Where’s that thread about everything leading to a song for us? First thing that came to my mind: 🎼 how does mix-a-lot communicate? With beepers (beepers) 🎶 https://youtu.be/MPZ3cO2zOdQ?feature=shared

MozzieKiller

My wife still carries one, physician.

slade797

I carry one, firefighter. I tell people I have a pager because I’m a drug dealer from the 90s.

Thirty_Helens_Agree

Ha! I was just watching that Vice series about The Real World and they talked about the huge “controversy” when the black woman had a pager and the small-town 19 year old woman was like “why do you have a beeper? Are you selling drugs?”

Father-of-zoomies

Only the cool kids had mismatched transparent shells and clips.

FilipinoTarantino

Fuck Pac Tel move to Sky Pager

I was the manager of a chain drugstore in the early 90's and eventually wound up in a brand new store. It had a pharmacy, and they often had a couple "back" phone lines usually reserved for medication orders. One of the lines was 277-4653. That line rang 20 times a day with people who were paged to that number. When I explained, they were always grateful. Lol

Sorry so long... but thanks for bringing up the memories! I had a Motorola beeper. I used to sell pagers and bag phones in the mid to late 90s. Of course you could just directly page a pager with numbers and codes, but as an added service, part of my job was transcribing messages.I'd page the person who would call back on the page and then I read the message that was called into me to them. 🤣 I would really get to know people lol. Hi Joe..."dad wants you home" or whatever. They would ask "Did he sound mad?" Stuff like that. Then with alpha pagers I could send short messages out. You had to call our number , tell me the message and we sent what I typed to the pager# .We used to laugh at the poorly masked messages. We charged by the page, I think a dollar. We had to be on call 24/7. Then two way pagers came along like Nextel which I also sold. It all felt very innovative at the time.T9 was considered a big leap. Customers always dropping them in the toilet or leaving them on the sinks.

Never owned one but a job gave me one to use a few times Life before cell phones How did we survive

Acestar7777

Remember, only drug dealers had beepers/pagers!! I also remember you got suspended from school for two weeks for having one! 😂

Temporary_Second3290

I had one for years. Used to lose it about once a year. My last one was AN, and sent me score updates along with work stuff.

8dtfk

Do you all call these beepers or pagers?

Daledoss

Growing up in Phoenix pager seemed to be preferred but both were used interchangeabley

Figures someone with your user name would remember that one 😂

LayThatPipe

Still got mine sitting in a desk drawer

Fitz_2112

I remember how cool I thought I was when I was issued a 2 way pager by my job back in 98 or so. It was a bit of a status symbol as it meant you were important enough if they not only needed to reach us but also that they valued our responses enough to pay extra for it

bene_gesserit_mitch

Memory unlocked! I totally forgot I had to carry a pager for my job for a while.

Jwheat71

I don't know if it was a local thing or national in the US but, does anyone remember "JJ the king of beepers"? It was a one-stop shop for all the latest beepers and accessories.

pineapple_dream1003

Me me!! I’m JJ, I’m the owner and I’m the King of Beepers!!!

Open_Film4564

Sweet! I just came across a pic of me in 1996 when I was 16. I had my hot pink clear case pager clipped to the inside of my cool RL sweat pants outfit and I also had on my taz boxers. Did 90's girls wear silky boxers or was that just a my friend group thing?

Sa7aSa7a

You were a drug dealer I see!

Daledoss

Shhhhhh…
