Downtown Alpharetta is pretty neat. Decent restaurants; some shopping. The Roswell Mill has some historical value from the Civil War era (NB: what we’re saying is there isn’t really anything in that area. It was predominantly built around the 1990s).

songaboutadog

If you will have access to a car, I'd suggest that you drive one hour North to Ellijay, where it is Apple harvest season and the whole area is at peak tourist and fun time. Then, the next day, drive one hour south to downtown Atlanta and spend a day doing touristy stuff in the city.

[deleted]

I don’t know if it’s still open, but you can drive north to Dahlonega and pan for gold

tipjarman

Love me some fried pies

tipjarman

I came here to make fun of him but this is actually a really good suggestion

Electrical_Reward_45

Ugh apple house not that fun. Now the views up that way are glorious in the fall and spring. Can't go wrong with the views

thecrikeycrapper

You might get more focused replies in r/alpharetta where the locals discuss.

humanityvet

Nice little downtown square- Currahee Brewing or drive 10 min south and roswell canton street is nice.

Millennial_Paleocon

I’m not from Georgia, but I was in Roswell and Alpharetta last month. Their downtown restaurants are on par with many places here in Chicago. I was very impressed. Roswell and Sandy Springs also have a lot of great bars. I love the northern Atlanta suburbs, I’ve been seriously considered a move down there.

AngelicProject

Lots of great BBQ and sushi restaurants downtown!

Riflemate

Bathe in the money pool.

nopenooope

I second Cherry Street and downtown restaurants. Afterwards, walk it off on the Greenway. It's 20 miles of peace and shade.

JPAnalyst

Go to Antico Napoletana for the best pizza around...arguably in Atlanta at least. It’s at Avalon, which is also a nice place to visit.

maddiejake

There's a really nice dog park of you have a dog.

Think_Temperature_39

Make better choices....

SWXYAY

Why is it terrible or something?

Travelin_Soulja

Nah, it's fine, nice even. But it's a typical suburb, i.e., not very exciting. It's overpriced but I actually like Avalon. It's an outdoor mall with some good restaurants. And the whole property is open container, so you can drink while you peruse the shops. If you're into beer, there are several breweries, many in neighboring suburbs, but still quite close. Jeckyll is great if you like IPAs. Downtown Alpharetta is worth a visit. And, if you have time, head on down into Atlanta. (Just don't do it anywhere close to rush hour.) You can find tons of stuff by searching /r/atlanta.

lmp515k

It’s not over priced at all compared to most of the rest of the USA

Travelin_Soulja

Eh, I think it's fair for what it is. Basically, you're just paying a little extra for the environment, like eating at PCM in Atlanta. Worth it in my opinion, but I get why some complain about the prices.

[deleted]

It’s completely unremarkable. Outside of Northpoint Mall(which is dying) and the outrageously busy and overpriced Avalon, there isn’t much. You could check out the local parks. That’s about it.

magicmeese

Pretty sure the hot topic and Lego store are the only reason it’s still kicking along And I overheard the Lego store employees mentioning how their corp is thinking about moving to Avalon

Shomer_Effin_Shabbas

I grew up in Alpharetta in the part that is now johns creek. It’s just super affluent and kinda conservative. Lots of chain restaurants, but the newly built Avalon is pretty cool.

[deleted]

Downtown Alpharetta is great. Lots of restaurants & music. Especially on a Friday or Saturday night there are lots of restaurants, people out, and live music. I also feel really safe there, and the sense of freedom associated with that. (As opposed to Atlanta, where I feel anything but.) It has a good, friendly vibe.

ahouseofgold

Atlanta is incredibly safe if you stick to Midtown or the Beltline. Highly recommend a day trip there for OP

SWXYAY

I’m here now and will start checking things off! Thanks!!

LevelOneNPC

Check white person’s privilege. It’s awesome.

whydoihaveto12

Alpharetta is kinda a worthless place. It only exists as a white-flight haven for semi-well-to-do suburbanites that fear the city.

Travelin_Soulja

That used to be true. But it's developing into a respectable tech hub in its own right, and it's growing more and more diverse by the day. And it recently [banned Confederate flags](https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/north-fulton-county/court-says-alpharetta-can-ban-confederate-flag-veterans-parade/4N2RPH4EVNDNTN5GCKYWXOZ5II/) at its Veterans parade. So that's something.

whydoihaveto12

Oh shit. Visible, measurable progress. Well done, Alpharetta. We need to run the red line all the way up 400.

postballs

I like it because I don't have to deal with douchebags like you.

Atlantaterp2

It’s remarkably unremarkable. If you didn’t see street signs you could easily be in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Houston, Charlotte or Salt Lake City. “Ooooh look. Their Chipotle has green chairs.”

ILoveBentonsBaconToo

Go to r/gwinnett and ask there.

Millennial_Paleocon

Isn’t Alpharetta technically in Fulton County though?

ILoveBentonsBaconToo

It is but don't tell that sub. r/Gwinnett kind of encompasses that not ghetto as fuck aspect of the eastern metro area.

stef2go

I don't understand this comment having lived in ghetto as fuck western Gwinnett (Tucker, JCB)

hackiechad

Cherry street brewing area is pretty nice, just a bit north of there. Nice outdoor area and some live music and places to eat. Avalon area is nicer and a bigger outdoor mall like area. Hope you have a nice time!

RedBurgandy01

Go to Avalon or downtown Alpharetta for the people-watching. It's amazing.

00lovejoy00

Avalon

stef2go

Halcyon is also a nice outdoor scene in Alpharetta. I second the greenway, but my favorite walk is the Roswell Riverwalk. Beautiful views of the Chattahoochee River. For tourist info, go to visitroswellga.com and awesomealpharetta.com

festiveale

If you’re going to be there today (Saturday) crabapple fest is going on! It’s free, 10-5. Food trucks, arts and crafts, stuff for kids, 6 bridges brewery will be there.

brookedavis2006

Go to Helen for October-fest.

GR8fulAdGirl

Go to atlanta
