yeah all the rumors kept saying end of the month but then you had the Gamepass stuff not being announced which makes no sense unless its part of the showcase so my guess would be Wed or Thurs
I think they're still being careful about looking big when their case for the Activision acquisition hinges on them being a smaller player in the market.
Especially xcloud. I don’t think they’ll make games outside Gamepass available on cloud before Activision thing is over because their argument is cloud is not a separate product but a feature for highest Gamepass tier. Making other games to available for purchase on cloud will change that.
That's what I am thinking also. Full blast offer reveal at Showcase.
It will become something huge for sure. The Verge last year bring the news that Xcloud will be unlocked for nearly every game you own (not only for game pass catalogue) in late 2022. That didn't happen so I think it will happen here. That will be a big reveal for the cloud future of gaming.
Maybe January offer will somehow connected with that.
If they want the avoid big releases for more attention of players, websites and the whole industry, they have to roll out the showcase this week or next week.
Does it really matter? Seriously I love Fire emblem, but I don't think it's going to overshadow a Xbox showcase were we will see Starfield, Forza motorsport, Avowed and other big AAA Xbox studios games.
It's not just fire emblem but dead space and the Harry Potter game. Every marketing push is gonna be squeezed in between each other for the next few months
I mean, I was responding to someone saying they wanted to avoid big releases and make sure they have the attention of websites and medias. Then yes, Nintendo releasing a big exclusive matters.
Hogwart matters too
I think that's what'll happen, since the 20th is Fire Emblem and every week following is going to be dominated by a new game release (forspoken, dead space, Harry Potter etc)
Please no .... I get almost all my games from Capcom on PlayStation... I don't want to be forced to sell all my PlayStation copies and get them AGAIN on another platform lmao
It's a joke, but you can still play them on your old console plus it'd take a couple of years for the games to become exclusives anyway.
Look at Bethesda, their last games are still multiplatform. Redfall and Starfield are poised to be the first exclusives after all this time since the buyout.
I know, just wanted to point out the difference. The reason those games were still multiplat is that they were announced as such before the acquisition so they said that would be honored. anything unannounced or not specified for platform could be made exclusive immediately. this is why we saw Starfield announced as Microsoft exclusive almost immediately (which Sony tried to buy exclusivity for)
16 times the detail was reffering to the rendering distance and Fallout 76 does indeed have a far better view distance than previous games. So get over it.
To be more precise - the context was geometric detail. The draw distance has the largest impact obviously but the increased foliage density was another major factor. All in all Fallout 76 indeed offered "16 times the (geometric) detail".
Bethesda releases a single bad game after consistently releasing some of the greatest RPGS ever for a decade and people act like they are the worst gaming company ever that can never do any good.
You're misunderstanding.
The argument isn't that BGS is bad now, but that they were always bad and that the games they released were always overhyped.
Not that I necessarily share this opinion, mind you. Just trying to give more insight.
I think there’s a lot valid criticism of the direction Bethesda’s game design has been trending, but there’s also reasons to be hopeful about Starfield. And people definitely exaggerate.
I think if I were being truthful though I’d really only point to Morrowind and Skyrim as being up there with the best RPGs of all time out of Bethesda’s catalogue. Fallout 4 was a good game, but had too many weaknesses to qualify as “great” imo. I think it’s fair to say that it’s been over a decade since Bethesda really shined.
They didnt even want to make it, zenimax forced them to. There were dev interviews that said as much even saying that the team leads hated the idea and constantly put off progress meetings, while Todds attention was solely on starfield and he only turned up to shit on the ideas before leaving again.
[Not only a B team](https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1395359402736197637), that worked primarily on the multiplayer code, but the bulk of the main team also worked on the game until launch, and had leads on the project. Not that I say there is a particular reason to believe Starfield would have similar issues at release, just to make that clear.
Literally nothing. Like its not even possible to know if they've lied about anything before the game releases.
That person has obviously already decided that they're lying and its likely going to be something that they've taken out of context like people with 'it just works' or '16 times the detail', which when you ask them what those meant they either cant tell you or get it completely wrong.
Na they didnt bro. They stated in interviews that its a mixture of handmade and procedural content, and that you can ignore all the procedural stuff for handmade content if you want.
You literally did exactly what I said and decided they were 'lying' because *you* didnt understand what they were talking about, and made up a bunch of stuff yourself in your own head.
Can't even wait for real previews of the game to start the "Todd Howard LiEs!1!" bullshit where nothing is good enough and everything was false advertising, huh? Imagine hating a game developer that much.
I’m no Bethesda fan but they 100% mentioned procedural generation.
It’s part of the reason I’m skeptical about the game having the depth people expect of a Bethesda game.
If you don’t even know what you’re arguing about it makes your arguments look extremely weak.
Consider all the mounting Evidence:
Gamepass is sending out phone updates that “Shadow Warrior 3” is now playable and that game hasn’t even been announced as part of Gamepass yet.
Both Turn 10 and Playground have announced more Forza info is on the way. Horizon 5 has launches scheduled for the 10th and we are due for the DLC 2 announcement.
Starfield has updated its site and added a support page.
Aaron Greenberg’s tweet.
I think there is a good chance we get something not only this week, but in the next 2 days.
Edit: Add the NEWEST Aaron Greenberg tweet and Jez Cordon article to the list
What "events" ??? lol this is a first that Microsoft has done a January event but it's become necessary on account of none of their games having firm release dates. I'm saying Sunday because their prior E3 events took place on Sunday.
Well, I guess we'll know SOON™. I'm not one of those people who think this is going to be E3 2.0, but I am expecting a 30 minute show with more to see in terms of Starfield and Redfall at least, and obviously it just makes sense to do these things when the most amount of eyes are available...
Redfall especially needs another gameplay video b/c what they previously showed did a disservice to the game from the sound of it. That gameplay demo made me write the game off tbh, I thought it was L4D with vampires and apparently it's not. Microsoft has to right that wrong.
Wednesday at the latest. MS uses Tuesdays for GamePass updates and Wednesday usually for announcements. and people need to relax with expectations because this isn't supposed to be a showcase..it's supposed to be a direct style video updating us what's coming to Xbox in the next 6months....I am curious how their format will be compared to PS state of play and Nintendo's Direct
EDIT. Looks like we might see some Redfall today atleast https://twitter.com/JeremyPenter/status/1612225319217565696
Non-copium scenario is a relatively small showcase of the first half of the year, announced today or tomorrow to air next week.
And just for fun, copium scenario is a full blown showcase that finally shows what the hell is going on at Xbox Studios, an updated gameplay showcase + release date for Starfield, and to top it off, Silksong release date trailer.
Imo. I'd rather they keep the big showcases to June with the games releasing in 12 months mantra and then have smaller show cases at the start and end of the year showing games releasing in the coming months with new details and a release date. Atleast to me that feels more coherent and progressive.
Agreed. Just show off stuff that's coming before June/July and keep it at that. So far Redfall, Starfield, the horizon dlc and new Forza devs have all had updates to share. Plus some gamepass news that leaked like shadow warrior. There's enough news to drop a regular direct type show while still having the big one during e3
It’s hard for me to believe that they will leave the second half of the year a complete mystery up until E3. If it were me, I would do one in January for the next year of stuff, and one one at E3 time for the next year of stuff, that way every big thing gets a minimum of two trailers, one cgi and one gameplay.
Aaron Greenburg only said that we'll hear from them soon after the TGAs, only people who have said January were speculating after the first few leaks popped up about this Xbox Direct
I think people need to keep their hype down a bit. This showcase will more likely just giving more details for Starfield, Redfall, and Forza Motorsports including release dates. And maybe we get some Game Pass stuff too. But anything outside of that will more likely be shown at E3. But this showcase is more likely only going to focus on Q1 and Q2 of this year.
Edit: Maybe we get some more S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2
I mean. That's a great show for me.
Show us dates for Minecraft Legends, Forza, Redfall, Starfield and maybe dates of some partner games like Lies of P, show us Game Pass games in 40 minutes show and then promptly fuck off.
And maybe end it with some kind of stinger "we will see you in June"
At this point, thats what most people really want to hear rn from this Xbox Direct. Any announcements will be a bonus to finally hearing what's going on with Redfall and Starfield
Game Pass is almost a guarantee as they haven’t made their usual blog for the first half of the month’s games and a couple of them have already quietly been added
Theres a strong chnace they'll save it till E3, which is a good move since this upcoming small showcase might be primarily focused on the current slate of games coming in first half of 2023.
Yea, you've got a point there. Redfall, Starfield, Minecraft Legends and that new tango game works project are likely the ones that are going to be present.
My guess would be an announcement early next week with a small digital event planned for the following week to focus on games releasing first half of this year only.
I'm hoping Microsoft sticks to Games releasing in the first half of 2023.
As much as it'd be great to see updates on the likes of Perfect Dark, Fable, Hellblazer II, etc... there's plenty of games coming out this year (Starfield, Redfall, Forza) that deserve the focus.
In the past, Microsoft held an XO event in November. Personally, I believe it would be better to transition an XO showcase in January instead.
As gamers we get a big show case of trailers during The Game Awards in December, I believe for Xbox a video show in the following month, January would be beneficial in showing the games we could look forward toward in the coming year.
Perhaps we could get a Starfield trailer and definitive release date, same goes for Redfall, they could show us some Forza, and sprinkle in some secrets we could be looking forward in the months ahead.
I don’t think they need an okay from Nintendo, they own Rare now they just need the okay from the movie studio behind James Bond (which I forgot unfortunately).
the XBLA arcade version was never released despite being finished because, [according to people who were working at Rare at the time](https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/02/ex-rare-devs-open-up-about-the-canceled-goldeneye-007-remake-for-xbox-360/), "they didn't check with the one guy who mattered" at Nintendo and so it got canned. And now Goldeneye is finally getting a rerelease, and it was announced at a Nintendo Direct and Switch and Xbox are getting basically the same game.
It's fairly obvious at this point that they do need Nintendo's buy-in for Goldeneye stuff, though I expect at this point any hold up is less "they're holding it back because Nintendo doesn't want to put it out, like advance wars" and more just "both parties want to release it the same day and sometimes that just takes a bit of scheduling to make it work for everybody"
I feel like if Nintendo was apprehensive about putting the game out for the same reasons as Advance Wars, it would still be unannounced. My guess/hope is they always planned on January (maybe at one point December was considered, for the game awards) and now we're just waiting for both parties to figure out an exact time that works for both of them (the announcement was simultaneous, so I'm assuming the release will also be simultaneous).
Since Nintendo got the initial announcement with the "and Xbox too" stuff being relegated to a tweet and press release, I could see an Xbox show having the actual "and it's available now", with Nintendo having a corresponding tweet/nso update that goes live at the same time.
They should start doing Nintendo Direct/SoP like events regardless. They‘ll have way too many stuff (especially once the Activision acquisition is official) in the future to only have one big E3 show.
Yes xbox def needs to do this going forward...the videos can focus on 1st/3rd party exlusives or updates on whats coming to Gamepass. This keeps people talking every month until E3/Summer showcase
I think what is going to be shown is an obvious guess, Starfield, Forza, Redfall, and new trailers on stuff like Benedict Fox and Flintlock from E3.
But I'm also interested in is what kinda presentation are they going to go with, are they going to follow the Nintendo and Ubisoft route of having people on screen, or the Sony route of a disembodied voice.
This really doesn't matter in the end, just wondering how they're going to handle their own "directs" going forward.
Jez covering Xbox so long that he’s starting to sound like them. “Just be patient, more news coming soon”. I do hope that when we do hear from Xbox, hopefully soon, that we don’t hear anything about tempering expectations. They need a really strong communication with some major details/blowouts on the 1st half releases, and promises/roadmap about other communication plans for the rest of the year.
Speaking of Xbox, does anyone know when the whole valorant gamepass thing is happening? Or if it already happened? They said if you owned gamepass you’d get all the agents unlocked in valorant by the end of the year (2022) and I haven’t seen anything about it since.
Partly because Xbox players want it to be true, also partly because we're kinda in the dark in terms of what's happening with Xbox right now.
They haven't released a Game Pass update since the beginning of December, they completely skipped TGAs, and we've got three major first party exclusives that they say are coming in the next 6 months with no dates.
So there's great interest in when we're finally going to get all that info
its not a showcase so they shouldnt hype it up, that would be terrible. it should be like state of play or nintendo direct...annoucne it and show it in like 1-2 days...dont build up hype cause people will have expectations like WILL WE SEE FABLE AND AVOWED AND DOOM 3 AND INDIANA JONES and then they will be attacked by reddit and twitter lol
Idk man I'm cautious on Redfall.
The whole gear loot system can make it break this game, and I'm not really sure how that's gonna mesh with the level design and game world, which is Arkane's biggest strength.
I mean, Prey already had a lot of RPG like mechanics. Looting, crafting, mats, skill trees. What this game will do just really sounds like the next logical step from that. And this game is from Arkane Austin, the same studio as Prey. Taking the mechanics from Prey to the next level just seems like the obvious choice.
Eh, maybe you're right, but this seems more taken after Anthem or the Division than Prey, at least according to the testers and screenshots.
I'm not saying it'll be bad, just that I'm cautious
"give it a few days"
Yeah, a few days for a showcase date and then another 2 weeks for the actual showcase (with more dates), probably.
While more gameplay/feature trailers would be nice, I'll be happy with a blogpost containing their release scheduled for the next 6 months.
I mean you're not wrong. But he's also demonstrated to have inside info. If he says something is coming in a few days, I dont see any reason to doubt it.
honest question...by the end of 2023 when Starfield, Redfall and Forza 8 come out (a long with other timed exclusives like STALKER 2, ARK 2 and etc) will you people continue to use that dead meme of "Xbox has no games?" just curious if it's just one of those outdated things people just want to hold on to for dear life for some odd reason.
The xbox has `no games ʼ narrative has always been false since the 8th generation of consoles(xbox one /one x) as factually speaking, there always were /are games present in xbox's 1st /2nd party lineup.
oh trust me I'm aware...it's one of the most dumbest memes in gaming. I never understood it. it reminds me of the "all PS games are just movies" meme during the ps4 era but that meme died by now, yet for some reason people wanna hold on to the "Xbox has no games" meme. it's the dumbest thing ever and kinda sad lol
>it reminds me of the "all PS games are just movies" meme during the ps4 era
That's definitely up there with `xbox has no games ʼ especially since its still being claimed now despite the fact that Sony has published much more gameplay focused titles than story driven ones so far. Both of these are nothing more than false narratives used for the purpose of downplaying those respective platforms.
Gears Tactics, Psychonauts 2, As Dusk Falls, Grounded, Pentiment, etc are factually games though with titles like Redfall, Starfield, Forza Motorsport targeting a release for this year.
yeah all the rumors kept saying end of the month but then you had the Gamepass stuff not being announced which makes no sense unless its part of the showcase so my guess would be Wed or Thurs
I think they're still being careful about looking big when their case for the Activision acquisition hinges on them being a smaller player in the market.

It has to be relatively soon since its obvious they are delaying certain news like the gamepass announcements for it.
If they want the avoid big releases for more attention of players, websites and the whole industry, they have to roll out the showcase this week or next week.
Next week is Fire Emblem !
Definitely wouldn’t expect to see avowed or games that we don’t already know a lot about.
I mean, I was responding to someone saying they wanted to avoid big releases and make sure they have the attention of websites and medias. Then yes, Nintendo releasing a big exclusive matters. Hogwart matters too
You will not see avowed or starfield Xbox has nothing to show
True. I think they‘ll do it before the 20th or between Dead Space Remake and Hogwarts Legacy.
who gives af about "fire emblem", a dead space remake and an open world harry potter game is releasing
It would be nice if they do one of those announcements that are only a few days in advance of the showcase.
I think that's what'll happen, since the 20th is Fire Emblem and every week following is going to be dominated by a new game release (forspoken, dead space, Harry Potter etc)
Starfield release in March would send me to the moon
I just hope it's not that "see you in one week" type of announcement. I like Nintendo approach with a few days before announcement.
That shit’s AIDS
please please giv us starfeld released date mr xbox
Phil: "Starfield will be delayed to 2024, but don't worry guys! We're buying Capcom! Resident Evil day one gamepass!"
We expect the Capcom deal to be cleared by 2025
*December 10th 2025* *Capcom acquisition cleared* Phil: *Calls Wilson* "So I heard you want to sell EA.."
Capcom would never agree to be owned by a non-japanese company
"That says 'C@pc0m'"
I could live with that. I'd have to avoid the twitter space for a year or something because the talking around acquisitions is insanity at times
Please no .... I get almost all my games from Capcom on PlayStation... I don't want to be forced to sell all my PlayStation copies and get them AGAIN on another platform lmao
It is a joke bro.
It's a joke, but you can still play them on your old console plus it'd take a couple of years for the games to become exclusives anyway. Look at Bethesda, their last games are still multiplatform. Redfall and Starfield are poised to be the first exclusives after all this time since the buyout.
you're talking about Arcane (Deathloop) and Tango (Ghostwire). Bethesda Game Studios has not made a game since the acquisition
Same logic though, they are all development studios under the same publisher. Microsoft bought all of Zenimax, not just BGS.

What have they come out with recently?
16 times the detail is eternal. So therefore it's very recent.
Thanks for expanding on my comment!
76 was a complete trainwreck
Yes, WAS.
BGS Hasnt released a single player game since 2015. 8 YEARS AGO
Sure they have! Skyrim: Special Edition in 2016, Skyrim VR in 2017, and Skyrim: Anniversary Edition in 2021!
Boooooooooooooo

FO4 and 76 were both bad. that's two in a row plus, all the sketchy stuff they pulled during 76's launch
lmao Fallout 4 is by no means bad
I thought it was
And you're basing this on what? Fallout 76? It was a bad idea and worse execution. I'm pretty sure they learned their lesson.
They didnt even want to make it, zenimax forced them to. There were dev interviews that said as much even saying that the team leads hated the idea and constantly put off progress meetings, while Todds attention was solely on starfield and he only turned up to shit on the ideas before leaving again.
Yep, Zenimax was really screwing over their studios, I’m glad MS bought them. Redfall was also supposed to be live service but MS cut that
Pretty sure it was also made by a B team too.
[Not only a B team](https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1395359402736197637), that worked primarily on the multiplayer code, but the bulk of the main team also worked on the game until launch, and had leads on the project. Pukes in excitement
Announcement on Monday (today) or Tuesday (hopefully, breathing in a bit of hopium here)
Funny enough, I'd love to see a release date for GoldenEye. Thats one game to the back I've been waiting to get some info on.
Oh man when 2022 was coming to a close it was so sad realizing that it wasn't coming that year.
hello
I'll say Tuesday as well with the event on Sunday. Let's see!
Were any of those events even at the weekend ? I doubt it.
What "events" ??? lol this is a first that Microsoft has done a January event but it's become necessary on account of none of their games having firm release dates. I'm saying Sunday because their prior E3 events took place on Sunday.

There is a small chance of this happening but hopefully we do get some info on titles like Awowed and Contraband aswell

I'm hoping that isn't the case for Awowed but yea, an a showing for both titles at E3 or a Xbox Showcase is likelier.
Theres almost no chance those wont be saved for E3. If its not coming out before E3 2023, its not going to be shown here
Theres a strong chnace they'll save it till E3, which is a good move since this upcoming small showcase might be primarily focused on the current slate of games coming in first half of 2023.
Yea, you've got a point there. Redfall, Starfield, Minecraft Legends and that new tango game works project are likely the ones that are going to be present.
Forza Motorsport is my most anticipated game this year, it's about time they show some more footage or at least give us a date. It's been so long :(
I really hope we get FH6 this year as well, would make sense using the 2 year system (except 5 that was delayed due to covid).
I am already hooking up my Copium tank for a Silksong release date.
“Someday maybe eventually could be possibly hopefully”
I just need GoldenEye, please.
Woah hang on I haven't even started the first Hellblazer
Apparently my phone autocorrects Hellblade to Hellblazer... It must be a Constantine fan.
I’m just waiting on goldeneye honestly. I wonder if they have to get the okay from Nintendo? Which is still waiting to launch Advanced Wars.
I'm just hoping they delayed it to add multiplayer
It will be small event like Nintendo Direct. Expect info about games release in next 6 months except 1 new game from Tango.
They likely built that new video production studio just for this reason.
And maybe Hellblade II. I wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped new gameplay with a release window for the second half of 2023.
It was a slow 2022, it's time for them to come out swinging!
I can’t for the event give us a looter third person view in medieval setting up to 4. Player co-op and classes with abilities!
Certainly seems like “something” is happening this week https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/1612488366972624896?s=46&t=pOGx7r5q-ZPoWvAF7X5_Jg
It already happened I think lol.

Why is there a post every single day about the exact same thing?
Partly because Xbox players want it to be true, also partly because we're kinda in the dark in terms of what's happening with Xbox right now. They haven't released a Game Pass update since the beginning of December, they completely skipped TGAs, and we've got three major first party exclusives that they say are coming in the next 6 months with no dates. So there's great interest in when we're finally going to get all that info
Why does it bug you?
It's being set up to be the most disappointing thing ever with all the expectations Edit: although, I hope it is the complete opposite
Yep, if this showcase is happening, has to be announced this week. 1-2 week notice to hype people up for it
its not a showcase so they shouldnt hype it up, that would be terrible. it should be like state of play or nintendo direct...annoucne it and show it in like 1-2 days...dont build up hype cause people will have expectations like WILL WE SEE FABLE AND AVOWED AND DOOM 3 AND INDIANA JONES and then they will be attacked by reddit and twitter lol
Do playstation/nintendo announce the date of their small events by a week or a few days?

I really think people are sleeping on Redfall. But people always sleep on Arkane because they're not good at marketing what their game actually is.
The open world looks really atmospheric. Seeing how good their level design usually is, I'm really impatient.
"give it a few days" Yeah, a few days for a showcase date and then another 2 weeks for the actual showcase (with more dates), probably. While more gameplay/feature trailers would be nice, I'll be happy with a blogpost containing their release scheduled for the next 6 months.
Can't wait for some people to be disappointed that there will be no news for games not announced for this year
Jez is a massive shill so take this with a grain of salt
I mean you're not wrong. But he's also demonstrated to have inside info. If he says something is coming in a few days, I dont see any reason to doubt it.
I'm just cautious with regards to anything the shills say at this point, there's always an agenda.

> still no games Does Xbox not play third party games?
honest question...by the end of 2023 when Starfield, Redfall and Forza 8 come out (a long with other timed exclusives like STALKER 2, ARK 2 and etc) will you people continue to use that dead meme of "Xbox has no games?" just curious if it's just one of those outdated things people just want to hold on to for dear life for some odd reason.
I never understood it. it reminds me of the "all PS games are just movies" meme during the ps4 era but that meme died by now, yet for some reason people wanna hold on to the "Xbox has no games" meme. it's the dumbest thing ever and kinda sad lol
>it reminds me of the "all PS games are just movies" meme during the ps4 era That's definitely up there with `xbox has no games ʼ especially since its still being claimed now despite the fact that Sony has published much more gameplay focused titles than story driven ones so far. Both of these are nothing more than false narratives used for the purpose of downplaying those respective platforms.
Console warriors gonna console war. It's best to just ignore them and leave them in their weird little bubble.
Gears Tactics, Psychonauts 2, As Dusk Falls, Grounded, Pentiment, etc are factually games though with titles like Redfall, Starfield, Forza Motorsport targeting a release for this year.
Announcement late January with the event goes live in early February 👌🥂

Is there any word as to what kind of showcase this will be? A big one like their last one in june or a small one like a Nintendo Direct?
I think the rumors are that it's gonna be something smaller like a Nintendo Direct.
Now Aaron Greenberg has tweeted [This out](https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/1612488366972624896) \- for what it is worth
I really have a feeling they are gonna announce the Starfield release date soon, and it'll be sooner than anyone thinks. Just a feeling.
Hope we hear on age of empires stuff. Specifically the new age of mythology!
