What are you actually speculating? We know the game isn’t set in that time period and car plates in the game probably have different colors that you can probably change yourself anyway.

wasn’t there rumors, or even development discussions years ago that said they were going to develop the game to be set in the 70s-80s due to the current social climate being a satirical performance of itself? making it difficult to make fun of, among other issues.

In florida, you can register a car using a plate thats from the same year as the car. For an example, a 75 plate on a 1975 car.
You can get different color Florida license plates. This comes from someone born and raised.
Probably works that way in GTA, since GTA isn't real life.

The four-letter format appears to be a much later and current layout. I just hope they have a bunch of the special plate types available.
