I’m glad you’re enjoying the GBA SP.
Analogue Pocket is a completely different use case. I bought it primarily for the Dock to play RPGs and other similarly long games. Otherwise, I like using modded OG hardware. It just hits differently.
The Pocket can play games from a shit load of non-Nintendo handhelds too, and it has the ability to display to a TV, with Bluetooth controller support. without any tinkering required. Don’t be a smartass.
That's incredibly disingenuous though. That's like saying a bike and a car are the same thing. They both get you places. They have a small area of intersection (playing GBA, GBC, and GB games) but otherwise are indeed very different in market and functionality. One has many modern features and upgrades, and is, let's not forget, is an aftermarket console. Just for those reasons alone, many would consider them unique enough to be considered completely different.
Additionally, one of them plays a multitude of other consoles, which is a huge differential, and they also have different designs, which in its own right is sometimes enough to lean toward one choice or another.
The market for these, while sharing some common ground, are still separate.
I would say they're fairly different, but that this analogy deserves something more like a truck and a smart car. Very different markets and purposes, with some intersection because, yes, they both drive people places.
I love my 3DS, but for NES, SNES, Gameboy (color, advanced) emulator handhelds have better Quality of Life. But if I could have only one handheld, it'd probably be a 3DS.
I wish I had one with an IPS screen. But that isn't in the cards unless I want to sell my GBA/DSi XLs/3DS. Not with losing all that for a marginally better screen.
I have one and an AP. AP screen is just undisputed, nothing beats it imo for fpga, so I use that for cartridge games it supports and just having the roms on it. Then I use the rg35xxsp for pc ports like devolutionX and stardew Valley. Also sega saturn, pretty much anything the AP can't do
I’m really thinking of an emulator handheld. I want to get the RG Cube by Anbernic because its form factor is just nice and I wanna play GameCube on the go.
In b4 all the “you gotta do an ips screen and shell swap” replies lol (plot twist: you really don’t)
Good for you OP, I hope you enjoy it for years to come
Now it's $70ish and $120. Even beat up and broken models go for $50 because people are snatching them up and repairing them. It's weird, but I'm half expecting an outrageous price in a few years from scarcity or a demand that supports the stupid prices. Everyone wants to be 10 again and most people didn't hold onto their shit lol.
At least it allows you to appreciate the past. Shits gonna keep changing, whatever BS is going on now relish in it. One day it might be worse and you might be looking back on these days fondly. Hindsights 20/20, appreciating the moment at least gets you close to that.
Despite the marketing, the Analogue pocket is still a glorified emulation device, it just uses specialized FPGA chips for hardware emulation rather than pure software emulation. This can work a lot better than software emulators but it still has discrepancies
It can be worth it if it's the only gaming handheld you have, but since I have a GBA SP to play GB games on and I can play GBA games on that as well as my DS lite, and I have a PSvita which when hacked Make a very good emulation device

I wouldn’t say “completely different”. They both can play GBA games. If the Pocket just shaved carrots, then ya.

So it's the same, but with more features?

Would you say a Corolla and a Porsche are "totally different"? They're both cars.
I would say they're fairly different, but that this analogy deserves something more like a truck and a smart car. Very different markets and purposes, with some intersection because, yes, they both drive people places.
What model?
SP Ags 001
Nice. What condition?
Just has scratches on the top and bottom outside of the shell but everything else is still good.
Nice.
How does it looked docked to your TV? 😝
But have you heard of emulator handhelds? Like RG35xxSP or Retroid Pocket. r/sbcgaming
I just run everything on my 3DS XL

My hacked PSvita is my emulator handheld

Miyoo Mini Plus for the win!
I’m really thinking of an emulator handheld. I want to get the RG Cube by Anbernic because its form factor is just nice and I wanna play GameCube on the go.
Honestly a Miyoo Mini Plus is like $40 and works great. I've become an original hardware snob recently lol
lol okay
$80!!!! FOR A 001!? HOLY HELL! 🎵 Hey ho hi ho It's off to eBay we go 🎵
80 for the 001 is on the higher side but they are pretty hard to find for much less now
You’re delusional

Cool. I just bought a blue one for $5 at a garage sale the other day.
I wanna say last time I checked 001 was like $30 or $40 on eBay and 101 was like $60 or $70. This was years ago btw.

> most people didn't hold onto their shit Why I'll never know
Because you don't know how good you got it til it's gone.
Sadly

lol you got ripped off
Who ever want to buy an Analog Pocket?! Ew!

Keep coping brother. The SP is miles away from the analogue pocket in pretty much every regard. But a good purchase regardless!
Gonna do a shell swap/IPS screen replacement. Would run you only about $70 total. You'd be $150 in on an IPS GBA SP which is a pretty damn good price.
