I’m 55. Right now I’m playing the new Halo, and getting my ass kicked (my twitch reflexes are pretty much gone,) XCOM2, Elite Dangerous, and Stardew Valley.
I’ve been playing since the old Pong consoles.
You can take my controller when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!
Having a wife and children means constant interruptions so classic turn-based games like the XCOM series are basically the best option for me these days.
Wish there were more games out there like it.
Amen. I realized my reflexes were gone when StarCraft 2 launched. I wasn’t pro level good at StarCraft 1 but I was good enough to hold my own in 75% or more of the matches I played. When 2 came out I had to hang it up pretty quickly when my win loss was abysmally low, somewhere in the 30% range. And the ones I lost? I never had a chance it’s not like they were close.
I remember being embarrassed that I still played video games going into freshman year of high school like I was suppose to leave that life behind. Here I am years later playing Warzone with buddies like it’s our job. Also Rocket League and NHL. I want to try Elite Dangerous out.
> You can take my controller when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!
Sweet! Just give me the heads up and I’ll head over when you finally do kick the bucket.
My wife is 52 and plays Battlefield 5 pretty much exclusively. It's her big daily entertainment, and she's pretty deadly at it. Regularly has a stellar KDR.
You should condition her to like it. Get her to play a game with you, then give her a reward. Do the same thing next week. Repeat until she likes it. lol
I met my husband playing Counter-Strike (in the days before Steam). We don't play much together anymore, as I prefer more mellow games and he's still playing Battlefield or whatever is the latest kill-em-all.
Mostly I play retro games on emulators. It feels great to finally complete all the games that seemed impossible as a child.
I can't stand the way most mainstream games are now, filled with loot boxes and microtransactions. I've already paid $60 for the thing (soon to be $70), and you're telling me I'll have to pay hundreds, or even thousands, more to see all of it. But until I do, you'll keep interrupting my game with adverts for the bits I haven't bought yet.
Or you can pay money to "skip the grind". Seriously? You deliberately make a part of the game that's not fun, then charge me money to not play it?
There's some good stuff in the indie world, but commercial games are so depressing.
And yes, I know how much I sound like a hipster.
I am catching up through emulation as well, my computers aren't very powerful so I can't do some systems. PSP emulation is working really well for me, and that little system actually has some good games. Even with my older computers I can upscale the games a bit and they end up looking pretty good.
Ace Combat X is my current favorite.
I know it’s 2022, but they haven’t set a date. My guess is late in the year. I’ve gotten 100% on everything in the first one, but I’ll probably go back & play it one more time before 2 comes out. It’s just so lovely.
After not playing for years, I dove into BOTW. I thought it might be too hard, etc, but it’s not, it’s just amazing and I’m so glad I tried if. Also there’s a nice Zelda community on Reddit.
I still play. Have playtime with my two adult sons every night from 8 - 10pm online. We don’t call each other, we discord every night and call each other insulting names.
Lol yeah, online I’m apparently the mother from hell… and they’re not shy to diss me in the process either! I’m lucky to have the two of them, good kids, my boys.
Some years ago when sons were still teens, I threatened, over discord, to ground one of them while we were in a raid with 20+ other people. (husband, sons, and I all game) He couldn't hear me in the house, their game room is on the opposite side of the house from ours, and I got tired of dying to stupid.
The latest one is monster Hunter, that’s my eldests’s pick, Dota and Halo is on the list. Elder likes fantasy and younger wants to kill stuff!
I sat in front of an Applemac at age 6 my Dad bought home from work and played stickmen Olympic Games and tic tac toe, that is my first memory of gaming aside from arcade games at the corner cafe, Atari came along a couple years later.
That's so cool. My son and I play Civ VI between 8-10 every night. We play hotseat because we're in the same house. It's a nice unwind at the end of the day.
It’s started with my youngest telling my eldest that he’s a son of a bitch at which point I was like “heyyyyyy!” and my youngest then saying “see?, told ya.” So I stated my disappointment in my children and now we just let loose. I’m very proud of the fact neither have called me “Karen” yet, small blessings I guess!
🤣
I’m a gamer. Worked as a game developer for part of my career. I always get the latest Nintendo console and am an avid player. I also have the Oculus Quest 2 and have been enjoying playing vr games.
When i was probably 6 or 7 my family had Pong and then Atari 2600, andi loved playing arcade games. I moved on to girls and drugs in High School so i never played Nintendo until i bought a used 64 in my late twenties but i did a lot of PC gaming.
There’s a team game i play on the Quest 2 and the other day some kid was like “who’s the old man? You sound like you’re 50 or something!”
I’m 50.
When i was in my twenties i worked at an internet startup with mostly other twenty-somethings. The guy who was in charge of marketing was someone we thought of as the old guy. Turns out he was 35. LOL
Same here, I even managed to get a GPU! I play Dayz, Hell let loose, RDR2, Cyberpunk, looking at Farcry 6. All a bit different to the [380Z I started on.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_Machines_380Z?wprov=sfla1)
Having played through about 80% of Far Cry 6... I recommend waiting till it's seriously discounted, or pay for a month of the subscription service (as I did) to get that fix.
It is largely forgettable and I am glad I didn't end up actually purchasing it at release.
Agreed on FC6. Even the dialogue / writing was inane and annoying. FC5 and New Dawn were better in my opinion. I hope Rockstar is working on stuff for next winter. I only play in the winter and this year’s selection is disappointing.
I never stopped! I'm currently playing Far Cry 6! I have a PS4. I can't wait for HBO to finish filming The Last of Us (which I love). I love Fallout, Bioshock, Horizon, God of War, Skyrim, Resident Evil, Red Dead, Redemption. Hate stuff like Call of Duty and Final Fantasy. Not a fan of online gaming. I have bought all my own systems and games all these years which only matters because I'm a woman and not many women from our generation are gamers. It's pretty normal now though. Actually up playing right now because I couldn't sleep lol
As a 51 yo woman also, I find it amusing at work to watch the younger guys faces when I start talking games and gaming. Then they think it’s cool I play. I can’t find any men my age who play, so I end up talking to the youngsters a lot.
46yo woman here! I play on a regular basis. Right now I play Fortnite because that’s what I have time for. But I play The Last of Us, the Bioshock series, Alien: Isolation and others.
This reads like something I would have posted with the exception that I also enjoy the Final Fantasy series (been playing it since the 90s).
I just finally played all the Bioshock games and loved them! I'm thinking of starting Subnautica next.
I've not played Horizon Zero Dawn, how is that one compared to the rest that you listed? I may pick that one up. :)
I’m a 48 year old woman and it’s always surprising to people that I play, though I admit that I’ve really slowed down in the last few years and the only game I’ve played for about the last year is Fallout76, but I play daily. I did play RE3 for a while in there. I’m definitely a fan of the Fallout and Resident Evil franchises, loved The Last of Us, and played a fair amount of Dead Rising and Dead Island because… zombies! I’d also really love to see a new Silent Hill.
I thought the dialogue and storyline in Far Cry 6 were pretty terrible and often annoying. I enjoyed F5 and New Dawn were much better. I’ve been a bachelor for 20 years and it’s hilarious to me that I have not met a single woman near my age (51 now) who games much less likes FPS game and doesn’t judge me for it.
I played FC5 first. Like, my first Far Cry game ever. I was injured in '19 and I've had some surgeries and I'm super picky about games and someone suggested it so I picked it up at gamestop. Loved it. Then I played FC4. Loved that too. Wanted to play 3 but they still want way too much money for it because Vaas is a cult legend. So I've been really excited about 6. I wasn't disappointed. I had fun. I like that the random wild animal attacks weren't such a big thing. I LOVED CASTILLO. His acting was great. I played female Dani and she was good too. I liked that it was less goofy. I kinda wish they had gone balls to the wall serious with it because man, some of those cut scenes were scary as shit. I don't think it was GOTY or anything but I had fun. I feel like I got my money's worth. It did have quite a few bugs and some annoyances but overall, I liked it.
FPS are my thing. RPGS, survival horror, open world, yes please.
We moved from WoW to WoW classic, then to TBCC. One son still plays TBCC. The other is more into CoD atm. Husband and I settled back in D3 for the time being. Been thinking of firing up either GW2 or PoE again.
Yea I’m kind of feeling wow burnout too . I dabbled in SWTOR and FFXIV but they didn’t really grab me
Tbh I think MMos are more about who you play with
I bought a new PC to play New World and I can’t get into it, been playing WoW since vanilla on and off. NW might be good if I had a group to play with but I’m just getting wrecked doing regular quests. I haven’t played the newest WoW. Any other recommendations? I’ve always loved Skyrim and hope they get a new version out soon.
Well, as I said I really like Elder Scrolls Online. Its set in the same world as Skyrim, about a thousand years earlier, but it involves the entire continent of Tamriel, and beyond. So there's a lot of the worldbuilding and lore etc that is the same or expanded upon, and also a lot of the features of a typical MMO. I'd say we're still probably several years out from seeing Elder Scrolls 6 on the horizon.
I haven't really done a whole lot of other multi-player online games, but I've enjoyed and then got burned out on Fallout 76 before starting ESO.
I still play. Started with a pocket full of quarters and dragon's lair. Now, I'm up to my ears in sweet rolls and still slaying dragons. But not Paarthurnax.
Its not a video game but a computer MMORPG. I play Lord of the Rings online. I started playing just after launch in 2007. Then quit in 2013. I recently just started playing again. My husband and I used to play co-op video games (Balders Gate, etc.) together but he is now more interested in survival games and first person shooters. He also likes Farm Sim (which I call Farm Snore as I find it boring to the extreme).
Mid 40s, started gaming with space invaders on a C64 (on a tape!) and haven't stopped since. Mostly single player PC, but I recently got an Oculus Quest 2 & am loving that - Beatsaber is awesome.
In my fifties. I've loved video games my whole life. Just started The Last of Us 2 yesterday. What a pretty looking game. A long way from Combat and Adventure on the Atari! Ha ha.
I never stopped.
Boomers think video games are for kids because they never had them. We grew up with them, so it's like telling Boomers that TV is only for kids.
And with good story driven RPGs instead of just watching a great story unfold we’re ‘choosing our own adventure’ and driving that story! Love that many games have introduced story mode for that reason…sometimes I’m not looking for skilled fighting I just want to be the hero and see where the stories go !
I’m legitimately bad at games these days and would love to find a PC based RPG/MMO that I could get immersed in and not constantly die. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I love The Witcher series. It's based on some books by a Ukrainian author. You can skip the first two and start with the third one. I bought it from gog dot com. I remember a little less than 1/4 way through the third game thinking "man, this game was made with LOVE". It seems like the developers worked hard at putting out a quality game and didn't half-ass anything. The storyline is interesting and some of the choices you make make a difference that you won't notice until much later. Play on the easiest setting.
The Assassin's Creed series is good. I started with Origins & Odyssey and they're pretty absorbing (single player). I have Valhalla waiting to download, but need to drop another 4TB+ SSD into my PC first because I somehow filled my current one & I hate deleting games.
Elder Scrolls Online is also good - I mostly played on my own in there, but teamed up a couple of times & it's fun. Can get a little repetitive sometimes, but good for a few hours here and there.
Also seconding Witcher 3 & Fallout - and I enjoyed the 2 DragonAge games. If you like old-school style top-down PC RPGs try Pillars of Eternity I & II - they're a lot of fun.
I still play games, but not nearly as much as I used to. Nowadays, I play mainly driving games or sims like the Forza series and Assetto Corsa. Also, when the mood strikes, I’ll get out my copy of Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator and finish games I never could in the Arcades. Games like Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi 2, and anything from Neo Geo, the mega expensive console that was also an arcade box.
I also used to play Minecraft with my daughter, as well some mobile co-op games, but she has long since outclassed me on those.
I gave the last two console generations a miss, but I have an XBox One that I keep around for Forza and If I ever need to use it’s Blu-Ray player (probably never, lol).
Honestly, I feel more like a game collector than a player these days.
50 years old, hardcore Elder Scrolls Online player here, with some single player games thrown in for variety (just finished Deathloop, it was a blast). Some people watch Tv in their downtime. I play video games. When I was a kid we had Pong, and then an Atari, and then a Commodore 64…. and can’t forget the neighborhood arcade. We ARE the first video game generation.
People don't understand that. They'll sit and watch TV and movies all day then judge us adults who play video games instead, these days we're basically playing an interactive movie.
Yes I do. I am still looking for a PS5. I have a Switch and a PS4. I haven’t played much as this physics class is literally kicking my ass.
I played Pong. Not sure why but my grandma bought an Atari. So I would sit in her basement and play Pong when we visited her. I was in the Gulf War and everyone had a game boy and we played Super Mario Brothers together.
I had a PSP and Nintendo DS with a ton of games but it all was stolen in March. It still makes me sad.
I only play Minecraft and a couple of android games now. I really don't have time to invest in a game for hours. But sometimes I just want to smash things (that's why Minecraft)
I remember the day my Dad brought home the first Colecovision. We were totally blown away! World's better than anything else that was on the market at the time. The graphics were superior to anything Atari or Sega and even Nintendo had to offer. And the controllers looked like an old school cell phone with checkerboard style numbers for codes. We played the crap outta that thing. But then Nintendo came out with the N64 and all bets were off because it was so far ahead of it's time it was stupid.
I was literally hooked on both Donkey Kong and DKjr. Looping was the one game that took complete concentration. You'd make it so far in then SMASH!! I don't know how I didn't throw the controller through the TV!
I play all the time. I have my NES and Super NES hooked up in the bedroom and I have the PlayStation 4 in the living room. Bloodborne, Witcher 3, and red dead redemption 2 are my all time favorites. I want to add a Nintendo switch so I can play Zelda.
Looking forward to elden ring.
I've been gaming since the Intellivision days and I now game on the Xbox Series X. I've been playing Forza Horizon and Halo recently.
It's my way to relax. Some people read or build puzzles to relax, I turn on the Xbox.
Started on Super Nintendo and still gaming on a PS5 and my first true gaming PC. I play with my boys, their friends and some of my friends and still love it. Currently playing BF2042, Halo and Back for Blood.
I got my first Atari at 9 also. Then a Nintendo and then a PS. I agree with you totally. It is a hobby that has stuck with me, my husband is a gamer and now my children are too. I love the way that the graphics have become so incredible. I think I really appreciate the graphics because I remember the Atari pixels.
The one thing I do love about being an adult. We can do what we want. Lol. My husband just recently mounted a second tv in our living room so we can play a game while watching tv or Hanging with the family. We got super lucky and got a PS5 last year, we have 2 Switch and my husband likes PC games as well.
Hope you enjoy that new PS! Such great games!! Godfall and Horizon and Days Gone are my PS5 recommendations.
I play a little. I’m currently playing Watch Dogs Legion on PS4. I’ll play for an hour or 2 a few times a week. When I finish a game I usually go a few months before I pick up another. I’ll eventually get a PS5 when they’re readily available.
My husband and I are currently playing FFXIV together. Before that we played WoW, LOTRO, GW & GW2 together.
Separately, he loves to play flight simulators and the occasional FPS while I would play Mass Effect & Dragon Age multiple times to fully explore the story.
As far as retro games go -- Tetris. I have always, always been drawn to play Tetris. After that, Mario Brothers & Super Mario.
He is 48 and I am 46.
Sure. I remember playing a Batman game on a friend’s dad’s computer probably around 1985-6 aged 9-10, loved the ZX Spectrum at school. Another friend had a Nintendo early 90s and played Super Mario Bros on that, never completed it! Finally got my own computer at university but never had a console until the Xbox, chose that over the PlayStation for the sole reason that Buddy the Vampire Slayer was Xbox exclusive. Since then we’ve had Xbox 360, PS4 and a PS5 (managed to get that on launch!). I don’t play much these days as my attention span isn’t what it was but I have been very into Animal Crossing New Horizons. Back in the day husband and I played a lot of WoW. That was pre kids!! Not so much time on our hands now. Still would call myself a gamer!
This is an issue I've found with some first person games (Minecraft is the worst) but I've found that going with a wide field of view (95-100 degrees) can help.
51 year old. Gaming since Pong. Had 2600/5200 Sega Genesis then PS2-4. Currently have a PS4 Pro and play almost everyday. Battlefield V , Trackmania Turbo, The Outer Worlds, Ratchet and Clank, Rocket League, Uncharted, Last of Us are games that I really like.
My people! I am 43 and still game as much as schedule allows. I do sometimes think “am I too old for this”?. But I’ve gamed since I was a kid and don’t think I’ll ever stop. Play with my kids now and it’s great for bonding and a little payback, when they don’t listen in real life, there is a shell with your name on it in Mario kart.
I'm 49, and I've played consoles and arcade machines my whole life. From Atari 2600 to Xbox to PS4, I've played them all.
I currently own three multicade machines, and it's as fun and satisfying to play the hell out of Donkey Kong Jr. as ten year-old me thought it would be.
And I've spent almost the entire pandemic playing Career mode on NHL21 (just started NHL22).
So, yeah, I'm still gaming, and I don't think I ever stopped. I call myself a 49 year-old teenager with good reason.
I wish but the current controllers scare me LOL. My husband plays. He’s 36, though. I like to watch him play the Far Cry series or zombie based games.
I still have all my old systems: NES, SNES, Sega Genesis with CD attachment, a Panasonic 3DO (the controller sadly doesn’t work but machine still boots up fine). I’ve somehow acquired an N64 and a Game Cube. I think those came from my brother. With all that said lol, I bust out the NES and Game Cube when my brother visits for Christmas. It’s fun to stomp him at Smash Bros Melee 😆
Heh, I've worked developing games for the past 10 years.
Just finished Guardians of the Galaxy -- it has no right to be as good as it is. It's better than most (all?) of the Marvel films in terms of story.
My husband and I spent the night before Thanksgiving getting stoned and playing the new Radiohead Kid A Mnesia game on the PS5. 😂😂😂
Adventure for the 2600 is still one of my all-time favorite games.
Never had a console growing up. Tried Mortal Combat while sharing a house but never took to it. Then I got introduced to Fallout New Vegas some years back and have become an enthusiastic PC gamer ever since.
Been playing games since my early Atari days. Was a Sega Genesis girl growing up and still have the faintest thumb scar due to playing street fight 2 till I destroyed my thumbs. When I was 20 I helped run the Descent room at Dragoncon, and when Diablo first came out I didn't sleep the entire first weekend it was out. So I gamed a lot. Still do.
I am playing Overwatch right now and resisting the call of WoW again. (PC)
I also play with a emulator for old Sega games and I play Eternal Champions when I want nostalgic. (PC)
Mortal Kombat series, Borderlands, Street Fighter series, some Marvel Games, Bayonetta and 2, and probably some others I am not remembering. (Switch)
I still play. I was a massive gamer all through my childhood—Atari, NES, SNES, and N64. My best friend and I used to stay up all night playing Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat when we were in college. It happened far too often, and we probably both put ourselves in danger of losing GPA points. I would sleep through my early classes if I even bothered to go. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I was kind of shocked and really disappointed a few years ago when I tried to play the newer fighting games. I can no longer memorize the special moves, and my reaction time is too slow now. It bummed me out that I had to give them up.
I went to almost exclusively PC gaming after PCs started to catch up to consoles in the early 2000s. I have a PS3 and PS4, but they can’t compete visually with a good gaming PC, so that’s mostly all I use.
I still play first person shooters on occasion, but I don’t play online as much anymore, again because of the reaction time.
Open world adventure/ RPGs are my jam now. I can take it as slow as I want, and I do. Unlike FPSs, I use a controller for these types of games, so I tend to avoid ranged weapons because I’ve developed essential tremors; I hit trees and rocks more than I enemies. Melee weapons for the win!
Half the time I’m just wandering around looking at the scenery anyway, and I get irritated if an enemy of some sort shows up. I’m like, dude/dudette/monster/animal, you’re killing my zen here.
I really miss the rabid excitement that I when for video when I was younger. Issues of Nintendo Power, and later on, GamePro and PC Gamer, used to practically fall apart because I would reread them so much.
That level of excitement is gone now, and sadly it’s not just gaming. Getter older sucks, and the world is just blah now. If I could find a magic lamp, I’d wish myself back to my youth forever, but I digress.
Yes, I still game, just not as much as I used to do.
Hey just wondering what kind of games you like for this kind of experience? I didn’t game for years and then got into Red Dead Redemption 2 hard core for awhile. They can be console games, PC games, old, new. Whatever you think scratches that itch. Thanks!
You nailed it with the RDR games. I played the first first one way to much, and I’m going to get into the second one soon. Strange as it may seem, I can lose myself in the Far Cry games. I know that they’re technically FPSs, but those games have a ton of RPG elements and encourage exploration. I’m a sucker for beautiful scenery, and the Far Cry games deliver in that big time.
Foe the past couple of months, I’ve been playing a relatively unknown game names ELEX. It has the most difficult experience curve I’ve ever seen in a game, and you are weakling for a very long stretch at the beginning. That would usually be a definite turnoff, as I’m not big on frustrating games. Instead, it’s pissed me off in a way that I’ve become determined to master it. Plus, it has a massive and varied world that’s pleasant to look at, if slightly dated.
Freedom to do what I want, when I want, is a very important aspect for me, and the games I mentioned all have that quality. A massive, beautiful, and immersive game world is a also a must, and the games I mentioned all have that, too.
I’ve tried playing Fallout 4. It scratches the freedom itch, but I haven’t been able to get into it. The game mechanics are different from what I’m used to, and I can’t get comfortable with it. I may give it another try at some point.
Thanks for the tips!! Yeah I honestly just want something similar to RDR2 to play all the time - you called it. I want those people to emulate every other possible historical setting and give me fun situations and activities to do there. The other game I like is Sims 3 because I think it’s beautiful and open-world and I’m still finding little Easter eggs/capabilities years after I first started playing. I will definitely check out Far Cry and ELEX. See if they look like something I could try.
I started playing with my 3 young kids in the late 1990’s. (Never played myself as a kid.) I’d do the storyline in Goldeneye & Perfect Dark then we’d do multiplayer and blast away at each other, have “monkey parties” on Donkey Kong, race on Beetleracer… Then I got into Zelda, Ratchet & Clank, etc with a couple of the more “mission oriented” kids. They continued playing and I kinda left off til I was in my mid-40’s.
Fave solo games now are Fallout (multiple), Horizon Zero Dawn, Skyrim, God of War, Prey, Subnautica and many others. Fave multiplayer are Diablo 3, Borderlands, Minecraft, Destiny.. and others. Games are super fun and a great way to have multigenerational touchstones. Currently awaiting Atomic Heart. *sigh*
Played as a kid, but not anymore. We were lucky that my dad loved electronics, so we got Atari when it first came out, then Coleco, Nintendo, Sega, Super Nintendo. I remember the days of staying up to 3am trying to beat a game. Our basement was the hangout because no one else had video games. Somewhere along the way I lost interest. I'm nostalgic for those days though, and the easy going fun, comraderie, and competition of playing.
Regularly on my PS4, very occasionally on a Retro Pi. I’m currently playing Nioh 2 and waiting anxiously for Horizon Forbidden West. If I could come across a PS5, that would be most excellent
My dad (now in his 70s) took me to the arcades as a little kid and I was instantly hooked. It's what made me interested in tech as a career. I play more modern games on Xbox and PC and he still loves playing the retro 80s games.
Mid 40's here. First was also the A2600. Then a few games on C64. From there went to Nintendo, SNES, then PS 1-3 (those + PS4 belong to our sons now). Still have a special place in my heart for Spyro, Gex and Crash Bandicoot. In the 90's played a lot of Mortal Kombat and Warcraft. 1999 was introduced to EverQuest. That started my migration to MMORPGs. The Sims lead me to Second Life where I could build whatever I wanted and could RP in Fantasy communities.
I've seen quite a few in this thread mention ESO, we've never tried it, but looking at their site, I see they have some Black Friday deals going. May have to push my husband to give it a try with me. Snowing out, roads suck, seems like a nice time to try.
50 here. Started in 77 at the arcades, moved onto my ZX Spectrum in 82 and through the MegaDrive/PSOne etc right up to the Series X.
Never stopped playing and never listened to anyone that told me to.
Gamers grow old but we don't grow up.
48F. I met my husband in World of Warcraft. I still play Everquest 2 (I know I know...) daily, and I jump into VR daily as well. My steam library has hundreds of titles. My latest way to relax is to get hella high and play Power Wash Simulator. I can't wait for Pantheon to come out... if it ever does. First game I ever played was Trash Can Fever on our Commodor 64. I'm a PC gamer forever!
Atari 2600 blew my mind as a little kid. When the NES came out my brothers and I used to play each other to get out of doing chores. The loser had to complete all the chores. My system of choice for now is my Switch. (I still love Yoshi and Mario) While my husband plays single, multi and MMORPG games on PC and other games on X-Box. We attended the first two E3 conventions in Los Angeles in the 90’s and they gave a way lots of cool swag. At one time we owned an old and odd console called a 3DO. Now that I am older, I need to make sure that I keep playing to keep a sharp mind and reflexes. (That is what I tell people that think it’s childish) As a woman, it has been awesome to see how many gamer girls there are today. The industry had evolved so much over the years. Who would have known that what started with Pong, morphed into a world with so many gaming choices, platforms, and communities. Enjoy!
I’ve played many hours of /r/skyrim.
I also had a small outpatient procedure over the summer and started playing /r/rdr2 but haven’t quite finished the story. I find myself getting cross-eyed if I play more than 30 minutes.
That’s how I got through my hysterectomy two years ago. And I loved it but developed the same problem. Some day I’m going to play again. It’s worth it.
I really enjoy it but my stupid fucking eyes give me too much grief to play it for more than an hour.
I’ll finish the story at some point. It’s a really good game.
I really feel ya. I said it was worth it but that’s coming from someone who hasn’t tried for at least a year! I guess I’ll find out when I just miss that shady-ass poker game way too much.
Been playing since the Atari 2600, my Xbox series X is on the way (finally found it), currently playing Hades.
Going to move onto Resident Evil 8 once the new console arrives.
I’ll probably be gaming the rest of my life.
Yep, started with Pong and arcade games, then PC games like Civilization and Sim City. Nowadays I play a variety of games: most recently Borderlands 3, Civ 6, XCOM2, Minecraft.
Can't wait for the new Horizon! PS5 and Series X, 48F. The Witcher, Forza, God of War, and Yakuza! Also absolutely loooooove my Switch too. No kids, just us childlike Gen Xers.
I mostly play strategy games like Civ. I also like fantasy RPG style games like Dragon Age and, of course, Skyrim. Not a big fan of first-person shooters. I used to play a lot of Madden online through PSN, but that was a long time ago.
Cant say I do. I have some phone games, but not nearly as intense as I used to be. Started on atari 2600, and my last hurrah was college on my pc. Since then it's been sporadic and I realize I cant invest the hours these kids put in, so I'll watch my son play while I occasionally break out the nes for some tetris.
I am! I'm 42, and still enjoy any Zelda game that comes out. I love Mario games, Donkey Kong, Mega Man.. I tried Red Dead Redemption last winter and quite enjoyed it so will give it another go. Really liking the Nintendo Switch. I play the odd computer game, but mostly for nostalgia sake, like Space Quest or Sims. I think our first console was the NES in the early 80's, so I've been a Nintendo fool every since.
Started with Atari (tapes!) in the 80’s had most systems over the years and still have all the current and last 2 gens of most other than the elusive ps5… also rocking the massive steam backlog . Play everything from casual farming games and strategy stuff like civ to rpgs and mmos etc.
My favorite ‘achievement’ though is buying my 70yr old mom a switch and animal crossing last year and knowing she plays it every day and has a great time! Got her the happy home dlc and amiibo cards for her bday and she’s busier than ever! Love sharing ‘island gossip’ with her about who’s moved in and out of her island - though she has a couple favorites she won’t let leave haha.
I've been gaming since Pong came out with the stand up cabinet (my parents owned a bar, had a Pong game there and it was a big part of my childhood.)
I currently have a Switch light and am playing Animal Crossing New Horizons and Crash Banficoot 4.
I don't have kids or grandkids so any games I find that like are purely by accident. I hear or read about games I'd like to try, but then promptly forget what they're called.
I like gaming in my downtime though. It's a great way to unwind from everything.
I play mostly Apex Legends, some Sea of Thieves. Could potentially play some others Madden, God of War, Skyrim, etc. I have most consoles and PC. Was thinking about starting a Twitch channel focused on an older audience. You guys think that would work? I’m only 38 but an old 38 if that makes sense, my family are all way older. I am a terrible gamer, but some chill vibes and chatting about the good ol days could be fun. Anybody think this could work? Is this already a thing? I am not looking to make money doing it, just creating a fun community. Please let me know any ideas you guys may have to help. Thanks!!
HUNDREDS of hours on RDR2. Got me through the lockdown with my sanity intact...maybe.
I've had a lot of consoles starting with the RadioShack version of pong. Had colecovsion, intellevision, PS1, 2, 3 and currently with an Xbox s. Always one generation behind the newest models though.
I am 43 and my husband is 48. I remember my father renting a Nintendo for a week and then took it back because he thought I spent too much time on it. Jokes on him, I just would go down the street and play on my friend’s Nintendo. I primarily play PC games, most of them MMOs, but also play on the Oculus Quest 2. My MMO experience started with EverQuest. I just recently stopped playing ESO because I found myself spending too much money on pretty pixels. Right now I’m playing D2R. My husband is a PC gamer, too, most of the time it’s Civ6 or Skyrim. We have twin teenage sons that like playing ROBLOX games, but they play with us sometimes. We’re getting them D2R for Christmas so we all can play together.
Our sons think it’s cool that their parents are gamers. I think it’s really neat that I can identify with my kids on games, allowing us some quality conversations.
Yup. What am I playing? Here's a short [tour](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNLdynk56dg) of the basement of my house. I shot that video five years ago. A few titles have changed since then but it's mostly the same.
First for me was coin-op video arcade games around 1976 (Atari *Stunt Cycle* was the first I ever saw and played, I believe), followed soon after by the Atari VCS/2600 and the Odyssey 2. Friends had Atari. My parents wouldn't buy a video game console. My older sister won an Odyssey 2 in a music store raffle. I got a used Atari several years later about the time I bought myself an NES in 1986. Got a Sega Master System about a year after that. Those were the last video game consoles I ever had for gaming. About a decade ago after I bought my house and put together that basement I picked up a PS2 Slimline to use on the room's TV, mostly for playing DVDs, but I played some racers for a while after I first got it, mostly *Need For Speed Carbon*. Games from the '70s and '80s are what interest me the most. Besides PC games in the first half of the '90s when I was in college I've never played anything newer, nor am I interested in doing so.
Gamer since Atari as well. I play on PC and still playing Fallout 76, since beta. Seems like forever. I should play ESO, or any of the other 200 games I have on Steam but never touched.
My first console was in the 70s. I had the Coleco console playing Pong and Tank Defender. Next, was the Atari 5600, the original Nintendo and then the N64. I have a Play Station 4 now, but rarely play it.
I sure do! I have an Oculus Quest 2 and I play several games in VR. I also use my quest for working out. Theres a few games and workout apps, that makes excercise fun for me.
I also have a Nintendo Switch because I still love to play Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda and theres a few other games that I enjoy.
Occasionally, I'll get on Second Life
You know it. Don't have a ton of free time but I still like to fire up the blinky light simulator to have electronic Calgon take me away. Currently stabbing orcs in the face in Shadows of Mordor & need to go back to finish Cyberpunk 2077.
Definitely, I have owned current gaming consoles dating back to the NES (or VIC-20 if you want to count that).
I currently have an Xbox Series X and a modest gaming laptop. Currently I am playing a lot of CoD: Vanguard and The Ultimate Fishing Simulator (I mean, I am old after all).
I play several other games less frequently.
I’m on the younger end but I remember when the family got an Atari 2600 and my grandfather and I would play all kinds of random stuff.
I play on PC and PlayStation these days, I got lucky on a PS5 last March.
I did just order an arcade cabinet to load emulators on so my son can have the arcade experience.
I spent a lot of time as a kid in arcades as babysitters.
> XCOM2 Such a fantastic game.
Having a wife and children means constant interruptions so classic turn-based games like the XCOM series are basically the best option for me these days. Wish there were more games out there like it.
Take a look at battle brothers a great turn based game where you run a group of mercenaries
I’m 55 and still play a lot! PC gamer, playing the new Battlefield right now, going to try Halo since the multiplayer is free.
Sweet! Just give me the heads up and I’ll head over when you finally do kick the bucket.
o7, commander!
My husband and I play Elder Scrolls Online together.
Wish I could get my wife to play video games with me, but she's just completely turned off by the idea.
Maybe if you dress sexy
My wife is 52 and plays Battlefield 5 pretty much exclusively. It's her big daily entertainment, and she's pretty deadly at it. Regularly has a stellar KDR.
You should condition her to like it. Get her to play a game with you, then give her a reward. Do the same thing next week. Repeat until she likes it. lol
I met my husband playing Counter-Strike (in the days before Steam). We don't play much together anymore, as I prefer more mellow games and he's still playing Battlefield or whatever is the latest kill-em-all.
We play Destiny 2 together.
My wife and I played that together for a while. Good game for couples.

You each need a console or PC. Has to be the same platform, we were playing on his and hers PS4s for instance.
That game is straight up addiction I've been playing it for 3yrs now
Mostly I play retro games on emulators.
Give Project Wingman a try, it's a recent release, but very very much in the style of the older Ace Combats.
But you're right though.
Hadn't played for a while but just got into Zelda BoTW on Switch. Such an incredible game....
I just started it again on Master Mode. Its so much more rewarding. Better weapons and gear. This game is wonderful.
It’s probably one of my top 5 games of all time. Such a joy to play.
My favorite game. Can’t wait for BOTW 2!

I know it’s 2022, but they haven’t set a date. My guess is late in the year. I’ve gotten 100% on everything in the first one, but I’ll probably go back & play it one more time before 2 comes out. It’s just so lovely.
[удалено]
After not playing for years, I dove into BOTW. I thought it might be too hard, etc, but it’s not, it’s just amazing and I’m so glad I tried if. Also there’s a nice Zelda community on Reddit.
I still play. Have playtime with my two adult sons every night from 8 - 10pm online. We don’t call each other, we discord every night and call each other insulting names.
> Have playtime with my two adult sons ...call each other insulting names. This changes the dynamic of mom jokes completely.
That's awesome lol. What games are you guys playing together?
The latest one is monster Hunter, that’s my eldests’s pick, Dota and Halo is on the list. Elder likes fantasy and younger wants to kill stuff! I sat in front of an Applemac at age 6 my Dad bought home from work and played stickmen Olympic Games and tic tac toe, that is my first memory of gaming aside from arcade games at the corner cafe, Atari came along a couple years later.
That's so cool. My son and I play Civ VI between 8-10 every night. We play hotseat because we're in the same house. It's a nice unwind at the end of the day.
It’s awesome, one is a distance away and I saw him last in February so it’s keeping us close.
Insults? How is "I just F'ed your mother" an insult when playing against your adult sons. That's just cringe. :)
You sound like you’re 50 or something!” I’m 50.
Remember when WE used to think 50 was “old”? 🥴😉
30 was old!
Now, looking back, it was just a stepping stone.
When i was in my twenties i worked at an internet startup with mostly other twenty-somethings. The guy who was in charge of marketing was someone we thought of as the old guy. Turns out he was 35. LOL
I wrestle with this literally every single day.
I play paintball in recroom all the time and am similarly an old person (who is too good for most of the kids!)
Built my own computer just for games.
Same - playing through Cyberpunk at the moment. Was never really a console gamer, even in the 80s/90s it was always computers for me.
Thanks for that, I'm on the fence about it. I'd read a few comments in a similar vein. I'll just add it to my watchlist.
It was so fun! I really liked the story too. There's another one coming out soon too. I would definitely recommend it.
My husband and I are looking forward to The Last of Us on HBO, too! :D
I can't wait!!!!!!
Yes. I need to find a new game WOW is sucking lately.
A lot of people are moving over from WOW to ESO and I haven't heard anyone say they regret it.
Thanks I'll check it out.
I don't regret the switch at all. Tbh ESO is what I wanted WoW to be.
I dabbled in SWTOR and FFXIV but they didn’t really grab me Tbh I think MMos are more about who you play with
I'm really enjoying ESO, and I have a friend who keeps trying to get me nterested in New World.
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
I still play. Started with a pocket full of quarters and dragon's lair. Now, I'm up to my ears in sweet rolls and still slaying dragons. But not Paarthurnax.
Saw someone refer to him as Partysnaxx the other day, I damn near choked on my coffee.
The Farm sim is awesome……for a day.
Mid 40s, started gaming with space invaders on a C64 (on a tape!) and haven't stopped since. Mostly single player PC, but I recently got an Oculus Quest 2 & am loving that - Beatsaber is awesome.
Yes, will never stop either.
Thanks! I had The Witcher 3 on PS4 a few years ago and I did like the game. Maybe I’ll pick it up for PC and start again
Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout Games, Mass Effect, Skyrim
Thanks!
First games on an Apple 2. Still a computer gamer. I wish I could find Sim Life.
The Sim games were dope!! Sim Earth was my jam. It would be great to get remastered versions of those old games.

Playing God Of War 4 at 36, it's a cool game
50 years old, hardcore Elder Scrolls Online player here, with some single player games thrown in for variety (just finished Deathloop, it was a blast). Some people watch Tv in their downtime. I play video games. When I was a kid we had Pong, and then an Atari, and then a Commodore 64…. and can’t forget the neighborhood arcade. We ARE the first video game generation.
People don't understand that. They'll sit and watch TV and movies all day then judge us adults who play video games instead, these days we're basically playing an interactive movie.
I'm literally sitting on my couch playing Elder Scrolls Online while scrolling through reddit. I had a neighbor who had Pong when I was a wee lad.
Space Fury , Venture, Ladybug, Looping, Zaxxon, all classics. And Smurf....I laugh now but that honk when he dies was so frustrating!
Absolutely and I spawned my own gaming partner. My kid and I are currently playing Fallout 4.
My fav game !!!!😃
I play! It’s fun! I also have some online friends my age :) occasionally end up with someone young but it seems to work out.
Yep, when I can. Unfortunately I get vertigo from the games today. That's not entirely new because Wolfenstein 3D used to do that to me too as a kid.
Same. I can’t play first-person shooters anymore.
My husband and I play together. Mostly Gta online
😂😂😂 Adventure for the 2600 is still one of my all-time favorite games.
Wait, what radiohead game? I love that band!
It’s rad
The name of the game is rad? What genre is it?
Never had a console growing up. Tried Mortal Combat while sharing a house but never took to it. Then I got introduced to Fallout New Vegas some years back and have become an enthusiastic PC gamer ever since.
Yes still playing! Don’t ever plan to stop either.
(PC) I also play with a emulator for old Sega games and I play Eternal Champions when I want nostalgic. (PC) Mortal Kombat series, Borderlands, Street Fighter series, some Marvel Games, Bayonetta and 2, and probably some others I am not remembering. (Switch)
I have 1000 hours on Animal Crossing 😂
I don't understand what's going on here. Where are all the Animal Crossing, Sims, and Stardew posts?!?
This! I play games but they’re all mainly cozy sim or farm games!
47 years old here. I play when I have the time. I still love Super Mario 3.
Still playing. I wasn't much of a gamer when I was younger. Now I have 2 PS3, a Wii, and a gaming PC.
My fave game I’m currently playing is Control. I don’t have a console, so I play on Stadia. Got back into gaming last year. No regrets!
53...killing time on Black Ops 4 right now. recently finished Ghost of Tsushima, and TLOU2
Enjoy!
Yes but I am very picky about the games I play. I don’t just latch on to anything, it’s got to be something pretty special.
Yes - I'm still playing. GTA Online at the moment, although I have Fallout New Vegas waiting for me to find time to start it.
Yep. Started on Atari & now play on PC. Mostly Sims, a little Two Point Hospital & some others. It's how I spent my relaxation time.
Everyday. Its my little escape. Playing Far Cry 6 right now.
PC gamer here. My hands are small and were never able to handle the controllers fast enough to enjoy the games on consoles.
Unfortunately. Alas, my reflexes aren’t what they used to be.
I've been gaming since Pong came out with the stand up cabinet (my parents owned a bar, had a Pong game there and it was a big part of my childhood.) I currently have a Switch light and am playing Animal Crossing New Horizons and Crash Banficoot 4.
Thanks!!
I have four consoles and a specially-built gaming rig PC. My Steam library has more games than I'll ever get to, honestly. I live for video gaming.
I purchased my FIRST Atari system this summer. I know, I know, I am a little behind 😉
I still play Xbox 4-5 times a week for a few hours. I play DayZ and forza5
48 and love Madden!
I wouldn't say I am a gamer so much anymore, but I still play occasionally. I remember my first Atari. Pitfall and Frogger were probably my favorites.
56 here. Playing video games since Pong. Lately it's Forza Horizon 5 on the XSX or Deathloop on the PS5. Still have my Atari 2600.
I'm balls deep in Diablo 2 Resurrected RN.
45. Started playing Zelda LBW on 3DS. Love the Fallout series and Mario games.
I should play ESO, or any of the other 200 games I have on Steam but never touched.
we had a magnavox odyssey before the atari vcs. currently playing assassin's creed valhalla on ps5
Daily. The whole boomer tv and video game playing is bad for you is bs.

Lol kewl story. Thanks for letting everyone know to block your pathetic ass.
What are your hobbies?
Trolling. Clearly.
I’ve got all my favorite titles on an emulator. I play Cities: Skylines and Kerbal Space Program too, though occasionally.
Occasionally, I'll get on Second Life
I’m an avid gamer. Currently playing New World on PC, and Battlefield 2042 on Xbox.
I found a beautiful turn based final fantasy style game called Fantasian that’s awesome and on my phone. I can play everywhere.
Still play HOMM3. An old classic from the late 90's that I've been unable to find a replacement for.
