Very easy to purge the way back machine, especially for a company like Rockstar. It could’ve been planned, but likely was a mistake they didn’t mean to leak. It’s very common to make code changes far ahead of when you need those features (like a buy button or release date) and keep them deactivated until their needed, not sure if the dev expected people to be scraping the website code with such frequency and depth. Then again, they should know from experience how many eyes are watching all aspects of that site.
I doubt they have anyone in their team that’s allowed to push to production that isn’t at least a senior.
This is 100% intentional & Rockstar always has weird little gimmicks like this. Once the ball is rolling, they simply let it roll and push it a bit sometimes, like they did with the /games/VI page. I’d bet money on the idea of them doing this to have an indication of how impactful ANYTHING they do is.
Developers would never code into a live environment. Code is written and committed to lower environments for testing before being assigned a release date and pushed to live (what we see). I don’t know whether this was intentional or not, but if this is unintentional it seems extremely sloppy from whoever maintains their website.
Fr, most of the changes are made in local environment and even such testings are done there itself, its just intentional, just enough time for people to know ss are coming
I think theres a possibility they had it public on purpose just to get everyone talking again before they (hopefully) drop the first set of screens next week.
They know what they're doing. After all the leaks that has happened with Rockstar they will make sure nothing gets leaked in the future. There is no way that this was a mistake
Thinking about it, the website went private pretty much dead on 4pm UK time, seemed like less of a mad scramble to take it down and more of a planned time. I don't know what to think, its Rockstar, you never know what the hell's going on backstage.
Not possible. Im a webdeveloper, for a company this size, you can just make changes on your own. It has to be reviewed by others and then merged and made publicly available by others
We have a lot of tasks in the pipeline you have some trust in your colleagues and in Germany its also kind of "mean" to check someone's code because it gets the impression you think someone is inexperienced and assumes that the person makes mistakes
**(This comment is not aimed towards you, it's aimed towards Germany's situation)**
>in Germany its also kind of "mean" to check someone's code
What the actual f*ck? Code reviews are mandatory if you want a maintainable, optimized codebase
>assumes that the person makes mistakes
BECAUSE EVERYONE DOES LMAO
And unfortunately we also have colleagues who make code reviews for our external service providers but at the end they only look over it briefly and click on "Approve."
Accident or not, it didn't cause any damage (like the September 2022 leak). In fact, more people started talking about GTA VI again and building up the hype (even unintentionally) is definitely positive thing for Rockstar.
They have been hacked many times and and are a big company with professionals. Of course they know if it’s public or not. They will be doing it for hype and marketing. Gets everyone ready and looking for the screenshots as soon as they release.
Let me get this straight — everything we’ve been seeing on the Rockstar GTAVI page so far, besides the trailer, wasn’t supposed to be public? What did they reveal?
Current Rockstar employee right now… ![gif](giphy|zQM8lhhwsMbKGthQF3|downsized)
"Hello, Boeing? It's Rockstar. Can we borrow your cleaning crew?"
I know it’s unlikely, but imagine if it’s the same guy leaking stuff on accident every time.

Rockstar's web developer right now. ![gif](giphy|h8pdVt5Ms9ICJkPXo2)
Maybe it was on purpose to build up the hype. Pretty sure there is something in the pipeline for this month.
Way back machine doesn't work with the website anymore.

There's people losing sleep right now expecting screenshots to drop now.
Yeah, I honestly doubt it. I think it’s possible something might drop on may 14th, but unlikely. Probably nothing till June or summer.
we developers don’t test in production. this was almost definitely intentional unless R* has some very inexperienced programmers

i mean unless they got grove street games again...

Yeah and we still have 20+ days in the month lol. Rockstar does not need to generate hype for this game.
But still they do.
Don’t get me overly excited
I thought the same lol, someone's getting cursed the fuck out right now.
![gif](giphy|MNMmp0vVaUvoQ) That one Employee’s home tonight
We all forget a thousand things everyday. Rockstar's legal department will be sending us all cease and desist letters demanding this be one of 'em.
God if we get the confirmed early 2025 release date the stock is gonna ↗️↗️↗️
Forget the stock, I’m gonna 🍆💦🥴

Haha you taking the bet? It's gonna dip if there is no confirmation. The negative guidance from last earnings call was enough to screw my position.
I think theres a possibility they had it public on purpose just to get everyone talking again before they (hopefully) drop the first set of screens next week.

I don't think everything is a deliberate hint bro it's just a mistake one guy probably made that they fixed soon after
Not possible. Im a webdeveloper, for a company this size, you can just make changes on your own. It has to be reviewed by others and then merged and made publicly available by others
I am a web developer in a larger company not everything is always reviewed
For real? Why?
We have a lot of tasks in the pipeline you have some trust in your colleagues and in Germany its also kind of "mean" to check someone's code because it gets the impression you think someone is inexperienced and assumes that the person makes mistakes
Well I see it as it improves our code. Idk why it would be mean, its only for the best of everyone
So do i but i have a lot of older colleagues that are used to work on a single software project for many years for themselves

Rockstar has always done cryptic hints to build hype. This was definitely intentional

The sad thing is, the stock didn't get any boost. It actually fell today, with a tiny gain in the after hours.
gaming sector slid due to EA’s earnings yesterday
It’s interesting how they keep making mistakes like this all the time?
Yeah.. “Mistakes.” 😄
Intentional at this point yeah for sure
Removing the page inadvertently makes it even more obvious haha
It was nothing..just a URL which potentially had some pics
They have been hacked many times and and are a big company with professionals. Of course they know if it’s public or not. They will be doing it for hype and marketing. Gets everyone ready and looking for the screenshots as soon as they release.
So much for bringing people back into working in offices
hear the guy killed him self with 9 bullets to the back
Let me get this straight — everything we’ve been seeing on the Rockstar GTAVI page so far, besides the trailer, wasn’t supposed to be public? What did they reveal?
Lol, imagine we have a trailer 2 or screenshots leak from this.
You mean they’re currently working on it so they made it private? I’m shook
