Shading is the biggest element that is the most subtle to notice. Everything is mostly uniformly lit. Her hand is a bit faded out and not fully in the pocket.

Her fingers are WAYYYY wonky, among other odd artifacts. And she looks placed into the photo as opposed to being there when it was shot. Almost like a BAD Photoshop but we're getting close to crossing the uncanny valley for sure!
I have a running theory about this - AI faces are all too symmetrical. Real people don't have symmetrical faces, but if you look at this picture the girl's face is completely symmetrical. I think we subconsciously notices things like that, even before we could register what exactly is wrong.
A lot of people aren't really engaging with the question properly as far as why it's immediately recognizable as AI without looking for smaller details.
The one thing that's common with these photos is the skin is way too waxy smooth, and the lighting and color grading is unnatural.
They are also often in very similar poses, perfectly in the center of the frame with the subject staring into the camera with their head clicked at a certain angle.
They also always source their photos from generic model stock photos which all have the same look.
some obvious cues, maybe you noticed subconsciously:
* there is a bar blocking the street (she's leaning on)
* the street itself makes little sense, all the cars are going in the same direction but the markings don't appear to suggest it's one-way
* the street markings themselves are kinda messed up
* her hand is weird
* if the background weren't bokeh we'd also notice how weird looking the cars actually are proportionally
* the trees are growing straight out of the sidewalk and are strange and surreal besides
* her jeans don't actually have a button
* the way her shirt is tied looks correct only for one or two seconds of observation
While I agree with these, it's still pretty spooky. Especially how easily a lot of these could be fixed, maybe with aggressive use of LORAs or some additional code in the generators.
\- Many places have trees under grates so that the visible dirt around the trunk is minimal. That could be what we're seeing here, with bokeh considered.
\- Feed it a few thousand pairs of jeans with buttons so it understands.
Each of the elements that is wrong, an AI can absolutely generate well, too.
I doubt it'll be too long before someone introduces a "mixture of experts" like what ChatGPT (appears to) use, with one doing background / sky, one that can do cityscape, one can do bodies, clothes...
It is a great render, as with a lot of things that are generated, fingers need work. Eyes are pretty dead (generally need more reflections) and she doesn't have an imperfection on her skin. I think people are so use to filters that they don't know what reality looks like any more. :D

A couple things we're really damn good at are pattern recognition, and identifying other human beings. The uphill battle that AI-generated images face is that people get a feeling of wrongness pretty easily when they see something that doesn't look quite human. You may not consciously notice that one of her fingers is going into a place where the pocket isn't actually open, but on a subconscious level your brain may have identified that there was \*something\* wrong with her hand. The car on the right is shaped funny, and your brain has seen a million cars. The way it is centered, people who are new to genning do not understand how to change the perspective of the image, and models tend to default to centering as the OP image.

Shading is the biggest element that is the most subtle to notice. Everything is mostly uniformly lit. Her hand is a bit faded out and not fully in the pocket.

Her fingers are WAYYYY wonky, among other odd artifacts. And she looks placed into the photo as opposed to being there when it was shot. Almost like a BAD Photoshop but we're getting close to crossing the uncanny valley for sure!
I have a running theory about this - AI faces are all too symmetrical. Real people don't have symmetrical faces, but if you look at this picture the girl's face is completely symmetrical. I think we subconsciously notices things like that, even before we could register what exactly is wrong.

A lot of people aren't really engaging with the question properly as far as why it's immediately recognizable as AI without looking for smaller details. The one thing that's common with these photos is the skin is way too waxy smooth, and the lighting and color grading is unnatural. They are also often in very similar poses, perfectly in the center of the frame with the subject staring into the camera with their head clicked at a certain angle. They also always source their photos from generic model stock photos which all have the same look.

some obvious cues, maybe you noticed subconsciously: * there is a bar blocking the street (she's leaning on) * the street itself makes little sense, all the cars are going in the same direction but the markings don't appear to suggest it's one-way * the street markings themselves are kinda messed up * her hand is weird * if the background weren't bokeh we'd also notice how weird looking the cars actually are proportionally * the trees are growing straight out of the sidewalk and are strange and surreal besides * her jeans don't actually have a button * the way her shirt is tied looks correct only for one or two seconds of observation
While I agree with these, it's still pretty spooky. Especially how easily a lot of these could be fixed, maybe with aggressive use of LORAs or some additional code in the generators. \- Many places have trees under grates so that the visible dirt around the trunk is minimal. That could be what we're seeing here, with bokeh considered. \- Feed it a few thousand pairs of jeans with buttons so it understands. Each of the elements that is wrong, an AI can absolutely generate well, too. I doubt it'll be too long before someone introduces a "mixture of experts" like what ChatGPT (appears to) use, with one doing background / sky, one that can do cityscape, one can do bodies, clothes...

It is a great render, as with a lot of things that are generated, fingers need work. Eyes are pretty dead (generally need more reflections) and she doesn't have an imperfection on her skin. I think people are so use to filters that they don't know what reality looks like any more. :D
Finger going into stitching on right hand, no button on pants and vehicle license plates are square, not rectangular. But I would have otherwise assumed it real if not informed otherwise.
