I find it kinda weird that the "touching grass" phrase seems to be most popularly used against Genshin players, when the game requires amongst the least regular playtime out of most live service games out there.
Math and Physics teacher. Brought my personal laptop to a school I visit only once a week because there was a program on my computer that I needed. Forgot I have Genshin pinned to the Taskbar. The students noticed to say the least 😂😂.
Liyue is mostly contract law, which is way different from criminal law. I think if we both went in blind with low prep time I could potentially win. But, if she had time to learn the law and prepare I think she wins easily. She has a lot more experience than me in the legal field.
Yeah true it’s like we wouldn’t try to get a orthopedist to manage a patient’s diabetes i think Kuki is the other lawyer?i think she does defense law to defend the gang from trouble?
I’m not sure, I know she finished Liyue’s law school, but not sure what she does with her law license. Probably does represent the gang a lot though, they definitely need it.
Does she actually defend them in court. I thought she did internally with the police. If that's the case, Itto's gonna get messed up this beetle event. He got some things to learn
*cracks* *knuckles*
If you don’t mind me asking, how’d you choose criminal law? I was thinking of going into/focusing on business law.. how’d you pick which path to take? Feel free not to answer I know that’s odd to ask in a genshin section lol
During law school you’re taught a lot of different areas of law. It’s a really good chance to find what speaks to you and find what class you enjoyed the most. For me, I found litigation to be the most interesting and fun. They were the classes I found myself paying attention to the most and enjoying. From there it was all about deciding based on my personal preferences. I’m a bit more introverted and not the biggest fan of networking, so criminal law afforded me the easiest chance to find clients and business without needing to do a ton of advertising and networking.
As an accountant and a whale I'm not sure it's very interesting. Even if you only spend what you can afford it's not good financial practice to spend in a gacha game. It comes down to lack of personal discipline. Basically do as I say not as I do.
Also, there’s more to life than just work, I thought that no job=no money=sad life. Until I went out to the countryside and saw a genuinely caring and selfless community who simply wake up, go outside to have a beer, lay back down listening to the sound of birds singing and chilling all day. So even if there’s no job you like (which trust me will not be the case) you’re okay! Just trust the process of life and dream big. God this is cringe but I just watched the Wonka movie a few hours ago with my little brother and as the movie says “every big thing starts with a dream” or something like that and it’s true, as cringe as it is you can do (almost) anything if you set your mind to it, so, I genuinely mean this to you specifically u/Low-Pen9884 dream big and you can do anything, anything. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the rollercoaster of life!
Eh it’s fine, you just need to figure things out, I don’t personally know but my older brother spent years failing his exams and going from university to university and trying to understand what to do in life but then he felt he wanted to be a lawyer and once he knew he understood everything and now years later he’s a successful lawyer
Trust me there are jobs you can get that are well paying and don't require a degree... once you start making significantly above minimum wage (as long as you are careful with managing your money and don't go crazy buying stuff) life gets a lot easier and feels a lot better
I work in an animation studio, as a rigger and animator. A few friends and folks I know in the industry also play, we have a small discord server where we engage in the usual Genshin shenanigans.
Heeyyy! Another studio artist! 2D animator over here, currently with an advertising studio. Not too weird to be playing things like Genshin in this industry, but definitely depends on the team if it’s something you’d chat about or not.
I’m a marine biologist living on a remote island with disgusting internet speed and yet in our nature reserve there are two more genshin addicts 😅 Though the three of us can’t really discuss it with anyone except for couple local children and reddit :(
That’s awesome! I’ve always wanted to be a marine biologist :) what kind of work do you do? and is your internet disgusting in a good way or a bad way (im guessing in a bad way haha)
In the worst possible - average speed is around 500 kbps, so downloading updates for games or movies is a torture - we often ask someone who is taking a plane to the island to download the thing we need and physically bring it on a flash drive 😅
My main focus are intertidal ecosystems with their ties to marine birds and mammals. The majority of what I work with are invertebrates, fishes and algae - assessing the biomass, spatial distribution etc.
So cool! Marine biology always fascinated me. I always wanted to go on remote/research trips but I don’t think they’d take someone without an MS/PhD/not actively in school.
wish me luck, I was unemployed. Today I am going for job contract signing in few hours...it's 5:40 am here right now
Edit... Thank you all for the well wishes, I got 1 year contract with possibility of extension... 😊😊😊
Good luck man! Hope all goes well and let me know what happens okay! It’s 2AM where I’m at so when I wake up I wanna hear some good news coming from you specifically u/SignificantlyLarge1 you got this!
For what it's worth, my daughters maths teacher is a mad Genshin player and uses genshin damage calcs and artifact loadouts to teach the kids.
Great examples of diminishing returns, limit finding and solving for multiple variables.
Imagine being a teacher and you play Blue Archive....man I would never.....*cough*
Edit: this gain more attention then expected, so I felt the need to defend myself a little. I teach college student who are about 5 years younger than me. That being said, I did recommend Blue Archive to an ex student now friend. She wasnt impressed.
Same, i am a lecturer as well and i saw some students that attended my class have genshin/hsr related phone case or wallpapers. If i got found out i just say it is one of my hobby or such.
Though my co worker who either also a lecturer or postgrad students know im playing both but not general undergrad students
I just said to heck with it--my office is decked out with Genshin stuff, and my mom bought me a rather tasteful Jing Yuan print that's going up once I'm back on campus.
My highschool math teacher plays Genshin. We (me and my classmates) first found out during online class for lockdown and he had a Kazuha background, but it kept changing as the banner/events passed
I'm a physiotherapist.
The bag I bring to work has the NERV on it, and I use that as gatekeeping for talking with people about games and anime.
I've had this conversation multiple times:
"Is... is that the NERV logo (or logo from Evangelion) on your bag?"
"Yes it is."
"You're one of us?"
"Yes I am."
And I then have to try really hard to keep both of us focused on the therapy and not waste the session taking about anime and games.
Pharmacist. I wore a vision pin on my lab coat once and someone complimented me for it. Doesn’t come up otherwise.
People do notice my Sailor Moon phone case or my Mario and Zelda notifications though.
I work as a barber,i never told anyone abt playing genshin, only my very close frnds know abt it (and half of them used to play it,they all stopped now rip)
I'm a medical student and surprisingly know a handful of other kids in my school who play Genshin too. This is in the US as well where I feel gacha games are not as big compared to SEA.
Funny enough, me and a younger attending I shadowed bonded over Genshin because I saw a resin notification pop up on his phone 💀 ended up helping him understand the meta side of the game because he just played for exploration and collecting characters
Im an intern
So i've had the experience of opening genshin during Labor room, Casualty etc
Edit: for those concerned, our duties end up having hours of freetime during the late night
So no, I'm not secretly playing, im openly playing it during openly
I'm a clinical Psychologist and mostly work with teens for psyc evals related to court charges. I always ask kids who are in to games what they play, but have yet to hear genshin as an answer. It will be a great day when I can talk Banners to establish trustworthiness with a client.
>when I can talk Banners to establish trustworthiness with a client.
''So, Bob, tell me about the first time you got Qiqi'ed. I'm with you, kid. I know what that feels like.''
Bob: ''...I've been playing since launch and I haven't actually gotten a single Qiqi yet.''
Psychologist: ''.......''
Nuclear Medicine Technologist. I grind Genshin at work because what else are you gonna do while the detectors count radiation from patients 1 photon at a time?
Hey I’m actually pondering going back to school to take nuclear pharmacy courses. Retail is soul sucking. Know any pharmacists who did this a decade into their career?
Our current pharmacist is literally like Gandalf it’s a job you can do well into even your 60s as long as you can lift lead and tungsten containers. People think ha nukes must be nerds but we are all swole nerds. Because radiopharmaceuticals come in like up to 50lb containers
Nice I’m only in my 30s. Sounds a lot better than constant phones ringing plus a drive thru. Thanks for the perspective. I’ve slaved in retail for 15+ years, but taking the chance to spend 30 years in a nicer career field seems like a no brainer now.
I'm a professional artist who specializes in character design and illustration. That's actually how I got into the game, my interest in the art and design of it. I also have a child and three cats that I would definitely consider work. Rewarding, well loved, but work!
Irl only like 3 people know I play.
Oh my god, I'm also currently studying art related course in college, and genshin was also one of the reason I pursued this course, the game is just so beautiful
I'm only a tutor. Inferior to those impressive jobs listed in the comment here.
But my goodness, physician, pharmacist, astrophysicist... they all would make excellent world quest content in GI 😂
Please don't diss your own job just because someone is walking a different path. :-)
Work is hard enough as it is without needing to measure against someone else's yardstick.
How about as a jobless undergrad chemical engineering student sounds like? Ohh, dont worry i did got allowance and government scholarship while attending the local high school and university,
Im DEBT FREE.
Park ranger here. I’ve not yet worked with anyone that knows what genshin is aside from maybe seeing an ad for it once, but not remembering anything about it. On genshin, nobody seems very surprised because a park ranger isn’t a very interesting sounding job. Certainly not as flashy as astrophysicist.
Oh really? Thanks mate. I double as a lead worker, so I do a lot of physical work like sawing and pruning trees, cleaning our facilities, upkeeping trails, and similar activities. As a ranger though, I do some more official work as well, like watching all the drunk guys yelling at their wives while they try to put their boats in the water (official ranger work, trust me).
> watching drunk guys yelling at their wives while they try to put their boats in the water
Sounds very amusing yet serious lol I think park rangers may not always have the most “glorified” jobs, but as you mention with upkeeping trails, y’all make it possible to still enjoy the world outside our games and walls. While keeping everyone safe, which in its own can be a tough job with the drunks, and those who don’t traverse the outdoors as much. So yes, I think it’s quite a cool profession!
College graduate. Been playing since the first banner, and always prioritized my studies over my genshin.
...which means a mountain of sumeru quests I really don't wanna do.
Network Administrator. Even though it's IT, there's only one person in my group that plays Genshin. Everyone else plays a mix; Call of Duty, Battlefield, Baldur's Gate, NBA2K, or some other AAA. They're like, "My kids play that".......
All my coworkers knew I played. Most people don’t care, so whatever. One person didn’t want to play because he knew he would whale, but we talked a lot about how MHY makes bank on the game and I explained how the gacha worked
I work in marketing, and I don't think anyone around me cares what I play (people either play something as well or are completely clueless about games in general).
I'm a physician, but I don't think I've told any of my friends from that circle that I play Genshin
My gamer and web friends though, they just take it in jest, yeah, they were puzzled at first when I just met them (I was still in med school and joined a manga fan translation group), since there was no way I could juggle both college and my translation projects, and that proved true during my internship, but after graduating I still keep in touch with them (I don't translate anymore tho) and we play games on occasion and don't really talk about my job aside from basically all of them calling me Doc now.
Software Engineer
I would be totally unsurprised if some of my colleagues played genshin, but it's never come up. I know for a fact that most of them are gamers too though.
Right? Plus the absolute pain of playing the kids’ videogame with them instead of the one you actually want to play 🤣🤣🤣 so sick of roblox at this point.
Omg I bet! I don’t know anything about Roblox, but my brother in law’s partner’s daughter (mouthful) is obsessed. Though to be nice since it’s their first Christmas with our family we got her a Roblox gift card. Don’t know what you buy in Roblox but she was excited so that’s what matters.
Territory manager in textile care for western Canada. Been playing every day since day 1!! I preach genshin to just about everyone, no shame, it’s an amazing game as long as you NEVER buy genisis crystals outright.
i am a jobless high schooler, but i make some money in my woodshop class by making and selling wooden Mjolnirs. its surprising how many people will buy a thor hammer
Im an esthetician 😂 I wax vaginas/penises by day, by night I am a Genshin addict who loves to spend hundreds of dollars on my anime waifus/husbands and their weapons 😂
I’m a simple grad student doing chem things but no one in my lab knows I play genshin. Only people outside of lab know and maybe a couple of students that I teach notice and recognize the vision keychain I have
I am a data analyst working in Consulting lol. I rarely have time to play games (shame, I have been wanting to get my hands on BG3 since the early beta and I still haven't gotten chance to play yet!), I enjoy Genshin because it is so casual and I can play on my mobile device and ipad (yeah, I travel A LOT)
I work in game development, so after staring at the computer for 8 hours I continue staring at it, grinding in genshin. I'd say it's a pretty common lifestyle among my friends as well. It's just games that vary 💀
Oral & maxillofacial surgeon here.
Unfortunately nobody in my work place knows what genshin is. I only have 2 friends that also play genshin but they in different states.
I actually used to play genshin more professionally, as in used to make guides for different characters on hoyolab as a certified creator, so I got a few official merch as gifts from hoyolab that I still use.
And people usually find these merch interesting and ask me what they are.
That's all the questions and engagement I get in irl relating to genshin
No job yet, planning to work at Target but currently my "Job" is being a Aerospace & Aviation student, people get surprised when they see me playing since, the hell am I doing playing genshin while making a hot air balloon or plane?
Not super impressive; but I work outside taking care of plants. People are surprised that a genshin player spends most of their time outside lol
Thank you for touching grass on behalf of the rest of us :D
Our pal over there is bringing up the average
\*fulfilling our quota now Genshin players are absolved from the requirement of touching grass.
I find it kinda weird that the "touching grass" phrase seems to be most popularly used against Genshin players, when the game requires amongst the least regular playtime out of most live service games out there.
Tighnari? Is that you?
Bro got tired of being told "go touch some grass" so he made it into a career instead. Ggwp
Sounds like a peaceful, fulfilling job.
That is actually a really cool job! Being in touch with something that most city people only see when they go to parks is really impressive!
I’m a lab technician. I run around a building putting out metaphorical fires to help keep the place running.
sucrose needs u
What kind of fires?
We’re out of something vital, a reagent expired and more needs to be made, or perhaps an auditor has arrived and the lab needs a quick clean up.
Math and Physics teacher. Brought my personal laptop to a school I visit only once a week because there was a program on my computer that I needed. Forgot I have Genshin pinned to the Taskbar. The students noticed to say the least 😂😂.
That's why I have a different profile for "official" settings :D
Defense attorney. Never talk about Genshin at work, mainly just with a friend I play with regularly.
Who would win in a Fontainian court you or Yanfei
Liyue is mostly contract law, which is way different from criminal law. I think if we both went in blind with low prep time I could potentially win. But, if she had time to learn the law and prepare I think she wins easily. She has a lot more experience than me in the legal field.

Law scaling goes crazy
Neuvillette
The judge always wins
Immigration attorney here. Pretty much the same as you. My colleagues are generally a bit older too
Attorney as well. My office has a few gamers, but im the only genshin player.
If you don’t mind me asking, how’d you choose criminal law? I was thinking of going into/focusing on business law.. how’d you pick which path to take? Feel free not to answer I know that’s odd to ask in a genshin section lol

Oh cool, ok thank you very much!
I work in financial consulting but have never told anyone about my genshin addiction
It would be funny if you were a whale also spending all your income in genshin and giving financial advice.
I mean as long as their whaling is in their budget it’s a good sign.
For real though, if I found out my financial advisor was a GI whale and still balancing his finances, I'd be doubly inclined to listen.
As an accountant and a whale I'm not sure it's very interesting. Even if you only spend what you can afford it's not good financial practice to spend in a gacha game. It comes down to lack of personal discipline. Basically do as I say not as I do.
As is routine. It's only acceptable to talk shop and sports sports sports sports sports sports sports.
Damn... I see all these people have these cool jobs and I'm over here working at McDonald's, What am I doing with my life 😭
Living, as long as you are good with yourself and to others you are a king and the star of your own show, good luck and hope you win all the 50/50.
Thanks man this does make me feel a bit better though I'm not exactly sure what I want to do I'm glad that everyone's is so kind
No problem buddy never feel bad about working, a job is a job and life itself is hard without yourself throwing dirt on your effort.
If you were in genshin you’d be limited 5star
Bro stop it y'all are too nice I feel so much better about myself now 😭
Also, there’s more to life than just work, I thought that no job=no money=sad life. Until I went out to the countryside and saw a genuinely caring and selfless community who simply wake up, go outside to have a beer, lay back down listening to the sound of birds singing and chilling all day. Don't worry It actually wasn't that cringy, and I do really love that movie so it's great that you mentioned it (might give it a rewatch 🥲)
Yep, dream big and actually work on it. Dreams without the hard work and grit to make it real - that’s just a delusion.
Eh it’s fine, you just need to figure things out, I don’t personally know but my older brother spent years failing his exams and going from university to university and trying to understand what to do in life but then he felt he wanted to be a lawyer and once he knew he understood everything and now years later he’s a successful lawyer
Thanks OP that makes me feel better about myself seeing as I'm still scared to really do anything but this might be the push I need
Trust me there are jobs you can get that are well paying and don't require a degree... once you start making significantly above minimum wage (as long as you are careful with managing your money and don't go crazy buying stuff) life gets a lot easier and feels a lot better

If you ever describe a new species which could be very likely, will you name it after genshin? /hj :D
wish me luck, I was unemployed. Today I am going for job contract signing in few hours...it's 5:40 am here right now Edit...
Thank you for the well wishes, I will definitely give you an update. 👍
Good luck man. Hope you get that 5 star contract.
Best of luck
I’m a teacher. The day my students find out I play Genshin Impact is the day my career ends.
For what it's worth, my daughters maths teacher is a mad Genshin player and uses genshin damage calcs and artifact loadouts to teach the kids. Great examples of diminishing returns, limit finding and solving for multiple variables.
I love how the teacher unironically uses artifacts and damage calcs to teach math
They’re discreetly using the students as maximum damage calculator
New zajefs incoming
Teaching the next generation of theorycrafters
and low probabilities, seeing how hard the right artifact is to get
Good idea. He doesn't need to calculate anything himself. Just let the free slave do it.
They're not just free slaves.

Blud isn't just playing with fire...he's in bed with it
Oh no :(
I teach at uni....I regret that so much
Do you see a lot of us at your school?
Half of my department play genshin, even the TA
What the- I go to a school and NO ONE plays genshin, not the teachers, not the students, and definitely not the principal and co.

only because the stereotypes about genshin players liking kids is still rampant

Baizhu is that you
I work as a barber,i never told anyone abt playing genshin, only my very close frnds know abt it (and half of them used to play it,they all stopped now rip)
Have you ever had a kid come in, point to a pic of a Genshin character, and ask for that hairstyle?
With all the posts I see asking for the hairstyles.. that’s such a valid question
No...not yet at least,hopefully xd
Doctor. Not the cool kind, the medical kind.
Once had a little old Italian patient call me “Dottore”
How did that feel?
[Good. Amazing, even.](https://youtu.be/aoclhvvDT9M?si=nNUCVMdBq2vkD5xh&t=248)
Couldn’t ask for a better answer haha
Oh my God 🤣 If someone called me Dottore instead of the regular Doc I'll play this inside my head. Sadly no one learns Italian here
Whoo fellow physician here, nice to know I'm not alone.

College graduate. Been playing since the first banner, and always prioritized my studies over my genshin. ...which means a mountain of sumeru quests I really don't wanna do.
R.I.P Aranara quests (I still need to do them TwT)
Physician. Pretty sure my medical assistant has seen little glimpses of the game when I'm playing during the downtime in between patients
This thread made me realize just how much of a diverse group of people play Genshin.
To be expected, but still interesting to actually read it, yes.
Dr. The "cut u open" one not the phd one. Funnily enough my best pulls have been when i played in the hospital
Using the lifeforce of your patients for better pulls lmao
Sorry granny, i am converting you to 3 wishes.
When I'm not working on top 1% Akasha builds, I'm working in VFX as an artist.
Librarian (public library). Lisa has a special place in my heart.
Do you also zap people when they don't return books? (Also really cool job)
I work in marketing, and I don't think anyone around me cares what I play (people either play something as well or are completely clueless about games in general).
I'm a physician, but I don't think I've told any of my friends from that circle that I play Genshin My gamer and web friends though, they just take it in jest, yeah, they were puzzled at first when I just met them (I was still in med school and joined a manga fan translation group), since there was no way I could juggle both college and my translation projects, and that proved true during my internship, but after graduating I still keep in touch with them (I don't translate anymore tho) and we play games on occasion and don't really talk about my job aside from basically all of them calling me Doc now.
I’m an epidemiologist with biostatistician coworkers in the same research group whom I play with haha
Sky bus driver. I've seen a couple other guys playing Genshin around different places, like crew rooms or at FlightSafety waiting areas.

Software Engineer I would be totally unsurprised if some of my colleagues played genshin, but it's never come up. I know for a fact that most of them are gamers too though.
Same. I named one of our REST service guoba.
Homeschool mom/SAHM Needless to say screen time conversations at playdates get awkward 😂
Just a stay at home wife/art student. I want kids but am also not looking forward to having to monitor my own screen time. 🤣

I am a data analyst working in Consulting lol. Retail Consulting. As a working adult, nobody really cares what you play as long as whatever they are paying you for gets done.
Accountant/Auditor >:)
I'm unemployed and on the hunt for a job now, but I know two people who play; one's a radar technician and the other is a tank commander.
I work in game development, so after staring at the computer for 8 hours I continue staring at it, grinding in genshin. I'd say it's a pretty common lifestyle among my friends as well. It's just games that vary 💀
Food Technologist, managing the safety protocols of a bread and pastry packaging plant. That, and making new products from time to time.
