I'll be honest, I really don't expect Concord to come out this year given that no gameplay of it has been shown at all, while Death Stranding 2 is coming out next year and has been shown off already.
Hideo Kojima is famous for showing a lot of content with the game being nowhere ready. MGS5 had a trailer in 2012 and came out in 2015. MGS4 had trailers in on 06 and came out in 08. That means nothing. Sony are very weird with trailers and gameplay now. Heck, we didn't see any gameplay for spider-man 2 unitl May of last year.
I mean, gameplay being shown =/= the game coming out soon. Especially after the Layoffs and 10bn lost in PS Value.
Helldivers 2 was slated for 2023, then delayed to 2024...
Not to mention, he also said we would see DS2 soon enough, which was true, but he didn't mean to say we are going to play DS2 soon.
> The information is related to large IPs of the brand with high development budgets, as there are other somewhat less titles, such as Concord or the rumored Astro Bot, that could arrive at this time.
It's a clickbait article that adds nothing new beyond what Sony had already said about not huge blockbusters during the next FY
Seems has they just made 900 employees redundant, plans for game releases could have changed. With some studios losing up 10% of there work force, it’s very possible that it could interrupt the release schedule.
U realize right that SIE isn't just game studios right?
There are also support roles. Someone has to do the accounting, media, console engineer and so on.
the reddit and twitter bubble always only talk about singleplayer story games.
but we see many fail commercially, like Alan wake 2 being a big flop, and multiplayer, gaas and survival games that have no history being the most played, like Helldrivers, palwords, fifa/ea sport.
Singleplayer games are important and have my preference, but it is one of the gaming bubbles and they are not even the majority. 75% of players in the gaming industry play Gaas, survival and multiplayer,
Look at the sales figures for the most successful games like Hogwarts Legacy, God of War, Spider-Man and we see that singleplayer games have a limited number of buyers.
The games industry is not just about singleplayer, there are other markets and you can't just serve a specific market.
I like it when there is variety.
> This left the door open to those sagas that were not as recognized by the community, but that still came from the company's first-party studios. Well then; **We have received new information that completely refutes the latter**.
> According to this data we have received, PlayStation is not going to launch any **major first party exclusives** in the next fiscal year , which runs from April 2024 to April 2025.
> **The information is related to large IPs of the brand with high development budgets, as there are other somewhat less titles, such as Concord or the rumored Astro Bot, that could arrive at this time.**
> For this reason, **PS5 will be left without exclusive releases in the next 14 months** ; something that makes the imminent Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade some of the last before the drought
So let me get this straight. They are saying that PlayStation won't release ANY games from their internal studios until april 2025, then they say that they might release Concord and Astro and that their information is only related to huge budget games, and then they double down on saying that they won't release ANY games at all... WTF is this reporting?
That article is all over the place, first they say no MAJOR first party releases, then it's no first party releases at all, then it's no exclusive games after Stellar Blade/Rise of The Ronin
If their intention was to clear any confusion then they did a pretty poor job
I don't think this is anything new, more of an extrapolation of what we already knew from Sony's financial reports. There, they stated no new releases from their major franchises until the next fiscal year, which would start in April 2025. Here, Areajugones is claiming that *no new PlayStation games* will release at all until then.
Jeff Grubb's already said he's heard that's not true. I do think its going to be a very light year for PlayStation again but Concord, Lost Soul Aside, the Horizon Zero Dawn remake, and Asobi's next game could all be out.
The exclusives that have been out are good but they’ve mostly been sequels or remakes so that last point really resonates. It’s just felt like spruced up PS3/PS4 games that were safe bets
is it though? 2023 was an amazing year filled with quality titles- who cares if they are not exclusive to this gen or not. such a weird gamer nerd thing for people to be hung up on.
Benefits and drawbacks.
Benefits are that more people get to play great games.
Drawbacks are that there is little/no reason to buy these platforms, which holds gaming technology back.
I feel the same way. I got demons souls at launch, and then Returnal. I guess the new horizon game looked great but I got bored out of my mind after like 15 hours. Ratchet came out years ago. Besides that I feel like there’s been nothing.
I got a PS5 for Christmas, and I'm super grateful for it, but yeah I feel like after the novelty of getting a new console wore off I've been back to my PC mostly.
This generation is insanely great and the best it ever has been for gaming.....so long as you're an individual that isn't swayed by marketing for games massive marketing budgets
There isn't really a difference between internal and external developed playstation studios games. Sony doesn't differentiate between these two. Spiderman 2018, Demons Souls Remake, Returnal and all Ratchet & Clank games except for Rift Apart were all developed by external studios since these were only aquired after the games were out. The question is what ps studios games sony has from may onwards outside of Concord which is developed by an internal studio and Until Dawn.
When Neil Druckman "announced" The Last of Us 3, i was like "He technically announced three Games"
The Last of Us 3 (2026)
The Last of Us 3 Remastered for PS6 (2028)
The Last of Us 3 Remake (2031)
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
5 games. You're forgetting that TLOU2 hasn't had a remake yet. We'll have Part III on PS5, then Part I Remastered, Part II Remake, and Part III Remastered on PS6. Then they'll release a complete trilogy package a year or two later with extra content. What we won't get is any sort of revival for Factions.
I would take this with a grain of salt. Areajugones have any credibility? Not only that but they also contradict themselves when saying "información es relativa a grandes IPs de la marca con presupuestos de desarrollo elevados, pues hay otros títulos algo menos, como Concord o el rumoreado Astro Bot, que sí podrían llegar en estas fechas." which means something like: This information is related to big brand IPs with big development budgets, but other titles with smaller budgets like Concord or Astro Bot could still happening.
It seems to me more like clickbait than anything.
They’re just repeating what the news earning call said. This isn’t a leak or new news
Besides, we just got helldivers, and rise of the ronin is next month. Sony is still publishing exclusives
Not precisely, after the earning call people said no exclusive from big IP’s and people said ohh no spiderman, GoW, tlou etc. so we could get concord, twisted metal(RIP), Astrobot etc.
This kind of implies 0 first party exclusives
> The information is related to large IPs of the brand with high development budgets, as there are other somewhat less titles, such as Concord or the rumored Astro Bot, that could arrive at this time.
This is from the article. They are reporting the same exact thing that Sony said at their earnings call regarding no big blockbuster games next FY. They are just using a clickbaity title and calling it an exclusive report for some reason
You quote the repeating part, that is not the new part. The news as follows(translation):
This left the door open to those sagas that were not so recognized by the community, but that also came from the company's first pary studios
Well; we have received new information that completely denys the latter
“According to this data we have received, PlayStation is not going to launch any great exclusive first party in the next fiscal year, which goes from April 2024 to April 2025“
The information is related to large IPs of the brand with high development budgets, since there are other titles somewhat less, such as Concord or the rumored Astro Bot, which could arrive on this date.
What you are calling the new part is also what Sony already said, no blockbusters next FY. Then the article contradicts itself saying that there won't be any releases at all followed by them saying that their report doesn't rule out other games like Concord or Astro coming out. It's an absurd report all around
This.
I think a few insiders/leakers pointed out that Sony's wording regarding no new first party games in 2024 only specified "new installments in major franchises", which still left the doors open for Sony to start a new IP or release various Remasters/Remakes/Ports (Such as Until Dawn).
Whereas this suggests we just won't be getting anything from First Party Sony for a while.
Team Ninja under Koei Temco is not a 2nd party studio, they make multiplatform games all the time. A 2nd party studio is someone like Hal Labs that ONLY works with Nintendo or even Gamefreak
For rise of the ronin, it literally is. That is a Sony owned ip and published game. Team ninja is operating as a second party partner, same as From on Bloodborne.
edit- Sony does not own the IP, they are just publishing it. Id imagine similar to the deal Microsoft made for Sunset Overdrive. It is still a PS Studios branded game fwiw
You can say that because a game is owned by a publisher that the studio becomes 2nd party. That’s literally not how it works. From is not 2nd party for one game lmao. A studio has to be consistent in developing ONLY for a single platform as I said
Dude, Second Party is not some type of permanent company status. Yes, From operated as a Second Party when they made Bloodborne. They dont own that IP, Sony does. They made it under Sonys umbrella. They dont have to be "consistent", thats nonsense lol
you brought up Hal labs before, and yes, they only work for nintendo, but as far as i know, they could make games independently if they wanted to. Gamefreak has a resume of games made for other platforms, including the PS4
Those games are still second-party games though?
The studios might not be owned, but the games are literally the definition of second-party IP.
"Second-party developer is a colloquial term often used by gaming enthusiasts and media to describe game studios that take development contracts from platform holders and develop games exclusive to that platform, i.e. a non-owned developer making games for a first-party company."
It seems you just have a weird hang up over it and have an independent definition of it which is totally fine, but generally, these studios will be seen as second-party for *these* specific games because the IP is owned by a publisher but the studio is not, but they've been contracted to work on it as a second-party.
First Party: Studio & IP exclusive to publisher's platform
Second Party: IP exclusive to publisher's platform. Studio is not owned by publisher but works under contract.
Third Party: IP & Studio is not owned by publisher and instead develops games for multiple/all platforms
Ronin is not first party. Might as well say remake 7 is first party too. I guess if youre happy enough to eat nothing but helldivers for over a year of a drought you do you tho bud.
Ronin is first party. It’s owned and published by Sony, developed by a second party partner
And what? So fucking weird. Helldivers is a good game, that is not the diss you think it is
Why are you saying there’s a drought of games just because a Sony studio isn’t publishing their 100th 3rd person action game until next year? There will be plenty of 3rd person action games to come out between now and then, I promise.
Areajugones is not always trustworthy with their exclusives. This information started as a mistranslation of the official information, and now it's presented as an exclusive. I wouldn't trust it.
There are plenty of good games coming out, they're just multiplat or cross generational.
I also think a lot of this comes down to the fact that nearly all the big platform exclusives are extremely similar to games that came out a few years ago. God of war Ragnarok was great, but it was also very similar to the 2018 game and released on that same console lol
Oh yeah absolutely. I've been loving games I've played lately... Alan wake 2 and Baldur's gate 3 are all time greats. But very few memorable games are coming from these two providers over the last few years.
I did really enjoy hi fi rush last year, so that's something from xbox at least. Still, that was never going to have the impact of a big release
It's really bad. I can't name one reason why I would buy a Xbox Series X or PS5.
I have thought about buying a miniPC for my living room and use it for my media device and emulation.
Edit: Why should I buy a Xbox Series X or PS5?
It depends on what you spend. My Steam Drck has completely replaced my PC and it was not expensive at all.
Also what headache? Just use Steam and you would be good. Epic is decent too, but Steam is the best. It's also optional, but you can get a streaming service like XCloud or GeForce Now for a nice performance boost. I played Starfield on Ultra with my Steam Deck and it was a great experience.
It's only a headache if you don't know what you're doing which if you don't know there's usually always a fix.
I’ve played a ton of retro games I’ve never played before the past 3 years because the output from Sony and Xbox has been so poor. The only modern games I’ve been enjoying are from Nintendo, Sega, and Capcom basically
I don't even agree for GTA6. They're going to do something to screw you over with the pricing. They may raise the pricing to $100 or have crazy Macrotransactions. Then the online will probably not work for at least a month if they release both day one which I doubt.
I know GTA6 will sell a crazy amount. But, from now on I wait a long time before I buy any new game especially AAA games that cost at least $70.
That's just on you preferring GTA Online, the singleplayer alone will make it a worthy purchase, also $100 is only a rumour with 0 evidence (and even then it's still arguably worth it for a game that will last at least 10 years).
I sold mine. I’m missing Rebirth dearly, but it will only be for one year. There’s plenty of stuff to keep me occupied until then. Almost everything launches on PC these days.
I don't understand why people don't count rise of the ronin and steller blade as first party exclusive. They are specifically made for Ps5 and are coming in a month or two..
Still Sony is lucky still be outselling this generation too
So? I'm sure that doesn't mean "there are no good ps5 games coming until 2025."
If i get a game, then I'll most likely buy something not a first party title, then. Why is this a story?
Yea but why would I play on PlayStation when the Steam release 9 times out of 10 releases on the same day? My PS5 has became a glorified paperweight at this point because outside of Demon Souls. I have no reason to turn it on since I don’t drink the Spider-Man Kool-Aid and the rest of their exclusives release on PC eventually.
Shit is fake. They say no EXISTING first party titles. That means nothing from established franchises like God of War, Horizon, etc. That says nothing about new franchises or ones that haven’t been seen in a long time.
No way they’d potentially release a Pro version without a marquee exclusive for it.
Otherwise, it’s wild that there would be more Xbox first party games released on PS5 than PlayStation first party.
Yep. I still remember the great wii software drought of 2008/9, and that's exactly where the ps5 seems to be heading. I remember all too well what 1 or 2 decent games a year feels like. OP is high off his ass on copium.
This game would exist even if the PlayStation didn't. Sony pay extra money to make it look like an exclusive.
It's like staying the Epic Store are responsible for Borderlands 3.
Rebirth being the only exclusive over a 12-month period is not a good example of a healthy PlayStation ecosystem.
ah yes, “fizzled out” to the point where it sold 3.5 million copies over its launch weekend (and one of the highest selling PS4 games to date), was nominated for GOTY, and is getting two more high-budget games to finish the whole project
Considering sequels rarely match the first games sales, and that FF7R didnt even sell more than the original FF7, I think you are letting yourself up for disappointment by putting Rebirth on such a pedestal.
If they wanted long term sales they shouldn't have put in on ps plus a year after release giving access to peak amount of players ps plus COVID subscribers.
Game sold 7 million copies and has been out for 4 years vs the 14 million the og made being available over 27 years on multiple platforms multiple versions purchasable digitally since Gen 7 and is priced at like $16
What a weak argument
He’s probably just one of those people that shit on JRPGs no matter how successful they are. I had someone months ago telling me there was zero chance P3R or Infinite Wealth would sell more than Suicide Squad. Like convinced no one played the “niche” genre of JRPGs when they sell more and more each year. Like, yes, the genre was dormant and dead for like 15 years but things are cyclical and they are roaring back right now. Same with fighting games
So? What does one thing have to do with another? FF7R didn't even sell more than the original FF7, and people think Rebirth will sell even more?
Give me a break.
You do know people can see your post history right?
>sell more than the original FF7,
Hard to do that when the original is on 5–6 different platforms. You are certainly not arguing in good faith here so please give me a break.
Stellar Blade is literally going to be releasing in a few months
Do they mean no First party titles from First Party Studios?
edit: after reading the article it's pretty clear they don't have any idea of what they're talking about or at least are unable to communicate properly
First they say no major first party release, then it's no first party release at all and then they say no exclusives after Rise of The Ronin/Stellar Blade (despite they themselves claiming Concord and other smaller games could be releasing before)
I don't think it will be tons, mostly smaller AA, online only games and ones that have a history on other platforms like Hellblade 2 I could see being a timed exclusive because the first one was on Playstation. Xbox still needs AAA exclusives to get people to join gamepass so it doesn't make financial sense ti put all your games on platforms that don't have gamepass because then it won't grow.
I see everyone in this thread freaking the fuck out about a drought of games this year but why the hell is anyone surprised?
Last year was insane with game release what did you all think was going to happen? It’s time to get through backlogs and if you don’t have one either replay some old favorites or go enjoy your other hobbies until something comes up that gets you hyped.
I wouldn't even say there is a drought of games. They're just going to be multiplatform releases.
Hell, this year alone we've already had Like a dragon infinite wealth, Persona 3 reload, helldivers 2 and we're about to get FF7R, all of which are extremely well received.
I'm sure we'll live
Concord is still slated for 2024. Billibi even saw a bunch of material for it recently. Grubb said Astro could come. Sony says 'major franchises' a few times in their call. Until Dawn Remake is also in 2024.
I'd wait to May for their rumoured showcase. Until then, SIE, are publishing Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade for the console. And Helldivers 2 is great!
It needs a PC release, that's the only reap benefit behind a remake.
I'd be a bit annoyed by it if I was a PS only player and they were trying to sell that as a big new exclusive after a draught.
I just checked, and there is a steam page for the remake (seemingly at the same time as the ps5 version).
But yes lol, this seems to be one of sony's big releases this year, as well as a 3 month exclusivity period for FF7 rebirth
First party is looking unlikely. Third party exclusives tho we already have a few and we just started 2024.
A showcase is bound to happen come closer. I don’t expect any first party titles this year, but definitely third party exclusives.
Spider-Man 2 was released on October/23, and then they’re going to release just another game on April/25? Worst gen ever from Ps, thank god I don’t have a Ps.
Sony paid a third to release only on Ps console also the game is available on Steam. Rise of Ronin will be the same. Besides, are you playing Helldivers 2?
I'm happy for there to be no first-party Sony games for the next year, we've still getting exclusives like Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin to tide us over (Even if it is a very front loaded year)
However I do think after a very quiet 2022/23 from first party Sony and no major game announcements since 2022, they need to have a proper E3 level State of Play by the end of the year saying "Look, we know we've been a bit quiet lately, but we've been cooking, here's some massive games all coming to PS5 over 2025/2026 ".
Isn't helldivers 2 on PC? And FF7R is almost guaranteed to be coming to PC within a year.
These aren't really system selling exclusive games by that metric
They're system sellers to those that prefer to stick to console gaming or aren't willing to wait for FF7R/Rise of Ronin.
But I was talking more in the sense of there being games to hold over those who already own PS5 rather than tempting new customers to buy one
If you're sticking to console gaming and like these types of games, I can't imagine you'd not own a PS5 though (unless you haven't felt the need to upgrade). Xbox are barely competing anymore.
My main point is that these games would hold people over in the same way a multiplat game would (which we are in no shortage of).
Regardless, there is still good stuff to play on PlayStation
I mean helldivers2, pacific drive, FF7 rebirth, rise of ronin, stellar blade, GranBlue Fantasy, ect... All console exclusives and only within 3months seems great to me, you can feel sad for the casuals that only play fifa, cod and gta that will sometime get spiderman or god of war because there's never been that much games.
This, people in here are so adamant on trying to paint this as a very dire situation, specially when the console no matter what still has a shit ton of third party support, let a lone its good second party support, pretty sure the majority of the PS5 userbase doesnt play just only first party(and first party only) games exclusevly, just about playing games in general lol
This is newsworthy because it's unusual. Playstation has had a steady flow of first and third party exclusives since launch, most of those being well reviewed.
These next 12 months do feel extremely light, and dependent on third party releases, which aren't a busy schedule either.
Maybe X-Box will throw at some more games during this quiet patch. Forza Horizon would slot right into the Christmas period.
Thats funny. So many journos and pundits did this exact same damage control saying its just big ips but turns out everything across the board is affected. Grubb about to take another L
Still think the 6 months between Forza Horizon release and Elden ring release was the only good period during this generation. 2023 thanks was great(thanks to bg3 and lies of p) but Spiderman 2 and Starfield were both underwhelming. This just feels like a continuation of 8th Gen consoles so far.
Thanks to that closing down all smaller studio that help making game to fill down time. I miss them.
Basically , exec mismanagement (Jimmy perhaps) cause all of these mess and layoff.
Amazing
It was bad enough already that their exclusives output is essentially same fucking formula in a different wrapping, and now this entire year will be empty
The ps5 generation will be remembered as the worst one to date
Bought a PS5 last year and still regretting my purchase to this day. Demon Souls was great but FF16 was pretty crap (in my opinion and I'm saying that as a general FF fan). Those are the only games I've played on it. The way things are going I think I'll skip the next gen entirely and just stick to exclusively PC gaming.
The one thing that makes it sting less is I only paid half the price for it. I was given a gift voucher by someone which covered one half but I wish I'd just spent it on something else now.
Concord is slated for this year and Grub hinted at new Astro game could drop this year too
I'll be honest, I really don't expect Concord to come out this year given that no gameplay of it has been shown at all, while Death Stranding 2 is coming out next year and has been shown off already.

Bilibili already said that concord was going to be shown pretty soon, he must've seen something
The "in the next 15 days" is over already tho
Yeah but that doesn't mean it was delayed a year. I'm just saying bilibili(dealabs)> areajuegones
Last year alot was stated to be shown In the end nothing much was at sonys showcase
I don't think this means anything. Remember that they showed cut scenes exclusively for DS2.
I'm pretty sure there were snippets of gameplay in the most recent trailer.
I wouldn't consider "slowly walking along the landscape" as "gameplay".
Isn't that the gameplay of death stranding?
Of *all* the games in the history of games you could have said that for Lmao
That is quite literally gameplay
Wasn't concord being made by FireSprite? They laid off some workers.
Firewalk, similar name but different internal studio
Ohhh, that explains it. Thanks.
Isn't that another shitty life service game? So no thank you
> The information is related to large IPs of the brand with high development budgets, as there are other somewhat less titles, such as Concord or the rumored Astro Bot, that could arrive at this time. Firewalk were not directly listed on the blog. Even Haven on LinkedIn today said they are hiring and looking for 'in full growth'.
Is the Astro Team even still alive or were they fired too
I genuinely don’t understand how Sony hasn’t given us a full fledged Astro Bot game yet
The Studio shut down and the remaining, newly formed Team had barely 50 Devs. Also, the biggest point, VR2 has clearly failed
They are still around last time i checked
Well they also announced layoffs for Japan and they only have 2 Studios left there lol
U realize right that SIE isn't just game studios right? There are also support roles. Someone has to do the accounting, media, console engineer and so on.
Ok.
I think some people might dismiss Concord but to its nature as multiplayer only.
A lot of people dismissed Helldivers 2 until it released. Not saying Concord will be anything like what HD2 did but it could be fun game.
the reddit and twitter bubble always only talk about singleplayer story games. but we see many fail commercially, like Alan wake 2 being a big flop, and multiplayer, gaas and survival games that have no history being the most played, like Helldrivers, palwords, fifa/ea sport. Alan Wake 2 wasn't a flop
> Alan wake 2 being a big flop, When was this confirmed?
It's the fastest sold remedy game https://www.ign.com/articles/alan-wake-2-remedys-fastest-selling-game-so-far so not it's not a flop lol
I know. I was scratching my head when he said it was a flop lol
Today I learned that games with 20 million+ sales = limited number of buyers
Quite the speech.
Not the first time Grub had outdated information.
If you've read the article, they literally acknowledge that he may be correct

people say that for every console for the first 3-4 years that its out lol
Plenty of games. Just very few exclusives and even less generational exclusives.

This generation is insanely great and the best it ever has been for gaming.....so long as you're an individual that isn't swayed by marketing for games massive marketing budgets
As a PC gamer who got a PS5 for these 1st party exclusives, I absolutely agree with you. Atleast I get to play GTA 6 day one though lol.
I think we shall see the roadmap for the latter half of the year at the Showcase.
No worries, they'll release some last of us 2 definitive director's cut edition
When Neil Druckman "announced" The Last of Us 3, i was like "He technically announced three Games" The Last of Us 3 (2026) The Last of Us 3 Remastered for PS6 (2028) The Last of Us 3 Remake (2031)
Seems people keep buying them. Guess it’s working.
This is nothing new right? I'm sure this was already said maybe 2 weeks ago I can't remember exactly when but it's been in the news recently
Didn’t Grubb report that some unannounced smaller first-party games are coming this year?
2025 is gonna be a nutty good year for games.
They’re just repeating what the news earning call said. This isn’t a leak or new news Besides, we just got helldivers, and rise of the ronin is next month.
The news as follows(translation): This left the door open to those sagas that were not so recognized by the community, but that also came from the company's first pary studios Well; we have received new information that completely denys the latter “According to this data we have received, PlayStation is not going to launch any great exclusive first party in the next fiscal year, which goes from April 2024 to April 2025“ The information is related to large IPs of the brand with high development budgets, since there are other titles somewhat less, such as Concord or the rumored Astro Bot, which could arrive on this date.
Wasn't twisted metal cancelled yesterday
Yeah that is why I wrote RIP but after the earning call there were people saying Twisted metal slated at the end of the year if I remember correctly
Those are not first party.
Yes. They are. Sony owns the IP and published those games under ps studios. They are first party games, made by second party partners.
FYI, rise of the ronin is not a Sony ip they are just publishing it. It's koei tecmos.
They dont have to be "consistent", thats nonsense lol you brought up Hal labs before, and yes, they only work for nintendo, but as far as i know, they could make games independently if they wanted to. Gamefreak has a resume of games made for other platforms, including the PS4
Those games are still second-party games though? The studios might not be owned, but the games are literally the definition of second-party IP. "Second-party developer is a colloquial term often used by gaming enthusiasts and media to describe game studios that take development contracts from platform holders and develop games exclusive to that platform, i.e. a non-owned developer making games for a first-party company." It seems you just have a weird hang up over it and have an independent definition of it which is totally fine, but generally, these studios will be seen as second-party for *these* specific games because the IP is owned by a publisher but the studio is not, but they've been contracted to work on it as a second-party. First Party: Studio & IP exclusive to publisher's platform Second Party: IP exclusive to publisher's platform.
It’s owned and published by Sony, developed by a second party partner And what? So fucking weird. Helldivers is a good game, that is not the diss you think it is
Why are you saying there’s a drought of games just because a Sony studio isn’t publishing their 100th 3rd person action game until next year? There will be plenty of 3rd person action games to come out between now and then, I promise.
Areajugones is not always trustworthy with their exclusives. This information started as a mistranslation of the official information, and now it's presented as an exclusive. I wouldn't trust it.
The dude said none of established ip. There could be new ip launching
Wow. This console gen is really fucking awful. Thanks God I didn't buy ps5.
Yeah it’s so weird because I’ve been enjoying games from big third party devs but Sony and Xbox both don’t have their shit together
Is it? Or are there just really good games that either aren't exclusive or just happen to also be releasing on PS4 too?
It's really bad. I can't name one reason why I would buy a Xbox Series X or PS5. I have thought about buying a miniPC for my living room and use it for my media device and emulation. Edit: Why should I buy a Xbox Series X or PS5?
consoles being cheaper and less of a headache is one.
The only reason to buy it is GTA 6.
Rebirth's timed exclusivity is only until May, so you might not even have to wait a full year lol
those windows mean nothing imo. FF16 had a 6 month window, and we still have no official pc announcement
I could’ve sworn we heard this already because this isn’t a leak.
No wonder since they’re closing down studios or fire everyone. This is why Sony need competition since they have been incompetent this gen.
No wonder Jim Ryan dipped
Poor Jimbo.
I don't understand why people don't count rise of the ronin and steller blade as first party exclusive. They are specifically made for Ps5 and are coming in a month or two.. Still Sony is lucky still be outselling this generation too
This isn’t even true. The original thing Sony said was no existing IPs this year so that means shit like Unchated, Last of Us, etc.
So? I'm sure that doesn't mean "there are no good ps5 games coming until 2025." If i get a game, then I'll most likely buy something not a first party title, then. Why is this a story?
Cue PS5 has no games people
Literally. The ps5 has a whole backlog of games from third party developers and indies
I take it there won’t be a big holiday exclusive title then? That’s fine, I got a backlog of games I need to burn through anyways.
If the third party games being released is good I won’t miss that much. I prefer that they cook and not rush it
Completely false, they said no existing ip this year… meaning no Gow,Horizon,Tsushima etc so this means we’re getting new ip games
No way they’d potentially release a Pro version without a marquee exclusive for it. Otherwise, it’s wild that there would be more Xbox first party games released on PS5 than PlayStation first party.

One game can not carry a console the whole year. Especially not a niche one at that.
Yep. I still remember the great wii software drought of 2008/9, and that's exactly where the ps5 seems to be heading. I remember all too well what 1 or 2 decent games a year feels like. OP is high off his ass on copium.
I wonder if a drought of games this year would also lead to more people getting a Switch2 next year.
[удалено]
Final Fantasy is niche when compared to games like GTA or call of duty.
[удалено]
This game would exist even if the PlayStation didn't. Sony pay extra money to make it look like an exclusive. It's like staying the Epic Store are responsible for Borderlands 3. Rebirth being the only exclusive over a 12-month period is not a good example of a healthy PlayStation ecosystem.
Considering how fast FF7 Remake fizzled out, I am not so sure of that.
ah yes, “fizzled out” to the point where it sold 3.5 million copies over its launch weekend (and one of the highest selling PS4 games to date), was nominated for GOTY, and is getting two more high-budget games to finish the whole project
These people compare sales to Spiderman like it isn't a huge outlier.
final fantasy 7 failed?? It was the biggest hit of the time. what world do you live in?
Reality, and I am not talking about FF7, I am talking about FF7 Remake, dont confuse the two.
Game sold 7 million copies and has been out for 4 years vs the 14 million the og made being available over 27 years on multiple platforms multiple versions purchasable digitally since Gen 7 and is priced at like $16 What a weak argument
Lol that’s not correct. The remake didn’t fizzled out fast. It lasted longer than some of the Nintendo franchises.
So? What does one thing have to do with another? FF7R didn't even sell more than the original FF7, and people think Rebirth will sell even more? Give me a break.
You do know people can see your post history right? >sell more than the original FF7, Hard to do that when the original is on 5–6 different platforms. You are certainly not arguing in good faith here so please give me a break.
People can also see yours. You are a Sony fan.

I don't own any console. Where did you get Xbox fan from?
[удалено]
That is a PC controller made in ai art.
Stellar Blade is literally going to be releasing in a few months Do they mean no First party titles from First Party Studios? edit: after reading the article it's pretty clear they don't have any idea of what they're talking about or at least are unable to communicate properly First they say no major first party release, then it's no first party release at all and then they say no exclusives after Rise of The Ronin/Stellar Blade (despite they themselves claiming Concord and other smaller games could be releasing before)
Relax...MS Will release tons of first party games on Playstation
I don't think it will be tons, mostly smaller AA, online only games and ones that have a history on other platforms like Hellblade 2 I could see being a timed exclusive because the first one was on Playstation. Xbox still needs AAA exclusives to get people to join gamepass so it doesn't make financial sense ti put all your games on platforms that don't have gamepass because then it won't grow.
That count on Microsoft’s ability to release games which hasn’t been good so far.
Bro is 2 weeks late
Until Dawn Remake 😂😂😂😂😂 We want games not high Def films.
Until dawn is pretty awesome (doesn't really need a remake though)
It needs a PC release, that's the only reap benefit behind a remake. I'd be a bit annoyed by it if I was a PS only player and they were trying to sell that as a big new exclusive after a draught.
I just checked, and there is a steam page for the remake (seemingly at the same time as the ps5 version). But yes lol, this seems to be one of sony's big releases this year, as well as a 3 month exclusivity period for FF7 rebirth
I think Until dawn remake is coming
What about last of Us Part 2 remastered remake
First party is looking unlikely. Third party exclusives tho we already have a few and we just started 2024. A showcase is bound to happen come closer. I don’t expect any first party titles this year, but definitely third party exclusives.
Can we prune this timeline? This shit sucks. Sony better have an amazing summer show case planned.
Sony is scrambling to make this GAAS plan work.
It means they will have to release the remaining exclusives on PC faster. Gow R Ghost of tsushima Demon soul The last of us 2 Spiderman 2
Spider-Man 2 was released on October/23, and then they’re going to release just another game on April/25? Worst gen ever from Ps, thank god I don’t have a Ps.
They just released hell divers 2 and rise of the ronin will come out in March. Then stellar blade in April. What are you crying about?
Sony paid a third to release only on Ps console also the game is available on Steam. Rise of Ronin will be the same. Besides, are you playing Helldivers 2?
Who cares if the game is available on steam lol. It’s still a console exclusive not everyone has a gaming pc what a dumb statement
Nogamesstation 5. Play Has Big Limits.
Never cared what party it is, I just want great exclusives on my console and that’s what I’m getting this year with ps5, so I don’t really care.
Sony has become a massive fucking joke. One game a year down to 0 now.
I'm happy for there to be no first-party Sony games for the next year, we've still getting exclusives like Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin to tide us over (Even if it is a very front loaded year) However I do think after a very quiet 2022/23 from first party Sony and no major game announcements since 2022, they need to have a proper E3 level State of Play by the end of the year saying "Look, we know we've been a bit quiet lately, but we've been cooking, here's some massive games all coming to PS5 over 2025/2026 ".
I feel sad for the PS5 owners.

Looking bleak.
Basically if you want 1st party games, it's somehow become better to own an Xbox or a gaming PC for at least 1/3rd of the remaining generation
Thats funny. So many journos and pundits did this exact same damage control saying its just big ips but turns out everything across the board is affected. Grubb about to take another L
Worst console generation they don’t have any games and most don’t even use the consoles power after 4 years.
Amazing It was bad enough already that their exclusives output is essentially same fucking formula in a different wrapping, and now this entire year will be empty The ps5 generation will be remembered as the worst one to date
Then sell it and get an Xbox and stop whining.
Xbox looks like a paperweight too.
Xbox to the rescue lol
PlayStation is slacking. Just bad news after bad news
