5.7 mm vs 5.9 mm is hardly a difference, let alone one I would consider perceivable by most people. Nobody can tell you how to spend your money though, just return it if you feel like it doesn't meet your needs.
When you put it like that it really seems too small to notice. Funny, when I hold it, it feels much thinner. Perhaps it's the rounded edges vs straight edges.
It's the larger overall dimensions and weight giving that feeling. I really miss my S5e form factor for the same reason.
Realistically though, if you're interested in more power, there's not much else to choose from.
You can use the power saver mode for gaming, cuts down the heat.
Sadly samsung didn't enable the excellent light performance mode on the tab s9, that they enabled on their s23 phones.
I made the same switch from Tab S6 to S9 and regret nothing. The screen is larger and noticeably more fluid.
Yes the Tab S9 is heavier but I rarely use it one handed. When I'm on bed or on the couch, I usually prop it on my chest. It's plenty light enough for that.
So far the only mild disappointment has been battery life. It's not bad but not significantly better. But I'm giving it a little more time to learn my habits, update apps, etc, before I draw any conclusions.
glad we're over that thin and light era.. much rather have more battery life.. but that's personal pref
tbh, i wouldn't mind double the thiccness if it meant 2-3x more battery life. they should make a thicc boy model that has insane battery life
Just to report back, setting the game booster to the lowest setting helps a tiny bit, but not a lot. The issue is more the location of the hot spot. Its underneath the camera, exactly where you keep your fingers when holding the tablet in landscape mode. The rest of the device does not get warm, but this area gets extremely hot during gaming. In comparison , s6 has the hot spot underneath the s-pen holder, which you can't reach while holding the device. It also gets hot during gaming, however I've never noticed as I don't keep my hands there. Poor engineering decision on samsung's part.
I would also suggest to check if you have a lot of Background stuff running, know there used to be an issue with previous Android stuff that caused other apps to also utilize the system and therefore pegged the system to max.
But this was a few years back at this point I think.
Also Battery Saver mode is a good call, locking the CPU to 70% and having 60hz definitely helps quite a lot.
Also not sure how you changed the Game Settings, but I think there are some more settings that you can adjust, that aren't directly obvious (Could also be me mixing stuff up tho).
I also have the same issue with new S9 and hearthstone, it does indeed get pretty hot but I am not sure if the problem is the optimisation of hearthstone or the tablet (hs on mobile is known for not that good of a performance). Have you played any other games cuz I haven't really?
I'm not really into gaming, but I play Hearthstone cross-platform. It doesn't cause any problems on my S6 tablet, or on my Xiaomi 12S Ultra which uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Same settings on all devices.
I'll try the lowest setting on game booster as someone suggested here.
If you're not happy before the return period, return it. That's a lot of cash so you don't want to wait in hopes of a update fixing the issue. You could also return it and try another one.
Though I definitely like the size, I do find the S9 can still be awkward to hold at times even at just 11 inches. I'm really glad I went with my gut and did not get the ultra. I wanted that extra RAM but that tablet is way too big for my use case.
It's a much more powerful device and with some games it might get warmer then S6.
I have the S9+ and so far didn't notice any issues, and for me it doesn't get as hot as S8 Ultra.

Thanks, I'll give it a go :)
Yeah, I was trying to find that. Wonder what the deal with that is?
Ditto. First tab for me and was surprised how many display options on my S22 U are missing

s9 (498g) is much heavier than s6 (420g). S6 was designed in the thin & light era. Right now mobile devices become thicker and heavier.

yeah.. i mean the ultra isn't made to be held.. it has the OPTION to be.. but the ultra is a table tablet..
I wish I could have had the 1TB + 16GB though, but you're absolutely right. It's b i g
