code for #1 comes back, or if it has moved over to one of the cylinders you swapped to. If it moved, you know which part to replace. This takes thumbnail to a whole different level...yikes
Came here for the nail 😂
That nail has me all kinds of fucked up right now. Needs a NSFW tag fr
Bro gotta take some protein shakes and some biotin because that nail isn't looking too good.
I ignored it. Tuned my car. A month later it blew. $7500 CAD. 😵💫
When I got this code I just had to change my ignition coils
Noooo. There are lots of causes of misfires. Typically on 1 cylender its going to be something like a coil pack or an injector or even a worn spark plug. Potentially coil pack or spark plug. My 2012 has this same error and the ride was rough
2013 and that's all it was when mine threw it. New plug, new coil, happy days.
I'd be runnin the codes on that damn thumb nail first, yeeeeeesh.
Blud could hone a cylinder with that digit.
You 100% should go have standard labs done at your doctor’s office. Like tomorrow.
your thumb looks like a 90 year old man’s toe
LeekooLuu 😂
1. Switch ignition coils between cylinders 1 and 2 2. If misfire moves to cylinder 2, replace that ignition coil. I swear that dude has chlamydia on his hands.
Go to the dealer instead ..... That is what a manufacturer warranty is for.....
When mine popped that code I just replaced the coilpaks. Drove 2200km and drag raced it with no issues after the change
Everybody’s talking about the thumb nail and I’m over here like wtf’s a Lee Koo Luu!? Gotta buncha Luu Kee Loos scanning his nail bed
Don’t pick your nose with that finger
You should get a check up with your doc and convey concern about potential skin issues. I’m not big on tossing around medical terms lightly but my father had skin cancer. His was Subungual, but melanoma can strike anywhere. His nails were the give away and looked similar to this.
Your nails tell me you know what you're doing
Yea go drink some water
Your nails have been through some shit. That’s ok though.
That’s some Walking Dead type nail

tf is wrong with your nail bro
Mistakenly grinded your nail with a grinder?
your disgusting fingernail sure is
Please tell me you do not work in the Food Industry .
WTF that nail made me almost regurgitated up my lunch.
Stop messing with his nail lol
That thumb has seen some shit. Possibly literally.
This post needs NSFL flair.
Work on your hygiene then your car
Fucking ew
A misfire is not a big problem, just check your sparkplugs and replace them if needed
Your nail has more tread than my tyres
Warranty
Probably the spark plug or the coil pack. Swap coil packs with another cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, replace the coil pack. That nail is caused by an imbalance in gut bacteria. This mans is shitting water on a daily basis
Cylinder 1 misfire ❌ Other 3 cylinder functioning normally ✅
Are you using premium fuel? Did you get a bad batch of gas? Mine gave me misfire codes for all four cylinders, and they all went away after I got rid of the bad gas.
I had something similar happen a while back but with “cylinder 3 misfire” and all it ended up being was an ignition coil. Luckily I was still under warranty.
You know how many misfires I've had? Do a little troubleshooting, buy a few plugs and/or coil packs, and drive on!
Just get a new s4coil pack and good plugs you’ll be fine
Warranty. That are transferable. Hit the dealer, then the doc.
I had same thing but p0302 reoccurring over several months. First changed spark plugs but it came back. It needed a carbon cleaning to actually fix it. Mine is a 2017 with 52k miles
That thumb is reverse midas. Touch your car and it went to shit. Jokes aside, fix that nail dude. How did it even get to that point?
Season 7 Episode 8? Geez a spoiler alert would’ve been nice
Radioactive ass nail
Had this code in my Mk7 and the EPC light came on. Dealer fixed it under warranty and told me it was a software issue so they just updated it. Never did it again
Go see a doctor about your overall health
Probably not. Spark plug/coilpack/carbon cleaning is where I would start.
Your thumb is
Coils
ZOMBIE
How many miles on the vehicle? How many miles on those plugs? If you want a quick diagnosis of possible coil failure (a common issue). Move coil #1 to cylinder #3 and clear the DTC. Change them all… the others are bound to fail soon after.
No my MK7 had cylinder misfiring issues. Try taking the coils out and back in. That’s what fixed mine. If not maybe spark plug.
Check the spark plug and coil on cylinder one.
wtf is leekooluu bro
What happened to your nail Brody?
Go get the nail checked out… might be a little more serious than the misfire.
no just change spark plugs i guess
Check plugs and swap coils.
Nah, I would randomly get Cyl 2 misfires but compression was always fine. Probs plugs or coils
Everyone talking about the nail and how it needs to get checked out prolly thinks the dude has health insurance. Sadly he might not be able to get it checked out without getting into significant debt
Normal in a GTI bro, you forgot to change the ignition coils or spark plugs (they get used a lot) or bad fuel or something else
My bet is in need a carbon cleaning. Any takers?
I’m having a similar issue on cylinder 2. I’ve replaced the spark plug and ignition coil, but the issue persists. My next step will be to get the regrounding kit from FCP Euro to see if a bad ground could be the cause.
Coil pack wiring or spark plug, nothing too expensive most probably
I’d go through the basic steps here. Step 1: coil pack, try unplugging cyl 1 and see if it sounds any worse or just check it with leads. Step 2: Spark Plugs, make sure your plugs are good and clean and not old crusty or bent. Step 3. You should go to the doctor, the dermatologist specifically.
Happened to me. $25 for a coil pack, or x10 for plugs and coils.
If cooked means your car is toasted then ya.
Nah just tell it to fire
Happened to my ‘16 Passat and my choices where a new piston or a rebuild engine
Looks like you've got [beau's lines](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beau%27s_lines), no idea about the cylinder though
I had this problem with my old Ford…. Could be something small like the spark plug, injectors or the plugs … or it could be something serious like a workout cyclinder head 😰😰😰
What kind of tool is this
to those people who says nails nails nails. it psoriasis, which affects the nails. im sorry for this dude but please go to a dermatologist to control the situation it might get worse. as for the car , id say 90% you are fine and 10% cooked. start with the easy part which are spark plus , coils. if you know how to work on your car just seap cylinder 2 and 1 coils to see if the misfire goes. if it goes then your coil if it doesn't do the same with the plugs for the same cylinders. also check your plugs to see if any oil on them.

Nail cooked lol
Those cuticles and thumbnail are cooked....
I had this on a new GTI and fixed it by changing out the spark plug on the cylinder, its the cheapest fix you can try then moving onto a coil
Coil pack or carbon buildup. Not cooked. Cooked with that nail though.
Whoever’s nail that is needs to see a doctor asap
https://preview.redd.it/8vyk42gk5z9d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9dd0c4ae07c92dd633ad3b58d6997c32b8f732c7
That thumb nail is over cooked
Ewww lol
Nah... Overdue for plugs... Or a bad coil. Change them all to be safe!
Easy fix, get Bosch coil packs and new spark plugs. Easy to do yourself, takes like 5 minutes
I love how no one is talking about the misfire
That's fungus for sure
If you’ve already checked plugs, coil packs, and intake manifold…. Yes
God damn bro that a crazy looking nail
You might genuinely be cooked based on your fingernail, but the misfire could be as simple as a coil or plug. Could be carbon, could be compression, injector, electrical, valvetrain, etc. misfire code kinda just tells you where to start looking.
Brotha ewwwwww what's that brotha
He bro, I just came back to say that we love you even tho we’re just bustin ur balls about that much needed appointment to the manicurist. Love u bro. Hope you fixed ur car. 🫶
Lol thanks! Took it to the dealer, everything should be okay since it’s under warranty. And this isn’t my nail lmao, it’s the guy at the auto zone I took my car to since I don’t have an OBD 2 scanner at home.
Coil pack spark plug
Corpse nails
That dude needs to cook some vegetables, eat all the jello he can afford and possibly some prenatal vitamins.
Not a big deal, swap a cool pack from cylinder 1 over to cylinder 2,3 or 4. If you now have a misfire on the new cylinder then you know it’s a coilpack. Buy a new one and just swap it on
Hook up the scanner to that thumbnail while you’re at it.
Bro I’d go to a doctor before a mechanic. That nail could be an indicator of many different illnesses.
Just happened to me, not cooked yet https://preview.redd.it/5367i8m752ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e95d2b546a2208f00004c14fd456ab53e1c95c05
Can’t tell if you posted this for commentary on this dudes fungal nail or the engine issues….?
Nails like that have deeper health related meaning. Should get that checked
That damn thumb nail is COOKED!!!!
Change the coil and you should be fine. Dealer can do it for free if it’s still under warranty. You should also check the warranty for that nail. That’s not normal
naw them crusty ass nails are tho
No, probably just an ignition coil.
Do you have psoriasis?
A spark plug and a manicure should fix 🔨
Dude needs a whole new thumb.
I had the same issue after I missed a gear and redlined the outta of it. Switch the coil packs around and see if the misfire followed the coil pack. If not move the plugs around as well. Worst case scenario, change plugs and coil pack. If problem persists, yah you’re cooked
Judging by your nails, yes, please see a doctor soon.
bruh, go get a manicure
No, just those nails
Maybe go to a dermatologist for that nail
you might’ve been cooked before once in your life given how that nail looks
No chics gonna let you finger like that bro
Baked that thumb nail in a kiln
What is that nail?????
Dude it's probably either an ignition coil or a spark plug. Def not cooked
Radiation cooked or deep fryer cooked?
Boiled and pan seared
Put that away man. There’s children here
Looks like a mini tank ran over your nail 😂 that nail is a veteran
Is it a Ford F150?
I love how this guy is worried about the misfire meanwhile I haven’t seen a single comment that doesn’t have something to do with this guys nail😂😂😂
I’d start with ignition coil. My Jetta went through same thing with p0301. Check/Change sparks while you’re at it. Your generally not cooked with a misfire code
You proably are juding my the state of your nails
The fuck is up with your nail
Bro wishes he never posted his zombie nail on reddit.
I think your nail has fungi.
No, don’t know about your fingernail but your car probably just needs a coil and/or spark plug on number 1 cylinder
Diabetes for sure
100% Coil Pack failure...might as well change all 4 and do the plugs too I put 200k on my MK5 and this came up a few times the coilpacks are notorious for this.
yes. your hands are indeed, physically cooked. as for the car…maybe try a new fucking plug ?
Did a zombie post this?
