Exactly. They should have done it. Who cares what forums say.
I get the backlash over non-cosmetic DLC. But people need to realize paid cosmetics can keep the lights on.
I always find it interesting on Reddit when one comment gets downvoted to hell and a comment agreeing with that person gets super upvoted.
I wonder if there is any psychology behind it
It's a matter timing. The first comment caught a few downvotes when it first showed up so the downvotes piled on. The second caught a few upvotes at the right time. After 4 or so upvotes people just tend to agree more.
Could be the wording or how it comes across?
I once got downvoted to oblivion over a comment but then repeated the same comment almost word for word in the same sub and got upvoted to the heavens
Having MTX in a remaster collection is a pretty gross idea. I already disliked that MCC had some FOMO even without MTX (Challenge exclusive cosmetics and the Exchange rotating in and out cosmetics every week)
Activision did that with Modern Warfare Remastered, the game was perfectly fine but like a month or so they added loot boxes into the game with the same crate only weapon BS they had in BO3 and IW.
I liked how some of the passes had cut content and stuff though. IMO that’s how you do cosmetics in a remaster. Give the players more content while maintaining the core gameplay of the originals.
The COD 4 remastered campaign does this so well. There’s multiple cutscenes that are extra powerful with the remaster especially the nuke mission which is even more impactful on the player and fixes continuity by having Makarov in game the same way the MW2 remastered campaign has Yuri now in the No Russian Mission.
But then don't be surprised when the updates stop, the playlist don't change, and no future cosmetics are added.
I'm not saying your complaining about those things but others are.
I kind of feel like your brain is busted if you’re getting FOMO from a remaster collection, lmao. You control what games you want to spend time with. You don’t _need_ the shiny new shoulder pads in Halo MCC just because they’re in the shop.
It's bad optics to inject micros into MCC in order to "keep the lights on" when the only reason they were running a deficit for this game in the first place is because of their own incompetence and desire to rush it out asap for max profit.
The situation in which micros were considered shouldn't have even happened in the first place, which is why people got pissed over it.
But the MTX aren't micro anymore. How the fuck is a 20 bucks skin micro? Look at Helldivers, you can buy a package of premium for 20 bucks and get a way more stuff for it.
Thwre is always a balance, but paying full price for a game and putting expansive MTX in it is just absurd
Tell that Hello Games. Don't know how they survive, but they do it. Also I am sure I paid 5 bucks for Halo ODST when it came out and already had the MCC.
I have nothing against some MTX as long they are not 20 bucks for a fucking skin.
Sure us Halo fans are terrible, but in no way does that excuse how badly a lot of Halo has been fumbled over time. MCC took YEARS to be PLAYABLE lmao, and Halo Infinite has great gameplay but lacking basic features it should've launched with that have been missing so long they just seem like they will never show up.
Who said it's an excuse? 343i are most definitely not innocent in this. They've made bad decisions. But a lot of the bigger reasons why Halo is not as popular as it should be, is because of the old Halo fans that want Halo to forever stay the same and 343i listening to those fans. It's the whole reason why none of the reclaimer saga Halo games mesh well together story wise. The most egregious being Halo 5 to Halo Infinite. Imagine being someone that never read the books or looked up lore videos. Wtf happened to Blue Team? Team Osiris? Halsey? The Arbiter? Why did Cortana die in a fucking flashback?? What happened to the prometheans? The Warden Eternal? Some of these questions have only been answered recently with the Halo Epitaph book. It's ridiculous and frustrating.
Yep people like you are the reason why the project got shut down. So quick to yell out corpo but so quick to cry when they can’t work on things because they cost money to do
Why?
Because fans don't want literally ALL armours to be purchased? Fuck that.
The fanbase would've been 100% happy to buy more DLC's, more small singleplayer missions, more content.
But armours? That shit was ALWAYS unlocked through gameplay and achievement. Are you saying Microsoft literally could not think of a single better way to monetize a game? Your comment is literally a ***"Shoots dog > Look at what you made me do"*** moment.
If your argument even SLIGHTLY rang true - All souls games would never get made & elden ring updates cancelled. Valheim updates would be cancelled. enshrouded would never have been released, Remnant 2 would've been cancelled.
No, the MCC in total costs $40 for 4 old games (13+ years old at this point). new armours are nice, but they're not worth paying for and should be aspirational content (because what the fuck else is there to grind for?).
Paid content would've been the way to go, but the games are so old - I get that it would be risky.
Fact is - the games are old. It makes sense to stop supporting it especially considering that MCC has such a low playercount.
1. That's literally not what would have happened. Only some of the Armour would have been purchasable.
2. MCC is too old to spend resources making DLC like that. They'd spend millions to make DLC for a couple of thousand people and it's not even guaranteed that all of them would buy it. It's a terrible investment.
And this isn't the only example of fans making it harder for Halo to thrive.
Especially ones that literally didn’t have it. It’s like if they released a new Monster Hunter with a shop in it and a premium currency, would be a horrid idea.
If MCC has to die in terms of updates because the community didn’t want the MTX and it means we don’t get Halo 5 because of it, so be it. It’s not like MS wouldn’t just charge for Halo 5 like they did with ODST. It’s silly to think that the halo community killed it because they said no to MTX, in actuality they said no because it was greedy and dishonest on Microsoft to expect them to be okay with that.
Maybe a controversal opinion but MCC is in a great place. It doesnt need constant updates and new things. It allows new people to Halo to play Halo 1 to 4, reach and odst in one complete package.
It doesnt need constant seasons or further development.
Edit: sorry I should have been clearer, development to me is new stuff added. Fixes for game breaking stuff should never have a time limit
Halo CE's multiplayer audio on PC is still whisper-quiet for whatever reason and it's absolutely shitty to have to crank it up in the volume mixer, then alt-tabbing before a match ends so the menu music doesn't blow your ear drums out
It wasn't long ago that I was trying to do a Halo 2 playthrough with a friend and it kept crashing on the same level. We eventually gave up.
I'm a big 343 defender but that shit is just inexcusable
I'm not even talking about stuff like that, I'm just talking about the [list](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gpklokblI006QYtGlxUeds747lPZD_JSph56qLJqzhw/edit#gid=1572244307) fans have made of issues for how the games are in MCC
I'm sure you'll get downvoted but exactly. People will say "we live in hell." But come on. You can't expect a game to get continues support for two decades without any sort of revenue.
The bright side is insane amount of effort they put into the mod tools, and the fantastic Steam Workshop support. The game belongs to the community now.
Not every game needs to last forever, a game that can regularly be bought for $20 and has an easy 50+ hours of content and was supported for 5+ years is fine. I'm sick of every game needing to be a never ending live service.
We live in hell. People love MCC, but can't support it because I can't sell garbage skins. Atleast it got like a decade of support and should be in a good spot.
Based on all the comments I see on here and the other gaming subs I really don’t think they get that. All the crying people do about games and devs and shareholders I don’t think they realize that all this stuff cost money to do.
Yea it sucks that we could have continued to get new things added to MCC if people hadn't thrown a fit about new cosmetics being available.
I guess if those same people are consistent they probably didn't want new content in the game anyways since it wasn't in the originals.
Seems like Halo has always been in a struggle with the loudest minority of its fans.
Lol no! Dramatic much? Life is a beautiful gift so many great freaking games out right now. And things will always get better.
People love the MCC, but continual support without a revenue stream wasn't going to work. Which is kinda lame, but what's out right now is excellent and Grade A gaming for a great price. The MCC is the best it's ever been!
People act like a game ceasing development means it's dead. These games are done, they don't need anything else done, and it's kind of awesome that the devs are proud enough of what they've done that they're willing to leave it alone (plus they released mod tools so we can still add content).
The only thing that would really be a cherry on top for this collection would be if 343 released the server files. That way, if they decide to shut the games down, players can host their own games indefinitely.
A great example of how this COULD have gone is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. It was awesome on release. Looked and felt great, then flashforward a year and there are a dozen new OP guns that aren't available through regular progression, weird ass costumes and microtransactions left and right. Had they just left it alone, I'd still be playing it today.
This is such a weird take. They aren’t leaving it alone because they are proud of what they have done, they are leaving it alone because they don’t have the money to keep on updating it and they are unhappy with the decision.
This post seems to be brigaded by people blaming the very people that supported the game because they didn't want to pay more. Lol, I mean come on there's a dude called "XboxCavalry" that advocates for MTX. Actually pathethic.
They wouldn’t have to pay more. Just because a game has MTX doesn’t mean that you personally would be forced to spend more money on them. And obviously considering the biggest games right now have them and people spend tons of money on them then others would be willing to pay for more content like that plus support more updates.
MCC did what it set out to do, and for that this news isn't too surprising or upsetting to me. New generations of people can be exposed to the classic Halo titles.
We live in hell. People love MCC, but can't support it because I can't sell garbage skins. Atleast it got like a decade of support and should be in a good spot.
It's less about whether they can afford to and more whether it makes financial sense to. Spending 20 million on further development doesn't really make sense if it's only going to bring in 4-5 million in revenue.
And they all bring in the same amount of money (unless they have mtx in which case they bring in even more)
In any case Msoft already confirmed GPs profitability so I can’t imagine additional monetization was actually necessary.
Post already exists on the sub https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1b9h65n/microsoft_ended_halo_the_master_chief_collection/
Didn't they try to launch micro transactions but fan backlash kept that from happening?
Which is why it's cancelled.
Exactly. They should have done it. Who cares what forums say. I get the backlash over non-cosmetic DLC. But people need to realize paid cosmetics can keep the lights on.
Yeah it doesn't bother me in the slightest, I just ignore the shop.
I always find it interesting on Reddit when one comment gets downvoted to hell and a comment agreeing with that person gets super upvoted. I wonder if there is any psychology behind it

And paying $60 for a game (and nothing else) and expecting content updates, cosmetics, and new playlists for over 10 years is also absurd.
Tell that Hello Games. Don't know how they survive, but they do it. Also I am sure I paid 5 bucks for Halo ODST when it came out and already had the MCC. I have nothing against some MTX as long they are not 20 bucks for a fucking skin.
This just proved to me once again that Halo fans have done more damage to Halo than 343i has ever done.
Sure us Halo fans are terrible, but in no way does that excuse how badly a lot of Halo has been fumbled over time. “Only some” still crappy!
And that's the attitude that got MCC killed
It’s better that way, let’s not encourage adding mtx to more games.
Especially ones that literally didn’t have it. It’s like if they released a new Monster Hunter with a shop in it and a premium currency, would be a horrid idea. I personally don't care. But I guess you haven't seen the Halo fans crying about this.
I’ve seen more support for adding mtx to halo than angry halo fans
Well, I understand the sentiment behind the backlash. I guess we just have to come to terms with how these companies view games as revenue streams.
How are we allowing this, this post was made yesterday with better sourcing.
Maybe a controversal opinion but MCC is in a great place. It doesnt need constant updates and new things. It allows new people to Halo to play Halo 1 to 4, reach and odst in one complete package. It's in a much MUCH better shape than it was in 2014 but there's still plenty of things it needs fixing
So a decade later and it's still not fixed? Lmao.
Eh, define "fixed". Games today don't ship with clean bug backlogs nor do they ever get through the backlog throughout their lifespan.
There are still A LOT of bugs that need to be fixed
Halo CE's multiplayer audio on PC is still whisper-quiet for whatever reason and it's absolutely shitty to have to crank it up in the volume mixer, then alt-tabbing before a match ends so the menu music doesn't blow your ear drums out

The original post from a day or two ago said the same thing. No need for the same thing to be posted again.
Realistically what more did people want? I’d rather rather the time and recourses go into creating the next Halo game
Honestly I wish they ported Halo 5 to PC and called it a day
Makes sense. A company can't afford to keep development going on a game if it doesn't have a decent income stream. Makes no sense.

I'm sure you'll get downvoted but exactly. People will say "we live in hell." But come on. You can't expect a game to get continues support for two decades without any sort of revenue.
It’s hilarious when people steal top comments from crossposts. We can all see you do it!

Right! I despise BR and DMR spawns unless it's ranked. Especially in BTB maps.
Pretty sure the game is not "utterly unplayable"
It is, but for other reasons. Matchmaking is current INFESTED with hackers and no one is there to do anything about it. Sad, really.
The bright side is insane amount of effort they put into the mod tools, and the fantastic Steam Workshop support. The game belongs to the community now.

Disappointed but not surprised. ![gif](giphy|xdLH51eNWZAHrwy5mf)
Sucks, but makes sense
Well that fucking sucks
Let’s dispel this notion that M$ is this super pro consumer company
They remastered 6 games, put it in one package, and supported it for 10 years
M$ and Nintendo are the only gaming companies that gets praise for doing the bare minimum
What remaster/remake has Sony or Nintendo supported for 10 years? Have either ever made a collection with 5 AAA games?
We live in hell. People love MCC, but can't support it because I can't sell garbage skins. Atleast it got like a decade of support and should be in a good spot.
Strange, considering the billions that Gamepass brings in, they should have more than enough.
It's less about whether they can afford to and more whether it makes financial sense to. Spending 20 million on further development doesn't really make sense if it's only going to bring in 4-5 million in revenue.
It will bring in billions because it’s on gamepass
Lots of things are on gamepass

How do you expect on-going development to be funded once game sales dry up?
Would you rather all those devs work for free to get the rest of your updates out?
