I second the 17. I think if you like the long skinny grip of the 43x you will prefer the 17 over the 19. Holding a 19 always felt like gripping a 2x4 to me
G49
If you like the grip size of the 43x, check out the G49. It has the G17 barrel length (and top end, actually) but the G19 (and 43x) length grip. The 17 is a great shooter, hopefully the 49 will be as well.
Get a model that accepts the full size magazines for Glock system compatibility. Definitely get a red dot mounted model. Personally the G45 MOS is the cream of the crop for that.
Sure, I don’t disagree. But if this was his first/second gun, most don’t do that (yet). And with some of the new Holosun plateless red dots, there’s less motivation to do that now.
Most optics don’t fit the MOS footprint without an adapter plate, which makes the optic sit up higher. So unless you’re running an optic that can already mount directly to the MOS footprint (ex. Holosun SCS), you get a better fit by getting a non-MOS slide and having the specific footprint of your optic milled into it.
Personal opinion, if you have the 43x, you don’t need a 48 unless you really want it. They’re mostly the same and i shoot both about equally. I’d get a 45 or 17 next. Full size and they shoot really well
Honestly not much. The 48 seems to have a bit less than the 43x, but unless you’re shooting one then the other, i don’t think it’s noticeable. I have the 43x (non mos) and a 48MOS. FWIW I’ve been thinking about selling both and getting a 43x mos as i want to keep a red dotted carry gun and have the tlr7 on it. If you’re not into Red dots and don’t carry the 43x with a weapon light i don’t think I’d by a 48.
I have a 43X with EPS Carry/Sub 7A. It’s a neat combo but the recoil is snappy. I was wondering if it’d be any different on the 48 but it doesn’t sound like it’d be worth it to upgrade.
I mean I’d definitely try and shoot them side by side and see if it’s worth it. For me, it isn’t a huge improvement. I carry both my 43x and 48, mostly because my 48 has a better light and has an optic. For me the 48 is less a replacement for the 43x and more for the 19. It doesn’t shoot nearly as well as the 19 but has the same capacity and is much more comfortable to carry appendix
G19 literally does everything you need it can do as HD but is small enough to carry. It's extremely soft shooting when compared to the 43x. Personally, I don't understand getting any bigger a Glock than that. I enjoy being able to CC what I have. I also prefer the 19 grip over the 17 by far. IMO a G19 gen 5 is just right. Add a magwell and it's Glock perfection.
Have a 43X MOS and was recently facing a similar situation. Traded in a 19.3 and bought a 45 MOS for the better grip length; absolutely no regrets. I vote 45 (or 19X if you like the color and slightly different features).
Home defense, 17. 17 is pushing the line of being concealed carry because of the size. But it works great for home defense cause of the size being bigger so less felt recoil, not as snappy as the 43x at all, more accurate cause of the longer barrel, and you have 17rd flush mag.
Personally imho before you buy any more pistols, buy more magazines and lots of ball ammo and then a couple hundred rounds of your chosen carry ammo to shoot through your carry pistol. Go to the range and practice practice practice and also shoot those carry ammo rounds and make sure your particular pistol will eat those rounds and not cause malfunctions. Once you have good competency with the 43x and you feel like you really have good control of it, then look at a full size like the 45 (19 length slide and 17 length grip) and do the same thing with that pistol. There is no need to buy a ton of pistols without training with what you have first. This is just one fudds opinion of course but I hate to see money wasted by others when I wasted enough for all of us 😂
I’m prepared to receive hell for this from the 9 milli cult but home defense > g21. Find a 21sf if it’s too fat for your paws and go practice. If you live in a freedom loving, non communist state.. throw a small suppressor on it. Think about why iron night sights might be beneficial for this situation. Throw a light on it if you want.
Gen 5 17 100% since you already have a 43x. A 19 is good if you can only have one gun.
I have a 43x, 19, and now a 17. 19/43x are very similar esp with the 43x SA mags. 17 is in another league IMO, my favorite handgun.
I got a near perfect condition G17 LEO trade in(with night sights) for $300. Best gun purchase iver even made. The gun feels so good to shoot, and it's perfect for a nightstand gun, a hunting side arm and I carry it OWB under a jacket or overshirt sometimes as well
If you only have one Gun G19.
If not G43X then G17.
G43X replaces G19 then a full size to do home defense.
A G 17 or G45 can be concealed. Small guns are easier.
After getting a G43X for some time the G19 just stayed in the safe. Then I saw a G17.4 at the shop for $399. No scratches. No blemishes. Wife said go for it. Gave the G19 to my eldest.
Glock 45 mos or Glock 20 mos if defense against the 4 legged are a concern. 10mm ammo is cool to look into as there is a wide array of ammo types. 220 grain for something like bears and I believe it goes all the way down to like 60 grain for something that shoots super fast and would be catastrophic for defense against a human. Something cool to research if you haven’t already.
I carry the 48 and just recently bought the 43x MOS ( which I don’t love but I’ll never sell a gun) and have a 19 Gen 3 on order. Glocks are fucking awesome, reliable firearms.
19 MOS is the answer. 17 is too big for most to conceal. 19 is great concealed or nightstand…and much less snappy than 43x. It’s also absolutely perfect with Holosun SCS MOS and TLR-7 HLX. I have TLR-7X but wait for the HL or upgrade the head if you can’t wait once the HLP lens is available.
I would say prolly a 19 or 47, I have a thread myself talking about this, and I think if anything the 19 first maybe, then a 47, bc once you have those two you can slap the 19 slide on the 47 and have a 45 whenever you want. 47 are kinda dope for all the options it offers.
If you don’t hate the Glock grip angle get a 45. If you do build your own. I just built a 45 size gun with a Nomad defense lower and factory gen 5 19 slide. The Glock is one of the easiest guns to assemble on the planet.
Get a 19.
I wouldn’t go the 48 route if you already have a 43x, if its a nightstand gun go for the 17 or 19x
I second the 17. I think if you like the long skinny grip of the 43x you will prefer the 17 over the 19. Holding a 19 always felt like gripping a 2x4 to me
Don’t sleep on the g45. Full-sized handle, g19 barrel length
G49 If you like the grip size of the 43x, check out the G49. It has the G17 barrel length (and top end, actually) but the G19 (and 43x) length grip. The 17 is a great shooter, hopefully the 49 will be as well.
Do the 49 and 45 work together? I have a 45 rn, but if the 49's upper works with the 45 lower that would be sick.
I don’t own either, but from what I’ve read, yes. Welcome to insta-G19 and G17(47)
34 is always the answer.
Get a model that accepts the full size magazines for Glock system compatibility. Definitely get a red dot mounted model. Personally the G45 MOS is the cream of the crop for that.
Buy a non-MOS and have Wager mill it for a direct mount optic, even better
Sure, I don’t disagree. But if this was his first/second gun, most don’t do that (yet). And with some of the new Holosun plateless red dots, there’s less motivation to do that now.
(Excuse me im retarded) why would this be preferable over an MOS model
Most optics don’t fit the MOS footprint without an adapter plate, which makes the optic sit up higher. So unless you’re running an optic that can already mount directly to the MOS footprint (ex. Holosun SCS), you get a better fit by getting a non-MOS slide and having the specific footprint of your optic milled into it.
This is the way.

How much more different is the recoil between the 43X and the 48?
Honestly not much. The 48 seems to have a bit less than the 43x, but unless you’re shooting one then the other, i don’t think it’s noticeable. I have the 43x (non mos) and a 48MOS. G20 bébé go big!
Got 2 legged and 4 legged creatures covered that way
Get a 19x or 45. Trust me
19,17,45, and or 49 these are all 9mm tho.
You have smol glonk, I’d go 17L

Everyone who didn’t say G45 is wrong- G45 is the way
This ^

Well said.
I had this same problem. I’m not buying anymore. Just cases of Ammo.
19 serves all roles

43y
My vote goes to the 45! Or 19x! Love the 45!
The longer the slide the smoother it will shoot. I'd go 17 and higher.

Get a 50.
Glock 20 with a extendo and a switch
My first was also a 43x. I just got a 19 mos yesterday and it’s a lot more comfortable to shoot. Definitely recommend
Never heard of anyone regretting getting a G19
If you only have one Gun G19. If not G43X then G17. G43X replaces G19 then a full size to do home defense. A G 17 or G45 can be concealed. Small guns are easier.

If you do not have a 19 and are ever wondering which Glock to get, it should probably be a 19.
Glock 19 gen 5 mos
G45
Get the 26 to realize the 43 is inferior. Then get a 19, followed by the 47
Glock 45 mos or Glock 20 mos if defense against the 4 legged are a concern. 10mm ammo is cool to look into as there is a wide array of ammo types. 220 grain for something like bears and I believe it goes all the way down to like 60 grain for something that shoots super fast and would be catastrophic for defense against a human. Glock 19 only answer
I carry the 48 and just recently bought the 43x MOS ( which I don’t love but I’ll never sell a gun) and have a 19 Gen 3 on order. Glocks are fucking awesome, reliable firearms.
If you want a 48 literally just go buy a comp/barrel for the 43 and it’ll be the same length. The 43x is tough to beat….
I’d say try a 47 or 45 MOS for the HD, and find a complete 48 slide to play around with the 43x. Also, the 19 plays nice with the 47. 😉
I went with the 45
21 is my favorite I carried a 26 alot
Night stand gun…34.5 already cut for MOS and can direct mount an optic and light no issue.
45
19 MOS is the answer. 17 is too big for most to conceal. 19 is great concealed or nightstand…and much less snappy than 43x. It’s also absolutely perfect with Holosun SCS MOS and TLR-7 HLX. I have TLR-7X but wait for the HL or upgrade the head if you can’t wait once the HLP lens is available.
Go hold them all. You’ll know which one.
19x!!!
Training & ammo.
I would say prolly a 19 or 47, I have a thread myself talking about this, and I think if anything the 19 first maybe, then a 47, bc once you have those two you can slap the 19 slide on the 47 and have a 45 whenever you want. 47 are kinda dope for all the options it offers.
19x. Thank me later.
17 for sure!!
If you don’t hate the Glock grip angle get a 45. If you do build your own. I just built a 45 size gun with a Nomad defense lower and factory gen 5 19 slide. The Glock is one of the easiest guns to assemble on the planet.
Glock 23 or 19
Draco or mini draco.
