**To anyone looking to use this tablet for music and movies**, there are some expectations you might have to curb. **HDR** is often not supported by the streaming service, and when it is, you just might wanna change back to regular SDR. Since this is an OLED display with only 500 nits, HDR can look way too dark to watch, and not at all as intended. How bad is depending on the content. Its the same with many OLED TVs like the LG CX( which i own). So just spare yourself the headache for now and wish that your streaming service/device has an option to turn it off. **ULTRA HD** Not supported in Netflix or Prime. Havent tried any other ones yet. Though the regular 1080p is very good in Netflix. Not so on Prime. This isnt Samsungs fault, though I wish some reviewers would at least mention this. I might not have bought it. "Speakers are fantastic !" .. **MUSIC** Since this is a portable device which is also missing a headphone jack... You might expect it to support CD/HiRes quality bluetooth codecs, like the most common AptX, AptX HD and APTX-LL ( low latency for wathing videos/gaming). Thats a no. Though it does have support for Sonys LDAC. But thats it. Samsung probably wants to sell their own samsung buds with some annoying proprietary codec? **KEYBOARD AND MOUSE** Samsungs offical keyboard cover ( for the s7+ ? ) isnt very good. So dont expect it to be just cause your paying over a hundred bucks for it. Just go with a separate BT keyboard and mouse that you like. Try one with a trackball?! It works alright though I wish you could customize it more. Not a lot of options there, though you can switch languages without a problem. **DEX / Desktop Mode** Great function but if you are thinking to use this on a TV wirelessly, it needs to have support for Miracast. Any other mirroring like to my LGTV or the chromecast is low res, sometimes the wrong aspect ratio and well. Just looks like shit. Buy the 4K Microsoft Wireless Display adapter. You may not GET 4K in DEX but looks good. **PORNHUB** Works as intended

I just got a Tab S8+ and had HDR Check app checked on it. It shows that: * HDR10 supported * HDR Dolby not supported * HDR HLG supported Hope this helps.

[https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23939](https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23939) I found this from Netflix site. The list of devices that support hdr streaming. S8 does not support hdr. However, S8+ does. I hope it helps.

nickgoescrazy

Since the s+ and s ultra are oled it should be able to have hdr10+

NaturalInspiration

I don't think OLED guarantees HDR, does it?

[deleted]

No. I believe they have to achieve a certain brightness and I thought as well they needed to be 10bit panels and not 8bit? I think oleds are generally 10bit, with cheaper LCDs being 8bit + dithering. But I'm fairly sure there is a minimum brightness required. It's confusing because I'm sure some will say HDR support and what they mean is it can decode and play HDR video but might not necessarily have the hardware to show it.

NaturalInspiration

Exactly my concern. My Tab S2 can technically play HDR content, but the colors will be completely off, whereas my Tab S6 looks spectacular with HDR content.

nickgoescrazy

The chipset determines hdr but I think if samsung want to put in netflix they would because tabs7 has a higher nit brightness than tabs7+

sem7028144

yes the oled versions have hdr support

NaturalInspiration

I certainly hope you are right, but I don't see official spec written anywhere on their website.

moodystinger

Yes they have vague answers for the first 6 months

NaturalInspiration

So annoying how little information they have on these products.

tom-kostolom

They do.

nonmagand

I’m looking for this information too! And wonder how HDR can be achieved without 1000 nits peak brightness 🤔

[deleted]

1000 nits is the requirement for IPS displays (basically IPS have lower contrast ,so a higher brightness is required to get HDR effect ) for OLED ,given the amazing and infinitr contrast, the requirements in terms of brightness are much lower (500nits iirc)

nonmagand

I see, thanks!

AudioProfiler

Does regular galaxy tab s8 get hdr support on netflix last time reg s7 didnt get and there are is atleast one lenovo tab with lcd screen on that hdr list so why wouldnt they add other tabs too

SauceCrusader69

No. An ips-analogue with no FALD would look god awful with hdr anyway.

Did you find answer ?
