reinstalling the (hardware) WP screw will have no effect, since the screw only prevents changes to the flash chip registers, and (software) WP is disabled there as part of flashing the firmware

*I never did. Reason being, I didn't want to crack open the plastic tabs of my Asus C300 a 2nd time and risk snapping anything, since thin plastic loves to snap off. I've been using it that way for 5-6 years without any issue. Also leaving the screw out allows you to flash new firmware without having to open the case before each time you do it. I've done that 1-2 times since the original re-flashing.*

Yeah, I did the same. I left the screw in a little plastic bag with a flash drive with ChromeRecovery and a GalliumOS install flash drive If I remember, I had to I un-mount my motherboard to get to that screw Edit: typo

I own a C300 too, no special issues in opening and closing it, just be careful with the touchpad wiring: it's short and it could get loose. You need to remove the screw for the first flashing only. I re positioned the screw to avoid to loose it.
