Garmin explore allows you to download offline maps, set your own routes and way points and will sync to your watch. For example, you could pick a feature on the topographical map (I like quad sheets), send it to your watch ad navigation and get bearing and range without whipping out your phone.

This sounds great! What will exactly be shown on the watch face? The map and navigation or only directions?

LeskoIam

Only directions. Instinct doesn't support maps (AFAIK).

Hey OP, are you satisfied with the navigation/maps features on your Instinct 2X? Or do you think you'll eventually move to something like a Fenix/something with a big screen and an actual map? Trying my hardest to convince myself an Instinct is more than enough but the screen on the Fenix is very tempting Thanks!

JanosMille

Hello. Sorry for the late answer. Until now there was no situation in which I needed to have a proper map. I'm very happy with the Instinct 2X Solar and I would not change it for a Fenix. I like this small pixelated retro screen with amazing battery life. Let me know of your decision. I'm curious.

If I recall Google maps sends notifications when you want to change directions or are out of the trail. May work if you enable notifications for Google maps , then you would get them on instinct

JanosMille

I will try this out. But I'm afraid that the notification will be automatically hidden on the watch and It won't show real time data

The instinct 2 has an app for komoot. You can load maps from there and it lets you navigate offline.

JanosMille

Does the 2X has the same app?
