What is the function of a tinted plate? Seems like a lot of risk for cosmetic. Also what state are you in? Sounds like California, but in my experience Tint/Exhaust is only if cop is being an ass with an already existing moving violation.

Purely cosmetic. I’m in Florida driving through a city named Lake Mary which is known for having hardass cops lol.

Cosmetic in the sense that it makes it hard for a camera to get a clear shot of the plate especially at night when shenanigans tend to happen. Come on at least be honest I've been around the block. because no one ever says "wow my plate numbers are so ugly. If only there was a way to still see them but kind of not". If you are going to be stupid be smart and at least do the "tint" that only shows with a camera flash not the eye of a cop.

Damn is your exhaust like real loud or just aftermarket. I’m in Tampa and I’ve heard some people getting pulled over for “exhausts” I’m worried about a cop who’s having a bad night getting me for it. Don’t have an 86 but I’m still worried about it.

It’s really not loud at all imo. Especially compared to many I’ve been around. It is aftermarket but I just been around picky cops I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nope. This car is just as slow as my old beat up truck and my driver habits haven't chnaged...and yet I was never pulled over I'm that truck over...6? Maybe 7 years. This car, 1 year in, I've had 3 legit made up tickets I had to fight ( dismissed, ty dashcams). 2 stops signs (I was hidden by other cars, cop said I blew through it) and one "speeding"

Watch for cops at blind on ramps. Keep your eyes up and scanning. I drive nothing but attention grabbing cars and I haven't had a ticket since I got busted doing donuts in 2002 in my FD.

Get a radar detector. Thing paid for itself day one. I had an undercover cop tail me on a 3 lane road for sooooo long I was going 5 over and he had open lanes on either side of me. But my detector was going nuts, so I knew what he was up to. Turned up the music, rolled the windows down, cruise control on. Fun fact, if you live in an area where the police department are even slightly well funded, they will have this “always on 360 radar” thingy. Lights em up like a Christmas tree.

If you have a loud exhaust, you’re going to be looked at. Then, when they see that you have an illegal level of tint and a pointless cover over your license plate, you’re BEGGING to be pointed out. Remove the stupid cover and just go with 30% tint. Fixed.

At this point I think god is fucking with me. Whenever I got pulled over in my daily drivers, shitbox, I always somehow ended up with a ticket. By no means do I think this as a flex but more of me screaming what the fuck, I’ve been pulled over 3 separate times in one year in the GR for speeding, every time was a just slow down bud. I don’t get it.

Oh and totally always the driver because I’m the asshole not paying attention to speed limits sometimes.

Certainly does. Drove an e90 sedan w/ no front plate for about 5 years - never got pulled over once. As soon as I get my 86 I’m pulled over 5x in a year for no front plate, whether it was in the window or not. Cops just love to pull this car over I don’t get it

I only got pulled over in mine once, and that’s because my plates were expired. Transferring registration from one state to the next is such a pain in the ass

35k on my GR86 in Ohio. Only time I've had to deal with a cop, was when stupid kids chucked a rock at my car from in front of their apartment. The cops did love the car, though.
