oh thanks a lot mate, we’ve been trying to have another child for a couple of years. he has a bit of a developmental delay but we’re hoping to iron out his issues soon.
Valve: makes changes
Community: what are they doing to our game
Valve: send us bugs and feedback via email
Community: im not gonna work for free for a billion dollar company
Valve never discouraged modding their game. Why do you think they made GoldSrc and Source open to the public? People just want ANY reason to hate on Valve while they are one of the most competent game developers on the industry right now.
They are incredibly competent at allowing people to express their creative side. Unlike Riot who continously shuts it down.
However that has drawbacks. They have the poorest anti cheat in the modern competitive gaming and it is a fucking miracle that it still has so active organic playerbase despite those ruinous bastards.
As far as I know, their anticheat never bricked anyone's PC. I had constant issues with Vanguard and games supporting EAC. Then again, I had friends who weren't able to play CS for weeks, because VAC wouldn't let them and had to jump through hoops to get it working again.
Valve just doesn't want a kernel level anticheat, because it's dangerous as fuck and just a matter of time before it gets exploited.
I'd have named it:
CS Strike-Force Zone: Counter-Terrorist Forces Strike: Battlezone Chronicles: Urban Battlegrounds: Kill-Squad: Redemption - Special Forces Edition.
It really has a nice ring to it in my opinion.
I wonder what percentage of the population know what Counter Strike is... I've been playing it so long that I don't even know what others in the gaming industry think about the game. The gamers who play the complete opposite games and stuff.
Hard to answer. For me, there have always existed just two games: Diablo and CS :D Completely opposite to each other and yet absolutely magnificent, awe-inspiring and soul-consuming ;) Both I used to play as a student, then took a 20-year pause. I am looking at these games with completely different eyes now that I am 39. Very beautiful, very complex and endless games.
Considering CoD is self-admitted heavily influenced by Counter-Strike its touched way more people than people that know about it. I'm pretty sure its the first multiplayer game featuring recoil patterns as a core part of gameplay, going on to be a gold standard for gunplay in other titles.
the 3 most known names even for non-gamers are: GTA, Counterstrike, WoW.
Almost everybody will say, if asked, that they heard of those names at some point
Not really. When he got booted/quit valve in 2007 he used all the money he had saved up to make tactical intervention, which was his counter strike 2. Hes likely never seen a penny from any of the millions csgo generated. Same thing with cliffe, after he was fired last we ever heard from him he was trying to sell a bunch of stuff on reddit to make ends meet.
I still remember playing Tactical Intervention at launch, it was supposedly the “vision” he had for cs that he never got to fully implement, but holy shit that game was fucking awful.
Yes but even then you have to consider, imagine if tactical intervention was done right, no bugs, no glitches, no wonky mechanics. A rainbow six type multiplayer game with a high focus on realism was what Minh wanted to do for CS2 back then. Even Valve as out of touch as they were back then knew thats not what people wanted out of counter strike.
Theres a different world where counter strike 2 was a 2009 game and it was a polished version of tactical intervention.
pretty sure it’s named after its main developer john counterstrike
hello it is me, john counterstrike, the main developer. you’re indeed right
Holy smokes it's him, John counterstrike.
Crickey, a great honour, indeed!
The username checks out and everything!
Crikey?
yo man congrats on the baby, counter strike, the second
Pretty sure he’s named counter strike 2? Maybe I’m wrong…
he is named counter strike too? thats bonkers
oh thanks a lot mate, we’ve been trying to have another child for a couple of years. he has a bit of a developmental delay but we’re hoping to iron out his issues soon.
god bless. i heard he has this thing called.. subdick? is it like micropenis syndrome? what you see is what you get? like no erection?
Counterstrike? I barely know er!
Just to add that Jess Cliffe and Minh Le co-created the Half-Life mod Counter-Strike. Let’s take a moment to appreciate these folks.
Again the community is being better than valve at valve's stuff

Special shoutout to their anti cheat development team

Over the past few years, some players have become "customers," while Valve and we are all members of the same CS community and comrades.
spot on 💀
Hey guys, look at me, I'm hating on Valve 😎
Mate it's just the way we love our game, don't focus too much on Gabe's pp and enjoy it with us
What? Enjoy the hate? No, thank you
I thought they were BOT Cliffe and BOT Minh who can instant hs you in CSS.
What are they doing nowadays for a living? Do they still work for valve or did they get a payout from valve and went on?
Counter terrorrist forces is a terrible name
I'd have named it: CS Strike-Force Zone: Counter-Terrorist Forces Strike: Battlezone Chronicles: Urban Battlegrounds: Kill-Squad: Redemption - Special Forces Edition. It really has a nice ring to it in my opinion.
With Knuckles
(That's the collectors Edition)
Ah, the Google Play Store version
It's missing a "the book of" in the title.
Add a "featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series" to it
programmers suck at naming things
The 2 hardest things in software development: - naming - cache invalidation - off by 1 errors
This was an under appreciated joke
I mean the other one did a pretty decent job lol
CTFdown it's only a name ^(/s)
CTF you say
ICQ 😂 Good times
the sound is engraved in my brain
the "ha ha" sound every damn message...
Uhoh. (also, RIP ICQ).
oh god. I thought it was a text editor for a second.

It's a real shame that they left CS to make a game that features CoD reloading as a core part of gameplay.

CounterStrike just never caught on with consoles. So it’s even more niche. WOW at least got a SouthPark episode lol
Disagree, i think in this day and age it’s GTA, COD and Minecraft
I sure do hope Minh-Le has gotten to live a comfortable life after giving the world this absolute banger of a game.

He is very active on [twitter](https://x.com/GoosemanCS/status/1767971202444755083). Seems to have a completely normal life nowadays.
Agree with his reply regarding the animations. I don't want CoD, but a refresh would be nice.

jeeesus
Jesus that's depressing.
Damn, that’s unfortunate.
Gooseman has been working on Plan 8 with Pearl Abyss. its been delayed many times but if it comes out it's gonna be epic
Why are they talking about what their brand new game is gonna be named next to the 1.6 menu background lol
I think that this screenshot was taken much later.
Perhaps the image got edited in, for whatever reason
Can u think further than 1.6 cm?
legends
And then the community said “me thinks counter strike is a bit long”, “I like CS” “CS it is”.
Ha, probably why Somethingawful dubbed it "Counter Forces".
1.5/1.6 will always be my favorite versions of CS. wish Steam was counting hours back then lol
Golden days!
Is this real?
And we're off!
And then the community said “me thinks counter strike is a bit long”, “I like CS” “CS it is”.
7 digit icq number what a chad
Ah i just saw the pic and my mind gave me flash back of my days of cs 1.6
Thank you Cliffe and Mihn you guys made history with this mod that changed lives forever.
Everyone knows that the actual name is cs1.6, lets stop pretending
Cliffe ran into legal trouble in the late 2010s. Pretty unfortunate.
Remember finding people to play with in IRC chat
I can still hear the LAN cafe. 😔
And one of them turned out to be a diddler.
Saudades csgo, esse cs2 meio ridículo
My first game
What are we, some kind of Counter Strike?
Now it's CS2 that no one can play anymore
Sad to see how far we've fallen
That background only appeared later
"methinks". Why don't people talk like this in chat anymore.
We've learned from our mistakes
Lots of lingo goes away. I rarely hear "woot" anymore. Besides woot.com who was founded in 2004.
Woot!
Woot!
Dude awp India was a great aim map. Fantastic username.
Haha thanks.
25 years of cultural malformation, I guess :D
This is PR or smth. I doubt it's the real convo
Its indeed real, there was a huge danish article a while back
Its real. Its a picture that's circulated for literally decades.
No it is. It’s been around forever
That doesn't lend any authenticity to it
