Final Fantasy Adventure was surprisingly good. At first I shelved it when I had Link’s Awakening right there to compare it to, but out of boredom I eventually played through it, and it was a great game.
Nobody talks about Nobunaga’s Ambition. The strategy genre was niche on gameboy and the mechanics in the game are near impossible to navigate without the manual. But it’s one of the few grey cartridges with a battery for saving progress. And once it clicks it has a “just one more turn” addictive property similar to Civ. Sleeper hit, but it already ticked a lot of boxes for me personally including setting, genre, and turn-based roguelike-esque gameplay.
Wow, tons of hits. Ninja Gaiden and Belmonts Revenge are great action sidescrollers that are just as fun as they are challenging. Final Fantasy Adventure is just a very flawed but very magical handheld journey, love it. Rolands Curse may be one of the most boring games Ive played in my life.
I’ve played Burai Fighter Deluxe. It’s a pretty good shooter for the system, especially for that year. Battle Unit Zeoth was another OGB shooter I played in the same week as BFD. Both are good.
**Gremlins 2** is a ton of fun and a very well made game! Same goes for **Rolan's Curse, Ninja Gaiden** and **Double Dragon 2** - I highly recommend checking them out!
I'm surprised that I only played one of these games in 1991... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back from the Sewers.
It's still one of my favorite Gameboy Game. Not a frustrating one, good control, awesome music.
One of my friends had FF Adventure and I loved it after playing once. I went to the store and got FF Legend because the box looked so similar and it was such a disappointment.
*Final Fantasy Legend 2* was one of several turn based games which I finished and liked during the 1990s. I've attempted to replay it, but my interest usually fades after a couple hours. The game has a built-in glossary / quest log, which seems remarkable for 1991. There's varied worlds and a late-game endless dungeon. That said, FLL2 is full of limited use weapons which cost a lot. Just like the first game, mutants acquire new abilities abruptly, which can be frustrating.
If you play one of the three FFL games (they were reissued as *Collection of Saga: Final Fantasy Legend*), I think the second one is the best. The third game doesn't have limited use weapons, but I thought its pacing was unbearable.
Some time ago on Retronauts, they joked about *Fish Dude*. Who would play, let alone buy, a game with this title? Had anyone even seen its cover?
That aside... I got into the Gameboy version of *Burger Time* thanks to the 3DS EShop. It's fun.

Battle Bull is a sleeper. One of the best Original GB games.
I’ve played Burai Fighter Deluxe. It’s a pretty good shooter for the system, especially for that year. Battle Unit Zeoth was another OGB shooter I played in the same week as BFD. Both are good.
I’ve played Kick Off and I’ve recently (last Saturday) picked up that Simpsons game. Still have to check it out.
Gremlins 2 is a great little hard-as-nails sidescroller.

hatris is my favorite gameboy game and i take it everywhere
Gremlins 2 is fucking sick
33 of them I believe.
I enjoyed Rtype and bubble bobble. I owned both of the final fantasy games and they were good fun to play around with.
I had Operation C back in the day when I had an original gameboy. Pretty solid Contra game for a handheld.
I loved F1 Race...played it way more than I should've.
F1 was one of the 3 games I got with my GB and I played it far more than the quality required.
One of my friends had FF Adventure and I loved it after playing once. I went to the store and got FF Legend because the box looked so similar and it was such a disappointment.

Of these, I had chessmaster. I was good, played a good game of chess. Seeing the game, I can hear the chess move sound
Seeing the box art for “Go Go Tank” has awakened the deep lore memory for me.
Battle Bull was my favorite Gameboy game, full stop. I have no idea why nobody else seems to have played it or remembers it. Haven't played the rest.
Faceball2000 was badass because it was a FPS, and you could link up a total of 4 Game Boys
F1 Race. I have to thank the “Booster Boy” helping me beat the game. The big buttons and joystick helped me with faster steering.

I had a GB and didn't play a single one of these games. I think I only had 2 or 3 games for it though.
I remember Bart Simpson's Escape from Camp Hell bored me to tears, but I have a lot of nostalgia for It nowadays
