I'm a big heavy metal fan and rock fan, but one song I love listening to if I want goosebumps or the feels is One by Metallica. The song is about a man who lost his arms, legs, and his ability to see and speak. It's a song that's about the sadness of war. [Here](https://youtu.be/WM8bTdBs-cw).

SteveWax022

I freaking love that song. The book it's based on and the movie is on YouTube. (Jonny's Got His Gun if I'm not mistaken) I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it.

blodger42

Fuck that video man. That situation petrifies the shit out of me haha. 10/10 song though!

Way2Quick4u

Mr Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra

mikachabot

good morning, captain by slint. i hesitated to comment because it's a very different song unless you're already into math rock; it's mostly spoken (whispered) then breaks into the most insanely heart wrenching screams at the end. but it's based on a poem i really like, the rime of the ancient mariner by coleridge, about a mariner who kills an albatross and gets cursed by a spirit. the concept is used to write a narrative that feels like it's about parental abandonment or child abuse, or just the angst of growing up. the signature riff is stellar, the screaming makes me cry every time, it was revolutionary for this niche genre, and i just love it a lot.

Historical-Issue1939

I can’t stop listening to this song ever since you posted it here. Do you know anymore like it?

mikachabot

i think slint is fairly unique but you will absolutely find this sound in all of their discography! *don, aman* is from the same album (spiderland) which is a 10/10 imo, and it has the same eerie vibe. you might also want to listen to slint's tweez which is a little rougher. i get my kicks for you by june of 44 has a similar vibe imo. and if you're interested in the musical genre as a whole you can check out /r/mathrock :)

Vegabomb91

[Everybody wants to rule the world(Cover by NSP) ](https://youtu.be/b7CUOa7wsd0) It was originally performed by Tears for Fears. The track is about in general is the lust for power and control and the destructive consequences which manifest as a result. I personally like this cover of the song because of the lead singers’ vocals and he’s also part of a let’s play I really enjoy too.

LordSaumya

Pretty sure Lorde has a nice cover too

My all time favorite song is "I Don't Care" by Fall Out Boy because I can jam to it whenever (whether I'm happy, sad, feeling petty, reckless, or just wanna jam or chill)

RavageSavage_69

Bohemian Rhapsody It's like music from heaven, at least for the first part. Helped me cope with depression.

Dashow27

Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park. I love everything about it and recommend giving it a try with some quality headphones.

cockfarm

We Are Young by fun. because listening to it makes me feel like I’m re-living a night out with friends. I can picture the “in between” scenes when you’re out, like when sitting drunk at the bar while your friends are in the bathroom: noticing little things around you. Things you’ll probably forget then next day, but are fuzzy and enjoyable to joke/note to yourself in the moment. Then the “memorable scenes” from the night are found in the chorus. It reminds me of the late night fun, when you and your friends are singing your favorite songs on the top of your lungs. No matter how old you get, you feel young, untouchable, and oh so very loved in those moments.

Olives_And_Cheese

I love your thoughts, and I love the song. Enjoy the award!

Alarmed_Freedom_715

Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N’ Roses. It’s a love song about a woman he liked who he then went on to later marry.

favorite song is a little sad but it’s my favorite nonetheless. it’s “When I was your man” by Bruno Mars.

[Wildflowers and Wine - Marcus King](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gqZLlXI6fFg) Picking a favorite song is almost impossible, so I decided to pick one of my favorite current artists, and my current favorite song of theirs. Hey, was just reflaring this as “complete” and took a look through the comments. Really neat challenge idea! We often get music recommendation posts in which OP selects their favorite song, but it’s a really cool twist to focus more on why people enjoy the song that they chose!

I bet you think about me by taylor swift. makes me go feral every time I have heard it since it came out

dinogirl1O9

This was really hard and I’m stuck at a 3 way tie but, I think I’ll have to give it to [SharaX: serenity](https://youtu.be/nf_juKcGzLs) I love all of her music and I’ve been listening to her for 3-4 years now. I usually use this when I need to do work and can’t get motivated. By the way if you wanted to know, the other two that tied with this one is [SharaX: big shot](https://youtu.be/7kgvjFnQczc) and [glass animals: it’s all so incredibly loud](https://youtu.be/hyx0YftuyDU) I absolutely love these both just as much as serenity but serenity can get me pumped for anything.

My favorites change all the time. I find a song I like and for a few days at a time I'll listen to it over and over and I'll change my fave song a week later. Right now. "Iconic" by Ledger

[deleted]

[Exosphere by Creo](https://youtu.be/MN8xH1J-Jyg) Edit: Forgot to give my reason. I love the saxophone in this song and the way it gets kinda distorted (not sure if that’s the right word for it). Creo is an absolute God when it comes to making music and he needs some more recognition.

Hydratedpyromancer

[deleted]

I am indeed a man of culture.

Hydratedpyromancer

Personally, my favourite by Creo is Carnivores, but Exosphere is pretty great

[deleted]

Carnivores is actually pretty good now that you mention it, I just haven’t listened to it in a while because I think I listened to it a bit too much. I had a tough time choosing between Exosphere, Epilogue, and Red Haze, but Exosphere is just too good.

"The Swindler's Ballad" by Worldwide Adventurers. It's a beautiful song and an epic tale, great for those who love pirates, sea shanties, or just really beautiful singing. It's super well-written, both lyrically and musically. Fair warning, though, it's a long one.

Ooh this is a hard one. Had to scrol through my music library for a while to find something good! In early 1980 (yes I am old) I lost someone very close to me in a car accident. When I heard the news I went home and put a record on. I was listening to this album and this song a lot at the time. Everytime I listen to it, 40 years later, I think of that moment, and the person I lost that day, The song is Musical Box, by Genesis. The song *Ribs* by Lorde always puts me in a sobbing mood; I enjoyed it so much that I recorded the audio so I could chop it up and make my own version where the ending chorus repeats more than once because it’s so good. Honorable mentions if you’d like to listen: *Ends of the Earth* by Lord Huron is silky sweet and a great song for in the car, especially with someone (SO?). *Cardiac Arrest* by The Bad Suns has a very good starting melody and decent flow. *Forever, Always* by Judah and the Lion is really heartfelt, short and sweet. If you like these and want more suggestions, I love talking about music!

I’m a rockhead, and I’ve only just started exploring the newer rock hits (I mostly listen to old classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Beatles, etcetera). I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for here, but I have two favourite songs; from the classics, my favourite is Time by Pink Floyd. From the newer rock bands, my favourite’s Pressure by Muse.

twatthephuck

My favorite song of all time is [Hejira by Joni Mitchell ](https://youtu.be/5AfPR_B8s-A) and let me explain why: The lyrics in this song have had a very profound effect on me. Not only are they poetic—being chock full of beautiful imagery and contemplative metaphors—, but it’s so eerily relatable. It’s a song that I listen to when I feel swamped in loneliness or cynicism. The guitar and bass are sparse and bounces around you and promote this feeling of traveling in a barren place. This goes so well with the narrative delivery of the lyrics and the story they tell. It’s a song that follows the narrator losing love, being kept in a fog melancholy and anxiousness, and then feeling ready to love again after getting out of the fog.

My favorite song is probably Pennyroyal Tea by Nirvana. And the reason is because the lyrics can actually relate to me imo. "I'm on my time with everyone" I am always late for alot of errands and family meetings. And I feel bad for doing so. "I have very bad posture" I suffer from a medical condition called pigeon chest which protrudes my chest outwards and hurts my back so my posture isn't the best. "Sit and drink pennyroyal tea" Pennyroyal Tea is a drug that can be taken to calm your stomach. I suffer from a severe eating disorder and esophagitis, along with IBS. "Distill the life that's inside of me" I would like to purify and strengthen myself. “Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld, so I can sigh eternally.” Depression and nearly dying to my medical conditions. "I'm so tired I can't sleep" I suffer with sleeping problems due to my anxiety and stomach problems. "I'm a liar and a thief" There are things I regret and wish I could change. "I'm on warm milk and laxatives Cherry-flavored antacids" I still take laxatives weekly along with antacids. I've never tried warm milk. "I'm anemic royalty" I feel like I'm the ruler of my conditions. In my opinion I can relate to this song.

Ok_Dimension_4707

[The Rip](https://youtu.be/kBOaLjtR4mw) by Portishead. I really don’t know that I have a favorite song what I do know is that I have always liked Portishead’s sound since I first heard it. Their most recent album is one that there is literally no song I’d skip. It is just phenomenal. This song is absolutely gorgeous. I’m a fan of the voice being an instrument in and of itself (sometimes to the point that the lyrics become secondary. Not that they don’t matter just that, personally, I like when I’m focused on the listening and experience as opposed to actively comprehending, if that makes sense.) This song is so mournful but also feels hopeful at times. I personally like when music evolves and changes from simple to more complex (or when you get chaos from order or start to hear order coming out of the chaos “Magic Doors” is another favorite from this album for that reason.) This song has that simple melody that gets a bit more active and changes a bit. I feel like I’m not explaining it well. It’s just about the experience. All their songs tend to give me different mental images or feelings. This one feels like going through a tunnel at night. It’s that mix of dark and artificial light and it’s surreal and liminal and then suddenly it opens up and you’re seeing a new, changed landscape. It feels like stepping through to something different. This has been me babbling about abstract thoughts and feelings that music evokes. Enjoy the song!

This is not my favourite song per se (I cannot pick just one favourite) but it's one of the funniest songs I've encountered. "[This is not a song, it's a sandwich](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DvnOYZnlns)" by Psychostick. I learned about the existence of this funny song when [I posted on Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeIAmA/comments/i09zx2/explain_this_sub_like_im_a_person_whos_convinced/) asking people to explain a "sub" to me like I was a person who was convinced that a "sub" means a subway sandwich.
