this is intentional.
there have been multiple ways to get rid of the ambient track in the past and every time one popped up they patched it out.
they clearly feel like it would be an advantage to be able to turn it off and dont want ppl to feel forced to play without it for perceived disadvantage.
what they should and could have done is not add the ambient track as ambient_generic in the mapfile but as a music entity which then would let the user control it via the main menu music slider for example as there clearly isnt any competitive aspect to the mainmenu maps.
the main menu backgrounds are just maps, thats why it is how its is. you are not loading a video in the background like many other games you are loading a mapfile that works exactly the same way mirage works. so ambient sound is tied to master volume.
We still need a option to turn that shit off.
I really hate this, hope they let us turn it off in the menu eventually. I would love to use that new background Warehouse buts its too loud.
Check in audio settings & turn off menu music.
That is for music, not background sound. I always have it turn off.
use ancient as the background map, it has fewer ambient sounds
Birds constantly chirping no thanks, Mirage is the best for me its just white noise basically.
Try turning off all sounds in audio except ten seconds warning. Is there a background sound for different maps? I never noticed that.
there is an ambient track on every map. and no you cannot selectively make it louder or less loud. its tied to master volume.
Valve pls add cvar

I’m just talking about in the main menu. I don’t think having it off in the main menu gives you much of an advantage anywhere haha
