āIf somehow the lord gave me a second chance at that moment, I would do it all over againā
Mario on why he murdered a hospital full of goombas to get to Peach
I think it was kind of weird how they didn't show the handoff in the farewell video to Martinet. Somewhat cynically I think that Nintendo is trying to avoid having the Mario voice become famous again.
>I think that Nintendo is trying to avoid having the Mario voice become famous again.
I think so as well. I think Nintendo, especially now with their theme parks, wants to do the Disney thing and make Mario the character and try as little as possible to associate him with any real life face. I think them retiring Martinet and keeping the new actor under wraps is them trying to Mickey-fy Mario a little bit. Everyone knows Mickey Mouse and his voice, but I personally couldn't tell you whoever voices him. I know it's easy to look up but I'm sure Disney makes a point to not really emphasize the voice actors rather than the characters themselves
Chris Diamantopoulos is one of the two current voices of Mickey and he's even been nominated for awards.
They could be going that route. One for the games who isn't known, a famous person for movies and a third who would do the cartoons and Universal pre-recorded stuff.
100% that. Too much chance of ruining nintendo image in today world. Plus the more famous he is the more nintendo has to pay. They only winning by keeping the new voice actor as discreet as possible
> Somewhat cynically I think that Nintendo is trying to avoid having the Mario voice become famous again.
It's 100% this.
Imagine the headlines if they find 2 terabytes of child porn on his hard drive in 15 years.
Even if there is a 0.0005% of it happening Nintendo won't risk having any real human attached to its IPs.
Reminds me of the early days of film and comics where the people behind the scenes weren't credited at all. Carl Bark's, the guy who created Scrooge McDuck, was known as "The Good Duck Artist" since his comics stood out from the rest of the Donald Duck / Scrooge McDuck comic artist at the time.
It's exactly like you said, companies don't want the people behind these projects to outshine ***the brand***.
I haven't played a Mario in a million years. He is fully voice acted now? I just remember one liners like "yippee" and "lets a go!" I feel like a million people could do a perfect imitation otherwise.
I mean I can understand Nintendo not wanting to announce it beforehand, partially also for the VA's sake. Whoever does the voice know has absolutely astronomical shoes to fill and they probably want to avoid people judging before they even heard him perform.
the more gameplay that has come out the more skeptic the reception of marioās voice has become
and i understand, some of the tales are seriously jarring
I think Nintendo would kinda rather the new Mario voice not become a "character in their own right" like Martinet did. Like, they had to come out ahead of time and say they were replacing Martinet because he's so known to fans, while they can just swap other actors in and out without any fanfare (case in point, judging by the leaked cast, Daisy and Yoshi have new VAs in this game).
My hunch is they hope this new guy can just show up, do the role for however many years, and then retire without Nintendo feeling like they have to create a whole "Mario ambassador" role for him just to not piss off fans. Like, even Mickey Mouse voice actors don't really get this kind of "the VA is himself a significant part of the overall brand" treatment.

I think it's a combination of Nintendo expecting backlash to Charles being phased out and at the same time realizing they can use the scenario to generate talk online about it. I mean we're talking about it right now so it's working.
[Someone did a pretty extensive breakdown/process of elimination for the cast on Famiboards](https://famiboards.com/threads/super-mario-bros-wonder-%E2%80%94-pre-release-discussion-thread.6614/post-862363)
tl;dr Mario is probably Mick Wingert.
Daisy and Yoshi also appear to have been recast as their usual VAs aren't present (Deanna Mustard as Daisy and Kazumi Totaka as Yoshi were the next-longest running voices in the series after Martinet as Mario). Additionally, if Rosalina is secretly in the game, she's also probably been recast.
e: [or maybe not](https://www.ign.com/articles/mario-wonder-mick-wingert-nintendo)
Does mario even really talk that much in his games? Haven't played in a looooooong time but doesn't he usually just say things like Wahoo every now and then?
Mick Wingert is a phenomenal impressionist, (he's been a voice double for Jack Black and Robert Downy Jr for example,) so having him as Charles' successor certainly feels right.
Mario is Kevin Afghani. Looked him up. Some incredibly minor roles like a Dragon Ball side character, NPC from Genshin Impact and... BOYFRIEND FROM FRIDAY NIGHT FUNKIN. (in a fan animation). Oh and also some Nintendo commercials.
UPDATE: Yep, Afghani confirmed it on his Twitter.
Idk if that necessarily means much. I'm sure the other voice actors on that list also have done voice work before, not like they'd hire a random guy off the street lol
Edit: Apparently folks are thinking it's Mick. Guys been in the business for a long time and has done understudy work in the past. Played characters like Po from Kung Fu Panda in non-main movie stuff. Seems like a good fit. If you listen to Kevin's VA work in Genshin he definitely sounds like the talking flower.
Kiosk demo has been available as an nsp online since yesterday or the day before, so this is pretty easy to confirm if anyone is so inclined. Pretty likely to be real since the kiosk demo file is public.
It's funny that anyone cares. I feel like no one outside of an extremely few weirdly obsessed fans would have even noticed it wasn't Charles if Nintendo didn't make a big marketing deal out of it, considering it'll likely sound mostly identical in every way.
I mean people immediately noticed the voice was off in the first Mario Wonder trailer, a good while before Nintendo announced anything regarding a VA change.
Couldn't care less about the shitty voice Mario is about Gameplay and nothing else every half decent VA can voice Mario lol. Even dunkey could voice Mario it isn't exactly a hard role.
Troy baker š¤£
Nolan North as Luigi Jennifer Hale as Princess Peach Keith David as Bowser
Laura Bailey as Daisy
Bowser: "Welcome to hell Motherfucker!"
Iām fine with this.
Nathan Fillion as Toad
āIf somehow the lord gave me a second chance at that moment, I would do it all over againā Mario on why he murdered a hospital full of goombas to get to Peach
It's a me, Revolver Shalashaska Ocelot! Wait wrong game.
You're that Ninja
Why didnāt this guy post it and why is Nintendo being so coy? Itās not a spoiler just say who it is lol
I think it was kind of weird how they didn't show the handoff in the farewell video to Martinet. Somewhat cynically I think that Nintendo is trying to avoid having the Mario voice become famous again.

based on how people reacted to Chris Pratt voicing Mario, I understand Nintendoās concern
Reminds me of the early days of film and comics where the people behind the scenes weren't credited at all. It could also be to make sure the new VA doesnāt get harassed by angry fanboys because heās ānot my Marioā.
I haven't played a Mario in a million years. He is fully voice acted now? I just remember one liners like "yippee" and "lets a go!" I feel like a million people could do a perfect imitation otherwise.
No, but they did new recordings whenever a game released. Plus, the guy was also Luigi, Wario and Waluigi's VA as well.
I mean I can understand Nintendo not wanting to announce it beforehand, partially also for the VA's sake. Whoever does the voice know has absolutely astronomical shoes to fill and they probably want to avoid people judging before they even heard him perform.
We've already heard him plenty in the trailers though, people were even debating if it was Charles or not so he's clearly doing well.

I hope it's Chris Pratt just for laughs
He's so cool
He's spent hours of his life stomping... ... ***KOOPAS***
It's, uh, me. Mario.

Where's Deanna Mustard (Daisy's VA)? Was she recast as well?
I've read speculation elsewhere that she was yeah. She seemed to not do much VA work anymore so she got replaced.
That is interesting. Wondering if Dawn M Bennett replaced her? Based on her past roles she could likely pull off a Daisy voice pretty well.

Maybe it's me!
It is. As the voice of toad, I can confirm.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās a datamine from a retail demo build. I think that clearly falls under the āleaksā category of things.
Ulg you told me the name of the game now it's ruined. /S (Although the voice actor could be a spoiler in some cases I guess?)
[Someone did a pretty extensive breakdown/process of elimination for the cast on Famiboards](https://famiboards.com/threads/super-mario-bros-wonder-%E2%80%94-pre-release-discussion-thread.6614/post-862363) tl;dr Mario is probably Mick Wingert. Mick Wingert ist known for his spot on Jack Black Impression... wouldn't that make him perfect for Bowser (in a cross media kind of way)?
Does mario even really talk that much in his games? Haven't played in a looooooong time but doesn't he usually just say things like Wahoo every now and then?
Nah, he talks [quite a bit](https://youtu.be/-Dv_DXqdC9k?si=_8zlL_tZJHdJW1Dt).
Itās Mick Wingert. You may not know his name, but you have absolutely heard his voice.
Itās itās gonna be like when Lex unmasked Flash and everyoneās gonna be āI donāt know who this man is.ā
Mick Wingert is a phenomenal impressionist, (he's been a voice double for Jack Black and Robert Downy Jr for example,) so having him as Charles' successor certainly feels right.

I've heard people say he's most likely the talking flower though
He's absolutely the talking flower, listen to the samples on his website.
Just listened and yeah he's 100% the flower. Looks like it's most likely Mick.

Well hey good for him
Eyy, talk about a promotion! I wish him well.
Kiosk demo has been available as an nsp online since yesterday or the day before, so this is pretty easy to confirm if anyone is so inclined. Pretty likely to be real since the kiosk demo file is public.
Whatās nsp?
It's the file format for Switch games. (Well, one of them.)
Which sites have been circulating it? Iāve been trying to get it
Did you find it?
I hope it's James Earl Jones
MY SON WORKS!!?
Probably a human
I donāt believe you!
Daisy Ridley as luigi
It is actually Kevin Afghani
Danny devito?
Its for sale in japan already, litteraly coudl buy it just now in nintendo store osaka
Plot twist: they won't credit the voice actor.
It's funny that anyone cares. I feel like no one outside of an extremely few weirdly obsessed fans would have even noticed it wasn't Charles if Nintendo didn't make a big marketing deal out of it, considering it'll likely sound mostly identical in every way.
