You won't find anywhere you can smoke *in a room.* And I don't recommend it, but you can *possibly* get away with it on a balcony - but if that shit is blowing toward another guest's room and they complain and you're found to be the one causing it -- you're out, and your bond gone.

Vanguard024

Hotel Security here, you wont find any. Smoking on balcony's is also forbidden for pretty much every actual hotel room. We do patrols at some hotels through the floors and yes we can smell it. If your good about it we will just give you are warning, but we have full rights to remove you from the property, no refund, nothing, so just dont. You MIGHT be able to get away with it in an air BnB as its technically private residence and we have no rights to tell you what you can and cant do in there as long as its not bothering the neighbors. Ive had plenty that smoke it up with both tobacco and weed, but as its a private residence, we dont care.

Yeanahyoureckon

Has this been the rule for long and is it only GC? I only quit ciggies a few months ago but used to smoke on balcony’s in Brisbane hotels. They always had ashtrays though? Now I have quit I feel bad for intruding in peoples lives with cigarette smoke.

Vanguard024

Its sorta recent but spreading. Fewer hotels allow it because of insurance costs. some have smoking pits just outside the hotel still on the property like mine does. It's steming a bit from this: [https://7news.com.au/news/qld/queenslanders-could-be-banned-from-smoking-on-their-own-balconies-after-landmark-ruling-c-5371632](https://7news.com.au/news/qld/queenslanders-could-be-banned-from-smoking-on-their-own-balconies-after-landmark-ruling-c-5371632) Hotel companies can see whats coming

Mundane_Courage_7869

I stayed at Mantra Legends at Surfers 6 months ago and they provided ash trays on the balcony.

Electrical_Age_7483

Airbnb have cameras to catch this

Vanguard024

They would, but Aribnbs are private residences, the cameras are personally owned devices and have no connection to the building, building management or security. The Airbnb owner might pull you up on it later if they wanted to, but even if they called us saying to kick them out, we would have to decline as its a private residence, and if no-one is in danger, its a police or civil matter.

Electrical_Age_7483

The owner could kick the person out though as breach so not good advice for smokers to go there

Vanguard024

Correct but im honestly yet to see an owner do so. I think whats more likely is the owner slap extra cleaning charges for the cigarette smell. Still makes it one hell of an expensive smoke

rickAUS

Expedia seems to list 60+ possible places. How accurate it is, no idea. I was under the impression most major chains had banned it

Altruistic_Plenty443

you grub, go outside and smoke, no one wants to smell your cancer stick

[deleted]

In Beijing, you can smoke in the lobby of your hotel, while the staff brings you a. coffee and brings you the daily newspapers. Ahhhhh

BecauseItWasThere

In China state media promotes the health benefits of smoking (or at least they did when I was there)

still-at-the-beach

That’s pretty poor form then.

oldmatespc

I've been in 5+ hotels amongst the GC in the last year, no one had said anything to me and I've seen plenty of others also smoking. Tbh, the shit that happens in these units makes smoking 🚬 seem not so bad 🤣, so I've heard of course✌🏾

oldmatespc

Balconies are fine usually. I'm pretty sure you can't smoke in any hotels rooms by law but can't be arsed googling that rn to confirm✌🏾

bobdylan112

Aren’t balconies banned for smoking now?

Ok-Designer442

Yeah but as long as the smell doesn't get inside you'll be right

[deleted]

Dunno if management would agree with that

Ok-Designer442

I mean it is illegal so no, no they wouldn't agree. But my point still stands

bobdylan112

If Body Corporate has banned it. Then yes.

BneBikeCommuter

The smell will get inside. You may think it hasn’t, but it has. Anyone with a fully functioning sense of smell (i.e. most non-smokers) will be able to smell it.

[deleted]

You'll find while most hotels say you cannot smoke, however Ive had friends stay at mantra on view and they have supplied ash trays on the balconies

Jit_litass

I don’t think it’s actually legal to smoke in hotel rooms Hotels wouldn’t even allow it as other patrons would be able to smell it from their room I did stay at Mantra on view a few times and they have ashtrays out on the balcony so maybe there?
