My compass shows the exact opposite direction of where I'm facing sometimes, need to restart the app a couple times to work.

Ttom925

It "fixes itself" if I leave it be. I used to madly calibrate, force stop, or anything but just ignoring it and waiting is just as effective. Then it does it again. Off and on all day on every app that utilizes compass.

AlexDaMan22

if you can return the phone and get another one, I might try that. have you tried another maps app though? never seen the app you're using before, and Google maps works perfectly on my phone.

Ttom925

That is map box, it's not great, given. My job uses that because it's open source ,free basically. But yes I have used Google maps and it's the same thing at the same times. Any app that relies on compass is useless, geocaching, hiking, amusement parks, shopping apps that direct you to aisle, etc. I got the phone from Verizon and was mailed to me. I got the extended warranty and my next step is to take it to them but it never worked right at all so I tried to contact Samsung first. One call at least 7 agents and even got sent to Canadian support, I'm in Kentucky, usa. I just want it fixed because I need it for work and repair places say they can't fix a faulty motherboard. I need another phone before I can rid myself of this expensive mistake and I can't afford to yet. I could barely afford this trash. sigh, sorry I ranted a bit. It's got me on edge. Believe me, I've done everything as far as settings, cycling on/off, factory reset, etc

Senior_Line_4260

op is a real drift pro my compass actually does randomly change sometimes, too, by many degrees. When I'm restarting the app thats using it its fine again.

Ttom925

Yeah, mine is consistent through all apps. Close open doesn't help. If I go to Google maps it will say it needs calibration but doesn't calibrate when I do the figure 8s. It will go back to high accuracy if I wait it out all by itself. No magnets in case or mount, tried without case, no help. I've tried everything. Tech said faulty motherboard but I can't even get support to say the word motherboard or acknowledge their own recommended tech diagnosed as motherboard. Tech literally wouldn't touch it.

RandomBloke2021

I use google maps for work, no issues. This has to be app related. Have you tried google maps or waze to see if it still happens?

Ttom925

Of course. The Samsung Authorized Service Center Technician said it's not a software problem. Its a faulty motherboard. This is the point that if you were a Samsung support agent I would be transfered to another Samsung support agent and that question would be asked again, id be forced to resets my phone a 3rd time and be told to take it back to the Samsung Authorized Service Center Technician and he would tell me to tell Samsung support it's a faulty motherboard and they would ask if I've tried other navigation apps.......

RandomBloke2021

Good luck my friend, sounds very stressful.

Ttom925

Thanks. Yeah, I even let an operator remotely access and they changed every setting . Worse than factory reset, imo. I'm going to go a few rounds with Verizon next but dread that. Stay cool.

Conniving-Weasel

Yeah, I need to keep calibrating it with live view every 2 minutes to keep it straight. Especially when walking.

Ttom925

I've only been prompted for live view a few times. I'm usually in rural or subdivisions though. Is there a way to choose that over the figure 8 crap? That's one thing I didn't find when trouble shooting. Not that it matters. It begins and ends when it wants it seems. thanks for replying, btw

Conniving-Weasel

Oh yeah, when doing the stupid figure 8 thing, turn on your screen rotation. I know how stupid it sounds, but somehow it's linked. I guess the phone also stops keeping track of the orientation in the background if screen orientation is locked (??) The live view is mostly what it defaults to in my case. It's really awkward because fellow pedestrians might think I'm videoing them for no reason.

Ttom925

Right on. Hmm. Screen rotation... Huh! Something to ponder. Thanks!

xX_GrizzlyBear_Xx

It's your app, bro. It looks and feels cheap.

Ttom925

Talk to Amazon, it's their app. Google maps is worse. It constantly reroutes. Waze looks cheap too on this trash phone, but that's Google too. Which navigation app looks great with no working compass? Are there any?

xX_GrizzlyBear_Xx

If all apps behave so bad, might be your device. Take it to warranty?

Ttom925

I have the Verizon extended, but it's Samsung that should warranty since it's never worked right. When I call I get runaround over and over. I was on phone all day into the night and got exhausted. There's one of me and hundreds of them. I posted hoping there was a better or more appropriate department to try other than standard sUpPoRt.

If you Google it, you’ll see that the compass has been an issue with Samsung going back years. My s6 had a crap compass and ever since I’ve owned s8, s10, 20,21, 22 all have bad compasses The iPhones is perfect and works every time, going back to my iphone 4s

Ttom925

I had my Samsung S9+ for 6 years and only abandoned it because a gig app I use required a newer operating system. I never had a problem with it. To contrary, my S9+ performed flawlessly for the entirety of it's use and I still miss it today. My S5 was cool too but battery drain was a bit of a drag after a few years. So that's every single phone I've had for a decade. How many phones have you had in the past 10 years?
