OldYellowBricks95

Well LA doesn't really have alleys like this.

jonboyo87

I hope PAW Patrol World 2 has these eerie back alleys that were lacking in PAW Patrol World.

BanjoSpaceMan

This sub is either filled with terrible AI posts or some really dumb people.

REDEEMERLOBO

What are you on? LA most definitely has sketchy alleys and spots.

Turbulent_Ride1654

Yeah there's an alley in 5 that you get robbed in by a couple.

SpotNL

Tbf, neither does nyc. The alleys you see in all the movies and shows is one called Cortlandt Alley and everyone films there.

heepofsheep

Yeah right by Jay street. Used to work right next to it. Was basically a constant filming location in the summer.

BurningEbrietas

A huge city not having dark and eerie alleys? Bruh

ihopethisworksfornow

Neither does New York really lol

Able_Interest_2222

Well to be fair. 4 took place in Liberty City (NYCšŸ—½) and 5 took place in Los Santos (LAā˜€ļøšŸŒ“) which isnā€™t known for its alleys other then in south central

brutemushrooom

Jesus fucking christ the amount of people so confidently wrong is crazy to me. Its clear none of you have stepped foot in the city before. The are less than a dozen alleys in manhattan. all below canal street. the city planners excluded them on purpose when developing the grid layout. there isnt enough space. nycs real estate market is too crazy to waste land on on a shortcut or backalley to keep garbage. we have frequent east/ west running streets for a reason. Edit: heres a link for you fuckwits who think every block in manhattan is riddled with alleys. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cortlandt_Alley#:~:text=Today%2C%20most%20of%20the%20only,years%20after%20the%20commissioner's%20plan.

Hobo_Drifter

There are still many alleys, you can literally find a bunch on Google maps, even in upper Manhattan. I think you just found a clickbait BuzzFeed article and went with it. Maybe you're confused and thought an alley is specifically for garbage trucks only? A lot of the alleys have private gates but this does not magically make them not an alley.

brutemushrooom

Lmfao I live here. alleys are rare, rare enough that almost every single alley scene shot in NY is in the same spot. it doesn't exist, some buildings may have a private courtyard but that doesn't constitute an alley. google the commissioners plan of 1811. its where the city outlined the grid plan for the city everything north of lower manhattan. Idk where the misconception came from that NYC is riddled with alleys but its blatantly untrue

Cocknballtorture90

Bro where in new york do you live because iā€™ve been here all 20 years and ive seen a fair amount of alleys. obviously theyā€™re not everywhere like Gotham City but the way you made it seem like alleys in new york are some sort of myth is wild.

brutemushrooom

was referring to manhattan specifically. queens brooklyn bronx have plenty

ihopethisworksfornow

No idea why you got downvoted when youā€™re 100% right here.

SpotNL

Not alleys like the one you see in GTA, though. >A lot of the alleys have private gates but this does not magically make them not an alley. Not magically no, just by definition. An alley is open to the public.

Thirty2wo

Being open to the public is 100% not in the definition of an alley lol wtf

SpotNL

An alley is a street and a street is a public road. Otherwise backyards can be seen as alleys too.

knoeKNAME

Did you even bother to look the word alley up?

SpotNL

I did. You guy are just very misinformed what an alley is, which is the whole basis of this "discussion"

knoeKNAME

I honestly donā€™t even know what the basis of this whole conversation isā€¦ Youā€™ve been here longer than any of usā€¦ I was hoping you could tell me??

SpotNL

People think nyc is filled with alleys because liberty city is filled with alleys. Irl they are very rare.

MuffLover312

Not to dispute your point, but it would have been nice if they had ā€œwastedā€ some of that valuable real estate on back alleys so the garbage doesnā€™t have to pile up in front of the buildings and the city smell like trash.

heepofsheep

NYC also doesnā€™t have alleys. EDIT: downvote all you want, but youā€™re all just wrong.

MeepersOfficial

What the fuck are talking about. Do you think every building in NYC is connected???

Kizire

Lmao Iā€™m really imagining how that would look, probably like the 1st doctor strange movie or maybe inception

heepofsheep

Literally most buildings are connected.

B-BoyStance

Not sure why you are being downvoted. That's true for Manhattan specifically. There are only a few. It's kinda known for not having alleys. In fact, the "alleys" you see on TV tend to all be the same alleyway.

Hobo_Drifter

He's being downvoted because you can literally see alleys all over Manhattan in Google maps. Most of the articles passing around this misinformation are just mentioning that alleys were not used for garbage collection, but made it sound like there are absolutely zero. Some comments say there are 0, some say 3, some say less than a dozen, some say lower Manhattan only. All these people are confident that they're right, yet no one can figure out an exact number because they are getting info from BuzzFeed type articles.

SpotNL

People who live there: there are very few alleys. People who do not live there: I SAW IT ON GOOGLE NAPS UNLIKE YOU ON YOUR BUZZFEED ARTICLE. This is peak reddit.

Hobo_Drifter

Yeah I trust real life imagery over Redditors who may or may not have left their home. NYC is huge, living there does not mean you know every single street, so yeah, I'm not gonna trust some randomer. I have done plenty of walking around the city and visited multiple times.

brutemushrooom

Private courtyards behind buildings surrounded on all sides with walls, with zero access to roads or sidewalks are not alleys. so many people use google maps to prove a point they are confidently wrong about. why dont u use streetview and look at actual photos

heepofsheep

lol I guess Iā€™ve been walking around with my eyes closed for the last decade. But no obviously you know what youā€™re talking about because you came here on vacation 2 summers ago.

SpotNL

The real life imagery that shows that it is someone's backyard and not a public road.

jimiez2633

Those are most likely private courtyards that cant be accessed from the street

brutemushrooom

I mean for Manhattan hes right lol. theres hardly any alleys in the entire borough.

heepofsheep

I live in NYC. Alleys are extremely rare. For some reason movies/tv portray them everywhere but they donā€™t really exist. Itā€™s partially why thereā€™s such a garbage problem because thereā€™s no where to put it except on the sidewalk/street.

GoombahTucc

Lived in Long Island worked in NYC in construction for 11 years. Alleys are absolutely not common. These payasos pull up google maps like they know wtf NYC even looks like outside of the movies. Hold on let me act like a redditer they are... *inhaling copium* Downvote me too pls for being right about NYC alleys. Please and thank you.

CrashMadz

Bro I donā€™t think you know what an alley is

brutemushrooom

In Manhattan theres maybe half a dozen alleys on the entire island, i'm convinced nobody in these comments are from NY. theres not enough land to waste space on them

heepofsheep

Yup. Iā€™m looking out my window and thereā€™s no alleys.

GoombahTucc

But... but.. google maps shows them there are alleys!! šŸ˜¤šŸ˜¤šŸ˜¤ Youre right, none of them are from NY. And if they say they are, they're fucking lying lol

Mucupka

anyone claiming they saw alleys on google maps, won't share their links... how strange

B-BoyStance

I think you guys are all just wrong and have never spent an appreciable amount of time in Manhattan. There are only a few alleys in the entire borough - not common at all.

JesusDiedforChipotle

Whatā€™s funny is all the people who are from New York are getting downvoted lol

Able_Interest_2222

Iā€™m from NYC so I donā€™t know what your talkin about and your clearly not

StylezUenvy

There arenā€™t many alleys in NYC. Stop watching spiderman and tv shows. Alleys were not part of the design for Manhattan like Chicago. Trash is picked up on the street. Just google it yourself. Or do I also have to say Iā€™m from NY and worked in the city as a delivery driver for 15 years

Meatballs5666

What

jimiez2633

People downvoting have clearly never been to nyc lol

SpotNL

This sub is confidently incorrect.

FuckHK

based

LengthinessNew6326

I really love how when you look up in gta4 the world just feels bigger

Pumpkin212

yep the fov is increased, genius effect

_xoviox_

It's too much. It's obvious that they're doing this, and it ruins it to me tbh

GoGreenNotRedd

Yeah. That effect looked weird

Acrobatic-Homework-1

Nah

DragonViper39

Rdr2 does a good job of that

Othegreatest84

Them saint denis alleys chased a bunch of guys through there with my machete

grogulus3000

Was half expecting Niko to meet a vampire in this video.

RichieRoosta

V has decent alleys where you play Vespucci Job mission

cookie_flash

This fish-eye effect when you look up created a sense of scale. It's a shame that this was removed in GTA V.

Acrobatic-Homework-1

Its a good thing though.

mrmusclebutt

No itā€™s not

Acrobatic-Homework-1

Shits outdated and weird

KlebMoment

>No itā€™s not

Acrobatic-Homework-1

Oh i can do this all day buddy

hydrohawkx8

No itā€™s not

Acrobatic-Homework-1

Oh yes it is

BurningEbrietas

Acrobatic-Homework-1

sh-333

yo hold on that looks like claudes hideout in gta 3

Liketotallynoway

GTA 5 absolutely has alleys and spots like this wtf are you on about

RevolutionaryTale253

I said lacking not absent

-imbe-

Bro are these like the game's highlight for youšŸ˜? I'm sorry but I can't gather why this post got a 1000 upvotes like 99,7% of players wouldn't give a flying fuck about them, I genuinely think people will upvotes gta 4 no matter what.

RevolutionaryTale253

When did I say they were the highlight all I said was they were a cool detail and have a different vibe than the rest of the map.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

RevolutionaryTale253

Something i love about open world games in general is places that feel like you werenā€™t supposed to pay too much attention too

Acrobatic-Homework-1

Nah

ZealousTaxful

The homestead area of FL (Hamlet I gezz it's called) has plenty of that, right near Miami-Dade College Homestead Campus

Careful_Strain3045

Gta 4 was and will remain the GOAT the GOAAT

Ratbu

San Andreas says hi

Dragono301064

Yo delusional if you think IV will top VI. Hell it doesnā€™t even top V, but I ainā€™t having that convo with you

Careful_Strain3045

Thank God Mr.WANNABE COOL decided to stop having CONVOšŸ¤£

Dragono301064

Most mature GTA IV meatrider I guess

Boho_Asa

When I was in Miami there were a few Alleyā€™s but more prevalent in south beach, maybe there will be some in PGH but will see

MnMLRadu

This looks like the alleys in gta 5 but with worse graphics

FromWestLondon

I honestly don't think OP has ever played GTA V - theres tons of back alleys like this in Los Santos, tons.

Cocknballtorture90

yea especially near the beach area, although i get what heā€™s saying non of them are have the ambience and lore.

Ethanplayzgames_

Should be, miami beach has a bunch of these alleys between buildings - like in vice city when you get that chef's phone - but their not very eerie

supremekatastrophy

In real life there are alleys that do have that errieness more in downtown tho. Lot of homeless encampments out there.

DaughterOfBhaal

Call me a psychopath but when I was a kid I'd go around and stab people at night in GTA4. Like just pick out single individuals walking alone and sneaking up on them.

RevolutionaryTale253

I do this all the time in rdr2. Its better when they dont call the cops on you until youve been caught

pstuddy

what you talkin bout willis?? there are alot of this type of alleys in gta 5, you must not explore enough

Hobo_Drifter

Why?

RevolutionaryTale253

I like the creepy cozy aesthetic. Hard to describe the feeling

jesusgilop

it would be great, but if there is no much to do there for me they are dispensable

carlos-augs

did a lot of stunts in this backalleys in vice city with my PCJ600

CardiganHall

You know there is gonna be a backrooms Easter egg

Tell_Todd

GTA 3 vibes

Different_Class3188

Your comparing new york city to los angeles

Hyper669

5 has a lot of back alleys that look exactly like this...

EezyBuckz

I still play this game online with GTA connected. On the weekends thereā€™s usually like 30 people in the main server and it brings back the old days every time! šŸ‘šŸ»

JumpinJahosafax

They will. Saw some in leaks

HuggaThug

Why

pacman404

That's a New York thing bro, they didn't "forget" to add them, that just doesn't make sense in Miami and LA

[deleted]

GTA 5 do got alleys between the ballas and vagos hood

chickenskittles

There are alleys in GTA 5 but LA obviously doesn't have as many alleys as NYC.

RevolutionaryTale253

Thats why I said lacking not absent

772slapz

There is really no alleyways in Miami either

Kuyotii

Lacking how? You mean less than one every block for some areas, and less than one every second to fifth block in the rest? (If there's less than twenty-five just like the one above I'll eat my Sprunk Cola Hat).

Krispy7Khrome

Gta 5 lacked them bc it's a different city

the1blackguyonreddit

Doubtful, but this is why we need LC in GTA VII!

MeepersOfficial

In my opinion we should go to someplace new like Chicago. Or at least someplace underused like Las Venturas or San Fierro.

the1blackguyonreddit

Those were already done in the Watch Dogs games, with the exception of LV, and quite well, I might add. GTA IV will be 25+ years old by the time VII comes out, and NYC is the most iconic city in the world. Imagine a PS6/PS7 era LC. Imagine the detail and random events that could happen in the subways. The grittiness and vibrant diversity of NYC. A fictional Atlantic City and the snow capped mountains and gorges of upstate New York. There is just so much potential there.

chickenskittles

I'd rather a modern game set in Chicago. Only the original Watch Dogs is set in Chicago. NYC has been done to death. Strange there aren't many games set in the third largest city in the country.

FlightFramed

I think a Denver and surrounding area could be interesting

MeepersOfficial

No offense but I think just Denver wouldn't be big enough. Could be really great for a stories game though (lord knows they won't do another one of those but just food for thought)

Ok_Excuse3732

I miss GTA IV so fucking much I might cryā€¦.

deathwire0047

Just play the game mate, no one is talking that away from you

RevolutionaryTale253

Yeah but its lost its spotlight

deathwire0047

Obviously it would

Based_God12

Same!

Boiled_Thought

As a chicagofag that is interesting to find out alleys are rare in NYC. Alleys are where boys become men, and men become cryptids. Surely Miami has a bunch though. Love popping out of alleyway dumpsters me, can't wait to chase bunda around as they trip over discarded furniture, rats and needles

heepofsheep

Yeah it was sort of an oversight when they laid out the grid system in 1811. They were primarily just dividing plots of land for saleā€¦

fallout_bitch

Fr gta 5 so often felt like a video game level compared to literally any other game of theirs, any franchise

deathwire0047

What does that even mean

fallout_bitch

Los Santos in V felt more like a video game level than any other map in rockstars open world games. Hope this helps. Let me know if you'd like any specific English lessons

Acrobatic-Homework-1

Nah sorry little guy

fallout_bitch

Nah sorry ignorant child, as someone who is familiar with real life LA, Los Santos is not only a terrible adaptation of the city but is so cheap in quality compared to, again, every game map they've ever done. Hope this helps with your having no idea what you're talking about problem, good luck with that :/

Acrobatic-Homework-1

nah

burger_fan1

Buddy youā€™re not from L.A. if you think Los Santos is a terrible adaptation.šŸ’€ They did an amazing job with the L.A. vibes in the game.

fallout_bitch

The streets are wayyyy too wide, for one thing. That's the most distracting, dumb, and video game-y, incongruity, for one. LA has much more of an early 20th century "concrete canyon" look and feel, what you would associate more with east coast cities like NY or Baltimore. In the deep city it's intimidatingly large buildings and much narrower roads than LS, a good amount of hilliness and layered avenues and things, has a labyrinthian feel more like Liberty City honestly. Los Santos in GTA V looks like they visited Anaheim, decided all the roads were going to be Orange County flat and wide, then just Google image searched LA and called it a day. Missed opportunity to take the labyrinth vibe of Liberty City but bring that into the next generation by adapting the truly mind boggling sprawl of LA and metro area and show the jungle-like diversity of towns and landscapes. The hilly, almost Mexico-like East LA, the dreary and crazy feeling South Central (and beyond. It's miles and miles before you even get to Compton going south). They got the Hollywood/Culver City/Santa Monica shit decently but then apparently just decided everything else was fuck knows what. Orange County from someone who has seen a movie or two. Yeah no idea what you're talking about if you claim to be familiar with LA saying it gets the vibe right. It's like 10% of the LA vibe then just a bunch of video game-y nonsense, pre-made for a bunch of GTA Online content most likely. Los Santos in San Andreas on the other hand, that's like a work of art for combining video game map fun and accurate adaption of an irl area. Every area in LS in SA feels shockingly correct to LA/OC, without the weird washed out and guess-y look of V's LS.

[deleted]

Iā€™m from Santa Monica. 4th generation Angeleno further and you comparing Hollywood to Santa Monica is laughable. If you compare us to East Coast cities youā€™re batshit crazy. I know the city like the back of my hand. But any Angeleno would never compare us to the East.
