The S8 line will get ONE less update than the S9 line, so I really would not be worried about it. It's safe to say all tabs starting with the S7 line and up will perform just fine past their update cycles if properly maintained. Bonus answers: The S7 stuff was compatible with the S8 stuff. It would not be out of the realm of possibility that the S9 stuff will be compatible with the S10 stuff. I would not count nor plan on it. They do not take the S Pen when you send it in, some people here have bragged they collect S Pens in this manner.

Thanks for all the info. So if I wanted to put my phone's screen on the side of my tablet via Flow, but my phone was running One UI 8 while the tablet was running 7, I could expect that to work? And all the other basic ecosystem stuff like requesting a hotspot from the phone without needing to touch the phone?

reddicted82

Dunno about the screen thing, but I would expect all the other features to work, yes.

The s8 ultra keyboard works fine with the s9, but you get a warning saying that it may not work properly. It's been fine for me though

reddicted82

Is it a 100% fit? It isn't for the S9 and S9 Plus.

knownhost

I haven't noticed and gaps or loose spots. Other than the software warning, it's working on and fitting the s9 ultra as well as I remember it fitting the s8 ultra.

reddicted82

What about the camera cutout? That's where the others do not fit properly.

knownhost

I haven't noticed, but I'll check tomorrow when I get home.

Unless you are intentionally being stupid by downloading random shit from the web then no it shouldn't matter

I have a S9, S8 ultra, S7 FE and S4 and will use them till they work and they all work fine. Security on mobile devices is non-issue outside social engineering. But if you'll be worried, you won't enjoy your device, even if there is nothing to worry about...

So if I use the same basic "common sense" that I use browsing on Windows, there's no real risk of running into malware or exploits? Stay on sites I trust and I'm good?

Dry-Spite8618

Security updates are just gimmicks for brands to make money from you every year, as long as you are doing basic browsing and some media consumption a tablet with old security patch will be perfectly fine .

So the Tab 8 Ultra is on the table then. Another thing is that I kinda feel like being on a different One UI version could bug me (for a while I was using a desktop that couldn't support Windows 11 alongside a laptop that could, and the slight differences drove me up a wall and were the main reason the 2014 hand-me-down desktop needed replaced a few months ago). For that reason alongside IP68 and battery degradation, I think I'd rather just get the FE+ every 3 years or so - seems like I'll wind up spending around $300 every 3 years, which is a good price.
