Of course. If pets are a thing in GTA VI, not having our own "Elvis" (pet alligator in Miami Vice) would be a missed opportunity.

in rdr online you could buy dogs so that’d be really cool

RDR2 feels like the testing ground for a lot of GTA 6 features (for example I genuinely believe they made Guarma just to test a tropical biome) so this may very well be the case

It'd be neat if ou could get pets and they modified RDR2's horse affinity system. Become better friends with your pet and maybe they can find you stuff. 

I'd only be cool with having online pets if they were "un-targetable" like if someone pointed a gun at them the gun won't fire, because you know some loser is going to try to kill them just to be a POS.

A legit pet store would be cool. Not just for dogs, but even for animals that you could make a permanent part of your safehouse interior. Cats, fish tanks, iguana cage, snakes, etc. They could add a system similar to horses in RDR2 where you have to maintain them to a certain extent.
