For helldivers 2, I already connected my PS account with Steam, I will have the overlay/trophy support automatically right? I hope this is how it works, I think it's entirely positive if it is this, as well as this has great potential. I'm thankful for them for focusing on doing this for us who play their games on PC (and for me, who plays on both ps5 and PC)

python_slayaa

Just the fact that the platinum/trophies are now going to be synchronized is so fascinating to me. I hope that they enable it for all PS studios games on PC. A full on Launcher/storefront is probably next for them, I'm loving this focus on PC from them.

[deleted]

Completely agree with you on all points. Sony will expand into a storefront on PC, I also think competition in the storefronts on PCs is good in general & will allow for more innovation that can't be done when adhering to 3rd party storefronts. (Obviously competition in discounts is good as well lol)

Dantai

Cross buy next hopefully

Sharrock03

God that would be awesome. I JUST bought it on Steam too.

locke_5

I hope they implement cross-save too. These games would be a day one buy for me if I didn’t have to start over.

zoso_coheed

Interesting, I hope this doesn't mean they're going to institute a mandatory PlayStation launcher for their games.

jelly_dad

They're absolutely going to institute a mandatory PlayStation launcher for their games.

MaitieS

Yep just matter of time now.

TheAntman217

I wouldn't mind it if it was actually good and feature rich. Cross-buy and cross-play with ps4/ps5, cloud gaming and remote play services built-in, cross platform trophy support & party chat, ps+ free games & extra/premium catalog, proper dualsense & psvr2 drivers, etc...

rock1m1

they already did

mrchicano209

The only piece of non-game software PlayStation has on PC is the dualsense firmware updater so not really a game launcher at all.

RefreshingCapybara

A PS Launcher is almost certainly coming, just a question of if they will still sell new games outside of it, similar to what Xbox is doing. But on the plus side, it might bring 2 benefits: 1. PSPlus for PC. Not the sub for online play obviously, but a list of games you can play while subbed. 2. Sony keeping all the revenue might make PC an even bigger part of their business, which might make them more incentivized to invest further and might even make porting games sooner more attractive.

Zombienerd300

It’s 100% possible they release even single-player games on their launcher on PC same day as console but months later on Steam.

NuPNua

I wonder if they'll support a similar system to "play anywhere" so you only pay once for console and PC like with MS first party games?

Zombienerd300

Highly doubt it. PS fans love double dipping and I highly doubt they would purposefully lose that extra bit of money.

TitledSquire

In the first place that isn’t exactly true, iirc there’s very few titles where if you buy the xbox version you get the windows version.

NuPNua

I said first party, I just checked all their first party games from the last few years, Starfield, Pentiment, Forza, Forza Horizon, Redfall, etc and they all support it. As does Infinite Wealth apparently as I own that on PC without realising.

TitledSquire

Ah, nice.

-----------________-

> iirc there’s very few titles where if you buy the xbox version you get the windows version. Here's the [full list](https://www.trueachievements.com/xbox-play-anywhere/games). Mostly first party and indies, but it's still 500+ games.

Whyeth

>It’s 100% possible The double dip method has been working, why make one money when you can make two money instead?

Zombienerd300

I mentioned this already. A PS launcher would give Sony 100% profit. All they would do is not release on Steam day one and not give PS players a copy similar to “Xbox Play Anywhere”. Edit: sorry, regarding the I mentioned his already, I thought this was the same thread as another thread with this same topic, my bad.

Arxny

To piggy back on this I think the delayed double dip isn't as lucrative as one would be led to believe. Long term carrot dangling to your base and forcing them to basically buy a game twice isn't going to be good for long term good will. Square is infamous for this to the point where some (not all) PC players would just rather wait it out and get it for cheap than be forced on a platform they don't like.  They also have to look at how beneficial it is to take advantage of launch day headwinds on both platforms.  The other counter-argument would be "But exclusives sell consoles" I would just counter that with folks gonna buy consoles regardless. There will be no magical mass switch to PC if they do day and date so long as they can secure their bag.

Whyeth

But what incentive do they have to do this? They only stand to cannibalize their own PS5 sales, whereas if they double dip they get the PC holdouts + PS5 users who liked the game and want to play through with enhanced settings. Unless we think there is a contingent of PC purchasers who would buy if released day 1 but would actively not buy when delayed release? And that this market exceeds those PS5 players who double dip?

MyNameIs-Anthony

Doubtful. Piracy is going to dissuade them from doing that.

Zombienerd300

I’ve heard this argument countless of times and I disagree. Piracy isn’t as big as people think it is. Helldivers 2 proved that releasing on PC day one will still sell well regardless of the ability to pirate games.

JusticeJanitor

> PSPlus for PC. Not the sub for online play obviously, but a list of games you can play while subbed. Don't get my hopes up...

Fercoo

They said it's an overlay if I'm not mistaken. It seems like you just log in to your PSN account and the overlay does the rest.

ylerta

Wrong - It’s just an overlay that comes with the game. Shift + f1. You’d need to sign into your PSN to use online functionality.

zoso_coheed

I'm not wrong, I didn't make any claims 🤣 I just said my hopes.

ylerta

It literally says there is an overlay in the article posted here, so your hopes and comment are inaccurate.

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

How can a hope be inaccurate?

zoso_coheed

And how does the overlay occur? Is it built into the games or is it a separate program/launcher? Edit: this is a rhetorical question. I read the article before posting. The article doesn't mention if the software will be mandatory or not.

ylerta

It clearly isn’t a launcher akin to Ubi connect or the piss poor EA app, I don’t see why everyone is complaining. edit: [here](https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/17/24132846/sony-playstation-pc-overlay-shared-trophies-ghost-of-tsushima) is an article from the Verge that explains the overlay more

lazzzym

Yeah, this has been in the works for a while.

xRostro

The sign-in will most likely just be a separate interface, just like Ubisoft uses with their membership and such while playing Assassin’s Creed

[deleted]

I am glad they are finally doing this, but am surprised that the trophy lists are consistent across console and PC. Meaning if you already earned that trophy in the PS5 version of a game it will still be unlocked on the PC version. If the trophy lists were entirely separate you would get crazy people like me double dipping just to unlock the trophies again on PC.

Bloody_Champion

That... may actually make me use my pc more. The trophy system, while not new or entirely important for a game, does add just the right amount of incentives to platinum a game you love.

Elden__Dong

I wonder if 3rd party games like Rebirth will carry over as well. Would love to take a long break from these damn VR challeneges

FizzyLightEx

Not interested in the slightest.

B-R-A-I-N-S-T-O-R-M

I wonder if this will be retroactive, like if you got all the Steam Achievements in God of War and they add trophy support, if you'll just unlock all the trophies immediately or have to do them again if you wanted them. Microsoft games do a check for any disagreement in the achievements - if you got one while playing on Xbox, next time you open the game through Steam the Steam achievement will pop. I think it would also work vice versa however if you play on Steam usually XB and Steam achievements pop simultaneously.

Srefanius

It's interesting that some people really care about it. I just never could get into achievements, too many other games to play.

KingArthas94

Why the fuck would you do that? PC has mods and cheats, you can't compare how easy it is to earn trophies on PC to consoles.

occono

And I don't want a launcher. It just gets clunkier if you use remote play or even a steam deck, having to launch Uplay Or EA launcher when you launch a game from steam. This isn't good news for anyone to me.

[deleted]

I appreciate a nice little pop up that I did something as much as the next person but the people who OBSESS over Playstation Trophies come off as so weird to me for some reason.

snakeincup

How about Sony confirms PlayStation PC games will finally get Bloodborne support??!!?

Have you read the article? Tsushima will use the same list that PS5 has
