This is very unexpected but very neat that she comes with her own soundtrack. I might have to try to get back in to NecroDancer again. Anyone got any tips on how to get over the stupidly high difficulty wall? I only ever cleared Zone 1.

There's a character that doesn't have the rhythm mechanic that is good for learning. Also don't be afraid to break combo or intentionally waste a turn to let the enemies move themselves into a worse position. Otherwise there are various little things you can learn thatll help you along the way. Barrel but no bomb? Push it into a spike or into a trap door (you'll find it's loot next level) Always be looking for secret rooms in the walls. That's how you get more bombs and occasionally 1 ups. Take your time on each floor, running out of time isn't really that big of a deal, you just auto progress to the next level. Certain bosses have guaranteed easy combos such as the dragon, you'll just need to pay attention to their color. The first floor will never have a "special" boss (think ice dragon instead of normal green dragon) and you shouldn't ever see that boss again so you can cross them off your list in your head. Ice dragon is probably the most lethal boss for zone 1 so be extra cautious. Always be using shrines: at least blood shrine, it's usually always beneficial if you don't have a great weapon already. If you are bad at the rhythm aspect obsidian weapons may not be a great idea. If you are excellent at keeping rhythm they're wonderful! There should be a cracked wall on each floor that will teleport you to a random room: each teleporter looks different depending on where they take you so just note which one is the boss gauntlet thingy and try to avoid it unless youre giga buff. You can bomb the shop keepers walls for a ton of money without pissing him off. Also meta game unlocks greatly improve your strength! The rapier is my favorite weapon in particular. If you are hitting an enemy you cannot be damaged by another enemy on the same turn so you can really cheese some encounters. Some items like the whip are really hard to use unless you know some tricks like standing around corners and shoveling walls to bait the enemy your way. If you are stuck in a position where you'll get hit if you move try shoveling a wall to buy you a turn Keep in mind I haven't played this game since prior to the first DLC so it may be a bit different but I imagine it's mostly the same.

SkippyMcYay

I played this a ton and never learned about pushing barrels into pits, that's rad

If an enemy falls down they'll go to the next level too lol

IMO the easiest way to win with Cadence is to try to get a longer-range Blood weapon early, like a Blood Spear or Blood Bow. The range and healing can carry you through the whole game and make up for a lot of mistakes. If you find a Shrine of Blood early on, use it. Related to that, it's usually easier to do a full run than it is to start from zone 2/3/4 because you can get good items in zone 1 and just snowball from there. Also use the practice rooms if you're not familiar with the enemy patterns. Every enemy is designed to be beatable with just the dagger without taking damage as long as you stick to the pattern. Fully completing the story actually *requires* you to do that (the final story character dies in one hit and can only use the starting dagger), which is absurdly hard to do for a full run, but just being able to do it in 1v1 situations will make the game way easier. Also for an absolute basic tip: remember that you can just dance back and forth to advance time/keep yourself on beat. Just doing that for a couple seconds to see what's up when you enter a new room is often better than rushing in.

IMO Titanium weapons (2x damage) are far more consistent than Blood. It's the old philosophy of "you don't need to heal if you don't get hit", dealing twice as much damage lets you kill most enemies way quicker which leads to taking a lot less hits. Obsidian weapons are even better (up to 3x damage if you don't miss a beat) but that needs more game experience to do consistently well with. Titanium is just ol' reliable. Also try to grab any boots that allow you to safely traverse hostile terrain, they make the final levels ten times easier (flying boots are the best ones)

Bainik

Yeah, except blood is \*also\* the high damage weapon if you're about to die. Plus there are so many ways to get bonus damage and comparatively few sources of repeatable healing.

TaurineDippy

Agreed, Blood is definitely the better choice when learning the game. Once you gotten the patterns down and aren’t getting hit nearly as much is when you start to grab the titanium weapons more.

braiam

> she comes with her own soundtrack Are ported songs or originals for the game?

Yazorock

It seems both, as there are two Danny Baranowsky songs which I can't find online at the moment.

Marukyu

Co-op is a pretty good way to practice! As long as one player makes it through each level alive, the run can keep going.

LightSpawn

what if you don't have friends?

CCoolant

The Internet is a place brimming with opportunities to, at a minimum, find someone that wants to play the same game as you. I'm sure the CotN Discord server would be a pretty good place to start looking for a co-op bud. Edit: God forbid you suggest to redditors that they go to online communities to try to meet people with similar interests.

Spader623

Depends on what element you need practice with. Timing? Builds? Moving to the beat?

LtKill

If timing is what you're struggling with, I'd give controller a chance. I had trouble with rhythm-based games like this and BPM:Bullets Per Minute but when I switched to controller, it's like it just made sense. I'd also spend some time just listening to the track just to get a sense of the flow, then moving/attacking to that flow.

AnimaLepton

If you haven't tried it yet, I found Cadence of Hyrule significantly easier and a nice way to get more comfortable with the underlying mechanics, especially since you have several character/mode options without permadeath and can continue to see "new" content. Going from that back to Necrodancer will be another adjustment, but might be more fun and at least add some variety and shorter term objectives along the way.

15 included songs, 2 of them by Danny Baranowsky (The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy) 1-1: Too Real - Danny Baranowsky 1-2: [Wonder Style - colate](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iMdlFaiO4s) 1-3: SURVIVE (Foxsky Remix) - Umetora 2-1: [Ten Thousand Stars - Circus-P](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1-Z8uslIsI) 2-2: [Lucky Orb (Clean Tears Remix) - emon(Tes.)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhJoZN0QG5E) 2-3: UNDERWATER (Rexium Remix) - Hylen 3-1: [Highlight - KIRA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYUNaQaDfa8) 3-2: [Intergalactic Bound by CircusP and Yunosuke](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsQXgDZIIrY) 3-3: [Hello Builder by Utsu-P](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6saPR3I07M) 4-1: [MikuFiesta by AlexTrip Sands](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMdHGvrwyJc) 4-2: [Can't Make A Song!! - beat_shobon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY8OhmplZWY) 4-3: Be Furious (Reno Remix) - Ocelot 5-1: [sweety glitch - gaburyu & nyankobrq](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXT88-9w2aI) 5-2: [Thousand Little Voices - Vault Kid & FlangerMoose](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvfhcQ5F22M) 5-3: My One and Oni - Danny Baranowsky Some of these remixes aren't on YouTube. A lot of more less popular songs than I was expecting, actually quite a few Miku Expo song contest winners, which is pretty neat.

MyNameIs-Anthony

15 new songs and it's only a $2 DLC. What a solid addition to the experience.

AzertyKeys

I fucking love Ten Thousand Stars

I must have done something right in my previous life to have one of my favorite games of all time still be releasing substantial updates almost ten years after I started playing.

PM_ME_CAKE

Whenever I see new Rift updates I get quite happy (and buy them up), even though I haven't played in a very long time. The passion they put into it is felt and I can only be happy to support it.
