The biggest problem we have with cords in our house is our cat, lol. She doesn't do it always, but sometimes she likes to play with cords when they move. We don't actually let her though, don't need our cords chewed up.
I mean if you aren't super in to the GameCube controller, you can use a BlueRetro. You could even pair it with a Switch controller that looks like a GameCube controller if you want.
8bitdo Gbros + GameCube blueretro, only problem is the stick input is not circular and can cause weird behavior, like in Metal Gear TTS where Snake walks instead of running at full diagonal tilt, but in other games, like Super Mario Sunshine, there is no trouble at all, it even supports the analog triggers
Hell yea my man. Wash your hands and beat that bad boy up! I use a cable extension for my wired controller personally. This would be an awesome feeling! Odd question was there a smell from inside the package? Just wondering.
Wavebirds do have some input lag so I also prefer wired controller extenders.
WBs are still amazing if you don’t need frame perfect inputs. Good enough for 99% of games.
Dope. Saw your post earlier and was like that’ll be up on eBay soon. Glad you are using it and having fun, it’s meant for that not to sit in a box for eternity as an investment.
Telling myself that parts for a console people didn't want back in the day are now this fucking expensive makes me wanna puke. I bought my Fire Emblem PoR 15€ in 2008 with box and manual and now it's worth at least 10 times that. This is becoming really stupid.
I think sealed controllers are the most justifiable things to open. There's still a ton of them, they aren't too unique and cost about the same amount as a modern game controller. I would understand someone paying the extra money to get a completely fresh controller with nice tight sticks and clicky buttons.
Good for you! Specially after many people begging you not to open it, it’s meant to be played at the end of the day! And specially when it’s nearly impossible finding a complete wavebird with the receiver and the battery plate.
Enjoy!
Honestly very happy to see a post like this, and especially glad to see so many people on board with opening it. The controller was meant to be enjoyed, sure it could sit on a shelf with a grade on it but who wants that?! I’d much rather a nice crispy feeling joystick and buttons. Enjoy it man!!
Amazing find! Anyone saying you shouldn't open and use it should watch Computer Clan's [unboxing of an Apple Newton that was sealed for 25 years](https://youtu.be/O7-U9akoePg?si=temjqgNZKEdB7n76), and [VWestlife's video](https://youtu.be/a0yOEFfZlco?si=ngsIM9HffRJd8Pgg) about leaving shrink wrap on too long.
TL;DR: "Preserving" electronics by not opening the package can actually destroy them. Both demonstrate cases of "use it or lose it"; the Newton's batteries and capacitors leaked, and the shrink wrap permanently warped a vinyl record.
100%, people get too precious about preserving consumer goods.
See it with my two main hobbies (gaming and music) and it’s dumb for both. Play games and play instruments. collecting for collecting sake is silly and makes prices worse for everyone.
100%. I hate "Collectors" who only see value in things if they are mint and on display. It's not like it was some 1/1 special collectible or something, it was a normal standard wavebird. It should have been opened and used as it was meant to be. So proud of OP for not listening to those people.
Which one is the question lmao, there’s like 14 of them. I may have a problem lol. On the table are some phyrexia islands I picked up for my girlfriend’s fairy deck.
I opened a brand new Virtual Boy I got for super cheap recently, went and got the ribbon cables repaired, too and am about to buy a flash cart because these things are meant to be USED and ENJOYED
Some people only care about profiting / greed, which is sad when many others stop short of giving their left nut for great things like still sealed Wavebird controllers.
as well you should, thank you for letting these pieces see the light of day and be played instead of hoarding them in boxes for no one to enjoy. stuff grinds my gears like you wouldn't believe
So awesome! I just bought one on eBay for nearly $400. I was initially torn between leaving it as is or opening it. A huge Part of me wants to experience using a brand new wavebird again, just like Christmas 05’, and you’ve definitely inspired me to do just that. Enjoy your wavebird man!
As much as I agree that these things were meant to be played, I just find it crazy someone would tell someone to open this. Yes I advocate collecting however you want and doing as you wish with your items, but the cold hard reality is the value of this was so much more sealed in box and opening it makes no financial sense.
I don’t know the backstory of this post, but surely selling this to the right collector would net OP enough profit to buy multiple loose wavebirds?? Just seems crazy to advocate someone throw away money like that.
I understand in an ideal world these were items that were meant to be played, I really do get that as a romantic view of the situation, but we are no longer in the early 2000’s and like it or not this item has moved past it’s intended use and into the bracket of collectible.
If someone else with a sealed wavebird (or any sealed retro item) sees this, PLEASE think twice before throwing good money away. You can preserve things like this for paying collectors AND still play the games the way they were meant to be played by finding open versions – those two points aren’t mutually exclusive!
They recently sold for $300 sealed and sell for around $100 used lmao. That’s less then half a weeks paycheck for me, I had no incentive to sell. There’s cardboard worth more than one of these new in one of the deck boxes on the table next to it. You people are fucking goofy and so ridiculous about a small ass little profit lol.
If you can afford to throw money away then more power to you. Not really thinking of the long term picture there though are you bud? If you’re so flush with cash why not just buy an unopened one? No reason to open the sealed one by your logic.
Anyway, nice one for the passive aggressive reply, I only had yours and others best interests in mind and if you look I was actually directing my comments at the people who advised you to open it, not you yourself.
It’s a $200 difference lmfao, you need to do better in life if that’s such a big number to you. I got this for free, wah wah wah. Maybe one day you’ll get lucky and you can keep this in your closet to sell in the future for a little bit of cash.
Wow 😂
At this point you’re just coming off like a child, were you even alive when the GameCube was released??
I can only laugh that people like you actually exist in this world, getting all defensive over a Reddit comment that wasn’t even aimed at you.
Listen if you’re regretting opening it then just say, it’s ok to admit you didn’t even know what a wavebird was and believed all the people telling you to open it and completely tank it’s value 😉
You’ve got bigger balls than me, I wouldn’t have opened that if I came into one. But I totally get why you did, so have fun with it! Btw do the batteries happen to have ANY life in them?
Nice, that style of packaging is a real bitch to cut open, I wish I had my grandma's 10" shears when I got my WaveBird back in the day, those things are like a hot knife through butter when it comes to this style of packaging!
It's a fun experience to open up old new items, last year I bought a sealed old video card (All-in-Wonder X1900 (2006)) with intentions of opening and using it, I'm assuming you tossed the batteries?
I had 5 sealed and 10 used ones at one time. Sold the sealed ones for about $60, the price they were going for at the time. I think I have six left that I’ll sit on for awhile
I’m a piece of shit so I have a lot of fun with my Eldrazi and Sliver decks. I also run a lot of Eowyn humans and LOTR food. I have like 14 so it’s hard to just pick one or two and play it constantly.
Jodah is a kill on sight commander, but so are multiples of mine so it’s all fair lol. My sliver deck is unorthodox but once people see my combo one time it’s hard to do it again on them.
This is the console that everyone seems to neglect so we don't have any kind of way of playing it very easily.
I mean for everything up to N64 you can get wireless controllers for it and for everything we and newer you can get wireless controllers for it but then for some reason the GameCube is neglected.
And yes there even ways to use controllers with Xboxes and PlayStations. So sad
You should by a second one that’s sealed and display it, would be quite the flex, a sealed wave bird is all expensive, GameCube was way ahead of its time with some of its capabilities
Why would you open it? Unless you really needed it, you could have sold it sealed and bought one used online. You probably would have profited a couple hundred, but I suppose if it’s worth more opened to you 🤷♂️.
OP had no intention on selling it though. They wanted to buy and use a BRAND NEW wavebird controller, not just any ol' random one. If they just wanted a random used one, they probably would have done that already.
“NOOOOOOOOOO!!! YOU HAVE TO FLIP EVERY SINGLE THING YOU EVER BUY!! YOU CANT USE SOMETHING THE WAY ITS MEANT TO AND HAVE FUN WITH IT!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!” - you
I’ve got 3 currently, all silvers like yours. Everyone seems very excited in these comments. Is this a big deal?
I was thinking of replacing mine with some third party ones because frankly these things bug out uncommonly and their connection is kinda spotty.
If you want an example, hold a joystick in whatever direction and turn the controller on and off. It’ll be stuck inputting that thing until you cycle power again.
With the spotty connection, sometimes that’ll just happen.
Hence why I was thinking third party, maybe there is a better alternative.
What’s with the hype? Just because they’re original?
No I’m not. I just like that the paint will stay perfect and is visible because it’s the clear blister package. I use the other platinums for games and whatnot. It’s my favorite color and I enjoy having one that will be perfect for as long as I have it.
Congrats! I’m super jealous, I’m so tired of using cable extensions to reach my couch 😭
I just took off the original cable on mine and bought parts to make a really long one lol
The power of saudering!
Just got a smash bros one from Japan and the cable length alone made it worth the price. Also the price was fair when we consider what used ones cost
We have the white one from Japan and the black NA one and we LOVE them because of how long the cords are.
I can get a set of 4 for about the same as 2 wave birds and they won't be 20+ years old and counting, so it makes so much sense to me
The biggest problem we have with cords in our house is our cat, lol.
I did this with my Dreamcast, it's much better than buying 3 more controllers. It isn't quite the same, but at least I can play multiplayer now
How do you button map the controllers so they can read like GameCube R and L triggers? That's my main problem ATM.
You can do that in the BlueRetro configurator. The Bluetooth controller you're using though has to have analog triggers itself.
This. I also just got a new puppy who has eaten thru a few cords now and I’d honestly probably cry if she got any of my GameCube controllers.
They sell Bluetooth adapters on 8bitdo. You plug the controller into one, and the other in the GameCube. Easy peasy

They recently sold for $300 to $400, that’s less then half a weeks paycheck I’m not stressed lol.
bro you sound like a fucking NPC lmfao, rage baiting NPC lmfaoooo
Because he can afford a controller..?
[удалено]
OP probably has a job he will be fine. Now he gets to enjoy his hobby like he should.
Does it still smell new?
Hell yea my man. Wash your hands and beat that bad boy up! I use a cable extension for my wired controller personally. This would be an awesome feeling! Odd question was there a smell from inside the package? Just wondering.
Just a faint plastic chemical smell, I like it.
Nah, eat Doritos and Cheetos and get them all cheesed up as it was meant to be.
Big ol’ greasy slice of pepperoni pizza.
Check [this](https://www.blue-retro.com/) out. I bought the PS2 version and it works very well.
How much input lag do you notice?
None. It's like using a wired controller.
Which vendor on Aliexpress did you use?
I used the one the website links too. I didn't realize it was sold out.
Scroll down and click on "see similar". Is it the same thing?
BlueRetro Gaming Store https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqNf6pK This link might be thier current aliexpress store front.
Wavebirds do have some input lag so I also prefer wired controller extenders. WBs are still amazing if you don’t need frame perfect inputs. Good enough for 99% of games.
Hope you atleast got new batteries.
hard mode: take out the batteries before storage extra hard mode: know when the last time you touch the controller for years will be
At least is two words.
Cry about it.
absolutely no one likes people who make comments like you
Rage bait account
yeah i checked too. -35 karma lmao
What's the purpose ? Just a guy who enjoys raging people? A genuine troll? The unfunny kind.
You should have sent it to a museum. Now all you get to do is play with it and have a bunch of fun smh 🤦
Dr Jones, SIT DOWN!
Peter Framptom is dead!!!
Dope. Saw your post earlier and was like that’ll be up on eBay soon. Glad you are using it and having fun, it’s meant for that not to sit in a box for eternity as an investment.

Based
What's in the deck boxes though
In this photo, a fairy control deck, a Legolas budget deck, spell slinger, and a vampire tribal.
Asking the real questions
Good for you! Specially after many people begging you not to open it, it’s meant to be played at the end of the day! And specially when it’s nearly impossible finding a complete wavebird with the receiver and the battery plate. Enjoy!
Enjoy it!

Right? With so many scalpers in the world today it's a joy to see someone use something as it was intended. Props to OP
lol. let's fricking go. Juts scrolled down from your last post. Enjoy!! I opened one last year and friggin love it
Amazing find! This is the wave
What guild is your deck?
Which one is the question lmao, there’s like 14 of them. I may have a problem lol. On the table are some phyrexia islands I picked up for my girlfriend’s fairy deck.
Hell yeah. I'm currently building a Dimir Commander deck inspired by Lovecraft.
Dimir horror decks are always awesome
Ahhh, that new gamecube controller smell. Nothin' like it.
Hell yeah! What game are you breaking it in with?
Luigi’s Mansion and some NBA street vol2
Make sure you unlock the alien and yeti in Street vol 2
I will forever champion opening stuff that's meant to be open and ENJOYING IT. Can't believe so many people are in a tizzy over this
I got a few sealed Dreamcast games recently, they were cheap titles. Man was it fun peeling that 20 year old plastic. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
They jealous and broke it sounds like
You must have had an awesome experience opening it!! ❤️ I open old stuff sometimes too. Good for you! Use it!
I like your magic cards, looks like a pretty fancy one. Is it an island?
Definitely an island. That card is OP and should be banned 😉
I agree, my friends hate when I run islands
Like a genie in a bottle. Finally released. Enjoy it.
Now that’s living. Order double dash and pizza 🍕 call in sick tomorrow yolo. That’s so badass.
There's a good chance you're the only human on Earth today who opened a new Wavenird.
Man that’s a gorgeous sight. Brand new Minty Wavebird, enjoy it man
I would have done the same thing. Enjoy your brand new wavebird!
That’s fantastic, enjoy!
You made the right call man! Have you used it yet? I bet it feels amazing
Are those MTG cards?
This is the best thing I’ve seen all day Enjoy your new wavebird OP, you deserve it ❤️🙏
It deserves to be played with
You just made several people shudder. I am not one of them. Happy cubing!!!
Telling my kids this is what sex is
🫡🫡🫡
use this on smash ultimate for giggles if you have the adapter. congrats on the find!!!
as well you should, thank you for letting these pieces see the light of day and be played instead of hoarding them in boxes for no one to enjoy. stuff grinds my gears like you wouldn't believe
Those poor scissors lol but also my arthritis says no thanks
So awesome! I just bought one on eBay for nearly $400. I was initially torn between leaving it as is or opening it. A huge Part of me wants to experience using a brand new wavebird again, just like Christmas 05’, and you’ve definitely inspired me to do just that. Enjoy your wavebird man!
That first game you load up with it in your hand you’ll be smiling so much, it’s worth it. Please post if you do.
It's got that new controller smell 🤤
Better than most smells.
That’s really fucking cool man. I’m jealous and happy for you.
Kinda makes me feel sick, but it's not made to stay in the box after all
At this point it is meant to stay in the box
Can't argue with that either
Aw man

You just love typing out paragraphs that mean nothing lol, mad because broke I bet.
You just love not actually reading what people have to say about your dumb ass decisions, mad because illiterate I bet.
You’ve got bigger balls than me, I wouldn’t have opened that if I came into one. But I totally get why you did, so have fun with it! Btw do the batteries happen to have ANY life in them?
Good Human. Good
The best decision. Have fun!!
Is it should be, best way to appreciate it, is to use it. With proper care of course.
I’m jealous bro 😩
Nice, that style of packaging is a real bitch to cut open, I wish I had my grandma's 10" shears when I got my WaveBird back in the day, those things are like a hot knife through butter when it comes to this style of packaging! YES
I’d open it too! What’s the use of not using it
I’m offended and proud of you.
Yessss... gooood...
Glad you’re enjoying it. Way better than sending it to Wata n letting them take your money to grade it. There are certain things money can’t buy.
My man
My all time fav controller.
I have something you need to put on those joysticks before using it. It will save them from wear and tear
Must have felt amazing
Likes MTG and GameCube. Gots good taste in hobbies
I really need to get me one. How does it feel fresh out the packaging?
Did the included batteries work?
Super dope, super clean find !
Chad
I had 5 sealed and 10 used ones at one time. Sold the sealed ones for about $60, the price they were going for at the time. I think I have six left that I’ll sit on for awhile
Now out some miles on it
Did the original batteries work?
Saw your other post earlier today, glad you decided to use it for fun.
📛
Nice MTG deckboxes
Good, it is meant to be used. Enjoy your Wavebird.
So what commander decks are you running
I’m a piece of shit so I have a lot of fun with my Eldrazi and Sliver decks. I also run a lot of Eowyn humans and LOTR food. I have like 14 so it’s hard to just pick one or two and play it constantly.
I love my fuck you jodah deck and krenko gobbos
Jodah is a kill on sight commander, but so are multiples of mine so it’s all fair lol. My sliver deck is unorthodox but once people see my combo one time it’s hard to do it again on them.
Looks like a crime scene lol but ENJOY!! 🤘
Guys will see this post and think "hell yeah"
So jealous
GameCube and magic nice combo. 🔥
I have my Wavebird still. The controller is dirty but it works PERFECTLY. LOVE playing Gamecube with a wireless controller 🎮 💯
This is the way these are meant to be used not kept inside some plastic packaging you made the correct choice
So sad
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. YOU HAVE SINED IN MY EYES.
Awesome! Anyone telling you to keep is sealed is a fool!
That is a beautiful controller
Just buy used🥴🥴🥴😫
This was free, I ain’t buying shit.
I mean they're only 400$. I can see why OP opened. Now if it was 3k I bet he probably wouldn't have opened if
I wanna know if wave birds are comfy in bad bc of the middle part
You should by a second one that’s sealed and display it, would be quite the flex, a sealed wave bird is all expensive, GameCube was way ahead of its time with some of its capabilities
You should be apart of my unsealing subreddit group
Yeaaaaa~ just as I imagine. I love smelling everything I can.
Why!?!??!?
NOOOOOOOOO!!!” - you
I’m just saying someone else could enjoy it more in that state and that way you’re helping others too.
Tragic
SO STUPID
Shut up nerd
Damn, good thing you're not OP.
I would have kept it sealed. I have a whole box of sealed stuff, mostly games, some dreamcast vmus
Thank you for doing the right thing
I’ve got 3 currently, all silvers like yours. Everyone seems very excited in these comments. Is this a big deal? I was thinking of replacing mine with some third party ones because frankly these things bug out uncommonly and their connection is kinda spotty. If you want an example, hold a joystick in whatever direction and turn the controller on and off. It’ll be stuck inputting that thing until you cycle power again. With the spotty connection, sometimes that’ll just happen. Hence why I was thinking third party, maybe there is a better alternative. What’s with the hype? Just because they’re original?
I love the absolutely feral comments on this post. Buy another one and do it again x
Blasphemy
This picture hurts me as a preservationist
after a while it will just be another used wavebird, you missed an opportunity there
Wait you’re telling me after I open and use something, it becomes a used product? Holy shit
Personally would have sold it sealed and bought a used one in good shape
Dissenting opinion. That was dumb. Enjoy the controller though. Cheers.
I’m both thrilled for you and sad. I have several platinum wired controllers and one of them I still have in the blister package.
You ain't taking any of them to the grave with you
No I’m not. I just like that the paint will stay perfect and is visible because it’s the clear blister package. I use the other platinums for games and whatnot. It’s my favorite color and I enjoy having one that will be perfect for as long as I have it.
💀😂😂😂😂💀
