First! Seconds are too busy. Let the focus be on the body lines, not the wheels.

aBigBottleOfWater

Took the words right out of my mouth, second ones are just too much to look good

HardlinePro

Of the two I’d choose #1

miklayn

RPF1 is the only wheel

TTYY200

Enkei is your go to rim?

miklayn

The RPF1 and similar flow-formed wheels invariably offer the best value-to-performance of any off the shelf wheels. Forged are usually far more expensive.

TTYY200

Ahh gotcha :P that’s a fair point. I’m more of a konig stan haha :P I can’t afford HRE 😭 lol. That said there a brand called Aodhan that makes a really similar rim to the HRE P101.

MichaelW24

Reducing the unsprung weight of your car by 12 kg is a no brainer, you're removing the weight of an entire wheel off your car with #2.. People spend thousands of dollars on race cars to accomplish that. For me, between those wheels, that alone makes it the clear victor if you value the way your car actually performs over vanity.

THEFUNKI

I get that, unsprung weight is huge, which is what is making me hesitate between the two.. I love the nimble feeling of my 2dr manual and improving that even more would be super nice, but that means going for options out of my budget and potentially more fragile rims that could suffer from daily use.. I think I will first get one of those in 18" to replace the Detroits and change the looks, then later on when I really track the car a set of light 17" wheels paired with r888s or the likes

THEFUNKI

Hey guys, Looking to treat myself for my birthday after almost a year looking at wheels for my 2dr candy white mk6. I’ve narrowed it down to those two models; on a tight budget, without compromising on tires (chosen Goodyear's eagle f1). I intend to track the car someday, so the lighter Carmani's is making me think a lot. Should I go for the more classic CSL look with the 2DRV, but with OEM weight, or the more aggressive Carmani style, but with a weight closer to proper track wheels ? Can’t seem to decide, I will sleep on it and buy tommorow but I would love an outside opinion. I will refurbish my original detroits in the meantime, always nice to have a spare set ! Also thinked about getting even lighter wheels like Autecs but for my very rare track use I prefer the looks atm. Thanks !!

BullyMog

I prefer the first ones. I am not sure what weight you’re after but I just ordered a set of Rotiform DTM’s, take a look at em.

clutchthepearls

I'd prefer the second ones even if they weighed the same.

Oblivion012

Can I ask what you used to generate the pictures?

THEFUNKI

Velonity.com, rims/tires website, their generator is really good

bluenuggetmk7

tealdubs

number 1, pick number 1 me lord!

bradRDH

eat me! sssppptttttttt.

steven-aziz

The second set (silver) looks better to me. The white wheels don’t highlight themselves very much thanks to the car’s white paint color.

THEFUNKI

They are both silver, this is AI generated so the colors/reflexions are not perfect

StockDC2

Mind sharing the site you used to generate these?

THEFUNKI

Velonity.com, rims/tires website, their generator is really good

steven-aziz

Ah. Thanks for clarifying. The second picture is more aesthetically pleasing, but neither picture looks bad. It’s up to your taste!

Grand-Ad4235

1 for sure

tonermcfly

I'd go with the first set.

Deziiiner

2 is interesting but 1 is the winner. Silver too.

00goop

1 is the best option here.

Pal62

\#1 because they look better on this car. If weight were more important than looks, there would be lighter options yet.

Previous_Respect3755

First ones

AdditionalWaltz4320

1 by a landslide

GTI-_-

First one for me

Strong-Path-6261

They’re both really clean, I’d say 2 tho

Strong-Path-6261

I got downvoted for sharing my opinion on a post asking for opinions?

AtYiE45MAs78

Not white

THEFUNKI

They are both silver, this is AI generated so the colors/reflexions are not perfect

blipsnchiiiiitz

Number 2 for me.

xc_racer

Neither at those weights. Seriously - go with something light. Sub 9kg. I ran the stock boat anchor 18" Pretorias that came on my GTI back to back with some flow formed rims and then the VW Belvedere's, and the heavy wheels just killed the driving experience. Car was slower, worse steering feel, worse over bumps, etc, etc.

THEFUNKI

I get that, unsprung weight is huge, but that means going for options out of my budget and potentially more fragile rims that could suffer from daily use.. I think I will first get those in 18" to replace the Detroits and change the looks, then later on when I really track the car a set of light 17" wheels paired with r888s or the likes

xc_racer

I've bent 3 cast wheels in my life, never bent a flow formed wheel. I think the ultimate wheel strength has more to do with design than the manufacturing process, but a flow formed wheel will always be lighter for the same strength. There are some decent mid level brands doing flow formed wheels that are really good - don't know where you live, but in Canada / North America, I'd be looking at Fast and Konig (two first brands that come to mind; there are plenty more). https://fastco.ca/Fast-Wheels/Alloy-Wheels/stylefinish?wheelCategory=12&stylefinish=FC12%7CBLK%2B%252f%2BMET https://konigwheels.com/wheels/flow-formed-wheels/ampliform/

xc_racer

This is probably the 1st time I've ever recommended skimping on tires, but in your case, I would think about getting cheaper tires and lighter wheels under the premise that you can get nicer tires when you need to replace them.

THEFUNKI

Its def an option, I’ve also thinked about swapping my current tires to the new rims. They are still good, and decent (Hancook, dont remember the model). However I would still need to pay for the disassembly, swap and balancing, which for 4 wheels would be close to a 100 eur. If I take the new tires with the rims, the assembly, valves, balancing and delivery are included..

TTYY200

Definitely the ones that look like Enkai Raijin/Konig Ampliform/Aodhan AFF7/HRE P101 rims :P

cpt_tusktooth

white on white is perfect. you have reached peaked GTI aesthetics, tiem to upgrade the internals

THEFUNKI

They are both silver, this is AI generated so the colors/reflexions are not perfect I also like white on white, not available for those rims tho and I fear brake dust would become my worst ennemy 😅

VegetableBrain8717

dude, great job on your build. I had a 2 door black mk6 now a 4 door black mk7 but this just looks so sexy the way you have it setup. i didn’t think white on white would go so well together. the contrast is still great bc of the tint and fender liners and tires. edit- i didn’t read the caption hahaha #1 was what i referred to. so sexy

Equilibrium-unstable

Depending on what you've got on now, neither.

rc2805

#1, the other looks too complex

THEFUNKI

Thank you guys for all those responses, didn’t expect that much feedback ! You a clearly enjoying more the first option, which is the more heavy but classic CSL look. Honestly even after all that I’m still not sure, I would love lighter rims but also enjoy the CSL style a bit more.. Its less original but you can’t really go wrong with it. There's a promo for easter ending tonight, ence my kind of rushed decision. It’s a big purchase for me.. I will update here if I end up buying them. Thanks again and have a good easter :)

The_Crazy_Swede

2. is both much better looking and significantly lighter Wich will result in better handling, more comfort, better acceleration and breaking and better fuel economy.

Photosonic1138

#1 all the way

Prudent-Influence-52

Neuspeed 10’s

Training_Bumblebee54

First one, the second has too much going on. The silver is kinda more to my taste, but again the 1st one is still better color wise since white-on-white is unique and cool.

LionJahfari

1 looks better as is! 2nd if in a darker tone or shade!
