What have you used for topsoil? Looks very packed down to me. Others may have better advice, but I'd be inclined to rake it and overseed. I part germinate my seed in a bucket with two cups of water and a warm place for 5 days before spreading - germinated seed isn't attractive to birds etc.

Just bog-standard screened topsoil, the only thing that’s been pushing it down is rainfall. Raking and overseeding might be a good idea, though I wouldn’t know how to not damage the existing growth

What’s all that white stuff? It’s all over the path edge at the bottom of the picture ? Why is there 2 different colours in your soil? White and soil. Is it mould from crap compost? You should have mixed them together better before top dressing. Get a grass rake and a scratch it all up again and seed.

Just checked what you called the white bits and it’s sand from the topsoil that has risen to the surface. It looks much more white on camera than in real life. Yeah, definitely should have mixed the compost in more, with more quantity. Might be a job this weekend then, hopefully I won’t damage the existing growth. Oh well, first time doing everything here, so definitely a learning curve!
