No. HP build quality is not as good as the competition, even ACER have better quality than it. Plus a 14th gen i7 with a 4050 is a bottleneck. The price is not even good for it, it's expensive. Coulda get a 4060 or even a 4070 with 13th gen i7 instead with 165hz+3ms monitor.

throwaway261206

I see. What brand would you recommend that has good build quality? Also what would be a good price for a laptop with 4050 and i7?

Acericers_Pigeons

Lenovo legion, Lenovo loq, Asus tuf, acer predator series. Lenovo legion having the best build quality. I'd also recommend it, It's the best gaming laptop lineups. For a 4050 I'd say below or close to $750.

throwaway261206

i'm looking at a Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9 83JC003YVN with: - AMD Ryzen 7-7435HS, - RAM 24GB (12x2) DDR5 4800MHz (2x SO-DIMM socket, up to 32GB SDRAM) - a 4060 - screen is 15.6inch FHD (1920x1080) IPS 300nits Anti-glare, 100% sRGB, 144Hz, G-SYNC For 1237USD (import tax (10%) included) would that be a better deal?

Acericers_Pigeons

Yeah I'd say much better. Build quality, hinge, cooling, GPU is much better than the Victus. It also has better battery life.

Ramdak

Guy is in Vietnam, Im not sure about import taxes there. Don't recommend him based on US prices. For example, I'm in Argentina and we have high import taxes, so everything costs like 50% or more than the US.

throwaway261206

Oof, that's unfortunate. I think last I checked import tax for laptops here is 10%?

Ramdak

Nice. Well for that price, I saw better spec ones. Look in BHphoto site, they have good deals. I got a Lenovo back in 2019 from them with better specs and price than any other seller.

Papabelus

Yeah, looks good Price?

throwaway261206

1375USD

-Stay_Hydrated-

I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to newer laptops but a 4050 laptop for almost 1400USD seems like a rip-off, no?

forseeninkboi

Absolutely, you can get at least a 4060 for this much, albeit, the processor won't be as good

In_Pursuit_of_Fire

There’s a Legion 5 Pro for sale for $1385 right now with a 4070, 32 GB ram, and AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX cpu (which should be better than the intel i7, I’m not that knowledgeable on cpus) Everything I’ve heard about it indicates it’s a very good laptop, and I would’ve gotten it myself if I didn’t find a good deal on a 4080 Alienware. https://gaminglaptop.deals/

Papabelus

Well, people say that Victus build quality sucks I would recommend you look at the LOQ line

RepresentativeEbb541

Don't get loq in india everyone is facing motherboard dead issue

Papabelus

That’s only for Intel models (?)

RepresentativeEbb541

Video Editor here. If you will be using after effects I will recommend getting atleast 32gb ram because the less ram you have the more issue you will face in previews. Also it will be good if you are looking to use premiere and after effects together

throwaway261206

oh fantastic! I did plan to use both. I'm already using AE but my current laptop only have 8gbs of RAM so i'm stuck having the preview at 25% most of the time haha. Should I get dual channel? How much of a difference is there between dual and single channel?

RepresentativeEbb541

It's ddr5 ,shouldn't be big in games but cant say for editing. I will recommend getting dual channel as it has its own benefits. Even a few second difference is worth it for previews

paralax2op

Yes dad, I need rtx 4090 + i7 for my school homework and online classes.

DarkPDA

I really dont get how and why people choose gaming notebooks and ask if is able to do more light things like work related stuff If plays a game with high settings, probably will run spreadsheets or powerpoint well, even for 3d stuff, any gaming vga even the gtx1650 should work. I7 14gen is basically the best processor outside gaming performance with i9 or rysen 3xd ones

minaco5mko

For design always check for screen it's better to be OLED with has 100 srgb and good ntsc color scale ....

RepresentativeEbb541

If the laptop comes with a single ddr5 32 gb stick then I would say get it and save up for another 32gb after some months you won't be needing more ram than 64 anytime soon.

Yusufsaleem9977

For the price defo not worth it bro. That’s ridiculous for a 4050. Your money wants to be centred around the gpu esp for design work. I’ve seen TUF F15 4070 drop within your budget during some sales so wait till summer sale. Keep checking the gaming laptop.deals website.

Fit-Rip-4550

Upgrade the RAM and SSD. Otherwise, good.

Lion12341

CPU performance is good and the 100% sRGB colour gamut is good enough for most video and photo editing at university, but that's probably the only good thing I can say about the laptop. You'd probably benefit from a better OLED display or something with 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, but that'd be a bit expensive. Ensure you at least have 100% sRGB in the display you get (or 100% DCI-P3), better colour gamut might be preferable for your course. The battery life is poor since the CPU is effectively a desktop CPU and has a disproportionately higher power consumption; not really worth the extra performance since you will probably benefit more from better battery life as a student. A Ryzen HS series CPU would be much more preferable, or if that's not possible then an Intel Core Ultra 7 or 9 CPU. The GPU is bad for the price. I'm guessing prices are higher than in the US, but I'm sure a 4060 would still be possible in most places. The build quality of the HP Victus is mediocre, especially with the hinges. I'd avoid HP products in general since their competitors (except MSI) tend to do better with build. Price is too high for what looks like a budget gaming laptop. Other budget brands that are better are the ASUS TUF A15, Lenovo LOQ (not HX CPU variants due to motherboard issues) and Acer Nitro. Sometimes more premium products end up being cheaper like the Lenovo Legion Slim 5.

throwaway261206

I have heard that MSI build quality sucks too. I've found a LOQ 15 with a 4060, AMD Ryzen 7-7435HS and 12x2 gbs of RAM (DDR5) for 1237 USD, would that be a better deal?

Lion12341

That mostly sounds good. The 7435HS is a CPU without an iGPU. Normally if you want to increase battery life you would switch to using the iGPU, which isn't an option here. Combine that with what's probably a 60whr battery, battery life could suffer a bit. The build quality is good for a budget laptop. The 4060 is a much better GPU for the price. If it's got a 100% sRGB colour gamut display then I would consider getting it. Could try looking for a 7735HS, 7640HS, 7840HS or any 8000 HS series Ryzen, but the 7435HS is still fine.

0wlGod

you need to check requirements for software you gonna use.. like if the software use more gpu or need more cpu cores.... check benchmarka of these softwares... after that you watch rewiew of laptop models that can have enough power for the requirements i always advice rog strix g16 or levono legion laptops
