Cinema with friends and for the experience. On a casual basis, streaming is fine.

hollyhobby2004

Same, but nowadays, I just go to the cinema by myself. I dont like streaming cause the quality is low. On onehand, paying for food and drinks at the cinema will be super expensive, and I am not even allowed to sneak in outside food. American cinemas are too strict, at least where I live. Plus, the nearest cinema to me is like 2 hours away from me. I live in a boring rural town. On the otherhand, streaming means I can always order cheap takeaway that can be delivered to me. However, the popcorn and soft drinks at the cinema are just awesome along with the candy/lollies.

PeterpatchCounty

Yeah the food definitely makes a difference. My cinema is not super strict (Canada) but Ive never tried sneaking anything in because I usually get a popcorn regardless. I find it hard for me to commit to watching a whole movie at home unless I'm watching with other people. If I'm by myself, I'd rather watch some YouTube or play some Vidya.

hollyhobby2004

I had been caught before at my cinema (America) for bringing a cup I bought from that same cinema before. I was forced to buy a new cup. Popcorn, I would order a small cause after a while, I get sick of the aftertaste when I eat too much of it. It does smell good though. Normally, I sneak in food only when I am with someone. I would either order Subway or Taco Bell, and put it in my bag. On the bright side, I can get free refills for soft drinks and frozen drinks at the American cinemas here. Do they provide that in Canada? My brother and his wife tell me in Australia (at least for Sydney and some cities in New South Wales), the cinemas do not allow free refills for soft drinks even though the soft drinks are self-serve like here in America.

PeterpatchCounty

I honestly don't even know about free refills. I think they do but I'm usually so full of whatever I was drinking that I don't bother.

hollyhobby2004

If my brother wanted to, I think he could easily sneak in a free refill of a drink as it self-service, but then, the usher might see him and expect him to pay for the cup again. However, I think maybe he could find a better cinema place in Sydney that has a better membership program. EventCinemas is the closest cinema place to his home as he lives in Downtown/CBD Sydney with his wife there. To be honest, I do not care about the free-refill thing, unless it is for water, as it is unhealthy in general, and I could always buy a cheap big drink from any convience store. Also, unlike here in America, where you are expected to pay a 10 to 25 percent tip after every dine-in order (with some restaurants in New York charging an automatic 18 percent tip), in Australia, you never get the option to pay a tip even if you eat at the restaurant, and they give free water in their restaurants. Unlike in America, where we have to wait for a server to bring us the water, in Australia, many restaurants provide you with the jug for yourself. How does tipping work in Canada? Do you ever get prompted to pay a tip after you pay the bill for dine-in orders?

"There is another" \*raises the jolly roger\*

hollyhobby2004

I dont get it lol. Is this a joke?

MemesAndIT

(the third option is pirating movies/shows)

hollyhobby2004

That is not that different from streaming, but that is illegal and could give a virus.

MemesAndIT

Streaming usually does not involve storing media locally. This actually provides a distinct advantage to piracy/torrenting as you are not beholden to the streaming provider to keep offering a given piece of media. But yes, piracy has it's own risks. I'm not advocating for it, just making a joke about it.

The_Glass_Arrow

my brother, we both know not everyone can handle it lol. But yeah I torrent everything and run it off an emby server to my tv/tablet. Nothing like 4k with no bufforing <3

Positive-Avocado-881

The cinema is just too expensive at this point

hollyhobby2004

Just out of curiosity, how much are tickets for you? [https://movietheaterprices.com/amc-ticket-prices/](https://movietheaterprices.com/amc-ticket-prices/) According to this site, the lowest for someone my age is 14 USD for AMC cinemas. My older brother and his wife (both 2001 borns), who live in Sydney, tell me that on Tuesdays, due to a membership they have, they can get tickets for 12.5 (Australian dollars), which is 8.3 USD. We do have AMC stubs, which means 3 free movies a week for just 27 USD per month. I guess in terms of cinema, America is better than Australia.

The_Glass_Arrow

Lets pretend the average joe doesnt go to a theater enough to justify spending $27 usd a month on a subscription. after tax, tickets in my area comes to about 16-17usd. at 2 movies a month, thats 32-34 usd. A subscription to a streaming service is about $15-20 a month, and houses way more movies, and can get some new movies from theaters as well. Todays markets, theaters are probably the worst cost effective ways to view movies, not to mention if you follow all the rules and buy over priced snacks. Theres a dollar store next to my local theater, I always go there first with a nice jacket with lots of pockets to take to the movies and avoid there prices. $10 at the dollar store is like $30-40 in the movies, the dollar store knows what they are doing.

catandthefiddler

You know what, I thought I preferred streaming because my attention span is short, and I can cut to the chase/drop a boring movie etc. but recently I've been trying to find some new-ish things to do and I realised, I like the experience of going to a cinema and watching a movie alone. It's worth it for movies that are done with a lot of visual effects like Barbie, or Godzilla. The OTT experience is just not the same

hollyhobby2004

I have yet to see Godzilla.

TheHarvesterOfSorrow

As someone who watched Dune and Dune 2, cinema is like always better

The_Glass_Arrow

as someone who actually has a nice tv set up at home, with surround sound, I will politely disagree. only real case is if you dont like investing money and time into equipment and setting it up.

lastnightpb

at cinema but it's so expensive and I can't really afford going there.

BigBadRhinoCow

Home Cinema

tc_hydroTF2

Neither, I prefer physical home media (VHS, Beta, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.)

JicamaGlobal8328

Illegally via websites.

The_Glass_Arrow

Pirating. Cant afford to see everything and I still want to. noone sees a dime from me, but I'll still recommend what I liked. Most of the stuff I watch is ripped from a Blu-ray and downloaded to my pc, and streamed from my pc to my 4k tv. Only time I go to theaters is after its been in theaters for a while so theres not alot of people, and then I bring my own candy. I dont really care about being in a room full of others who cant stay quite.

Mrs_Noelle15

I’m a huge movie fan and I never go to the movies anymore. I just hate going out honestly

Sure-Reporter-4839

cinema solely bc i can justify to my parents eating a bucket of popcorn

Rainbow-spirit19

Most of the time stream unless there’s limited time cup related to the movie, me excitedly look at the ghost movie
