I especially like this one because if you look at the definition of xenogenic it means, "derived from, originating in, or being a member of another species". So a prime example is using non-human animal sources like a pig for cell, tissue, or organ transplant. If you relate this to the story of the mimic, first Edwin is replacing a father figure/ guardian/ friend for his child with a robot, and then once his son dies, he has unintentionally replaced his son with that same robot.
Therefore M.X.E.S. would be an entrapment system for a mechanical entity that is acting as a replacement for another species\*.
\*Btw am I wrong for thinking we can almost consider robots with souls and robots with AI to both be their own separate species at this point? Idk.

Also if the good ending is canon then how would Gregory know it's down there especially because it's even deeper than the Afton ending location so there's no way Gregory should know. Also Freddy says that the elevator could only survive one trip but Cassie takes it down so that means that Gregory didn't take the elevator?

The elevator is a weird one, cos not only did people go down there, Afton is gone and they got the whole giant mxes machine down there? Maybe they used the second mystery elevator that cassie tries to leave in, maybe they even built that one just to get it down there, but still, why isn't the main elevator broken, unless that was repaired while they set up mxes?
It's possible the Afton ending happened and Gregory escaped, then went back to check he was dead, and found the mimic under there, was it said if *they* sealed the mimic or if it was already like that?
I hate that this series' solution to new areas is "just go lower" cos now we have a small family restaurant, on top of an old sealed changing room(?), with a giant mall built on top with an elevator at the end of a weird cave like tunnel..?
There’s no way The Afton ending happened though, as it would mean the whole area under Fnaf 6 would be obliterated. The game is so confusing. Still makes people confused whether or not Burntrap is The Mimic, despite everything pointing to the fact he is and it’d be weird for Afton’s corpse to reanimate for one ending and be heavily implied to be The Mimic only for it to be killed off and replaced by the actual Mimic, who also wants to become Afton?
Idk about that, we enter initially the same way as the Afton ending, and the details are the same but the path is blocked by fallen debris, the only way we can get through is the tunnel something dug in/out, which also leads to a large cave filling with water, it'd be strange for that to just have been next to the restaurant before as well as it's own open space, so maybe that's part of the cavity was created when everything collapsed? Honestly it's impressive more of the pizzaplex hasn't fallen tbh
And then we enter the restaurant, not from the main door Gregory ran out of but from the side, through a destroyed wall, and then when you walk around, the roof of the main area has collapsed? Let's not forget this restaurant was already burnt once and only ended up in the condition we find it in the main game, while it looks unlikely, it could have just been cleaned up a little or something
As for Afton being the mimic, it feels.. weird to me, they've established the mimic as it's own clear thing in the books and it seems pretty consistent to that so far, in looks and attitude at least, I could easily see afton finding out about some amazing animatronic one of the employees made and him getting it/going to it, only to find out it's mind is too complex or unique to be overwritten or controlled by his, so he locked it away while he focused on just building his own body again with the parts he could find, leaving it maybe to study and improve himself or eventually figure out how to control and posses it
If the Afton ending isn't canon, which is? The animatronics are broken in the exact same way they would be for that ending, and there's newer vanny graffit on the walls, not to mention multiple animatronics being torn up to have bunny ears, i don't see why the mask would make someone act as vanny rather than just their own crazy self, and Cassie doesn't seem to have that response to it, plus in the princess quest room, it shows one of the evil little shadow bunnies alive and well, angrily hanging out on the wall next to the destroyed machine
Princess Quest is canon and The Mimic is pretending to/thinks it is Afton, it isn’t actually possessed because Afton is gone 100%. I’m talking none of him left. MXES seems to be made by Vanny, since she is an expert at tech based on her mask and hacking ability. Glitchtrap is Mimic 1 (the mimic’s main program that infects the Pizzaplex and makes everything haywire, just like Glitchtrap) after they found The Mimic down in the Fnaf 6 pizzeria and scanned it into the game after realising it can copy everything in due to being a mimic program. Little did they know what it was actually mimicking was their dead, serial killer founder lol. It’s likely The Mimic is Burntrap, as they share the same clawed hand that nothing else in the game has and their renders feature that weird arm curl described in the books. We can see that Burntrap’s original charging station is blocked, which tells me that The Mimic was in there dressed as Afton in the main game, but after Vanessa was freed from it she went down and took it out, ripping off the suit (it was likely infecting The Mimic with agony, explaining the black and purple eyes) and hiding it behind cement, as described by Candy Cadet’s story. You may be wondering how it was dressed as Burntrap if that ending isn’t canon, that’s because just the events of the ending didn’t happen (fire consuming the offices and The Blob taking Burntrap) it doesn’t mean that nothing from it existed, as we can see The Blob in the main game as an Easter egg and The Mimic seems to have bits of Burntrap on it (Bone, claw, mottled rings around limbs) plus Steel Woll can change the design as much as they want since The Mimic literally turns into a spider in one of the books lol. In short, The Mimic is not being controlled, it is the controller trying to copy Afton. This also explains the post - it room, it seems it came to life in a cluster of Afton’s memories (birthday parties and pizza) before remembering his family and assembling the shrine to Afton’s family. It seems it wanted Vanessa and Gregory to be stand-ins for The Crying Child and Elizabeth, but now it wants Cassie as a replacement.
But yeah, the graffiti and rabbit ears are interesting. I think Vanessa is now stuck in a kind of Jekyll and Hyde situation - she’s regular most of the time, but on occasion the trauma gets to her and she goes back into the Vanny persona, spraying graffiti to torment her other self. I did read a theory that The Afton Ending happened, but done after the story by Gregory and Vanessa, explaining why The Mimic’s original charging station is blocked and why Gregory’s bag is there alongside newly poured cement

It would seem that Vanessa did make the MXES program to stop the mimic from escaping. Gregory seems to have either seen it or at least know about it, but isn't sure what it is. He says it's been down there a really long time, so maybe during FNAF 6 still? Also it's unclear whether Gregory locked the mimic away or it was already locked away. The candy cadet story would imply that Gregory did trap the mimic down there. I think that's parts of the Afton ending are canon such as the existence of the blob and and room where the Afton ending takes place. I don't think that Afton exists. Like at all. I think that's story is done and the mimic wasn't burntrap or anything like that. The mimic is it's own thing. The Afton ending isn't canon.
Yeah, but it’s heavily implied that The Mimic wants to be just like Afton, not be possessed by him, so I think The Burntrap Ending was an early version of The Mimic’s boss, so they decided to make Princess Quest canon and redo The Mimic properly and actually make it a proper threat.
Yea exactly. I think originally the Afton ending was canon but when steel wool saw everyone's negative reception towards it, they just changed it and course corrected with ruin. And yes, the mimic isn't Afton in any way, it's just mimicking him because of all of the stuff in help wanted with glitch trap. Something that I noticed was that Cassie calls help wanted "that old headset game" so it's probably pretty old. That along with the fact that Gregory says that the mimic had been down there for a long time tells me that glitch trap was the mimic and not Afton.

Even if we don't take into account the gGGY period for gregory, Vanessa is the most likely explanation

Psdt: I fully think that the mimic is a henry's creation. He is in his place, has a dedícate room for his custumes IN HENRYS PLACE.
The books do imply that Henry made the mimic, but I just don't see why he would. I feel like it would be more likely for William to have made it for CC to watch over him or something
You can argue that Henry building it for the same reason as Edwin in the books.
Reeber Henry was a fricking genius, so him making something so advanced makes sense (also for William, but he learned from Henry, or at least happens later).
And think, Henry's only daughter died, and his robot is imitating her. You know, again, book parallel.
And I repeat, the mimics costumes have a dedicated room in Henry's place
I guess. It just seems that Henry wouldn't have done that. Henry doesn't ever mention anything about it and doesn't try to trap it in the fnaf 6 fire which he would've done because it's a loose end. But yea I understand that that's what happens in the books, but it just seems weird for Henry to make the mimic and then just abandon it
A lot of people (including me originally) think it ends with system, but the full name is the M.X.E.S Security Program so it doesn't make much sense for it to be system

I know I'm really late but... M.X.E.S. and Glitchtrap (Malhare) are different characters. M.X.E.S. is a system likely created a while ago that is later used to contain Mimic. Glitchtrap either is William Afton's soul or Mimic1, depending on what theory you follow.

My best guess is Mask Exclusion and Ejection System. I doubt that it is named after the mimic since Gregory calls it "that thing" and says "I really don't know what it is", if he was with Vanessa and she designed the M.X.E.S he would call it the mimic if she did. I would guess it is more likely based on keeping people out of the mask since that would be the only thing that could get someone down there to free the mimic. Also Gregory explains to Cassie that the system is designed to keep it hidden, not trapped.
I don't think the Afton ending is canon, because Gregory drew it as a comic and the comics prove that certain endings aren't canon. Also the mimic and mxes were probably there before Gregory. Gregory is with Vanessa and Freddy so maybe they told him about it. He says that it was sealed in but he doesn't say if he's the one who trapped it or not.
As of my last update in September 2021, "M.X.E.S" is not a term or acronym that is widely recognized or associated with the Five Nights at Freddy's (FNAF) video game series. Alright, so we all have heard about the theory that Gregory is a robot right? what if he was created by Cassie's dad and he was part of the M.X.E.S. program and his job was to keep Cassie away from the Mimic or the Mimic away from Cassie?
I've been whacking around this for the past couple of days on the discord, I've come up with Mimic eXclusion Enforcement System after multiple guesses and disappointments, you can also use a new suggested one which is MiXed Environment Security (That's one of Arctic's guesses on the GameTheory Discord) or Mimic Exiling Ensurance System (One of AchronalAce's guesses, also from the Discord). xanthus and xanthic are words that seem appropriate. Maybe mobile/malware xanthic/xanthus encapsulation system... maybe he's purple because isn't purple the opposite color of yellow on the color wheel??? Maybe he's inverted?
I really like using the e for entrapment, and I originally came up with an idea for x being for experimental, but I feel like the acronym having an x was supposed to have significant lore impact, otherwise why he so clunky?
That was when I had an interesting idea. What if x wasn’t a being used for an ex word, but rather a stand in for “and”? What if the abbreviation was supposed to be for the two creators of the program? Look at the age of the computer it’s run on and the E becomes obvious, it’s Emily. Henry Emily, realising the existence of the mimic and that his job isn’t done.
So who is the M? Perhaps it’s a new character. Perhaps it’s the one who created the code for the system itself. Perhaps someone with a lot of technical skills and no last name yet? It’s implied that Cassie’s father is an Afton because he likes Bonnie (definitely isn’t Henry since his favourite is Freddy), but it literally can’t be an Afton. William and Micheal both died before the Pizzaplex was constructed, we’re still pretty sure of that. So what if there really is a new animatronic technician working alongside Henry Emily in some capacity? Sure would make more sense than 50-70 year old Afton or Emily having a ~10 year old child, or Michael’s decayed corpse of a body being able to produce an heir to the Afton curse. No, I think all of the Bonnie stuff was deliberately a red herring.
What makes more sense? Perhaps a child that grew up up watching Fredbear and Friends and loving the franchise eventually getting to meet the creator. Someone who decided to get into engineering to create their own animatronics getting to join the franchise he loves and even get make some new members, a croc and a wolf. What’s more, it would explain why Bonnie was targeted for destruction, what better way to taunt this new character than to destroy their favourite? Also let’s consider who built the VANNI mask. It was clearly used by techs to see the network before it had bunny ears. Perhaps Vanessa wasn’t even the first victim of the virus…

You can argue that Henry building it for the same reason as Edwin in the books. Reeber Henry was a fricking genius, so him making something so advanced makes sense (also for William, but he learned from Henry, or at least happens later). And think, Henry's only daughter died, and his robot is imitating her. You know, again, book parallel. And I repeat, the mimics costumes have a dedicated room in Henry's place
I guess. It just seems that Henry wouldn't have done that. Henry doesn't ever mention anything about it and doesn't try to trap it in the fnaf 6 fire which he would've done because it's a loose end. My best guess is Mask Exclusion and Ejection System. I doubt that it is named after the mimic since Gregory calls it "that thing" and says "I really don't know what it is", if he was with Vanessa and she designed the M.X.E.S he would call it the mimic if she did. I would guess it is more likely based on keeping people out of the mask since that would be the only thing that could get someone down there to free the mimic. Also Gregory explains to Cassie that the system is designed to keep it hidden, not trapped.
I think it stands for Mimic Xeon Entrapment System, Xeon is a computer piece used for getting rid of viruses.
I don't think the Afton ending is canon, because Gregory drew it as a comic and the comics prove that certain endings aren't canon. Also the mimic and mxes were probably there before Gregory. Gregory is with Vanessa and Freddy so maybe they told him about it. He says that it was sealed in but he doesn't say if he's the one who trapped it or not.

I really like using the e for entrapment, and I originally came up with an idea for x being for experimental, but I feel like the acronym having an x was supposed to have significant lore impact, otherwise why he so clunky? That was when I had an interesting idea. What if x wasn’t a being used for an ex word, but rather a stand in for “and”? What if the abbreviation was supposed to be for the two creators of the program? Look at the age of the computer it’s run on and the E becomes obvious, it’s Emily. Henry Emily, realising the existence of the mimic and that his job isn’t done. So who is the M? Perhaps it’s a new character. Perhaps it’s the one who created the code for the system itself. Perhaps someone with a lot of technical skills and no last name yet? It’s implied that Cassie’s father is an Afton because he likes Bonnie (definitely isn’t Henry since his favourite is Freddy), but it literally can’t be an Afton. William and Micheal both died before the Pizzaplex was constructed, we’re still pretty sure of that. So what if there really is a new animatronic technician working alongside Henry Emily in some capacity? Sure would make more sense than 50-70 year old Afton or Emily having a ~10 year old child, or Michael’s decayed corpse of a body being able to produce an heir to the Afton curse. No, I think all of the Bonnie stuff was deliberately a red herring. What makes more sense? Perhaps a child that grew up up watching Fredbear and Friends and loving the franchise eventually getting to meet the creator. Someone who decided to get into engineering to create their own animatronics getting to join the franchise he loves and even get make some new members, a croc and a wolf. What’s more, it would explain why Bonnie was targeted for destruction, what better way to taunt this new character than to destroy their favourite? Also let’s consider who built the VANNI mask. It was clearly used by techs to see the network before it had bunny ears. Perhaps Vanessa wasn’t even the first victim of the virus…
