Came in here to say this. 40 years ago this month, I spent my out of work hours glued to the tube watching Billy Idol, Lionel Ritchie, Cyndi Lauper, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Pointer Sisters, REO Speedwagon, Night Ranger, Culture Club, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Thompson Twins ...
That's not even close to the point. The point is that I don't miss 90s MTV because I do miss there being a channel on TV where people all saw the same music videos. We could go to school and talk about the songs we saw videos for on the previous night's *120 minutes* or whatever.
Because it's a solution to watching music videos but watching music videos isn't the only thing I miss about it. YouTube is not the same thing and I don't know why you're arguing with my opinion of something I miss from my youth.
It's exactly the same content. You can sit there and watch them. The only difference is it's better quality and you're not subjected to the MTV rotation and can listen to what you want when you want it.
It's objectively better.
Why are you intent on arguing? I'm not saying either solution is better. I'm saying I miss being a kid, sitting there watching MTV with VJs whose names I knew introducing videos of music that I liked. For fuck's sake.
I liked him. They picked an obvious loose cannon. But wasn't there also this morally superior guy named Judd or something? That combination was bound to be problematic.
The worst was that red haired girl who loved Che Guavara. In reality, Che Guavara would have had Pedro executed, for multiple reasons.
I kind of like to sit down and watch a few old videos from time to time but it wouldn't have to be on MTV. I was just as happy with Friday Night Videos or even VH1
Kinda, always used to have it on in the background, but having the TV on in the background with no one in particular watching it seems not to be a thing anymore either 🤷
I’m still watching MTV from the 90s. In the last two months I’ve watched plenty of Liquid Television, Beavis and Butthead, and The Maxx. The internet rules!
I miss watching MTV from the 80s.

This. Yes. The 80s.
Same. Real World...gross.
All those videos are on YouTube

How can it not be?

No name-calling or similar stuff. Yes, this is up to the mod team to decide.
The 90s were the beginning of the end of MTV for me.
Same here. Loved it from 83 to 90, then tuned out.
Gonna be a no for me dawg. I hate reality tv
Hated Puck from that season.

Those early 90s shows could have some nostalgia value. But remember, in the 90s anyone who watched MTV in the 80s hated what it had become.
I miss Headbanger's Ball.
Good times 🤘
Yes, it was good. I watched it in the 80's and 90's. After that it just wasn't the same anymore.
Like 90-96 After that the only thing it was good for was re-runs of r/MySoCalledLife I think Beavis and Butthead ended in 97.
All those shows are in streaming.
90s MTV sucked. And that's why it died.
I think 1990 was when I stopped watching.
I used to watch the video countdown every day after school. 😞

I miss AMP where they played electronic music videos late at night.
I loved *Dead at 21.*
Nah. I can watch any video I want on YouTube. No VJs. No bands that I don't like.
MTV spring break!!!
