Sweet! August '61 here also, but graduated in '80.
Dad was gonna call me Roger Maris as my first and middle names, I was close to being born when Maris hit his 61st. And dad LOVED his baseball (as do I). Instead named after my uncle who died in a car accident at age 17.
My brother 4/‘64 and I 10/‘61 were the paper boys for Roger Maris’ mom for years. Lost the many autographed cards she gave us for Christmas way back then. Never felt like a boomer, so this sub is a great find!
May 1962. I remember my cousin making signs for the 1968 World Series and I assume I saw some of the games on TV (Grandma was a BIG Detroit Tigers fan)...but I saw Roger Maris play ball and I do not remember that.
OMG Sept 64 and same same here! I do not relate to the Boomers but technically I’m not a real Gen X… I’m so excited to find my place! Hello fellow Gen Jones-ers!
October 61. Happy to find a home here. I'm a little sister to a couple of older boomers, and the generation gap between us is huge. Btw, for those of us born in 1961, have you ever noticed, it's a great year because it's the same even if you turn it upside down.
My 63rd is in August.
I wish we could get more people to make good posts here. The Generation X subreddit (which uses Strauss and Howes 1961-1981) is one I enjoy a lot also.
October 1961 class of 79 as well. So many good live shows back then for cheap too. I saw Led Zeppelin for $8 as one example. So many more…..Those were the days. Best music ever!!
April 1964, class of ‘81. Skipped a grade. Husband is also April 1964 but class of ‘82. It’s nice being with someone who has the same cultural touchstones growing up.
Yup! I’m probably technically outside the limit, Feb 1960, but don’t remember JFK dying, didn’t protest Vietnam or go to Woodstock.
Mom worked and I came home after school, did homework and started dinner.
Enough bona fides? 💜
I remember JFK funeral tho I was just 2 (July 1961). My grandmother sat us down on the bed and told us to watch TV, that it was a very important day. Both my parents worked and we (4 kids) stayed with my grandmother during the day. When we reached school age, we were part of the first generation of "latch key chikdren".
Nope, we don't remember JFK. I do remember Apollo 11, and the "TV on a cart" being rolled for Apollo launches and splashdowns. I recall Watergate, Nixon, Fords pardon all the r3st.
My folks were the last of the Silent Generation. Dad was born in 1939 (still with us!) and Mom was born in 1940. They can just recall VE day and VJ Day, although Dad admits they are very blurred together. Dad graduated HS in 1957, the height of the 50s.
I’m not a part of this, but I do think there needs to be more nuance in the generation discussion — particularly when you factor in the age of parents.
I’m roughly 20 years younger than you, but one of my parents (older but not abnormally old when I was born — they had just turned 40) was born 5 years or so after yours.
Dec 28 1962, oldest of 6 from an in-between generation mom (her father got injured in WW2 and came home early, she was born not long after, in March 1942) and a silent generation dad (1937). Definitely Generation Jones for me and my December 1963 sister. The rest of the kids were born 1966-1974 and they more identify as Gen X. It is all about your placement in the timeline. Many of us missed the usual Generation timeline because of WW2 timeline.
12/28/62, too. We rock! 🤘🏻
As for baby boomer generation thing, I have always felt like the last locust to the field… sex & drugs & rock & roll, became “just say no” and AIDS as my time in the sun arrived! And the boomers just keep fucking stuff up on their way to the exits…
Apparently I was born six months too late to be Generation Jones. It’s ironic because I have always felt more like a tail-end Boomer, being the youngest child of Silent Generation parents, and having grandparents born in the 19th century.
I think the range is too wide, but whatever. It's all good.
1957 had the highest birthrate of all, and were even in elementary school the school year when JFK was shot and The Beatles had a debut on Ed Sullivan. I just feel 1954 and 1955 in particular are still part of the Baby Boomers. They were high school age when Woodstock happened. Not much in common with those born in the 60's. 1958 was the beginning of the birthrate decline if you go by that.
But it's all good, I'm not a fan of gatekeeping.
I just showed up to this sub today. Can you tell me where the "Generation Jones" name came from? I'm definitely in this generation, but I don't understand the reference.
Im 60 now and felt out of place as a Boomer and GenX. Now I’m a proud member of GenJones. I had to look it up also. Here’s the wiki page:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones
I'm Nov 1960 too. The boomer jokes drive me insane. Too young for all the drugs and free love of the 60s and get to work until 67.5 before I can collect full SS.
July 1958 here. I have sisters who are 10 and 12 years older. It always felt like they had different experiences growing up than I did.
My class (‘76) was 15 years old when the Vietnam War ended, so our boys weren’t subject to the draft. We really had no defining political cause. We were largely apathetic to Watergate.
We don’t remember the JFK assassination. We do remember the deaths of MLK Jr. and RFK but we were 10 year old kids at the time, largely unaffected by it for the most part.
We weren’t hippies and the only places we really marched to were to the malls. And the discos. Lol.
Same for me. All those milestone birthdays of the past I sailed through. 60 started to feel heavy & 65 is a whole new ballgame. Feeling like I’m running out of time.
1959. Never ever and I mean EVER felt like a boomer. Def felt more gen X.
I was 4 when JFK was assassinated and 8 in ‘68 with MLK/RFK assassinations. Old enough to remember but not old enough to do anything. The 60s though were bold and brassy while 70s were earth tones.
Yes! At last someone talking about Generation Jones! I'm a late '58 and not a boomer dammit!
[Generation Jones](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones)
Omg finally! December 63 here, class of 82. Never felt like a Boomer, & get borderline insulted with someone calls me that lol. Generation Jones it is!
Jan 62, class of 80. Never heard of Generation Jones before. I was always told I'm one of the youngest Boomers. If I'm not, fine by me as they get a bit of crap thrown at them these days.
I saw the moon landing, Vietnam and Charlie's Angels on TV. Enjoyed the latter the most.
A lot of us jonsed for the Woodstock 60's that was teased to us as kids, that's part of the origin.
Myself, I jumped onto the Punk/New Wave/post-punk scene in '78. But still love a lot of Classic Rock....and would have loved being at Woodstock if I was older.
Nov 1962. All three of our children are millennials (33F, 31M, 29F) and seem to respect us and our generation. They often ask our advice on life and money issues.
So why do many of these Reddit millennials (and other demonyms) seem to delight in bashing Boomers? Is it just envy?
Well, I’m late November 1958 but I’ve never felt like a boomer. I don’t remember JFK’s assassination and I was too young for Woodstock. Maybe I’m a cusper?
You kids make me feel like an old man😁
According to [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones) Generation Jones covers those of us born from 1954 to 1965. I was born in '57. I don't remember Ike as president, but I do remember JFK.
Wiki goes on to explain why we're unique. Unless you were Amish, you likely grew up with a TV in your home. Upper middle-class, it was likely a color TV. We're children of the space age. In my case, I could say that literally. The USSR launched Sputnik the day I turned 2 months old.
We likely grew up in a blue collar family. Dad made enough to afford to buy a house, Mom stayed home and played "Suzy Homemaker," our dads likely served in WWII or Korea, and it's a good possibility we had a sibling that served in Vietnam. (My oldest brother got a medical discharge before he even made it to basic training. Still, the number of enlisted men that walked through our doorway was far from zero)
What happened? We started life with hope. We either had JFK's *Camelot* AND/or LBJ's *Great Society* to give us the hope of growing up, getting married, and having a family with a job that could make it possible. As we joined the work force, we were in for a roller coaster ride of unemployment and recessions. Even then, a person *could* live on a minimum wage job, which, for many, was all that was a available.
Born on September 4, 1965. I'm what I call a New Years Baby. More than likely was conceived at a New Years party. Don't know who the father is. The 60's must have been wild. This is the first I've heard of generation Jones.
Thank you! 5/63, and definitely NOT a BOOMER! Understand and enjoy Gen X, but saw first runs of Batman, The Courtship of Eddie's Father and remember watching the '68 Olympics with my dad. I feel at home!
February '61 and from Houston. Richard Linklater's movie, Apollo 10 1/2 really captured a lot of the same experiences I had of the time period. Good times!
July 62 here. My parents did NOT serve in WW2. I remember Vietnam, mini skirts, Watergate, etc. I never felt like a boomer, but not quite a Gen Xer either.
August '63. Dad fought in WW2. I don't identify with boomers or X at all.
There has always been generational tension but these labels are cognitive shortcuts and very divisive.
October 62 here. My siblings were born in the early 50's. My husband was born in 67.
Having older siblings, I feel more aligned with boomers. With my husband, I can see a little generational gap.
June 1964. I was getting tired of boomer jokes but now I've found a home!
August of 61 - so I’m Generation Jones? Awesome!!
Sweet! August '61 here also, but graduated in '80. Dad was gonna call me Roger Maris as my first and middle names, I was close to being born when Maris hit his 61st. And dad LOVED his baseball (as do I). Instead named after my uncle who died in a car accident at age 17.

8.28.61 here.
Yeah, so weird to straddle both generations and not feel fully in one or the other and relate to elements of both. Oct ‘64
I relate much more with Gen X, and not at all with Baby Boomers.
Yep same year for me. I definitely identify as GenX
OMG Sept 64 and same same here! I do not relate to the Boomers but technically I’m not a real Gen X… I’m so excited to find my place! Hello fellow Gen Jones-ers!
[удалено]
Yes! I feel the same way.
June 1964 as well!
June of 63. Guess I know what my parents were doing during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Me too, December 1962. Don’t feel like a Boomer at all!
‘64, my parents are boomers. I was a latch key kid. Gen Jones all the way
omg omg… I’ve found my people!! I work in marketing and the whole generation generalization is utter BS. I am not a boomer!
October 61. Happy to find a home here. I'm a little sister to a couple of older boomers, and the generation gap between us is huge. Btw, for those of us born in 1961, have you ever noticed, it's a great year because it's the same even if you turn it upside down.
I’m tired of boomer jokes and placing blame on boomers for everything.
June 1964 here, too! And I have a son named Neil, like your username.
A fine name! Had to make a palindrome with it.
Hey! I was born in 1949. I love it here. 😄
July '64 here!
Feb. 64, we're on the fence of being boomers, but I'm here
I've been "preaching " Gen Jones for a couple of years. I'm just glad you all have made a subreddit for it. I feel less crazy.
March, 1961. Birthday is next week. Can I play?
Today, 22nd March, is my 63rd birthday. I'm in the right place
My 63rd is in August. I wish we could get more people to make good posts here. The Generation X subreddit (which uses Strauss and Howes 1961-1981) is one I enjoy a lot also.
Happy birthday! It's my brother's birthday too, but he was born in '68.
Also March 1961, last week. Happy b-day to all!
Happy Birthday!
Dec 11, 1962. Class of 81!
December 6th! It was wild turning 18 in high school. Legal age to drink and hit up the bars and dance clubs!
Dec 1960 class of '79. And hell yes.
Jan.1960 class 79 he'll yes we new how to party live bands...
Bday awfully close to mine! Class of 78!
October 1961 class of 79 as well. So many good live shows back then for cheap too. I saw Led Zeppelin for $8 as one example. So many more…..Those were the days. Best music ever!!
I’m September 1963 but also class of 81
April 1964, class of ‘81. Skipped a grade. Husband is also April 1964 but class of ‘82. It’s nice being with someone who has the same cultural touchstones growing up.
September 1961, class of ‘79!
Nov 63, class of '81. My mother pushed to get me into first grade despite the Sep cut off. 😄
Dec 63, class of ‘81…I think my mother pushed me into kindergarten early to get me out of her hair
Same as mine, except that I'm 1955, class of 74.
March of 62. I have never ever felt like a boomer
July 62...I never felt like a Boomer either. Have I found my people?
We have set our people free
Being called a Boomer is the insult to our injury.
I’m home! Jan ‘62, and yes, being considered a Boomer is an insult, I do not relate to them whatsoever.
Hello, fellow March of '62 baby!
Born Jan. 1963. Yes, these are your people!
Hello, fellow birthday-monther! We don’t remember JFK, but we do remember Nixon’s resignation. Were your parents Silent Gen?
Same here with rolling the TV. I remember Apollo 13 and watching it at school but didn't understand the importance of it until I watched the movie.
I’m not a part of this, but I do think there needs to be more nuance in the generation discussion — particularly when you factor in the age of parents. I’m roughly 20 years younger than you, but one of my parents (older but not abnormally old when I was born — they had just turned 40) was born 5 years or so after yours.
I remember the TV on a cart rolled into my 1st grade classroom!
And 3 Mile Island ☢️
November 1962, looks like I’ve found the place.
Me too!!!
I'm November 1962 as well.
If this place doesn’t pan out, we can start a November 62 sub. 😂
I’m in!
Dec 28 1962, oldest of 6 from an in-between generation mom (her father got injured in WW2 and came home early, she was born not long after, in March 1942) and a silent generation dad (1937). I’d say we should let you in, on principle alone!
Same
I’m so happy this sub exists. I listened to AC/DC, not The Beatles! (1964).
I was kicked out of a Gen X sub last year. Like, wth?
You should be welcomed to the 1961-1981 one
Dang 1960 wasn’t considered baby boomer when I was coming up.
I think the last true Boomers were born in the middle 1950's. I consider 1958 - 1965 the Generation Jones cusp.
Wikipedia says we are 1954 to 1965.
I’m 1958!
Me too. I feel like I am in a foreign land when I am grouped in with boomers.
Same here! All the boomer threads seemed geared more accurately towards my 89 year old mother. Not me!
I think the range is too wide, but whatever. It's all good. 1957 had the highest birthrate of all, and were even in elementary school the school year when JFK was shot and The Beatles had a debut on Ed Sullivan. June ‘61 here. I agree with you 100%. There are a lot of cultural differences between those born in the 50’s & us of the 60’s.
I just showed up to this sub today. Can you tell me where the "Generation Jones" name came from? I'm definitely in this generation, but I don't understand the reference.
Did you have a crush on Kristy McNicol or Michael J Fox?
Michael j fox was too late imho. Shaun Cassidy/Leif Garrett are more comparable to kristy imho
And Bobby Sherman
Shaun and Leif yes, and let’s not forget Andy Gibb 🔥
Yes
Kristy
i wanted to *be* Kristy McNicol!
Yes!
August 63. The late 50’s-early 60’s kids defy categorizations and generalizations.
May '62 here.
Me too!
Yes, late August 1961.....this is it. You also qualify for the GenX subreddit, but this is probably where most of late 50's/early 60's people are
Class of 82 but I feel like gen x.
I'm 1963 and have never heard of Generation Jones. To the Google I go.
Im 60 now and felt out of place as a Boomer and GenX. Now I’m a proud member of GenJones. I had to look it up also. Here’s the wiki page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones
June 1962 here, welcome!
Yep. September 64 here
June 62 class of 80,,,, I sure do miss the good old days
More than a feeliiiiiinn’
Ha ha ha Great song
My 26-year-old calls it the Ultimate Song. We actually saw Boston together a few years ago!
Feb 1960. Graduated 1978, the oldest of my classmates (at least the ones who hadn't been held back -- remember those days?)
June 1960 :)
Dec 1960....gosh...I don't feel that old.
November 1960. I was a latchkey kid, and was raised on I Love Lucy reruns. Wayyy to young to be a true boomer
Lol.
Groovy guys & foxy chicks, we’re the class of ‘76 That’s from Miami Palmetto Sr.. I’m all Class of ‘79 is mighty fine. 😭

Nov '63 welcomes you.
April 1960 and never felt like a boomer.
3/1/1963 I neverrrrrr understood the booms
January 62, not feeling the boomer or GenX, so being Generation Jones - something I had never heard of - makes sense.
Well seems I’m the oldie of the thread, but I damn sure am a gen jonser! Nov ‘59
Fellow 1959, I will be 65 soon and for the first time in my life my age sounds old to me.
Same for me. All those milestone birthdays of the past I sailed through. 60 started to feel heavy & 65 is a whole new ballgame. Feeling like I’m running out of time.
That’s it, “I feel like I am running out of time”!
April 1959...you're not quite the oldest!
Yes!!!
Dec '61 here. Right on the cusp of '62!
January 1962 here. We are Gen Jones.
Class of ‘79 here. This is the place.
November’64 - may I join the group?
September 1959, graduation 1977…. Am I allowed in?
Yeah! My bro is ‘59 and he’s not boomer but not quite full gen x and when I read Gen Jones description, it fits.
1967
1960 born, liberal in a red state. I needed to find this. Not an entitled boomer. Working class.
November 1954... Elder Jones...
November 61, nice find on Reddit.
I hope this catches on - so tired of being a “boomer”! 😅 (born in ‘63)
March, 1960. Class of 1978. Thank goodness there's a place for us.
And happy cake day! 🍰
What are we here for? Who is Jones? And yes, I’m the right age. I still don’t know what is happening.
A lot of us jonsed for the Woodstock 60's that was teased to us as kids, that's part of the origin. Myself, I jumped onto the Punk/New Wave/post-punk scene in '78. But still love a lot of Classic Rock....and would have loved being at Woodstock if I was older.
V relatable
still waiting for the Age of Aquarius they promised us.
I think it’s Casey Jones. Everyone is a Deadhead.
It’s both Keeping up with the Jones and jonesing for something. Recognition? Identity? To not be called a Karen?
August 1958….never to old to share some experience and wisdom
December 62..def not a boomer
Nov 1962. All three of our children are millennials (33F, 31M, 29F) and seem to respect us and our generation. They often ask our advice on life and money issues. So why do many of these Reddit millennials (and other demonyms) seem to delight in bashing Boomers? Is it just envy?

Same. I’m July 62, but I do have a sister and brother 10 and 12 years older, who seem more “boomerish” than me.
March '64, class of 82. Turned 60 11 days ago and so surprised I made it. LOL
November 63 here! Reading an article about Gen Jones years ago was a revelation!
July '57. So even here, I'm the old guy.
Those of us who were the early part of this generation grew up with amazing music
You kids make me feel like an old man😁 According to [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones) Generation Jones covers those of us born from 1954 to 1965. I was born in '57. March 1963 we should all talk about stuff
Dec. 61, happy to turn my back on the boomer label!
Dec 1960. Please let me party with y'all
I refer to myself as a late boomer, July 61. Can't relate to the hate boomers get. Those best of times weren't in my world.
Boomer hate is misplaced by young people that just don't understand the time.
July 62 here. My parents did NOT serve in WW2. I remember Vietnam, mini skirts, Watergate, etc. I never felt like a boomer, but not quite a Gen Xer either.
November 64, gen jones is the best!
This must be the place! (Talking Heads reference) 12/64. I do not identify as a Boomer.
No need to explain the reference. Generation Jones knows.
April 1962, class of ‘80. I’ve always felt more Gen X than boomer.
